I went to Menards in Sidney, Ohio today and shopped throughout the store without a mask. I saw several employees with mask that were pulled down past their mouths and sitting under their chin. I was not bothered by the employees not properly wearing their mask in fact it is very unsanitary unhealthy to wear mask and I felt sorry for them. I was not wearing a mask because it is a health hazard to do so. My husband and myself went to the register and were in the process of checking out with a nice gentleman cashier when a younger female cashier came up and demanded that I put on a mask. I politely told her that I was not going to wear a mask that I am exempt because I am on chemo and the mask makes my nausea much worse. She told me that I had to put a mask on or she was going to get the manager. She got the manager who came up to me and stood 18 inches from my face and loudly verbally assaulted me for not wearing a mask. I repeated that I am on chemo and cannot tolerate a mask. She continued to escalate her verbal attack then pointed out an employee of Menards who is also on chemo and wears a mask. The fact that a manager violated an employees privacy by pointing them out in a very rude and public way made me concerned for how the manager treats the employees when they are not in the view of the public. I still refused to wear a mask and the manager went on to say that she made a male customer who had a stoma wear a mask over it. She said that she told him I know you can't breath but it's Company policy and laughed about it. This manager was verbally abusive to me and attempted to be physically threatening with her stance which was all on camera and then laughed about forcing a covering on a gentleman with a stoma all while violating the personal medical histoty of an employee. The manager seriously seemed to take some sort of sick pleasure in trying to cause as much discomfort as she could to customers and an employee who had physical ailments. This employee's and Menard's Nazi like attempts at public shaming of it's customers and violating their employee's protected health information is shameful especially when their are so many better competitors like Home Depot and Lowes.
Desired outcome: Reprimand and education on basic civility in customer service and the harms of restricting oxygen for patient's with stomas, HIPPA violations and risk of aspiration for patients using mask who are on chemotherapy.
Menards - Shopping at menards in general speaking
Menards Location: Sidney, Ohio

Menards used to be my go to store for many years over Lowes and Home Depot, but with the ongoing issue of having to wear a face mask to enter the store, or even the ability to buy merchandise has become the main issue. On June 14, 2020, I have decided to shop Menards Sidney, Ohio location entering the store without the face mask. It is my decision alone as an adult to decide if the face mask is necessary or not. I was told by a Menards Employee as I enter the store; I could not enter without one on, but entered anyways as it is my decision.
First of all, if there was an absolute risk of getting covid-19, don't you think it would be necessary for a Menards employee to check everyone's temperature before entering the building? Anyone could enter the building with having a fever, cold, or flu symptoms, wear a face mask, and not checked. Is this the standard practice of Menards? Is the use of the face mask really solving any real possible issue? For one, if there was a possibility of any symptoms of covid-19, as an adult, my decision would be to stay home, and not run the risk of affecting others. Wouldn't you think this would be the census of the community?
As I was nearing the area of the checkout area for purchasing the merchandise, I was confronted again by the Manager of Menards. The question was asked if I have a mask, and my reply was no, and will always be no. The Manager's response was out of respect, and stated I would not be allowed to make any purchases without the face mask. So, my response was to drop all the merchandise in hand, and left the store. I figured there is other box store just as good as Menards where the use of the face mask is unnecessary.
So, other businesses and restaurants in the Sidney location are not enforce the issue of the face mask, so why is Menards? Just to list a few: Bob Evans, Walmart, Tractor Supply, Krogers, Dollar General, etc……
Sorry to say, I refuse to do any more business with Menards, and will shop at other locations for my needs. One thing to take note of, Lowes is next door to Menards, and I do continue to see more shoppers there then Menards. This is not just my thoughts, but thoughts of others I communicate with. You have to ask yourself, when do you say enough is enough?
