poor product
We purchased these windows about 11 years ago. We are no longer under warranty. From the very first year we had problems. Some of the double window groups were mulled together at slight angles so they are not cappable of closing squarely and they leak air. After I insisted, the rep. fiddled and messed with the windows for about a half hour and said the window was fine and there was nothing else he could do. I asked if I could send them back and get a replacement. He said no, they were installed. We had a double sliding window group - 4 panels - that wouldn't seal properly at the place were the seal is on both sides. After years of discussing the issue they finally sent a tech out who did the best he could and the air blowing in is tollerable. Our rep. told us to take a circular saw and cut the door about 1/4 inch thinner. Who wouldn't do it and the tech came out and had them build a door slightly thinner so it could seal better. We have had seal breakage in double hungs with and without safety glass, french door panels, and about 9 transome stationary windows. As of this year, we have 3 more transome, and another panel of a double hung that has popped. Weathershield did send a tech out a few times in the first few years of our seals popping and we didn't have to pay the tech. Then a few years later we had to start replacing them ourselves. The transomes aren't so hard. The french doors are pretty tough to get the trim to line up on again. Every year when I wash the outside of the windows in the spring I am caulking the glazing to make sure we have no leaks. The tech that came to fix our initial problems told me to do this. These are definately high maintenance windows. We also have problems with door locks no longer locking, they just turn. We were told they were not covered under the warranty. Our paint had also failed and we have rotting wood on the frames. The paint has cracked everywhere and when I complained I was given a tiny bottle of touch of paint that you apply like nail polish. It was tedious and didn't work. Then when I complained a second time, I got a can of spray paint. It also didn't work. The third time I complained I was told I was no longer under warranty. Now we are not covered for anything and when I consider the cost every year we face to replace just the popped seals, I give up. We have a nice house with gross windows. When people come to visit I always make sure I point out my windows and doors and what is wrong with them. The thing that really threw me the other day, and this is not an endorsement for Anderson, but, I was at my parents. They installed Anderson over 26 years ago and they never painted the trim on the windows. They are just white primed. Those windows look perfect! No rot, no popping. Go figure.

doors leaking
Doors are not manufactured as per product approval testing documents. Missing structural silicones causing doors to leak and delaminate. Sales came from City Architectural, distributor is S & S millwork in Tampa who both failed to report this to Weathershield for several yrs. Both claimed it was the owners fault. Weathershield said we are out of warranty, even if that is true, the doors are not made as they should be for Florida windloads and water intrusion. Weathershield rep acknowledges that the doors were not made correctly quote, " they must have lost the football game the night before".
I am builder #3 on this home. We have taken the doors apart to correctly diagnose the problem. We have filed a complaint with State of Florida product approval dept.
This company and all that they associate with have no clue to what customer service means.
These doors are expensive and are supposed to be rated for 123mph + windloads with impact resistant glass. If you have purchased these products, don't plan on staying during the next storm, it could cost you your life when the glass blows out across your living room.

Does not stand behind warranty
My home was built 10 years ago and my builder recommended Weathershield windows. We purchased one of their higher quality wood clad line of windows with a special factory paint finish. The paint finish warranty is for 10 years and the seal 20. Our windows started rotting and leaking 4 years ago. I reported it to Weathershield and have gotten now where. They...

Weathershield came out one time and basically told us that their product was perfect and we must have...

I purchased a home which was built about 14 years ago. The developer used WeatherShield windows in most of the homes. I bought my home a year ago and recently had one of thier "Certified" Dealers repair several of the windows at ½ price under the warranty. Or so I though. I came to find out from a Weather Shield Customer Service rep that he over charged me $40 per window. I spent around $2000 to have some replaced and jam liners replaced in others.
Over all I am completely dissatisfied with the quality of thier windows as well as the ORIGINAL install, which according to the "certified" service people who completed the repairs was also done by a "Certified" weather shield dealer. Before they removed the jam liners on the windows in question, you could stick your finger through the opening between the liner and the window. We found out the reason for this was that the installer never used foam to back the liner. To cut his costs he used News paper which was completely rotted away.
This terrible install has led me to replace a total of 7 windows so far and have another 10 for a total of 17 out of 22 with broken seals. Thats about 80% of the homes total windows failing.
From what the neighbors have told me this is par for the course for this subdivision with respect to Weather Shields product.
I explained all of this to a Weather Shield Representative. She understood and sent me a letter indicating that I could order "no charge replacement glass". I explained that I needed to wait a while to save up for the install costs and she said I could order when I was ready. I tired to take advantage of this about a year later. The new customer service person indicated that the offer would be honored and that I needed to go through one of their other "certified" installers. I paid this guy a nonrefundable service fee of $80.00 to spend 30 mn in my house measuring the effected windows. 2 months go by with no word from him at all. I call him to check on the progress only to find out that Weather Shield has decided not to honor thier offer. He nor weather shield ever bothered to contact me regarding this. They have come back now with excuses and said that 1)they didnt know that I wasnt the original owner even though I spelled it out in the 3rd sentence of my original complaint letter, 2) The windows are actually 5 years older then the house! I asked what that had to do with it and again pointed the finger at thier "certified" ornginal installer. To which they replied, "we have no control over our installers"?
To summarise, to become a "certified" Weather Shield rep, I think you only need to agree to carry their product and then Weather Shield can claim absolutely 0 control as to the performance or practices of these individuals.
Weather Shield spells out in their mission statement their high level of quality and service.
