Zynex Medical Zynex surprise billing, exorbitant prices, scam

My physical therapist recommended a Zynex unit and had the company call me. The representative told me that if my insurance did not cover the device that they would let me know, and they said I would get an explanation of benefits from my insurance that would tell me if I owe anything. My insurance company sent me EOBs stating that I had zero responsibility to pay. Ten months afterwards, I got an extremely high bill from Zynex saying I had to pay for the device and supplies.

The prices for the equipment were outrageous. The same type of device is available on Amazon for about $25. The electrodes are $9.99. The batteries are less than $3 each. Yet their cost for the device is $2000! They charge $173 for the electrodes and $12 for the batteries!

I was never able to use the device and offered to return all the products unused and unopened, but they refuse to take it back.

Desired outcome: Return the device and supplies and zero out the balance. I hope others read this before getting involved with Zynex and avoid this scam.

Zynex Medical Dishonest billing practices

I received a NexWave unit in September. The insurance EOB stated that due to insurance company discounts, patient cost was zero. Zynex delayed billing until January after sending three months' worth of supplies. (All EOB showed $0 due from patient.) When I contacted them to ask why I'm being billed and why billing was delayed, I was lied to about the timeframe in which the insurance company processed the claim. The rep claimed Zynex just got the EOB from the insurance company. The insurance company provided me with documentation that directly contradicts this claim. I never would have kept the unit if I had known I would have to pay for it. But now, I owe almost as much as the unit costs to buy because I've had it in my possession for several months. Had they billed me in a timely manner, this would not be the case. I also would not have agreed to monthly supply shipments had I not been told that the patient portion was $0. The customer service rep was rude and lied repeatedly while on the phone. The way this company scams people out of their money is disgusting.

Desired outcome: I would like Zynex to honor the discount my insurance company claims that it provided on the EOB.

The situation has never been resolved. The only acceptable resolution is a statement showing a $0 balance on my account as the insurance company states they paid. Unfortunately, I never received any notification that Zynex had responded to this claim until complaintsboard had already marked the case as resolved. I'm still extremely upset about their dishonest billing practices and double billing.

I had almost the exact experience with the Zynex. My insurance company sent me explanations of benefits saying I had no responsibility to pay, yet Zynex billed me 10 months after they sent me the device saying I owed in full because my insurance company did not pay. Not only that, they charge exorbitant prices — literally 80 x the amount the device costs on the open market. What they charge for supplies is even more outrageous. $173 for electrodes that cost $9.99.

Zynex Medical New wave electrode device

The device was ordered by my physical therapist. The device was mailed before the approval of insurance. I was hesitant to receive the device before approval but was told they couldn't bill the insurance co. until they mailed the device (1st red flag) and I was told I could return the device if insurance didn't pay but they usually pay. I got a bill so I called them and was told the insurance didn't pay so I could pay in full. I asked to return the device and was told they would MAIL the return label. I asked to have the return label emailed & was told they had to mail it & couldn't email it (2nd red flag). The return label took weeks to arrive & I promptly mailed/returned the equipment. I argued that I shouldn't have to pay for an unused device & asked how much my bill was. I was told the bill can not be determined until the device is received back. I asked them to please not bill me for anything else or ship anything else to me. I was told it was noted on my account that I was returning the device and services would be stopped. I was told today the new equipment/batteries I received yesterday would be $33 and they did not accept returns. I didn't order it! I was told it was a lifetime prescription. WHAT? I didn't want it to start with and was only following my physical therapist's orders. The equipment was returned but I was told they didn't get it. I have a tracking # and the package/equipment was returned. This is a scam!

Zynex Medical Fraud: zynex claiming my insurance for rentals fee when I bought my unit!

I bought from Zynex medical a Saunders cervical traction unit May 2021 for $295 and paid it right away. Zynex said they would try to claim my insurance to get the unit reimbursed. I knew my insurance doesn't cover this but needed the unit since it has relieved me from pain. I bought the unit and did not bother with anything else.
End of October 2021 I had to check something on my insurance account and discovered that Zynex had been claiming my insurance for $295 monthly rental of the unit I paid and own! I reminder: the unit cost $295 to buy. From May until October, they unjustifiably claimed a total of $1770.
I called them beginning of November, letting them know it was not ok to claim my insurance for a rental of a unit I had bought and that they should end this right away. After calling the fraud, they finally agreed to close the file. However, I just discovered today they claimed again my insurance for an amount of $1995.00 for rental!
Of course, my insurance kept denying so they did not get any extra dollar but if they are able to do that kind of thing and are still in business, where does it stop?

Desired outcome: To inform general public about Zynex is dishonest. Zynex to stop claiming my insurance but I will change end of the year... so it will be sorted automatically.

Zynex Medical Falsely billing and did not ask for the product

I injured my back and went to PT. Never agreed to buy a tens unit, but a week later one showed up in my mailbox. No one mentioned anything about rental fees while I waited to see what it'd cost. I never used the unit & returned it unopened & now they want me to pay $282.00. Tried to talk with Zynex, but they are the biggest fraudulent Billing company I've ever seen. Nothing but a scam. Cannot believe all the complaints on line about this company.

Desired outcome: Reduce balance to zero. I never asked for a tens unit & sure would not have rented one.

Hello - I am investigating Zynex for potentially fraudulent billing. I've heard similar stories from other patients who received Zynex's device, later flooded with electrodes and batteries. I would like to discuss your experience with Zynex.

Please contact me at: haroldwhitehouse@mail.com.

Thank you.

Zynex Medical fraudulent use of information

refuse to make mistake right
refuse to take back unopened equipment
refuse to be honest on business practices.

Loretta Bafidis at [protected] deceived me into believing that by giving my address needed that they would process my prescription for a TENS unit. A few days later I received the equipment after I had asked her to ensure that this was not done until the insurance company approved it first.

Now I am being railroaded into keeping a product I cannot afford or want not that I dont trust their business practices.

Desired outcome: refund of all monies paid to them for equipment returned.

Zynex Medical NexWave

I was referred to Foot Dr for treatment of a heal spur last year in November 2020. I received 2 injections and some meds and it didn't seem to get better. I was then offered a device from a co called Zynex medical with electrodes and a machine called Nexwave. I was told it may cost $25/mo and they would bill my insurance and let me know, I never heard back from them. I received the machine in April and hadn't received any bill. I called Dr office on a few occasions and they would reach out to the representative and get back to me and they never did.
My complaint is that I kept receiving electrodes and didn't know the cost was $33 for each set. I have 4 sealed electrodes because I don't need them and they just kept coming. In addition to that the cost of $25 each month since April has left me with a $315 bill that just arrived after all these months. I called Zynex and they cannot return the electrodes to reduce my cost because of FDA regulations. When I asked why they were being sent without my consent they said it was the way the prescription was written by Dr. The bill reflects that insurance did not cover any of the cost. So I called Dr.'s office and spoke to Office manager regarding the issue, she informed me that they are no longer using Zynex medical. I said then why did you not inform the patient. I feel it is important to warn other patients about this scam. I read a ton of issues today dating back to 2009 regarding complaints against this company and yet they are still doing business and scamming people. The product is a good product but how do you bill people after the fact for what they did not authorize, we buy first usually so we can agree we can afford the product. I was told by Katey on the phone at Zynex that she will mail me a prepaid envelope to return the product. I am going to wait and see if they mail me something to return or if they will continue sending me electrodes and try billing me. Then I have to trust that if I do get a return envelope postage paid that they will credit me for returning it.

Desired outcome: To pay only for the billing usage and not these unused electrotrodes that I will not use.

Zynex Medical Billing fraud

My issue was not related to the machine but with the service. For some reason my insurance stop paying Zynex for the supplies they sent every month (batteries and cloth electrodes). Apparently, it had to do with my annual deductible. The problem surged when they kept sending me the supplies without letting me know the was a problem with the insurance. Months later I received an invoice for $1, 200. If told, I would have called them to stop receiving the supplies. COVID-19 is putting a lot of financial pressure on everyone of us. This is not a surprise you want to get in the middle of a pandemic. Now my insurance doesn't want to pay and Zynex don't want to take back all the supplies they sent that I never used. Zynex most improve their service to fix this kind of issue. They will have to send the invoice for colection because I am not intending to pay it. I will proceed to take legal action against Zynex. Terrible Scam!

Desired outcome: Stop sending me invoices and don't touch my credit.

Zynex Medical Nextwave - billing practices

We consulted with our pain management doctor back in March of 2020 about getting a Zynex NextWave Device. The representative got a hold of my wife and the device got sent to us. The representative told my wife that the most she would have to pay out of pocket is $150. For a device that works, that isn't a big deal so we were ok with it.

Then from April 2020 til now, we kept getting shipments from Zynex that included one set of electrodes and a 9v battery. All was ok until just two weeks ago, we get a bill from Zynex for over $700. In other words, they sent the unit and supplies monthly but then wait for 16 months to send a bill that is now cumulative. But had they sent us a bill for the first run of supplies in April and we would have seen what it was going to come out to we would have cancelled because you can certainly get electrodes cheaper and there isn't a 9v battery on the planet that costs $8 (much less the $20 that it shows it would normally cost not discounted).

But they didn't do any of that so they took that option to cancel out of my hands and just wait nearly a year and a half to send me a bill. Their customer service representative last night tried blaming it on my insurance company and the funny part about that is my insurance company is bad at a lot of things but they probably aren't responsible for ensuring that Zynex sends me a bill in a timely manner or communicates with me on what's going on benefits wise. They said it was insurance's responsibility to give the explanation of benefits when CLEARLY, I am well tuned with what the process is since EVERY doctor I deal with does just the opposite. They don't provide services and then say "whoops, the insurance company didn't approve that, that will be $15, 000 sir." No, they call prior to services rendered and say "hey sir, insurance didn't approve your procedure so you may want to call them." And they certainly don't keep providing services without telling me and then send me a bill over a year down the road.

And again, the customer service reps/supervisors have been zero help offering such great deals as taking 50% off the bill. We said no, we will pay the $150 for the unit that insurance didn't pay and one month of supplies since we would have paid that in the first place had we known it would cost us but cancelled after that. Again, that option was taken from us.

All this too after the unit stopped working a few months ago while we were in the process of actually trying to get one for me as well.

Desired outcome: I want the bill erased down to the $150 for the unit and supplies billed ONLY for the month of April 2020

Zynex Medical Fraudulent billing for a zynex nexwave

My husband tried the Zynex NexWave tens unit for nerve pain that resulted from a back injury / failed back surgery. It didn't help him and actually caused him more pain. Some products work great for some and sadly, not for others.

My complaint is this company's billing practices. My husband has a Care Guard Annuity Acct which manages his settlement. Providers bill his Care Guard and they in turn pay the bill. My husband was billed $363.00 or so every month.

When I called Zynex to advise that the device wasn't for him, how to go about stopping bills to Care Guard and returning device for someone else to use, I was told that it would be paid off in 2 months, so I might as well not return it. I said ok, bill the remaining 2 payments to pay off and I'll donate the device.

Trusting that the matter was settled, unbeknownst to me, Zynex continued to bill Care Guard... to the tune of $14, 000 before we realized it ... this $2, 300 device (price that was listed per their website at), my husband was billed $14, 000... I could also buy this unit from Ebay (used) for $155.

Care Guard has reached out to Zynex for return of the funds that they overbilled. We have no issue with payment for the device, the leads, the pads, batteries etc that they send you in abundance every month even though you didn't request or need ... but the continued billing for the add'l $14, 000 needs to be refunded to my husbands acct.

According to our representative for my husband's Care Guard acct, Zynex has neither responded to the request nor returned the funds. And this has gone on for over 6 months trying to get a refund.

I am not the only one that this has happened where Zynex continues to bill

https://www.complaintsboard.com/zynex-medical-b126733

My next stop is the state Atty General's office.

Desired outcome: Refund us the $14,000

Zynex Medical Cervical Traction Device

I was told by a representative who has since been fired that my insurance covered a recommended cervical traction device. I used to have one years ago but it had broken. My PT put me in contact with what I assumed was the same company I used the first time I received the unit. I had been trying to get this device for close to a year and was in so much pain. Now I know why I had so many issues getting it through my PT and Dr. I spoke with a representative who informed me that yes I was covered (my husband is a fire fighter and we do have amazing insurance), that she had received my Drs order and was processing it. I gave her all of health insurance information and she said there was no problem they'd bill the insurance company but that it could take up to two months to get the device. I was in terrible pain. I am only 49 and have had 5 major surgeries including a total hip replacement, double level cervical disc fusion and a broken tib/fib. All unrelated. I was a runner my entire life and in excellent shape until I turned 40 and then my bones and joints just started falling apart. She pressured me to pay for the unit upfront that way I could have it within a week. All I could think about was the relief I would receive once I started using it. I should have known better. I've been taken advantage of by several different Drs in the health care community. One who actually performed an unnecessary surgery on my that relieved no pain at all, put me on crutches for 3 months and delayed a much needed hip replacement by 8. Moths go by and to my complete shock and surprise my insurance denied the claim. Not because they didn't think I needed it but because Zynex was not in my network. That was something she knew when she looked up my health insurance information and why she pressured me to pay up front. I was told by Zynex that she has since been fired for being unethical and they told me to not blame my PT that he too was probably lied to. They told me this but in the same breathe said there was nothing they could do. I'm so disgusted that they can easily take advantage of people who have been suffering for years and who are just desperate to receive relief from their pain. I should have known better but she looked up my health information while I was on the phone with her and told me I was covered. She talked to me about how she was a gymnast and how she too was experiencing similar problems with her joints. I'm in tears right now. I can't afford to pay hundreds of dollars for a much needed medical device when my insurance company would have paid for it if I just hadn't put my trust once again in someone from the health care community and blindly believe they care and want to help. Repulsive

Desired outcome: Reduce my cost to whatever my co-pay would have been if they hadn’t defrauded me

Zynex Medical Tens Unit

My chiropractor at the time suggested getting this tens unit from this company, Zynex & that insurance (Medicare) usually pays for it. I was leery to try it but this company kept calling me 2-3 times a day to try this unit, so finally I agreed, assuming insurance would cover it. Long story short..I received the unit & never used it because Medicare would not pay! Called to return the unit UNUSED, & rep tells me if I return it that there will be NO charge! Well, now months later, I get an invoice from company saying I owe them $150 for the time I had the unit, now I never used the unit..I returned it BRAND NEW! I called the company & the so called manager says they are willing to settle for half of the charges! Really..I never used the product, I bought a Tens unit online from Amazon for $40 & I'm sure it works just as good as their so called $369 unit!

Desired outcome: No charges to me for a product returned, brand new, never used!!

Zynex Medical Billing for jet stream and tens machine

Zynex informed us that they were submitting the costs to our Ins company for coverage, however they only submitted to Medicare and without a $ figure. We paid $250 for the jet stream equipment and are now being billed $250 for the tens machine which we can buy over the counter for $50 or less.

We are returning the tens machine as soon as the return packaging arrives.

When we requested a copy of the supposed paperwork from their insurance submission. Bcbs had neither equipment submitted. It's been 5 months since receiving the equipment.

Poor follow up and accounting.

Zynex Medical tens unit

Terrible company that is billing me for a tens unit I tried out for 1 minute, but didn't use, returned along with all the batteries and pads they sent.

I first received the device back in 2015. I have a chronic pain condition as result of 2 surgeries on my left foot. At the time I could hardly walk and needed some relief, so my doctor felt this device could help and sent rx to zynex.

I immediately noticed that the tens unit caused increased pain to my foot. I'm an rn and I need to be able to walk as I typically work 12 hour shifts with lots of walking.

I received a huge bill from zynex for tens unit rental fees and charges for batteries and pads. I thought I had purchased device thru insurance, but apparently I had been 'renting' device and none of it was covered by insurance.

I sent unit back along with all the unused batteries and pads.

They've continued to harass me ever since. Five long years.

Scam scam scam! If your physical therapist or pain management doc recommends a tens unit from zynex, refuse it. You'll have years of harassment that never ends.

I'm working with covid-19 patients daily and am totally stressed. Today, received another bill for a device I sent back years ago.in a time of crisis zynex is threatening collections. Thanks zynex, i'll be sure to share my story with co-workers and patients.

Zynex Medical tens and supplies billing

This company has sent supplies not ordered and are trying to gouge my insurance co and myself for these items. I have left 3 messages on their "customer service " line and have yet to get a live person or a return call. They are also overcharging for the tens unit. They are trying to get over 4500.00 for the "rental" of tens unit and supplies not ordered. They are trying to bill us personally for almost 2000.00. This is an abuse of insurance and why the costs of insurance coverage is so high.

Zynex Medical Nerve stimulator

Product was returned to Provided, but provider still charges our insurance company every month for $349.00, we had not been realizing they had been doing this until recently. Turns out they have been charging Anthem blue cross for thousands, Now they claim they never received the returned product. Upon further research I've found out that they have been doing this to other people as well. Would like someone to stop this medical fraud!

Zynex Medical Employment and medical device billing fraud

I worked there for nearly 2 years. At first it seems okay, your given stock I now know is fraudulent and are given a daily billing goal to bill patients illegally for years. We are told to bill out at least $70000 to insurance and bring in 10% of that each week or we are fired which I did get fired for not going against ethics, and morals. This is a fraudulent company who is in debt with the post office, UPS, FEDEX and the bank. I took many collection calls from businesses the CEO owed money to and even lost my insurance for over a month because they couldn't pay the bill!
The devices are upcharged, the patients insurance is billed way beyond what is legal and the billers are told to do it or you are fired. Health insurances need to get in and stop this billing over and over to them and patients for a $10 device. Given stock that does not exist and also medical billing does not require a quota. I feel bad for the patients, please go somewhere else!

Zynex Medical TENS unit

7 months ago my physical therapist recommended a TENS unit for me.I asked him 3 times if he obtained prior approval from my health insurance, he said yes and I would only be charged a nominal fee. After months of asking zynex to stop sending supplies I received a bill for$ 2, 500 for the unit .When I called zynex they said there was no prior approval called in to my insurance and I am responsible for the balance.Zynex said I could return the unit, but it has to be returned within 10 days to get credit. Why did it take them 6 months to bill me and I only get 10 days to return the unit and I'm still responsible to pay for the batteries and electrodes which cost $90 a month.Maybe if they would have billed me IMEDIATLY I would not be stuck with this bill.I also have to blame the physical therapist whom assured me there would only be a nominal fee.I think zynex is in business just to rip off people.

Buyer beware! I just got off the phone with my insurance company, UHC Medicare Advantage and Zynex Medical. Yes, my insurance company approved the Unit and supplies, my portion 20% copay and they pay 80%. Here's where the in my opinion scam comes in.
If I were to buy this unit myself, outright it would cost me $250.00 and a pack of electrodes would be $12.50
If they charge UHC, it would be on a monthly rental basis and they will charge them monthly, $369.00 for the unit and $217.98 per month for the pack of electrodes and a 9v battery.
I'm not a math wizard, but if you take 20% of $369.00 = $73.80 per month that will come out of my pocket for the unit, and 20% of $217.98 = $43.60 per month being charged to me for the supplies.
The gal at Zynex said they charge on a 10-month cycle before inquiring if I still need the unit. So, in 10 months time, I'm paying out of my pocked $738.00 for a unit that isn't even mine when I could have purchased it outright for $250.00
I hope Karma comes knocking on the door of this company.

Zynex Medical Fraud

I received a unit from my therapist. I was never told about the auto shipping of the pads, nor did I agree to receive them. I began receiving them in June of 2014 but never saw a bill so I assumed they were being covered. In February 2015 I finally received a bill threatening collections if not paid. I called the company to stop shipments. They told me that I signed an agreement for auto shipping but to date they haven't produced any evidence BECAUSE I NEVER AGREED TO ANYTHING. Today, I received another bill with a new balance that shows they billed my insurance company for the machine, which they paid in FULL; but they're charging ME another $40 over and above the quoted MSRP for the device!
