I faxed in my cancellation to 24 hour fitness in Dec of 06 after 1 year with the club. My cancellation was due to the fact that I had left the state and moved to a state where 24 hour fitness wasn't available. I called the company in January and they said they hadn't received my fax. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she told me my account was canceled and that a check was on its way. I called again in March and they tried canceling it on Mar 26. I told them I had proof of a fax in Dec and they said 'sorry it's already canceled.' I'm currently waiting for a call back from their 'supervisors.'
This company is going to scam you out of your money 24$ at a time. Don't sign up unless you are paying monthly. Don't pay them large chunks of money for long term memberships, because you won't see it back for months, and by the time you do it will be 10% less than expected.

terrible company
My husband and I signed up for gym membership at the Pearland 24-Hour Fitness Shaq. After a few months we realized we were not getting use out of membership, especially since I did NOT like the yoga classes. I canceled membership several days before the automatic withdrawal, but payment was taken out anyway. I called them again, and I was told that I had to cancel 30 days before the automatic withdrawal. They told me to read the contract.
However! According to the contract, members pay the first and last month's membership upon signing up. If my last 30 days is already paid for, then shouldn't that count toward my 30 days notice? Or is it reasonable that I pay for 60 days worth of gym time after canceling membership?!
We got busy and thought we might write the $70 off, but the very next month (this March 2017) we were charged $70 again! My husband called corporate, and they promised to reverse February's payment within 5-7 days, and they told us that the pending $70 would not go through. The payment has now gone through and my husband is going to be calling them again.
SCAM. This is one big scam to squeeze a few extra dollars out of people who they will probably never see again. This has been such a headache, I am sure they depend on people giving up. Shame on your company. I will also be writing the Better Business Bureau.

Don't believe anything they promise when they sign you up for membership.
1. I signed up for membership mid-June of 2017 for 1 year membership, at the time I wanted my 1 year membership to end in July 1st of 2017, so I said I would come back to sign up in July, the salesman said don't worry we will bump your deadline to July 1st 2017, a year later, they claim that never happened and would end my membership in mid-June.
2. I also referred a friend in March of 2017, at the time they were running a promo where if you refer someone you get two weeks added to your membership, at the time the salesman said the 2 weeks will be added a month later, now it's been 3 months I'm asking where did the free 2 weeks went, again, they claim this never happened, said company never ran such a promo, and even called me a liar!?
I have dealt with many gyms, NYSC, BSC, crunch, if they promised something they always end up delivering, this is the first for me where before you sign up they are nice, smiles, and tries to sweeten the contract but after you sign up all the "Extras" are non-existent... It's scary and sad to learn people can't be trusted
Treadmills are poorly maintained and a safety hazard. They don't have enough to begin with and many of the ones that are open are not fit to run on because the belts slip. That is a serious safety hazard. I've pointed that out many times to staff but I come in the next day and the machine is still open and still not working properly. When they do put a sign on a machine that it is not working, it is weeks before they fix it. VERY poor service and treatment of guests.

I recently brought my children in to the kids club at this 24 hour fitness location . My issueisn't with the poor girl who had the flu and had to consistently expell her bowels. No my issue is with the inconsiderate management who forced this poor girl to stay as she vomitted simply because out of the 20+ employees working there, not one wanted to run the kids club. I came in the next day, she wasn't there to my relief. So I thought. They had her towards what they thought would be a location noone could hear as what appeared to be the manager yelling at this girl, who looked like she was losing this viral battle. Saying that her attitude was unacceptable, that she needs to stick it out because there is noone to cover for her. I'm sorry, but I don't know exactly what kind of attitude your supposed to have with such an ailment, and I'm not gonna put my kids at the risk of catching such q devastating flu because the management is more concerned with employees in the area sick and battered. I don't think that someone in that condition is fit to watch kids period. I would be more than happy to have a family member, or friend watch my kids just to allow this strong woman to get back on her feet. I will be ending my membership, cause I don't want any part of a business who has no respect for their workers. Get it together 24, your pathetic and unbelievable. Truly disgusted by their ethics. Hope you get better girl, I'm sorry this is something your subjected to. You should have equal rights as anyone in the workplace. I have given you my card, and as a lawyer I would love to run these guys into the dirt.
I signed up a contract with 24 hour fitness a month after my other 2 friends 3 years ago. They both got a very good deal with cheaper monthly dues and a "way cheaper" renewal rate than what I got.
This month, they both renewed their contract with perferred rate, I called the customer service, explained about the situation, yet they told me there is nothing they can do to match the offer my friends got. and yet I have a family plan with 4 people on board, I guess 24-hour fitness just don't care about losing business, and just want to screw people all the way once the customers innocently signed up a lame contract.
I may have to reconsider my fitness needs and take my business elsewhere. and when I called the customer rep did not even speak good english, plus the bad customer service.
I paid for 3 years and in my contract it sys I now pay 50$ a year for life but when i paid it and this month they charged me again WTF! the staff is not helpful and gives my customer service numbers dat dont help! So wack ive now paid 29$ for the past 2 months and since i cant find my contract they arent honoring it sucks and some chick that didnt know what she was talking about in the front sent me to finance people to try and write up a new contract, but they wanted me to pay 29 a month still. they let people in for free ALLLL the time but burn loyal customers, freakin haterz! they told me if i wasnt happy with the service file a complaint! so i am! 24 hour fitness is going down hill
womens lockeroom showers are flooded(2) poor lighting in showers lights burned out for 6 months, no TV in lockeroom use to have it why not now? like to see what's happening at least on the news showers faucets are on backwards some cannot be turned hot enough maintanence has really been put off drastically I'm a lifetime member and just may have to go some where else, many others are talking and disgusted also This club isn't even 5 years old and the flooring in the showers are filthy stained, need to be bleached and cleaned and cared for big time!
Dear readers, just look at the capital headlines if you don't have time for the details.
(A) bad salesperson - the sales person told me renewal is $49 per year. I only found out now that renewal is $99.
(B) harassing phone calls - they set up a reminder for renewal. That reminder is an alarm. It calls me twice a day with a voice message to renew. Twice a day everyday for 2 weeks. I asked them to put me on no call list - will have to see the result of that.
(C) incompetent customer service from inida - twice i have called them and asked them to send me my original contract. Twice they told me they would send it and it'd take 5-7 days. I waited two weeks. Twice i asked for a supervisor, they told me no supervisor available and please call back.
(D) shady or incompetent renewal - after unresolved situation with india customer serive - i called corporate (It turned out they are also from india) and explained the recent situation and told the representative that i am interested in keeping my membership and renew only if it's $49. She told me "sorry for the (Recent) trouble with customer service, at this time i can renew for you at $49". I repeated that 3 times on the phone call: (1) to her directly (2)told her again that i need her to be on hold for 2 minutes to see if my wife will renew at $49 (3) i want to know she is charging only $49. She asked for my credit card info and went ahead and charge at $99 even i repeatedly told her $49. At no time during this phone call that she told me that it is not $49. She only told me that she charged $99 after i asked her again how much she's charged.
(E) supervisor tried to make me keep my renewal at $99 by telling that i will lose my choice to renew if he has to give me the refund.
- at this time, he can't do anything for me. He told me that he can refund the $99 that her employee charged. But i will lose the choice to renew my contract. I told him according to what they have been telling me, i should have the next 90 days to make the decision to renew. Why is he telling me that the refund (Which they screwed up to begin with) will void my choice to renew within next 90 days. Only then, he told me that he can change it so i have that choice for the next 90 days.
All I want is a simple workout, a weight room, a water fountain, maybe a shower. I'm not picky. And you may want the same. Walk into a 24 hour fitness, and you will find a room full of salesmen, racks full of get-leans, get-bulked, and get-laids, a meat market of fake tans, and somewhere behind the marketing mahem a line full of people looking to use the bench press. And yes the price seems right, and at 3AM all of those salesmen go home and than you can fit in your workout. But when you ask to tour the facilities and you sit down with your beefcake of a tour guide, ask yourself why they want the down payment, why they have 10 people competing over your business, why is the special signup deal is about to end(there will be a signup deal that is about to end), why does the salesperson keep calling, why do you have to set up a direct payment account, why do they charge for two months in advance.
You want to workout, you are willing to pay to workout, you don't need to be put through the scheme. You don't need to hire a lawyer and cancel your credit card to end your membership. You just want to work out. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!
I have been a member of this 25 Hour Fitness Club for over a year. This club has consistantly gone down hill from a cleanliness standpoint. The rest rooms are ALWAYS without toliet paper and when you complain to the front desk they are very rude and state "well we have some in boxes". This certainly doesn't help the poor individual that requires toilet tissue at the time. The floors are filthy, the woman's bathroom sanitary box is not changed frequently, needless to say the smell isn't pleasant. I have brought this to the attention of the manager on several occassions and the new woman who heads up the cleaning services who quite frankly could care less.
I have spoken with many other members of this club and they all share the same as what I've expressed. I hear the men's bathroom is worse that what I've described.
If this club does not take action immediately to address the unsanitary conditions, I will report them to state health inspectors office.
I have no problem taking photos to show proof of my claims, however, it does state that 24 hr does not allow any photographs to be taken in the club so if anyone has an ideas on how to get around this, please share them.
bad customer service
I have been trying to put a hold on my membership for several months; each time they tell me that the freeze was put yet keep charging my card! When I call to ask WTF - they tell me that "their records do not show that a hold on the membership was requested." I have called them, I went there personally, I submitted several e-mails - same song and dance - they keep charging me! Plus, they are ALWAYS RUDE! What a bunch of ###s - I hope they will get a class action against them soon! Running their business like that - I hope people will figure out what a bunch of ###s they are and put them out of business.

Recently I had occasion to come to the Center gym on a Thursday night and have a discouraging incident occur at the front desk.
I think I was at the counter for close to 10 minutes - which is by far the longest I have ever had to wait. But what was more of a concern is the fact that not only was I standing at the register side of the counter with noone helping me for a while. I was essentially ignored by the woman at the counter who never said
anything to me at all.. XXXX who was working the counter, never ever looked my way, explained that she could not help me much less that someone was on their way to help me check in myself and my child. I guess the expectation was that I should stand there endlessly waiting for an explanation, some
acknowledgement, some courtesy.
This is why after 5 minutes of standing by without any attention whatsoever, I moved over behind 3 other people (who had arrived after me and were being assisted) with getting access into the gym. I then had to stand there for another 5 minutes and when XXXX (the counselor) finally came to assist me she immediately told me she could not help me and that I had to go back over to the register to be helped (now behind 2 other people). When I explained that I had been there prior and she ignored me then, she was completely uncontrite, a tad bit rude and basically indicated that it was my tough luck and she owed me nothing at all - not an apology, not courtesy, much less assistance because she is "a counselor". I don't exactly know what her comment meant - but I am wondering if perhaps there is a new definition for that word now a days? Maybe her definition is someone who is professional, decent and "helfpul" when it suits them.
In any event, I have found that while the Center gym is great as far as layout/design, equipment, cleanliness and size - all great things! Some of the counter customer service is lacking in efficiency and courtesy (minus a few great quality individuals). There have been other confusing and congested incidents but hey things happen and time passes but this incident was by far the most unacceptable and frustrating to date.
So, suffice it to say you can sign me ignored and disgruntled...
Monthly payments had been deducted from my credit card by 24hr fitness for over 18 years. I hardly used the services. About 6 years ago I started to take 2 yoga classes a week, and then they narrowed my 2 classes down to 1. I continued to go until for health and other personal reasons I did not go to the one yoga class any more. In 2011 I went back because they had started a new class, so I could go to 2 a week. It was then when I was told that my membership had been terminated because they had not been able to collect payments. I reviewed my statement and realized that when banks issue new cards they have a new number. I went back to the gym and showed them, I made several phone calls, I sent a couple of emails and I asked them for a copy of the letter they should have sent me to let me know they had not received my payment with no results. They had the correct address, but yet, no letter was sent. Why? They were just trying to get me to pay $29.99 a month instead of my $15.00. My husband has a membership also, but they still want $29.95 a month, because the employees are not interested in anyone, but they commission they are getting in their pockets with new clients only. Has anything been solved? I have read many of your complaints here.
Ive had horrible experiences with 24 hour fitness and the information they gave me at the corporate office was not accurate. Their "super sports" are sometimes worse than the regular ones. The gym I used to go to would have band-aids in the pool, sweaty machines, green hot tub water...it was disgusting. Also their cleaning crew would sometimes clean in the girls locker room and they wouldn't get out for 5 minutes or even offer me a room to change in. They wanted me to wait 30 minutes for them to clean. As I understand it's a job that needs to be done, it was like 4am (those of us who like to work out early) and they should have provided some type of changing area. When I brought this complaint to the management they also said the people shouldn't have been cleaning at that time since early risers start to come at that time. I can say though, the gym has gotten better within the last 2 years, at least it did for me.
I have had the worst expericane with 24 Hour fitness in Mesquite TX. Whatever you dont pay them any money up front and dont pay them in cash Since they will claim nothing was paid and cancel your membership. Without a notification letter saying that you are about to get terminated from contract and the customer services SUCKS they dont know what they are doing and put you on hold and then promise that some one will call you back ... NO ONE EVER CALLS BACK! The club mangers DONT care about their current customers only New ones since they are tryin to get their MONEY SCREW the CURRENT CUSTOMERS... I am taking my situation with the state to file a complain every body needs to do the same its not fair that they can do this to their customers.

terrible service from manager
So today I stopped at the 24 Hour Fitness, Miramar, FL location, that recently opened a few months ago and decided to go check out to see if I would switch from LA Fitness. I walk in, filled in some info and waited about 5-10 mins which I really didn't mind at all since I figured the place was new, probably didn't have all the sales agents or maybe they were all busy. A guy came, named Rob, walked in front of me and said "what’s up" which felt a bit rude. I then cordially extended my hand, shock his hand and said "how you doing, I would like to check out the gym please". Initially I thought, "This must be the new guy" and decided to ignore it. He walked me around and showed me the placed without going into much detail which I actually prefer since I like to ask questions if I have any instead of being told everything about it. Once we were done, he stayed quiet so I asked if they had any specials and he says "$65 startup, well, $64 really, and then $29.99/month. The $64 covers first and last month" in which I said "oh, same as LA Fitness basically. " I honestly don't understand how this comment could have made him react like this but he pauses and says " I really don't care if you think is the same or not" then he walks me by the stairs, goes in a different direction and says "take care buddy". I kept walking a bit shocked at his response and at the undeserved and careless service. Once I stepped into the stairs he comes back and says "well, how much were you thinking about paying" to which I replied "well maybe around $20-$25 and then I said "I know you probably don't care if is the same as LA Fitness or not but it’s a bit rude to say that to a customer". He then passed me while going down the stairs as to lead me outside and replied "Well, I really don't care what you think. You came here with this attitude from the beginning" and kept walking. I asked "what attitude?" and he said "You came here like you just wanted to checkout the place and that’s it". I asked again, "what attitude?" and then said "Well, I just really wanted to check out the place. What were you expecting me to do? Ask you 100 questions?" in which he said "Yes. I would have go in deep about some things". And I explained to him that just because you don't ask questions about things doesn't mean you are not interested. I have been a member of LA Fitness for 8 years and wanted to switch to 24 Fitness because it is about 1 mile from my house and is 24 hours and just wanted to see if it offered the same accommodations, which it does. I don't need to ask him questions about anything since I have been a member of a very similar gym for too many years and I know what everything is for and how it works. He kept ranting and trying to justify how he really doesn't care at all what I think and pointed at the door and said if I don't like it the door is there and told me I could leave. I then said that I was not going to allow somebody to speak to me like that without a reason and that I would like to speak to his manager. With a very arrogant attitude he pointed at this ID badge who said "Manager" and said "I AM the manager". This continued and he asked me how much do I make and started making comments about how much he makes and that he drives a Range Rover and makes over $250, 000 a year and that he could care less if I subscribe or not since $60 won't make a difference to him. How he doesn't care what I think or who I talk to there. All this was happened in the front desk and the receptionist, Tasha, and a customer who happens to be a friend of mine from LA Fitness!
Honestly at this point I was incredibly furious and decided to ignore any further remarks to avoid a confrontation. I couldn't believe how arrogant this guy was and how he was allowed to work your place by treating customers like that. In my entire life I have never felt offended, mistreated and insulted enough so to officially file a complaint. This was at a location that just recently opened and the bad publicity won't help. It is very frustrating the fact that I do not feel comfortable to give my money to 24 Fitness and this location just because of the unpleasant service this gentleman provided me with. I really would like to know how your company would handle this. I’m not sure if this guy is a great sales men or not, but one unsatisfied customer speaks louder than 100 satisfied ones. I’m hoping to get a response from you within a reasonable time and see how you are going to handle this since I still would like to join your gym but would feel terribly uncomfortable with this gentleman there.

If this happens, use your cell phone and call corporate.
Have them call the 24 you are at and have them speak with you and the ### on speaker. See what happens then.
intentional mis-billing
Essentially this is billing harassment. (1) They will continue to bill you checking account after they are supposed to stop (2) They will lose payment records and repeatably ask for proof. I'm convinced it is in their business model to abuse clients that have negotiated a low annual payment but attend thief facilities frequently. Statistically they will encourage a people to quit that provide low revenue. This is evil and must be against the law. If you are experiencing these abuses, i encourage you to submit a complaint with your state attorney general.

My son was home from college and I spoke with a 24-hour Fitness rep in person at their Boulder, CO facility to purchase two months of workout time. I spoke with a very friendly woman who had me pay approx. $80 for two months of membership — she never mentioned that I had to cancel the membership so I wouldn’t be charged monthly, nor did she tell me that the membership would have to be cancelled by a specific date. So, yesterday, on my online banking statement, is a monthly (additional) charge for $39.99. I immediately call the manager, Ross Paller, (after talking to two other people about this), and he just reads from his list of answers, and will not hear what I am saying to him about his rep’s mistake. So I call the corporate headquarters in California, and I get the same thing after 20 minutes on the phone explaining (yet again) the circumstance. I’ve heard about this company’s tactics before but went there because it’s the closest gym to us geographically. But here’s what I’m going to do: I’ve just heard of a person who is having success in building a class-action law suit against these business practices of 24-hour Fitness. I’m giving her a call today and will be among those people looking to file that suit...hoping that with enough complaints, a law firm will pick it up as a money-maker for them. This type of membership abuse must end, and I would strongly suggest to all those who have had bad experiences with 24-hour Fitness and have not done anything, to post your complaint to this website: www.sueeasy.com so it can be referenced in the future. I’m also filing a complaint with the Colorado Secretary of State which handles business practices within the state. Not only is this a stupid business practice, I believe it to be anti-community. That which they say is so important to 24-hour Fitness. Let’s look at the numbers: Because they won’t return my $39.99, they have now lost my business forever, and the business of my wife and two teenagers. And, being a creative director for a very long time, I have a LOT of contacts, and you can be sure that everyone of those 8, 000+ people on my email list will hear about this story. How much money will they lose because they’re so greedy not to return $39.99. What a lack of common sense!
I have a similar situation and I am trying to get a class action lawsuit started. If enough people post their case on www.sueeasy.com it can possibly be picked up by a participating law firm. My post can be found through the following link:

failed to deliver, then took more
About this time last year I joined 24 Hour Fitness with my husband. Along with our monthly memberships, I paid $100 extra for five training sessions to get me "kickstarted". The first trainer assumed, I guess because I wore t-shirts and sweats to work out instead of Nike gear, that I was a drug dealer and asked if he could buy some drugs from me in a "training" session. I don't sell drugs. He failed to appear for our second appointment, and after the third time we got together he quit working there. I was allowed to start over with another trainer, who was much nicer, but also quit after 4 sessions. I never got the info sheet he was to give me at the last session to remind me what I had done in the other sessions.
In the meantime my husband had a near-hypothermia experience in the pool and got a rash, we assume from the handle of an exercycle.
I tried to use the rest of the club and not belabor the point with the weights, but the only time that it's convenient to go there, it's so crowded you can't get onto the cardio machine you want, whether it's the stair stepper or the elliptical ski machine. I also tried the yoga class, but again it was so crowded as to be embarrassing to crowd in even more.
Finally I wanted to cancel my membership and called them October 5, only to receive my November credit card bill with a charge from 24 Hour Fitness for my month's membership fee, charged on October 25. I called the club and apparently that's standard practice and part of the small print in the contract. I consider it a raspberry in the face after the shoddy service I received there. I spoke to one "manager" who wanted to meet with me to refund part of my money, but the day I was to meet him I called the club to reschedule and there was no answer at all (I dialed twice). Just today I spoke to another "manager" there, since the one I spoke to ten days ago doesn't work there anymore either, and he told me there was no way he could help me.

scary employees
I was member and was treated the way many employees were who have won suits against them. I rebuffed a trainer employed at 24 who flirted with me, followed me home when he saw me walking, physically hugged me or tried to on two occasions. A while after rejecting him he screamed at me and threatened me at the gym and then in my neighborhood (he lives near me). I immediately filed a complaint regarding his behavior with management (their own policy states this type of behavior is not allowed at the gym). Then he threatened me outside the gym. I eventually hired an attorney at a great expense who drafted a letter telling this man we wanted the harassment and slander (by this time he was slandering me at the gym) to cease or the next step was a restraining order. I notified 24-Hour Fitness of my need to obtain an attorney and two weeks later a "new" manager escorted me out of the gym and told me not to return. After numerous calls I was told my file was tagged and only one person could talk to me. I withdrew my membership after I was given no reason for the escort out of the club and was told I had violated something which was false.
The trainer continued stalking and harassing me. I obtained a TRO=Temporary Restraining Order and at the Hearing for an PRO he admitted to battery on someone else and a police complaint indicated another assault on a woman during Road rage.
During the case he stated, "this all started at 24-Hour Fitness, " and produced my name and membership status and 3 letters from other members complaining about me. He stated that I was "kicked out of 24-Hour Fitness and was never allowed to join another one." He produced a document obtained from 24-Hour Fitness that stated my membership status, "revoked." As his defense was filled with documents from 24-Hour Fitness and the fact they bullied the "whistle blower" me, when I complained makes me believe he has made them party to a law suit. He had solicited the letters from friends and co-workers (all dated after my complaints to management) which I never had a chance to defend, in order to "kick me out" of the gym. Recently I rejoined the gym and I told them I was a previous member and I still live at the same address. They signed me up without incident. So at the very least this man is using information from 24 hour fitness to slander and harass me.
This is a man the gym has hailed as an "Ambassador to the China Olympics." He is now being investigated by the DA for violation of the Court Order (TRO). This would be egg on their face. They supported a guy who now has an admission of battery, another police report of Battery with Road Rage, and an investigation by the DA for violating the TRO. ALL PUBLIC RECORD at the San Diego Civil Division. He was sent to China by 24 hour fitness after a Police Complaint for Assault and Battery.
Fitness industry rife with corruption: banking in on fatness not fitness (they do not want you to be fit or they make no money). No one has taken on this organization because they spend a lot on advertising. Numerous women in my region were stalked by employees of 24-Hour Fitness who got their home addresses after they scanned into the club with their membership card.
The fitness industry is rife with sexual harassment and unfair practices. They are not about fitness but about sales. Buyer beware.
All clubs have sketchy employees. I have had a restraining order against the head trainer at 24 Hour Fitness, UTC/Westfield in San Diego, CA. This same trainer has several police reports for assault, battery and road rage. When I brought this information (including police reports and court records) to the highest levels at 24 Hour Fitness - HR and legal - they did nothing but harass me (kill the messenger). Probably because this trainer makes them money and I was grandfathered in at a ridiculously low price. Corrupt company overall. Also a pattern with employees. A women at my new gym (not 24) said that employees look up hot women and get their addresses and personal information.
I agree.
I was harassed by an employee at the Irvine Ultra Sport location. My fellow coworkers who also use this gym were sexually harassed by the same membership sales associate. I have reached out to numerous managers, corporate HR, and their 1-800 numbers to no avail. In addition, they charged me $160 for one month's dues. I should be paying $39.99. Had I known this gym was filled with slimy men I would have never signed up. There is something horribly wrong with this company.
AVOID 24 Fitness at ALL COSTS.
I agree.
I am a member of the Agassi Super Sport in Laguna Niguel. I had an employee their threaten my life multiple times and even leave me notes at the club.
This person 'Rudy' even admitted to the HR person he left me notes and one night they had on tape him following me out to my car, to threaten me.
He wants to kill me because I believe God is love and he feels it is people such as myself that has allowed gays into the church. He works the front desk so I could not avoid him. Initially they made a deal with me which was that he would not be allowed back at this particular location as he works the front desk in Laguna Hills.
Then they started scheduling him again, and despite the repeated threats to me, he is back at the location.
The manager at this location simply does not care, ignored my concerns for myself and others. He (Rudy) is mentally distraught and might decide to take it out on himself or others. Anyone who dares to have a different view on God. They tell me that he is a dependable employee.
Let this serve notice that I have emailed, spoken on the phone to alert 24 Hour Fitness at the corporate offices, Laguna Niguel and Laguna Hills location.
They 24 Hour Fitness are aware of the threatening notes, and watched a video tape of his pursuing me. They do not care about this ticking time bomb.
wow, how come the complaint before me was from San Diego as well? is there some sketchy about the 24 hour fitnesses in san diego or something?
There is a patron who exercises with headphones on and he is loud and
obnoxious and starts singing in dancing loudly in my face and others
around me.
since we are on exercise bikes it is hard to move,
especially since he usualy comes after people have been there for 10
or so minutes. i havent beeen to the gym in almost 6 months and this
man finds me.
All i did was raise my index finger to my mouth, and the man came up
and threatened me with bashing my face in. i told him that i studied
law and that assult doesnt require violence, all it needed was verbal
threats. he backs off, leaves, comes back, and patrick kelley comes,
all the while my increased heartrate of 160 starts to subside and he
starts reprimanding me, saying he doesnt believe that his friend
threatened me, (he mentioned the man was hisfriend) asking me to
divulge private informations in front of other patrons. i told him to
wait till i was finished, that i checked in legally, showed him my
elevated heartrate, and i was forced to leave.
I am now afraid to go back to this 24 hour fitness, i was treated
unfairly, the man who harassed and assaulted me was hardly batted an
eye.
I dont want to make a big PR thing out of this but i will, i have
never been so humiliated, degraded, harassed, bothered, and assaulted
in such a short time span in my entire life.
i would not be surprised if this wasnt the first time you were
complained to be out this person, and if i am the first i am certain i
will not be the last, at first i thought the guy was 'slow' or had
some kind of problem but he seems to be completely intenionally aware
of his distraction and the nuisance he caused.
This has been going on for over a year and i never said anything, but
when i come back to the gym that i havent been to in 6 months, and
then i get yelled and sung and annoyed and harassed and assaulted and
then reprimanded by the biased manager, i have a problem.
The only reason the man left me alone and didnt keep saying he was
gonna "BASH MY FACE IN" was because i told him i knew assault only
required the threat of violence, not actual violence.and it was he
only left me alone for a small reprieve to call his friend the manager
to humiliate me

I tried out the 24 Hour Fitness here in Scottsdale after seeing a trial month offer. But after 2 weeks I decided that I liked the Village Health and Racquet Club a lot better. When I went to go cancel my account, they told me that I would be forced into a 6 month membership.
What good is the trial then? Eventually after arguing, they canceled my membership. By trial, I guess they mean that they will put you on 'trial' and force you to defend yourself for even trying out their cruddy establishment.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Yes! Let's do something! Contact me, please!
Somebody needs to file a class action lawsuit against 24 hour fitness for their Super Sport location fees. They tricked us years ago into buying a lifetime membership and now that they are opening up super sports all over the place, they are dishonoring the contract. Their justification: more square footage and a basketball court! Join me as I fight this apparent breach of contract. Also, if there is a pending / current class action lawsuit against 24 hour fitness, please let me know of it. You can contact me at charlesjclose@yahoo.com
restriction of services
I have been a member of 24 Hour Fitness for over 20 years and was told the advantage of this membership was the number of gyms across the nation that I could use. I recently visited the new 24 Hour Fitness on ElCamino Real in Millbrae, CA. The sign on the building showed the 24 Hour logo, but when I attemped to sign in with my membership card, I was told that this was a 'sport' gym and if I wanted to use it, even though I was a 24 Hour member that I would need to pay an additional $10.00. I already pay an annual fee and was never notified that I would be restricted from certain 24 Hour gyms. This is a very nice facility, but the one I ended up going to in Serramonte was filthy. Isn't this prohibited use of 24 Hour centers a breech of my original contract? These 'sport' centers should not be using the 24 Hour logo if they are restricting their customers from using the facility.
I was never notified of the class action back in 2008. I have been a continuous member since 1983. How do I benefit from the class action. I have asked the clubs that I attend and they just told me I need to pay to upgrade.
I signed up in November 2000 with an "all fitness clubs and sport club" membership and years later they came up with the "Super Sport" title on a club that is nearly identical to the regular club. Now they want me to pay more. I spent half an hour discussing this issue with their complaint department and was told to go pound sand. Terrible customer service. I plan on taking them to court.
Yes here we are nearly 2012, and i have been with 24 hour fitness for nearly 10 years. How do they repay me you ask? Well for starters, all the gyms that have sport club amenities in orange county/Irvine area are converted to Super or Ultra sports. For the lovely price of an extra $20 or $50 dollars, depending on ultra or super, I can upgrade my membership to take advantage of the amenities I already pay for. Or better yet, I can jump on the 405 and drive an hour during traffic hour to go to an accommodating all club sport fitness. No thanks, I will gladly pay more for LA fitness now..Have a good life 24 hour!
I have an "All Club" membership providing unlimited access to clubs around the United States. 24 hours is now going through conversion of some of their clubs into SUPER Club. Personally, I have seen some clubs with not much of a change and some with a major rehab. either way, i see no reason to be excluded from any club that was already in operation at the time i signed the agreement. however, i am now excluded even fro clubs in my area which i used to visit from time to time. I believe that 14 hour fitness is in violation of the written agreement and especially the spirit of the spirit in which the contract was presented to me at the time of sign up. i was assured time and again that my membership cost will not change and I will be able to visit any 24 hr's club, now in existence, and any one built in the future.

I strongly agree. If a class action is started, count me in. This is a rip off. I thought I was the only one that was denied admission to these new "Super Sports". I've been with 24 hour fitness for 12 years, and my contract clearly says I have unlimited access to ALL the centers. I'm not about to drop another $10 to "upgrade".
I have a membership that also provides for unlimited access to clubs around the United States. However, with the advent of the SUPER Club, now these memberships which should be grandfathered, cost more money to suposedly "upgrade" to the better gym. What's to prevent this company from forcing everyone to upgrade by eventually eliminating older complexes. This must be in violation or in breach of the contractual provisions. Has anyone successfully argued this to 24 Hour Fitness? This almost seems like a class action dispute to me.
misleading, dishonest, agressive, rude,
I went to 24 hour fitness on 09/04/08 to recieve information about a gym membership. Upon recieving that information it was assumed id be purchasing the membership that day, which I had no intention of doing as I didnt have the money. I was encouraged to leave a small deposit to start the membership and informed that I would have 5 business days to...

My wife and I have been members/clients of 24 Hour Fitness since 1997 where we joined the club in Pleasanton, CA. We moved to Missouri and have been trying for 4 months to cancel my wife's membership (she gets her workout chasing 4 kids). She has called several times and was told 24 Hour Fitness policy prohibits them from canceling memberships over the phone? What if we lived in a State without a local 24 Hour Fitness Center? She was told memberships could only be canceled "in person". Since I workout at the Chesterfield MO center, I spoke to the person behind the desk the very next day and asked them to cancel my wife's membership - done. Or so we thought, the very next month we get a debit for both membership dues. I spoke to the person (different person this time) behind the desk and was told they bill 1 month in arrears, so billing should stop the following month. Didn't happen. So, once again I brought this matter to the attention of the person behind the desk (3rd different person), and was told my wife's account shows it is "closed/terminated". Guess what, this month we got billed again for both membership dues, and this time the person behind the desk (4th different person) told me I would need to “come back in person during normal business hours to speak with a sales person". Quiet obvious this is an intentional business model implemented by 24 hour fitness to generate unwarranted revenue. Since 24 Hour Fitness Centers do not belong to the BBB, it is difficult without Legal assistance to get them to act ethically and with integrity.
I stopped going to 24 hour fitness about a year ago. I usually frequented the one at Lowery in Denver. The customer service at the front desk had been rude on several occasions and I came to find out that 100% of 24hr fitness' political contributions are to the republican party. I tried repeatedly to discontinue my service by telephone, but was each time put on hold for EXCESS OF 20 MINUTES. After paying for the better part of a years membership fees, and in that time failing to get through a phone call for membership cancellation, I endured the 25 minutes of "your call is important to us" recording and eventually did get a customer "service" representative. I cancelled my membership, but was told I was going to be billed for the current month as the due date had just passed. I protested, citing my difficulties in getting through, and the rep said that I could have gone to the fitness center (where customer service had become so bad) or called, and that they were not aware of any problems getting through the phone lines. I asked to talk to a supervisor, and basically was told that I had not tried hard enough to cancel my membership.
I vow to never again be a 24hourfitness member. Their service is atrocious, they have minimized their staff numbers to a point that they don't care about the customer because they are so overworked, and apparently that is the case with their call centers too. I've since joined a public rec center and am very happy with it. 24 used to have good service and nice facilities. I encourage everyone I know to join the public rec center rather than fund this corperate monster that has forgotten who keeps it's lights on. 24 hour fitness sucks 24/7.
consumer fraud
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing today having completely lost faith in your company. Having been a customer before moving to Washington, DC in 2004, I had a pleasant relationship with 24 Hour Fitness in the past. After moving back to California in spring 2008, I expected the quality customer service I had experienced in the past to continue. This however, has clearly not been the case.
In June 2008 I called your Customer Service number at [protected] to make sure that my membership (ID# H------) allowed me access to your clubs in New York City. In the conversation with the customer service agent, I also inquired about whether I should freeze my account since I was moving away from California. I was assured by the associate that my membership allowed me access to the not-yet-open Madison Square Park (MSP) club, and that the club would open for business around the time I would be moving to Manhattan. She advised me that freezing my account was not necessary.
In early July 2008, after noticing on your website http://www.24hourfitness.com that the opening date had been pushed back from June to July 31, 2008, I called the Customer Service number again. Again I was assured by an associate that my membership allowed me access to the MSP club. She also apologized for the delay in the clubs opening and assured me that the club would be open by July 31, 2008.
Around July 28, 2008 I checked the website and was excited to see that a Group X schedule had been posted. On July 30, 2008, when I checked the website to confirm the clubs location, to my surprise I found that the opening date had been pushed back yet again to August 31, 2008.
On August 6, 2008 I called the MSP club to ask when the actual opening date would be. I was told by the associate there that there was no confirmed date. I then asked her to look up my account to confirm again that I had access to the club. Upon looking up my account, she responded that I would have to pay a significant amount more ($109/month) to gain access to the club. I asked her how it could be that just less than a month ago I was told I would have access, and since she didnt know the answer, she directed me to call the Customer Service number again.
I immediately called the Customer Service number. I was told by the associate that the club had become designated an Ultra-Sport club, and that I had to pay to upgrade my membership level. She also explained that her computer system had NO RECORD of any of my previous calls. I was shocked and offered to pull my call logs (I have offered this many times, and have had my offer declined). I then asked to have my account frozen temporarily. The confirmation number she gave me for freezing my account is T858. This took place at approximately 3:40 pm EST. I was then told that someone would contact me within 24 hours to address my concerns.
Five days later, having not heard back, I called the Customer Service number again at 3:00 pm EST. After speaking with Isaac (ID# T926) and Arthur (ID# T1015) I was told that within 24 hours a manager would get back to me.
Another 24 elapsed with no response. On August 12th at 3:40 pm EST I again called the Customer Service number. I spoke to George (ID# T701) who transferred me to Bernice (ID# T955) who told me a manager would call me by 5 pm CST (6 pm EST). Again I did not hear from anyone, and to this day I havent received a call back from any of your Customer Service agents or managers.
On August 14th at 10:32 am EST I again called the Customer Service number. This time I spoke to Chris (T863) who transferred me to Mariko (ID# T961) who transferred me to Javier (ID# T558) who she claimed was the manager. Javier brushed me off, telling me there was nothing he could do and that the only actions I could take would be to write to P.O. Box 2689 and P.O. Box 2409. He also claimed that the decision to change the MSP club into an Ultra-Sport club occurred in mid to late July 2008. Furthermore, Javier expressed that although I had requested that my account be frozen on August 6th my account was still active and had not been frozen. I gave him my confirmation number of T858, and he explained that all he could do was freeze my account that day (August 14th at 11:00 am EST). My SECOND confirmation number for the freeze was given to me as T558.
At 3:05 pm EST that day, I called the MSP club to ask for more precise details to include in this letter. First off, I would like to point out that in the repeating messages played while I was on hold Derek Jeter states that the MSP club is open 24 hours a day. This is in fact false. Your MSP club, as stated on the website and by Charles Damiano (ID# 9794F) is only open from 8 am 8 pm Monday through Friday, and 10 am 5 pm Saturday and Sunday. After I finally was put through to an agent, I asked to speak with the club manager. MSP Club Manager Tom Moro (ID# 5906G) said that he would look into my situation for me and contact me within 24 hours. Again, as it seems is a trend with your company, I did not hear back within 24 hours. However, finally the East Coast Operator, Charles Damiano (ID# 9794F), got in touch with me after Tom Moro requested he do so.
In my conversation with Mr. Damiano, I was told that at best hed let me try the MSP club for two weeks, and then itd be a $99 enrollment fee and $109 monthly fee because my membership wasnt valid at the MSP club. I was and remain absolutely livid. Why was I given such false information in the first place twice? And by TWO separate associates?
Mr. Damiano also told me that your Customer Service manager Javier was misinformed. He said that the decision to make the club an Ultra-Sport was made in February and not July as Javier had said. Either way, again, why was I told I would get access? Mr. Damianos best advice was to call the Customer Service number again and ask to speak with management at the highest level. He claimed that he was just on the job and had no real contact with the corporate headquarters.
I then immediately called the Customer Service number again. I spoke with Olga (ID# T957) who transferred me to Donica (ID# T1022) who placed me on hold for 40 minutes before I was put through to Nigel (ID# T566). Nigel stated that he was the Member Services Manager. After explaining the situation to Nigel, he gave me a list of excuses. He claims the reason why my account was not put on hold on August 6th was because the associate I spoke to (Luce?) was a trainee. That is NOT a valid excuse for screwing up. He further claims that the reason why I was told by his department TWICE that I would have access to the MSP club was because theres a lack of communication between the clubs and the corporate offices, and thus information doesnt trickle down to the Customer Service associates. He further expressed that that was why Javier told me the decision to make the MSP club an Ultra-Sport was made in July whereas Mr. Damiano claims it was February. Those excuses are unacceptable.
Also, Nigel informed me that I accessed the Glendora, CA club on July 21, 2008. I am furious at this claim because I am currently living in New York City and have been living and working here since June 14, 2008. I have both my membership card and contract on me HOW COULD SOMEONE HAVE ACCESSED A CLUB USING MY MEMBERSHIP ACCOUNT WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE? That is IDENTITY THEFT and your club ALLOWED IT TO HAPPEN.
I called the Glendora club and spoke with Chris who told me the only details he could provide was that I accessed the club at 8:38 pm PST on July 21, 2008. I am demanding answers for how someone could have used my account!
So, listed below are my complaints:
Horrendous customer service. Whatever happened to actually following through and calling customers back when you promise to do so?
That person is a trainee is NOT a valid excuse. Had I not called back to follow up again my account would have been continuously activeand I would be charged a pro-rated fee for that week if/when I cancel my membership.
A lack of communication between your clubs and your corporate office is also NOT an excuse. Please deal with your internal issues accordingly.
Your Customer Service associate and website at one point said that the Midtown branch of 24 Hour Fitness in Manhattan would be open in winter 2008. When I spoke to an associate at the MSP club, she informed me that the club is not slated to open until 2010. Mr. Damiano claims the club is to open in mid-2009. When is it actually going to open, and why was I given such false information in the first place?
Had I been told in June or in July when I called your Customer Service number that my membership wouldnt give me access to any of the clubs opening in Manhattan, I would have canceled my account and accepted a pro-rated refund or frozen my account. I was specifically told not to. This means I lost over TWO months of membership.
Allowing someone to access a club using MY account without my permission or knowledge.
TRYING TO CHARGE ME $1000+ A YEAR TO GAIN ACCESS TO A CLUB I WAS ALREADY TOLD TWICE I WOULD HAVE ABSOLUTE ACCESS TO.
I am SO furious with 24 Hour Fitness right now. Please have someone contact me from your corporate headquarters, because this is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I have a very similar experience and I find it absurd that this is evidently a problem that needs to be corrected. I have been a member since 1980's before they even thought about being 24hour fitness. And I really find it upsetting how they treat there loyal members. I have called into the customer service department which does not sound like they are in the United States by the way. I also would like to have Corporate to look into these issues and make a resolution that is fair.
Member Since the 80's
[protected]
I have a dispute with 24hour Fitness. I have been a member since 2002 and referred many people to you club that have joined. My mom was diagnosed with cancer for the second time and had to drop everything. I had gone in prior to my membership being expired and not that its unusual but there systems were down. You can verify in the system that I was there to pay. I spoke with the manager Derick and John. John failed to call me back ever. Today I got ahold of Derick and he called me back but then referred me to the membership number which then transferred me to the new membership number. I called back and asked for Derick then he said that John will give me a call in a week. I asked a week, but he never returned my call the first time. His excuse for his boss was that he was out of town. Ive been through so much the past month with my mother sick again. I grew up with her having
Hodgkin's lymphoma for eight years and she was in remission for a few years now. When I heard the news that she was diagnosed again I was devasted. It effects you different when your an adult that when your a child. My mom was diagnosed with a cancer that only 200 people in the world have ever had. The chances of surviving arent very high. I was put on anti-depressents and right now Im trying to get off of them thinking I can get back in to the gym to get my Serotonin up more. The last thing on my mind was to renew my membership at that time. Now the only thing on my mind to stay sane is to have my membership back. Can someone please help. Nobody will help and I just need to get back in the gym. I have letters from the Drs. that I had to give to my school to get me out of my classes so it didnt effect my grades since I was pass the dropping date and letters to my work because I had to take leave to be their with my family.
If someone could please contact me 805.886.0252. I am determined to get my membership and will do whatever it takes. Please help. Thanks
24 Hours is the absolute worst customer service, I too, have EVER encountered. Not to mention they charge your credit card for fees and services that you never signed up for! There is major fraud happening throughout their organization and I hope they pay the ultimate price for it. 24 HOUR FITNESS IS A HORRIBLY RUN ORGANIZATION AND THEIR EMPLOYEES ARE NOT TRAINED PROPERLY WHICH FURTHER CONFIRMS THEIR LACK OF CARE FOR THEIR CLIENTS AND PAYING CUSTOMERS. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, JOIN A DIFFERENT CLUB.
bmw stolen, thief stole gym bag from the men's locker
On the Labor Day ( 9/1/2008), I parked my Blue 4d Sedan BMW ( nameplate: SUDSBMW) in the 24 Hr parking lot and headed to the 24 Hr gym located at the Bayfair mall, San Leandro, CA 94578 around 5p. I kept my gym bag securely inside the mens locker and locked with a combination lock. When I returned to the locker at 6p, the slot where I put my bag was taken by another person with a different lock. I returned to the parking lot and found my car stolen. I called 9-1-1 immediately and reported this incident. The case # is 08-41630.
This theft looks organized and well planned. I have also a suspicion that the crime couldn't have been completed so flawlessly without the assistance of a 24Hr staff. Breaking the lock, stealing the bag and leaving the 24Hr center without a trace in a crowded public place seems astounding to me.
I have done my job in filing a police report. The San Leandro Theft Investigation Unit is conducting the necessary investigation to catch the criminal. The insurance company is also going to hire a private detective. I have been also contacted by a reporter to publish this story in the newspapers.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I had the same thing happen at this gym. Been going there for 3 years. Thought it was a dump mostly because of the restrooms and shower stalls. I gave it a chance considering this gym, Washington Sport and High Street are the closest ones to where I live. Two months ago, I got off work and decided to go to this location. I was there for less than an hour and a half and noticed my combination lock was set different after I finished my workout. I checked my gym bag and my wallet was missing as well as a pair of black jeans. They even opened a zipper on my bag that I never use. I noticed a guy in the locker room who I knew was not a member. He looked homeless and walked around with no shoes on. He even left an old funky sweater on the bench. I went to the front desk to report the theft and then I heard him try to report that someone had taken his shoes. He refused to give his name and 10-digit account number and I knew what was up. I knew it was an inside job but it's not what you know, it's what you can prove. I figured somebody working there was involved also with whoever took my wallet. They used my bank cards at Target, Chili's and Lucky's but I heard from the banks via text and email and they were right on top of it. I've been to other locations and you can't just walk in there with no membership. I notice this place has a history of thefts over the last 10 years. They need to tighten up security inside and out.
MY FATHER TO GYM BAG WAS STOLEN FROM HIS GYM LOCKER WITH THE PAD LOCK CUT. THIS HAPPEN IN SAN JOSE ON THURDAY -12-2011. HIS CAR KEY WAS TAKEN, CLOTH, WALLET, AND GYM BAG. I ALSO BELIVE THIS WAS AN INSIDE JOB BECOUSE IT HAPPEN WITHIN 30 MIN. THE MANAGER DAVE, THERE SAID THERE WAS NO CAMARA IN THAT PLACE.
The same thing just happen last night and i believe the 24HourFitness Staff was in on it! What happen?
gym falling apart
The Family Fitness Center on Bellflower and Spring st. is falling apart. Broken mirrors, ungodly locker room stench, and disabled workout machines are a constant factor here. I never see an employee wiping down body fluids on benches left by indifferent patrons or employees making sure that rules are being followed on gym floor. (Screaming and throwing heavy weights on floor). Employees seem to be only concerned with chatting on cell phones or trying to enlist future prospects to a long, expensive contract. Many of the personal trainers are overweight or bone thin and need to be in training themselves.
The Long Beach gym is by and large in disrepair and the machines that everyone wants to use always seem to be broken. There are a number of other issues with employee treatment of members, not enforcing their own rules, billing practices, unethical behavior, etc, etc, etc.
If corporate giants such as 24 hour fitness fail to realized that they have an image, employee, business practices problem then they will eventually fail! But only if people put their money where their hearts are. If they do you wrong and fail to make it right or at the very least acknowledge it, then walk away, cancel your membership and tell them why you are cancelling. Encourage others to do the same. Boycotting is a time honored practice and is OUR part of the checks and balances that keeps these giants in shape.
Of the many hundreds of customers that file complaints and suggestions, ten are under the surface that just haven't spoken up, either because they feel it is futile to face the 24 hour machine. I have even heard the employees complain but even they feel powerless to make change.
I recently came to the realization that I no longer wanted to belong to the LB club or any other part of their network due to a sexual harrassment issue I experienced in their locker room against people of same sex orientation. One of the sales/employees was complaining loudly in the presence of a group of men about how disgusting the gays in the sauna room were. The attitude of this guy was unbelievable to me. I called the gym manager on this and demanded that he recieve some harrassment training and offer a letter of apology. She tried to justify his words and went as far as stating that she could not force him to write an apology. I asked for a full refund of my fees to which she still hasn't come through on.
I am cancelled as of the 1st of September 2009. The day I took my stand against the 24 Hour Fitness folks. Grassroots boycott is what I say needs to happen for whatever reason they might have wronged you.
I agree in large part. Many of the night employees are lazy and the equipment/lockers/doors/showers stay broken for long periods of time. The locker room, shower room, sauna and steam room need thorough disinfectant type cleaning. One night clerk is a particular jerk as he obnoxiously confronts members about petty rules. He's a Hitler in waiting with a very bad arrogant attitude.

For the past 2 weeks I've been fending off repeated phone calls from 24 Hour Fitness. I went in there simply to inquire about a membership, get a flier and leave to do my research and decide for myself. What I got was a high-pressure sales pitch. They told me they didn't have any fliers, and that I needed to fill out an "inquiry form" that included my name, address and phone number. Then three male employees sat me down at a desk and used a notebook showing different plans (none of it was arranged by total cost, by they way). They insisted that I drop $160 on the spot to join. When I explained that I was just inquiring about their membership plans, I was repeatedly told that if I cared about myself, I'd join immediately and that $160 was a great deal but that if I didn't care about myself I didn't have to join. It was absolutely disgusting! They danced around the total price (I never believed that $160 would take care of anything at this place, and I never got a straight answer). I finally stood up and told them all that their Crazy Eddie approach was driving me away, and that I wanted no further contact from 24 Hour Fitness. They refused to return my "inquiry form", and for the past 2 weeks I've stopped answering my cellphone. They've called me more than a dozen times, each time insisting that they've got a great deal for me but that I need to act fast, etc. The last message was really pathetic, something about how he (the employee calling) was going to lose his job if I didn't sign up. If that's true, he needs to be somewhere else, anyway! From what I've seen of this organization and it's employees, they are nothing but scam artists. I wanted to take a shower the instant I walked out of there, and I hadn't even worked out. Avoid this place!

rude treatment and the worst employees
I have been a member of this gym for more than two years, until today. I had a bad experience in the Pasadena branch, where the staff is the worst, they have a guy who is personal trainer, by the way he is kind of overweight to be, but they went with an idea of leaving an special area for personal train, where you can't use the equipment, even if they are not using, is absurd and this guy was very rude he actually grab from my hands a piece of equipment that nobody was using.
That kind of ideas and attitudes are not in your contract, but if you want an advice stay away of this gym.
bad management - no preventing of abuse between members
Regarding the Sun Valley Mall 24 Hour Fitness facility, I spoke with a manager named Damon today...and Damon is a nice man, but, he and his co-manager Carlos are upholding company policies which are abusive to customers.
My major peeve is that the 24 Hour Fitness policy is for staff to do no policing of member behavior with respects to being civil to other members, and to share equipment rather than monopolizing equipment once a member is using a particular piece of equipment.
Last night, 8/6/08, I waited until 8PM or so to go to the gym so I was not there at peak use hours. During this work out, I had 2 unpleasant experiences, one of which resulted in me suffering through one of the clubs meat head customers using a lot of vulgar, threatening language on me, directly in front of one of the club employees (Mike - 50 year old, seasoned trainer types). I had asked the other member to allow me to work in with him on a particular weight lifting machine...he had just completed one set, and he told me that I could not use the machine until he was completed with two more sets...accordingly, the other member refused to share the equipment and as I walked away, he offered me a pleasant "### you."
I promptly went to get Mike the trainer...& Mike came back with me (which took about 2 minutes) and Mike asked the member why he would not share the equipment...and the other member said he only needed the equipment for 60 seconds...which is nonsense...no one does 3 sets of the same lifting excercise in 60 seconds...Mike accepted the other members story, and when I pointed out the folly of the discussion, the other member let out a string of threatening vulgarities...lots of ### yous, and you are an ###...etc etc etc...and Mike refused to require the member to stop with the verbal attack...and instead, Mike became animated with me and using a loud tone of voice expressing that I was not letting him do his job.
My view is that it was Mike's job to require the sharing of equipment amongst members, and to require all members to behave civilly...but this is not what occurred. Instead, the situation was escalated, and the possibility of having a true physical confrontation was very real.
The sad thing is that I have had other, previous protracted discussions with the club's manager, Carlos, as well as another manager named Damon...as well as their District Manager...and they felt no need to police the behavior of their members, or to require a pleasant sharing of equipment amongst members. I addressed the issue thoroughly with them, and they "blew me off" and said that this was a non issue, and 24 Hour Fitness felt no need to do a better job of policing their facilities.
My thoughts with readers of this "letter" is to simply be aware that when you buy into 24 Hour Fitness facilities, that it is an inexpensive facitily with lots of access hours, but the management and safety are minimal...the clubs I have seen, including the Concord Sun Valley Mall facility are not particularly clean (particularly the showers and bathrooms)...towel and cleanliness requirements of the members is almost non existant (anyone read about the staph viruses/infections that have come to exist in recent years?)...and one has to be prepared to have conflict with other club members if you want to have access to the equipment because club employees are told to leave this kind of conflict up to the members to work things out.
Club Employees and managers like Carlos and Damon fear the possibility of losing their jobs, so they do not bring these issues up to their superiors...and if members ask to talk to upper management customer service phone lines, they will find that the customer service clerks offer to let you write letters or to talk to the local managers like Carlos and Damon, who do nothing and fear talking to superiors about policies that serve customers.
I have asked to have my initition fees refunded and my contract cancelled so I can join a new club that I prefer to be a part of without having these costs for a second time, but Damon has said that it is unlikely that I will be refunded money or to be released. What a sham...everyone knows that these excercise clubs end up dispappointing customers...this is just another example. 24 Hour Fitness is just another club looking to get your fees, then provide the absolute least amount of services possible. I suppose one gets what one pays for...you pay cheap, you get cheap and low class.
ITS A GYM. YOU HAVE TO WAIT YOUR TURN. There are other exercises you can be doing. You need to understand gyms are used by "meat heads". Either learn to act like an adult and not got tattle tailing to the teacher or leave and join Curves.

After my previous complaint (see 8/21/07) against the Ft Worth TX 24 Hr Fitness I was told by management that I would not be charged for not giving 30 days notice before leaving and that I would be reimbursed for the month of August since I was threatened with having my membership revoked and could not use the gym for August and had to go somewhere else and pay for a membership. Of course they are not only accusing and rude without reason... they are also dishonest and charged my account anyway. I tried to get something in writing from them but that was not possible and getting a hold of someone at corporate is also impossible. Basically they ripped me off and that money was way more important than my longtime membership and all of the good advertising that I had given them as a figure competitor.
I also had unauthorized charges debited. Can someone tell me what the corporate number is to make the complaint. I asked the manager and he told me it is on the website? I can not find it or a complaint section.
