poor service
I have given this company over $1400 to repair my auto pilot and as of today after 4 months it is still not working. They know exactually what is wrong { fluxgate compass} and they continue to give me the run around for the intention of trying to get more money from me. This is a one man army that runs this business from his home and the most unprofessional business person i have ever dealt with.

Unfortunately, all the negativity about Alpha is true. I bought a boat that had an Alha autopilot in it and I was thinking about having it gone through and unsing it on my circumnavigation. I sent it to Chris at Alpha Marine in Washington and from the first phone call I could tell this guy was a liar. Everything he says or does is a ploy to get the most out of you. Ive read on blog post that a common tactic he uses is to say that things are damaged in transit. He did that to me and he wanted me to charge me $4500 to get my system into shape. Come on pal that is rediculous. These pilots are obsolete and your way better off getting a modern system that is NEMA compatible and believe it or not Cheaper too. Chris is a real hustler and I tell everyone to be very cautious and don not give him your business let alone put your life in his hands by using and relying on an Alpha Pilot. The company is dead. Over.
My unit has been to Alpha Marine twice. The first time I was told the it was repaired but after I reinstalled it the boat zigzagged as it did before the repair. During my first sail I called and spoke to Chris Gade and he acted like he had no idea what I was talking about and as I lay in my lazarette trying to make adjustments nothing worked. When I said to Chris that maybe other parts of the system besides just the control board need to be looked at he said, well you didn't send them to us the first time. I was never asked to send to them more than the control board. Each conversation with Chris, I get different information and insight into the problems with my unit and am asked to send even more parts. The only left of the auto pilot onboard my boat is a couple wires. I received an email by request from Chris as to what all repairs are and the costs. I just received a letter to the same affect although it says that unless I reply to him my equipment will be discarded. Problem is that the repairs mentioned in the email and letter do not match so how do I know what to make of this? I am waiting for confirmation from Chris as to what are the real repairs and costs. My repairs started 3 years ago and still no luck and no compensation for the first repair costs that produced no different results.
by far and away the worst experience that I have had in 30 years of boating... s/v Mareva II Astoria, ore.
I am sure there are many out there with the expertise to repair these units and with them being used in remote parts of the world many could be repaired on site. However the factory seems to have no interest in helping those willing to repair their units on site. Sending a unit back to the factory from a remote location could take months and be very expensive for which I am sure many times the problem is minor.
If the units are as reliable as the advertising indicates, there can not be a large profit in repairing them.
cem
is any one know how to conect the remote control for the 3000 Alpha Aoutopilot?
I had a fault and had to play 20 questions with them via email as i live in australia. Between following there instructions and running between boat and computer they inered that what i had dine caused the fault, but i only was following their direction.
cheaper and easier to buy a new, more reputable brand
We at Alpha Marine Systems have researched our records and find no one who meets this complaint pattern. Coincidentally we have been contacted by a company which claims to be able to remove this from the internet and for a monthly fee will prevent it's future publication. If anyone has a service problem with an Alpha product or service they are encouraged to contact the factory so the issue can be resolved.
