American Family Insurance Group Creit Based Insurance Fees

Back in Feb, of 2008 my husband left me without a word one except to say I had till the end of April 08 to get out. No money, no job.. I couldn't pay my credit cards off . Believe me I tried.
After he left, I asked my Amfam agent to lower my renters and car insurance as low as he could... ( I drive a 1993 Dodge since I bought it in 2006) Charlie stated I was already as low as I could go on BOTH.
Through the months since, I have asked him on several occasions if I was missing any discounts or was there any way to lower it...( I am disabled and only get minimum Social Security payments) Of course he said no, I just accepted it, He's been my Agent for 25 years. Last summer (09) my insurance was raised to 588.00 for a 6 month term.. they said because of my credit report. I told them I had told Charlie all about the split & if he could lower my insurance, told them what he said, AND told them he said it would be cheaper to leave my ex on my policy as well as my old address in New Hope.
AmFam told me if I itemize my credit report and put down what my illness/husband leaving did to each individual account, they "maybe" could lower it. I told them over & over that it affected all acounts and everything in my life!
To make a long story short, after arguing with them for 3 months, I sent a letter to a state official who directed me to the right people to contact. When I emailed a copy of the letter to them and told them I was ( and did ) going to report them, my insurance was lowered from 588.00/6 months to 356.00/ 6 months. BUT, I have no doubt that will change also. My insurance rates have gone up every time there's a change in my household for the last 15 years.
I just turned 55, no claims, no tickets... rip offs!

American Family Insurance Group Failed to Pay Claim

I wish to submit a complaint about American Family Insurance and will do so on other sites besides this one. I was involved in an accident last week where I was parked parallel besides the sidewalk (in a parking space). I looked before I opened my drivers side door and did open it but not fully because I didn't want to have someone hit my car. I turned to get my purse and to tell my children to wait until I go around to the other side to open their doors when my driver's side door was hit by a vehicle who was trying to park in a space in front of my car. The metal on my door on the bottom is peeled up now and jagged. We exchanged insurance information but did not call the police (something I now regret). My insurance company (Geico) took my statement, the other driver's statement, took pictures of both cars and said I wasn't liable and the other driver was. American Family, whose claim adjuster I had difficulty reaching and would exchange phone messages and with whom I didn't feel really showed much professionalism, left me a message yesterday that they found me liable and I would have to go through my own insurance to pay for it. American Family Insurance never took any photos of my car, I don't feel conducted a thorough investigation. Geico did. Geico has told me that if I want them to take care of it I need to pay my $500 deductable (they have to replace the door which is over $1, 000) and then we can go to arbritration with American Family Insurance to recoup my $500 which I intend to do. I did nothing wrong. My car was parked, I didn't open my door on the other driver it was already adjar. I plan to file as many complaints as possible about American Family Insurance. I totally feel they were in the wrong and they are just trying to avoid paying my claim. I hope those that read this will seriously consider not choosing American Family for their insurance needs. They will not pay out.

American Family Insurance Group Scam and cheating

I got a letter in the mail today American Family is canceling my homeowners insurance in January of 09. I am quite frankly stunned. I signed up with A.G. last year after having homeowners with another company for several years and no problems. At their urging since I had auto insurance through A.G. they gave me a good quote for comprehensive coverage and I took it. There was an inspection of the property and all was well.

About 3 months later during the winter months there was another inspection. I was told I had to repair a door to my swimming pool lock it and the fence to my back yard. A limb had fallen on one of the gates and broke it, I was waiting for spring to fix it, it was 20 degrees outside. I took care of the situation called the agent and heard nothing more until yesterday. I got a cancellation notice in the mail. It said I had not turned in requested information concerning my pool gate and deck.

I was told by my agent to correct the problems then give her a call and she would reinspect. Having done my part I heard nothing more I assumed all was well and never gave it a second thought. The issue with the deck is something entirely new. I have a large solid deck of treated lumber that I has not been stained in a couple of years, because I am going to strip it next year the red stain I use is to hot on the feet, like I said this was not an issue until I got a letter today.

I have never missed a premium or claimed anything on insurance ever, my house is kept in good repair. It's hard to tell what happened here since nobody has contacted me past the initial conversations last year. I have spoken with my agent a few times concerning other issues over the past year. I believe I dropped a 3rd car that I sold, and I called a little upset about this credit indexing A.G. was starting. If there was still a problem there was never any indication from her.

Oh well, I am going to find something else, I guess if this company can't recognize a good customer that is their loss, and I will move on. My question is of repercussion, all is well as long as I don't have problems getting insurance. If I have any problems though I have a great lawyer, who will be visiting my agent and A.G. with questions.

October 2007, car was totaled in accident. Took 6 weeks of phone tag to clear up the claim, but it got done due to some hard work from our agent. Our agent took the info on the new car, and updated the records and ordered new cards so plates and registration could be transferred.

Shortly afterward, our agent stopped dealing with AF. We called AF directly, emailed, and called again. 'Please send us the policy on the new car so we can transfer plates.' After the 1st of 2008, we contacted the original agent. Within a day, we had all the info we needed to set things straight, with another reliable company.

Finally, in March of 2008, I got a letter from an agent in another town 18 miles away. It was a nice intro letter, welcome and all that. We finally were sent new insurance cards... on the vehicle that was totaled. I contacted the agent in the letter... and left a voice mail... several in fact. Polite ones, like...please call me, I have a question about a policy?

A few weeks later, I got a collection letter from a AF for insurance due on... you guessed it... the totaled car that AF had somewhere in it's inventory of scrap cars.

SO, I called them. They told me I had to prove the car was totaled... (huh? they have those records, don't they?) and I was obligated tom pay the insurance payments from January to June. They had sent out cards for that car, remember?

I had them put disputed in the claim and asked them to verify their own records.

If you think they do their clients dirty. Look at how they do their own agents! In my opinion, American Family Insurance scams its own insurance agents. They profit from terminating their agents who are local small business owners trying to build a business to achieve their dreams. American Family Insurance is all about protecting the dreams of their clients, but at the same time they are crushing the dreams of their agents. Here are some facts:American Family Insurance agents are in a contract that can be terminated at any time for any reason.American Family Insurance agents DO NOT own their “book” (the policies) and have no rights to it if American Family chooses to terminate them. When an American Family Insurance agent gets terminated (no matter the reason, if any), all of their policies get “bulk transferred” to another agent(s). American Family doesn’t pay commissions on these bulk transfers for 12 to 23 months. In addition to corporate American Family pocketing the commission for 12 to 23 months, the agent who receives these bulk transferred policies only gets paid 57% of the normal commission rate after that 12 to 23 month period.American Family Insurance is literally profiting from terminating agents. Now, you would think that a growing insurance company would be increasing its agency force, but the amount of American Family Insurance agents has actually decreased by close to 25% over the last several years. Why would American Family Insurance terminate good agents? It doesn’t matter if you are a good agent or a bad agent, the company will profit more and help its bottom line by firing you. Even if you are a great agent, the company is paying you 100% of the commission rate on your policies. They can terminate you, transfer those policies to other agents, not pay any commissions at all for 12 to 23 months (the new agent is forced to service the policies for free) and then only pay 57% of the commission rate after that.American Family Insurance pockets 100% of the commission for those 12 to 23 months, then pockets 43% of what should be paid out to its agents.

I know someone who had full coverage insurance with American Family insurance. Their car was vandalized while sitting on a car repair shop's lot. The car repair shop did not have car insurance for their lot which is not required in the state of Missouri. When the owner of the car called the American Family Insurance to report that the car was involved in vandalism, the American Family claims adjuster failed and did not even bother to come out to the scene of the crime where the car was left sitting there on the parking lot of the car repair shop to photograph the car or view the surrounding area where the crime occurred.
That means, that they missed seeing the other cars in the parking lot that were also vandalized, the wooded fence and the wired fence that surrounded the lot and the other side of the car repair shop that was not fenced in.
Once American Family finally had the car was towed off of the lot where it was vandalized, and taken to another car repair shop for an estimate on the damages, American Family Insurance picked out just one thing to fix, and accused the owner of the car of having a collision that was not remembered and that is where the other damages came from in order to scam out of fixing all of the damages.

The only amount of money that American Family Insurance put out was less than $100.00. They also, hid the other damages from the car owner when speaking with the owner on the phone. Both American Family Insurance and the car repair shop told the owner that her car was ready and repaired ready to be picked up.
When the owner got there to pick the car up, only a portion of the damages were repaired while the other damages were left not repaired. Everyone in the American Family organization agreed to the first person, not anyone of them spoke up for the truth.
Scamming on their own clients...horrible insurance company they need to shut down...They did not even do a diagnostic test on the car after it was vandalized to determine all damages that occurred.

American Family Insurance Group CREDIT BASED INCREASES--AMERICAN FAMILY

I would like to file a complaint against American Family Insurance and their practice of using Credit Based Insurance rate increases. I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years and I've only had a hail damage claim, no accidents, and no tickets or other violations. I do not have gaps in coverage and I have always paid my premiums. I feel like the law is allowing insurance companies to take advantage of people like me who have low credit scores by charging higher premiums. My credit was affected when I became disabled and was no longer able to work. It took 2 years before I started receiving disability income so I had no way to pay my bills. I am not a 'high-risk' driver, I only drive within a 6 mile range of my home, and that is only to go to the closest Wal-Mart once or twice a month. The rest of my driving is within less than one mile from my home. I only put about [protected] miles on my car per YEAR. I have no negative driving record. I only had 2 tickets when I was 16--20 years ago! Believe me, I paid for those tickets in high premiums back then. I feel that it is totally unethical to charge insured customers like me a higher rate suddenly and charge me with being 'high-risk' when I have done nothing to ever deserve that label. I pay all of my bills on time and in full every month and I have nothing negative on my credit showing otherwise for any period in the past several years after my disability. This issue of using a credit score to raise my rates is ridiculous and considering that I live on $1, 000 a month, paying extra insurance is not conducive to making it easier to pay bills and have good credit!

i may not have the best credit rating, but i have been with this company for 30 years and have made only 3 claims, one for a theft loss while i lived in an apartment, one glass claim for the car and hail damage to the home after i was married. they have now increased my insurance premium to an unbelievable amount due to the credit history. i have never filed bankruptcy, always paid the bills, dredit card debt including any fees. and still have this outrageous premium. this is like stealing from the customer/ consumer. The state of MN has allowed this to happen to many consumers. The Dept of Insurance needs to take a closer look at this and have the underwirting departments be reviewed for this activity. This affects all of us, who don't make claims.

Same thing happened to me... Except that MY rates were raised because I divorced my husband! What in God's name does this have to do with my EXCELLENT driving record? I have had American Family insurance for more than 20 years, with 1 claim back in 1994, when a 95 year old guy broadsided my car when he failed to stop for a stop sign. I will say that American Family stood behind me all the way then. When I called to find out why my rates have been raised I was told married people are more responsible! *@*&#%* Mind you...I am not a kid with a penchant for racing. I am 60. I have had no violations or accidents. This is VERY UNFAIR. I have worked for the same company for 35 years, and pay all my bills on time. How much RESPONSIBLE do they need?

American Family Insurance Group Taking advantage of the financially challenged.

I was involved in an auto accident with a driver insured by American Family Insurance. At the time I lived in a state that does not have mandatory insurance laws. Though I did have insurance for some time, I was forced to drop it for financial reasons. The accident took place just over the border in Illinois; the other driver "thought" she had a green turn arrow and turned in front of me, causing the cars to collide. She received the ticket and even pled guilty in court. American Family Insurance refused to repair my car, which, per three estimates, is totaled. In my conversation with the claims adjuster I was informed that it doesn't matter that their driver was ticketed AND pled guilty in court, they (American Family Ins.) believe I ran a red light and am at fault. They have since requested payment from ME to reimburse them for repairing their drivers' car. It has since been turned over to a Chicago law firm for collections in the amount of over $9,800.00 !
I am also being threatened by the Illinois Dept. of Transportation with the possibility of having my registration and driving privilages suspended.
I have to take money out of my IRA in order to hire an attorney. American Family Insurance does NOT treat people as family, unless you are the black sheep. They are condescending bullies who take advantage of anyone they can.

I was recently hit by a driver who carried American Family Commercial Insurance. I was in a right lane and she was in the left and turned right and clipped my front end with her rear quarter panel. She admitted fault and apoligized and gave me her info, when I contacted her company they told me that they would only pay 80% of my damages because I did not pay attention. I asked the adjuster if he got hit the same way by a driver in the lane to his left and they turned right and cut him off if he would settle for 80% he said that was not the issue. I'll bet American Family isn't his carrier. The woman that hit me was very upset and said this is why she carries insurance so that when she needs it it should cover any damage she may cause. She pays her premiums and has never had an accident, but because of her insurance she will now have to pay out of pocket for the damage to my car.
I am glad no one was injured but I am also mad that this company can treat people this way and get away with it.
