Is not paying the death insurance claim
Warning! this company is scamming me. & has endless excesses & lies not to pay this claim. they scammed me out of an extra $1463.04, & still wanting more. this started Dec. 2019.
Normally I’m not this gullible. I made the mistake of trusting American General life Insurance Company to honor what was promised to my dad after his death. My father died late in November of 2019. shortly after that, I put in a claim. Filled out their forms, sent the death certificate, did all the things they told me to do & I thought it was done. Now I know it takes time to process a claim, before you ever see a check. I’d call about every three to four weeks to get an update, & they would claim it was still processing.
A little over a year went by, & still nothing. When my husband got deathly sick, I just forgot about it. My focus was on my husband. Many Months later, my husband began to recover. That's when I noticed American General life Insurance Company was still taking the monthly premium out of the joint checking account I still have with my dad. Of course I was on the phone complaining, & they wouldn’t believe me. I’d get things like “we don’t do that”. “If you put in a claim, we don’t continue taking the payments”.
Normally when I have this much push back, I’d go to my bank, & put a stop payment on it. But each representative of American General life Insurance Company's I talked to, insisted I don’t do that. Because it would jeopardize the claim. But each one assured me, if that is what’s really happening, it will get resolved. So I foolishly believed them, & did as they requested, sent proof (a copy of the bank statements) showing they were still taking the monthly premium. Of course several weeks later, I’d call the company to verify they got it. They said they did, & it was sent to another department. Then I was told I’ll get a phone call from one of their upper management, & they should be able to fix this. Two more months went by, & so did two more payments. Three months later I did get a phone call from one of the officers. But I wasn’t home. I tried to call her back, but her number was unlisted. So I then called the main office, they couldn't help me, because they don’t have anyway of getting a hold of anyone in that department, but I was assured, she’ll call back. Another month went by, so did another payment. No phone call just a letter that didn’t make much since to me, except the part that said I need to keep paying it. Finally in January 2023 before they could take another payment, I went to my bank, paid the $35 & but a stop payment on it. They’ve taken $1463.04, & I’m still waiting for the proper person to call, who can get this resolved. Instead I keep getting letters wanting the monthly premiums I’ve missed at that time.
Now it doesn't end there. Again I’m reminding you, my father died last November of 2019. It is now April of 2023, & it’s still an open case to them. Months have gone by, & they still want the same documents that I’ve sent several times already. When I call the company, I’m told the same thing. They confirm they received the documents. I’m told It all looks good, but I’ll need to wait several weeks for them to do the proper research & processing. I should get a letter very soon, letting me know the details & confirm it’s done. Instead of getting that letter, I get a envelope filled with the same documents, that I sent before, that needs to be fill out, yet again, before they can proceed. Now the last two times I called, I did get a different explanation, They claim they didn’t get all the document. I’d ask what is missing. They let me know, they can’t share that information. Instead I need to wait for someone (I forget their title) to call me. I’m still waiting for that phone call too. And it’s interesting to me, how certain pages, that I stapled together, sent at the same time, in the same envelope, seem to disappear. And of course nothing can move forward until American General life Insurance Company gets all the documents. So I keep sending them. Weeks go by, only to find out, they still don’t have everything.
So I decided, maybe if I fax these documents, instead of mailing them, my fathers wish of leaving his family some money would be granted. I started this back in late 2022. Unfortunately for me, I'm told, it still takes at least 2 weeks before it gets to the right person. It took almost 2 months before I got their next letter. At first I thought it finally worked. But as I continued reading the first page, I discovered I was wrong. There were additional forms I needed to fill out. I had to send them proof that my dad’s funeral was paid for. & they wanted to know how much he was worth at the time of his death. Now I admit this really pissed me off. now I've lost my husband, & I don't know were anything is. My husband took care of that for me because I was grieving. Now I'm thinking why do they need this now. my father has been dead for over 2 years. but never the less I send them the documents proving his funeral was paid in full. but I refuse to give them my fathers personal information. In my mind, what does this have to do with paying this claim. So I put "don’t know" on those lines. I had to send these documents twice, as well, before they acknowledged they got it. Writing “don’t know” seemed to work, But shortly after that, I’m hearing the same things again. They still don’t have all the documents they must have, before they can proceed. I guess their fax machine must eat pages, especially the important ones. The most recent attempt, I decided to start over. I asked them to email everything they’ll need, because if they mail it, it takes at least 3 months before I get them. I got more instructions on how to fill them out, & what to send. I then fax 12 pages they said they needed, all at the same time. My fax machine said 12 pages were sent, & two weeks later I find out the main page, the one I had to Notarize is missing. And just like before, I need to send it again.
Now here’s something really interesting. While I was on the phone with them, the documents I sent back in early February, that they claim they never got, miraculously showed up. But because the date didn’t match the other documents I just sent, they can’t use it. So I’ll need to fax it again, which I have. This time, I’ve mailed it as well. So I’m back to waiting to find out if it’s going to work this time. But I’m not counting on it.
Now here's the latest update. while I’m dealing with them, & waiting for someone who has the authority to contact me from American General life Insurance Company, they decided to send my brother some very interesting letters. The first one arrived shortly after I put a stop payment on the premium, that they claimed they were not taking. Now the only way they could do that, was to take the personal information off the forms I’ve been sending, that they required, & claim they never got. Now, not only did they want the back premium payments from my brother, but it also reads as if my brother took out the policy, not our father. And of course my brother needed to send them more paper work, along with some money, or the policy will be canceled & so will the payout. This is May of 2023, I just got these letters from my brother. He hasn't’ got a clue who these people are or why they are sending him letters. And yet I’ve been dealing with American General life Insurance Company for the last 3 years, waiting for one of their officers to contact me so we can get this resolved. Instead of dealing with me, they decide to send my brother letters, who is clueless. I hope they haven't figured out a way to switch the insured name from my father, to my brother. I plan on calling them, but I know it’s pointless. I’m really starting to think, that maybe this is how they get out of paying. They wear out the beneficiary so they will give up. This may be a lost cause, but I’m going to do what it takes to honor my fathers wishes.
So please heed my warning, don’t put your love ones through this. I strongly recommend, you don’t do business with American General life Insurance Company. also known as the United States life insurance company in the city of New York because they only take your money. But your family through endless hoops, & your love ones will never see a dime.

Desired outcome: pay the claim & repay the unlawful payments $1463.04 . & if possible the $35 I had to pay to the bank to get them to stop taking the monthly payments from my dead fathers joint account we had together.
failure to provide copies of annuities
I requested copies of my two annuities (AE013105 and AE007066) from American General Life Insurance Company six times but never received them: Dates: 30 March 2022 phone call; 25 April call; 4 May call; 28 July call; 16 august letter; 28 Sept call. I tried the automated website but (1) only one of my two annuities was listed and (2) the form for requesting copies (AGL 100) was wrong by their own admission ('click here to get the new form" displayed only the old unsuitable form).
Desired outcome: Provide copies of the two annuities
Unable to contact via telephone
I have tried for 2 days to contact this company by telephone. Each time the number is answered, it puts me on hold for as
long as 25 mins. and no one answers? I went on line to try and contact them on line and they have so many sites for
advertisements, you would have to try 100 sites to get an answer from them. I have an old policy from my Mother and would like
to know if it is any good, but cannot sit on the telephone all day waiting for someone to answer their business telephone.
My next step is to make a complaint to the Insurance Commissioners office in Dover Delaware. They sell insurance in
Delaware and should be available to the customers in Delaware that have questions.
