Storm door installation
I agreed to what I thought was a flat fee installation of a storm door that I was going to have the service provider purchase. They said they had car trouble and that we would have to reschedule the initial appointment. Okay, not a great start, but that's understandable sometimes. A week later they text me saying they will be 15 minutes late to the rescheduled appointment. They ended up being 1.5 hours late. They stopped by and I gave them the cash, told them what I wanted and told them where to get it. They said they would provide the receipt and the change from the transaction since the amount of cash I gave them was more than the list price of the door. I just wanted to make sure they had enough money to make the purchase when taxes were added to the price. They came back about 45 minutes later and started working. It then took them 6 hours to install a storm door that the manufacturer claims can be installed in about 2 hours. They left without telling me they were done, so I never got to see the receipt or get my change (I gave them $250 for a $200 door). They texted me that they were done. I looked outside and they had already driven off. I then later found out that I was being charged extra by Angie based upon how many hours the service provider took to complete the project. That seemed extremely unfair since I have no control over how long the project takes and was not aware that I would be charged extra in such a scenario. If anything it seems like Angie should be punishing the service provider, but instead they have chosen to punish me. Doesn't this practice just encourage unethical service providers to take longer than necessary to make extra money? I feel embarrassed in a way that is similar to descriptions I've heard of the embarrassment that scam victims feel. Deceptive and unfair for sure. I don't see myself ever using this company again and would like to warn others of their unfair and deceptive practices. Home Advisor was marvelous before it was bought out by Angie.
Desired outcome: An apology and a complete refund.
The date of this project was 5/7/22.
House cleaning
I booked a move-out cleaning for my home 2 weeks in advance. I got several reminders and responded to all requests for more information. My contractor never showed and didn't respond to my calls or to Angi's. When I got the contractor's voicemail it was for an auto design company in a city 35 miles away. Such a waste of time, and now I have to unload my car and stay in my empty home overnight waiting for a different cleaning service to come tomorrow since no one can come today. Why would they book my house cleaning with an auto designer? And why didn't the professional ever contact me or Angi in any way? I will NEVER use Angi for anything ever again. They didn't even try to find a same-day replacement service. I didn't even know Angi was Angie's List. I used Home Advisor to compare quotes and the one that I chose was for Angi so I assumed Angi was a cleaning service.
Desired outcome: Just trying to prevent others from having the same awful experience. If you do book with Angi, get your contractor's info immediately and confirm with them directly.
Terrible
Scammed me. Pro refused to do the work I paid for while I wasn't there and tricked my landlord into paying her on the side and said she'd complete the work. She then left and didn't do the job. I had reached out to Angi's list to report this and they said I wasn't charged... yet I was because my landlord charged me for what he paid her. Angi's list then said she completed the work and said I was lying, so they paid her for the job she did not complete, on top of her receiving money on the side because she refused to do the job I paid for in advance with a "guarantee."
Then, the "Pro" somehow got my actual phone number and was texting me profanity and cursing me out. Over the course of a few days. She also already had my Google voice number from when I scheduled services and stopped using that because Angi could see what she says.
I had to block her from both my phone numbers to stop the harassment. Angi has done nothing to resolve this except pay the Pro more and not deactivate her account. Be cautious when using this out - big time scam where they find ways to get money and not actually do the job.
Desired outcome: This Pro should never work again and she should not have received payment when she didn't do the job and also convinced someone to pay her on the side saying she'd complete the job if she did.
Attempted charge of fee
I was told to give my cc number for a fee of $295 in order for a contractor to contact me..The fee was for the labor cost and would not be charged until job was complete..Requested to have 3 to 4 contractors bid but was declined
Calling 10 times for answers and 3 days lost
3 weeks ago on April 9th, 2022 I called Angi to schedule a carpet cleaning for April 16th. After trying to get a service person to respond, I had to reschedule for 3 different days of appointments, 10 calls to Angi, and 4 contacts with service people who didn't return my calls, I still don't have my carpets cleaned. I also had 4 different estiments given. I used Angi 2 other times with success but not this time.
Gillis refrigeration and air conditioning
I had Gillis Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Stuart , Florida, come out to do a routine maintenance check on my ac on April 12,2021. It was running fine.
When he was finished, he handed me a bill for $485. He said my system had a leak that he couldn’t find, and he put in 5 pounds of Freon.
I didn’t know much about acs, so that night I called my grandson who is an ac tech in another state . He asked the following questions:
“Was you unit blowing hot air?” My answer, no
“Was you unit running all day?” My answer, no.
“Was your unit making ant strange noises?” My answer, no
.
“Did you see any ice anywhere on your unit?” My answer, no.
“Did Mr. Gillis use a scale to weigh how much Freon he put in?” My answer, no.
A few weeks later I spoke to an ac tech who is a friend of a friend. He basically asked me the same questions as my grandson. His comment; “and you paid him? Don’t use that guy again.
I called Mr. Gillis and told him the story. His response “sue me.”
That was a year ago. A few days ago I had my system checked. No leak, no need for Freon.
Desired outcome: Refund for imaginary Freon 325.00
I had contacted Angi for the very first time to have a new construction renovated. Spoke to John Truesdale who said he was part wiener in. Lakeshore contractor in Fernadina Beach Fl. He told me he would have a quote to me by the next day. Never got one.
Decided I would fire home then he sent me a an estimate for two times the amount.
I sent him a message on Friday and he set up N appointment for today Monday after lunch. Once again he never showed. Never trust Northshore construction or Angie’s list. Hopefully I will be able to do my kitchen island, and the rest of the renovations myself. I can’t believe it.
Falsify invoices, damaged personal property, dishonest and illegal work practices
We hired Above all handyman services to finish up a bathroom remodel that had been started by another company. Ryan has done work on my property before after finding him on this site, unfortunately on February 20th of 2022 while Ryan was backing his trailer into my driveway he hit my vehicle, got out looked at the damage, got back into his truck and left without telling us and he hasn't made any attempts to repair the damages. Once notified about the claim filed through my insurance Company, Ryan started dishonestly stated that he gave us a discount on the bathroom remodel and that im seeking to get paid twice which is a lie. He started saying this after I filed a police report against him. Ryan and his dad Todd claimed they'd put a lien on my property and that he wouldn't pay for the repairs to my vehicle. Do not hire Ryan or Todd, Ryan brags about padding the invoice , over charging people who doesn't know any better. Ryan bragged about how his dad told him to overcharge us for finishing up the remodel, Todd told Ryan to purchase tools he didn't have and to charge us for the tools while Ryan keeps the tool's. They are dishonest and crooked.
Desired outcome: For Ryan to prove the dishonest allegations he's lobbying against us, I also want to warn the public about this company.
Angies list monthly fee
My husband and my business account with Angie was being automatically taken each month from my personal bank account in my name only . My husband left me and took the business with him . It was a big ordeal and months to get Angie's to agree to have my husband put the account in his name with the fee coming out of his bank account . They have continued to withdraw the 288.77 $ from my account since November of 2021 . I have no income and they have caused overdraft fees and a huge financial mess with no hope of resolving my problems .
Desired outcome: I want all of my money back from November of 2021 till the present time , April 2022
Tile floor
The tile floor contractor Kates Solutions company and boss man by name of Marcus you Angi provided us not keep his word for his company is bad. Did terrible workmanship does not keep word to come back to repair his work. Do not trust this company!
CW Bennett, sr.
Desired outcome: REPAIR GROUT PROMISED AND NO SHOW
Total Home Roofing - Roofers
They never finished roof (2/19/21) at 11041 Bayside Lane, Fort Myers Beach, FL 33931, so i paid $7000.00 of $8650.00 invoice until they would finish roof. instead of finishing roof they put a lien on my home. Keep calling but no results, Thanks Kevin Peak [protected]
Desired outcome: Finish my roof please
JDs Custom Concrete - Live Oak, FL
I hired JDs Custom Concrete on January 22, 2022 to pour concrete, pour curbing and lay stones. They required a non-refundable deposit of half down. I paid over $2000 and was supposed to have a starting date of February 10, 2022.
A few days before February 10, I received an email saying my starting date had been changed to February 11, and a few days after that received another saying I had been pushed back to February 18th. Then, I received another saying it was the 21st.
On February 22nd JD showed up with his crew and lay out some boards, drove some stakes in the ground and tied string to the stakes. They were here 30 minutes. I expected they were coming back the next day but they never showed up.
I contacted them and was told they had another job they had to go to and they would be back to my place in the next few days and they would notify me as to the date.
On March 4th JD showed up and began digging and ran into pipes. I told them I would contact them when the pipes were removed which I did on March 6th. I assured them everything was ready for digging, pouring, etc.
On March 14th I cancelled my contract as I had heard nothing from JD as to when he was going to be able to come back and complete the job.
I requested a refund of my deposit minus $500 for the digging they had done and their time. They have refused to refund any money saying the money was for materials (which were none) and time (maybe 2 hours).
Desired outcome: I wish my deposit (minus $500) returned for their inability to complete the job.
Choice home warranty
Choice Home Warranty claims to give homeowners the peace of mind from unexpected repairs or replacements of home equipment and appliances, but that only means if they see fit to pay the claims. My experience is they don't. They sent me an email the next day after a technician was sent to my home to repair an a/c that wasn't working properly, it read: It has been determined there is a restriction in the refrigerant line of the HVAC system. This contamination of the sealed system is the result of contaminants or foreign materials in the line and does not occur under normal wear and tear conditions. What exactly do they consider normal wear and tear. This unit is 7 years old and maintained monthly and serviced yearly. They didn't bother asking me or the technician about that though, they just made the decision. It sounded like a predetermined, pat answer. From other reviews online it looks as if this company does this on a regular basis. This is a buyer beware! Maybe the better choice would have been to just save money for a rainy day instead of putting my trust in a unreliable company such as this.
Desired outcome: I would like them to reconsider & pay for the replacement part. Or at the least, give me a detailed reason why this is not considered normal wear & tear when they even said it is a sealed system so how could it not be normal.
Contractors
They suck, do not call you back, are over priced an do not follow through. I lived in Texas for 2 years, great contractors, very customer focused and friendly, and hard working. These California assess think they can just gouge the hell out of you and walk away like they did you a favor. F them, go fix your own yard!
House cleaning
I was moving out of a home I was renting and scheduled a cleaning for the last day I had to be out of the home. This appointment was canceled last minute so had to reschedule for the next day which thankfully my landlord was ok with but then that appointment was cancelled and rescheduled yet again at the last minute. I did not have more time in the home to wait for the rescheduled date so had to have my landlord find someone to come clean the home which had to be taken out of my deposit. Very dissatisfied with this company and their lack of professionalism.
Shutters to be replaced

I was scheduled for service and as I patiently waited no one showed.
I was put through the same wait the next day 29th after I spoke with someone who promised to be on schedule at 0900 Tuesday.
No call...nothing! If I had taken time off from work, I would be livid.
NEVER AGAIN will I use - or attempt to use - Angies List.
Bathroom remodel
On the second week of February a remodel was started on my bathroom, it is now March 28th and I’m no closer to having my bathroom done. The contractor shows up anywhere between 10am and later and only stays 2 to 4 hours.I have taken a week off work from March 22nd to the 28th and I have only seen him for approximately 5 hrs the whole week. I have paid him a lot of money and have not heard from or seen him since the 25th I have messaged him and called him and no response at all I am very unhappy and now I have only plywood for a floor a window that only have plywood over the hole and on the outside where the window was is just plywood and not covered from the weather. I can see down the cracks to the ground under my house and getting bugs in my house.
Desired outcome: Work completed or my money back
what company ?
Angi
This contract management site sucks now. I used to be able to weed out and find a contractor on my own. Now I get inundated with calls from contractors who want to give me a quote without me knowing anything about them.
Should I say ok to over a dozen contractors? I don't think so. When in need of a big job contractor, please just give me a list of suitable contractors that I can need vet and determine 2 or 3 that I would like to get a quote from.
I've gotten many calls when I'm tied up and can't talk to them. I've asked them to send me information so I look them up and look at reviews. NO ONE has done that. They may have been the best choice but I'll never know because I don't know who they are.
I hope I'm no longer paying for this service!
Desired outcome: See above
Handyman to remove and install new over the range microwave
Had a handyman come out to my home to remove and install a new microwave over the range. I asked him if he felt he could do the job since I have custom cabinets with moldings at the bottom. He assured me he could. Well, first of all this is a two-man job. So, in other words, I had to help him remove the old unit. Upon looking for wall studs to attach the new mounting bracket, the service (PRO) vider begin drilling multiple holes in my wall attempting to find the wooden studs. Upon saying he found one, he kept on drilling and punctured the Gas line for my stove, immediately releasing the strong gas odor. I had to evacuate my wife and dogs from the house not knowing what may occur? I called the So. Cal. Gas company who came out and told me I needed to get a plumber to fix the gas leak. Of course, a plumber is not going to repair the hole he'd have to make to get to the leak in the Gas line created by Angi's service provider. So, I hired a Licensed Contractor to do the repairs. $1500.00 later I filed a claim with Angi's and their response was for me to first contact my home owners insurance to see how much they would pay and how much my deductible would be. Are you FRICKIN kidding me. Your service provider caused this issue, not me!
Desired outcome: I want to be reimbursed for the inconvenience caused by your service provider. We had no gas for 2 1/2 days for cooking or to shower with..
Re: home renovation
Went to Angi's List to find a "handyman" or 'contractor' for very minor home renovation. The closet was to be deepened (pulled out into the room, roughly a foot) The handyman that was hired was a menace. WHO VETS THESE PEOPLE? Discount Handyman in Phoenix is terrible. Disrespectful, never on time and dishonest) I will submit reason for each. Disrespectful, Jessie was never on time, always an excuse for why, he couldn't be on time. Wreck, no one to watch the kids, muffler issue. He would send a text message, complaining about issues, and implied several times, that I was the problem. Dishonest. He set a bid of $2500, claiming that things would be finished within the week. 2 additional weeks and $2000 more later, it is still not done. Things are not completed. Who do we contact? Who do we sue, him, or Angi's? Both? Number of photos available. Please request, as they will end up a huge file
Desired outcome: Refund, apology, and this person's license revoked
Do not believe Angi's Happiness guarantee! I had a leak in my roof and looked to Angi's list for someone to hire to fix it. Well they no longer give me ideas f who to call. They have me describe the problem and decide how long it will take someone to do the job. I estimated 3 hours but I have no idea what it will take. So the first guy they send did not show up. Called to complain. So they set me up with another person on another date. Well I saw that it was going to snow that day so I called to cancel. First they go upset because it wasn't in the 24 hour window. So I said fine, send him out and he will just have to work on the snow covered roof. Well they decided I could reschedule without penalty. So finally the guy comes out and called me to let me know he completed the job in 30 minutes!. Wrote to Angi's list to get a refund of some of that money since I paid for 3 hours and it only took 30 minutes. Oh no. Angi's gave me 1 hours refund because they have a 2 hour minimum. Whatever. A few weeks has gone by and we have a heavy rain. The roof still leaks! Called to complain. They can only give me a 50% refund because they have already paid the workman to come out and do the job. But it still leaks! Never use Angi's list
Home remodeling
Hired Diagonal Interiors, LLC owner Cheny Gyeni. His company website offers no address. I hired him based on his Angie's List reviews and recommendation: This company and owner are professional frauds - He was hired to remodel my kitchen and bathroom - I paid him the initial deposit and then was pressured to pay more so that the project would be done with-in a weeks time - I prepaid for new flooring and paint throughout my home, new granite tops, new door and exterior posts. Once he received the money he started pressuring me to pay the subcontractors and he would reimburse me for the material costs. I was forced to pay the granite subcontractor as my house was torn up and not liveable. The subcontractor refused to install the granite because Cheny would not pay them! Cheny then started extorting me to pay more and when I refused he refused to complete the project and make any repairs to all the damage to my home. He has refused to return my key. I have had 2 contractors estimate repairs to complete my project and have been told the work is substandard, not to code and not useable the way he left it.
Desired outcome: 100% REFUND, Remove him from your website!!!
