I booked a handyman thru Angi to install 13 sheets of plywood to enclose the carport ceiling for October 26th, 2024. That day arrived, but the handyman did not show. Unable to contact him thru Angi app, I hired someone else on the 29th.
Later, on the 29th, I find that Angi had charge my debit card $299.00 and showed that their handyman showed up on the 26th, performed 3 hours of work and Angi showed the job completed.
After numerous attempts to get through to their service reps, I put a debit dispute with my bank. The bank investigated and presented a 10 page report from Angi stating how great they were. They (Angi) also stated that their handyman showed up, performed three hours of work and the job was completed.
Still after going thru their customer support and their apologies and understanding, the end result was that, I should have contacted them within 72 hours of the handyman not showing.
Now they say that they would be glad to rebook, still missing the fact that I had hired someone else to complete the job, but they would not refund any payment.
Theft by deception and fraud.
Claimed loss: $299.00
Desired outcome: A refund of $299.00 for the charge to my debit card. $450.00 for hiring another handyman to complete the job you said you completed

Angi ripped you off by billing you for a "no show" and saying work was done. Hang onto your dispute through the bank — provide your evidence with timestamps and receipts of the actual worker who did the work. If your bank does not reverse charge, go small claims court. Do not allow Angi’s fake policies give allowance to commit fraud.
