I am absolutely thrilled with how my deck turned out. It looks absolutely stunning and I feel confident using it again. Overall, I was quite pleased with the job that was done. However, I must mention that there was a slight hiccup in communication with the construction crew, which prevented me from giving a full 5-star rating. Additionally, I was a bit disappointed to find various nails, screws, and metal caps scattered all over my yard after the construction crew had left.
I initially was going to give this company 4 stars bc of some issues we had with our stairs, rotting wood replacement and debris leftover. Once I spoke to Eddie he did what he could and the crew came back to address the issues. So now I can happily say I'm Satisfied with the work. Can't wait to enjoy the deck more once it warms up. The crew did a great job and even came out in snow and very cold weather to get the job the done. I got several quotes for a deck repair /replacement and deck helmet was more knowledgeable and less cost than the others. I would recommend them to anyone but I would say make sure you double check everything including your contract (in any project you do). Despite this, I have a great deck that should last a long time! They removed all the old wood and even moved my heavy planters to its new location ("above and beyond"). A big plus was 50 percent installation discount (off season). I replaced existing moldy and badly damaged decking with composite refacing. The deck crew worked from morning to late in the night to get the job done. There were some issues that I discovered the next day, and management wasted no time in resolving all of it. The crew came back out and fixed problems as requested. No fuss. The outcome of the deck refacing was amazing! I could not believe that old rotten deck looks like a million bucks now! Another great thing is I got 2 other estimates and Deck Helmet was far more reasonable (They actually warned me that no one would beat them â€" they were right. LOL ) I've already recommended them to friends for deck work.

To start with the staff who gave us the estimate were very knowledgeable and didn't try to oversell or pressure, which was a pleasant surprise. From power washing to demolition through to completion they were a pleasure to work with. The crew even took the deck furniture off and after the job was completed…put the furniture back on the deck; now that is service above and beyond our expectations! They left the work area and yard clean and neat before leaving. Taking pride in their work shows in the finished project. We couldn't be more pleased. (We found one small issue on a corner after the workers had left, but when brought to Eddies attention, it was fixed straight away the next day. GREAT customer service!)

However, I was a bit disappointed with the salesman's lack of explanation and the conflicting information I found on their website. Additionally, their 800 number could use some improvement. During the power washing process, which was supposed to be low pressure according to what I was told, a large window screen got damaged. It's important to note that Deck Helmet is not responsible for this damage, and I was aware of that beforehand.
One issue that bothered me was that the construction crew showed up without any prior warning or planning. Despite this, I must say that the builders did an excellent job on the deck itself. However, I was quite upset to discover that some of their trash had been thrown into the woods behind my house once the job was completed. Another source of stress was giving a check to the crew on the day of completion, as I couldn't obtain a paid receipt at that time. I did eventually receive the paid receipt, but only after I had to call and request it.
Overall, I found the whole process to be uncomfortable due to the lack of information provided to me. While I do love the deck they built, I am still undecided about whether or not I can confidently recommend Deck Helmet to other potential deck buyers.

I had an appointment today to discuss replacing my wood deck with wood composite. We had already received a satellite quote and agreed for them to come out and help us choose the colors. However, when Justin arrived, he seemed confused about who he was speaking to and what needed to be done. I reminded him about the email we received after a lengthy phone call following the satellite estimate. This email was sent to us about a week ago. Justin mentioned that he was new and said he would call me back. Later, I received a call from Dave, who I assume is Justin's boss (although I'm not sure about his position in the company). Unfortunately, Dave was very disrespectful when I tried to explain what had happened during my previous phone call with Justin. I was mainly trying to convey that Justin seemed confused about our specific requests. Dave quickly interrupted me and the call ended abruptly, or so I thought. I decided to call him back to clarify the situation, only to find out that there had been a miscalculation by the satellite interpreter and the company had provided me with an incorrect estimate. Dave's attitude became even more unpleasant when I expressed my confusion about how a miscalculation could result in my deck size being quoted as 1000 sq feet instead of the actual 600 sq feet. This discrepancy obviously led to a significant difference in the quoted price. I suggested that Dave come out and physically measure the deck to avoid any further misunderstandings. However, he responded rudely, stating that he didn't want to waste his time or mine. I was taken aback by his response. I have the funds available and I also need to have my 15-year-old deck renovated, but I simply cannot tolerate such disrespectful behavior and tone over the phone. I took the initiative to reach out to the manager, Jason, via text message on December 15. He assured me that he would send it the following day. However, after not receiving any communication, I decided to contact Jason again on March 11, 2029. Unfortunately, he did not respond to my message.
Feeling increasingly frustrated, I decided to take matters into my own hands and called the office on April 8, at 7:10 pm. I spoke to Agatha, who promised that someone would get back to me. Regrettably, I have yet to receive any response or resolution to this matter.

I am extremely disappointed with the service I have received from this company. Not only did I pay $5,000 for them to stain my deck, but now they want to charge me an additional $4,000 to fix the chipping that has occurred after only 2 years. This is completely unacceptable.

When we reached out to them for a refund, they insisted that the signed contract prevented them from returning the money. Their customer service was abysmal, as they never returned our phone calls.
As a family relying on social security pension and with my wife working part-time, we have a child to raise. It is incredibly unfair that a large company like Deck Helmet refuses to refund our money or even respond to our phone calls.

On 7/21, Mr. Jason A and one of his associates visited me, and we entered into a contract for the removal of my existing deck and the construction of a new one. The estimated completion date for the project was 8/22. However, that date passed without any communication or explanation for the delay. I have made more than 10 calls to Deck Helmet, but every time I'm told that a member of the management team will call me back with an update. Unfortunately, I have never received such a call. Frustrated, I reached out to Deck Helmet again on 9/24. During the call, a representative informed me that he needed to discuss the situation with a manager. When he returned to the call, he suggested that my best option at this point would be to request a refund, citing the reason that the project is taking too long. Despite requesting the refund, I still haven't been able to speak to anyone for an update. I'm really in need of assistance here. I paid a deposit of $1830.00 for a $5000.00 project, and I would like to get my deposit back.

The person I spoke to on the main phone number told me to submit a warranty claim on their website, which I did. I included pictures of the issues as requested. The warranty is supposed to be valid for 10 years. According to the website, I should have been contacted within 10 days. However, by June 2nd, I still hadn't heard anything, so I called again to check on the status. They informed me that the claim had been partially approved, but they needed to send someone out to inspect the deck. I was transferred to a person named Omar, who said he was busy and would call me back. Unfortunately, he never did, and when I tried calling him, his voicemail was full. I made several more attempts to reach him, but without success. Frustrated, I called the main number again, and this time I was told that I wouldn't receive a call unless I emailed [protected]@deckhelmet.com. I sent multiple emails to that address, but still received no response. On June 6th, June 10th, and June 12th, I called the main number again, and each time I was told that my issue was being escalated, even after speaking with two supervisors. They couldn't explain why I had been asked to send an email in the first place. It has now been over four weeks, and I haven't received any kind of response from Deck Helmet. I'm starting to wonder if anyone will ever contact me. I have no other way of reaching someone who can help me with this problem. The customer service from Deck Helmet has been absolutely terrible.

I have several complaints about Deck Helmet. It took them three summers and countless emails to finally finish our deck. Their customer service has been absolutely terrible, which has been the most frustrating part of this whole experience. We initially hired Deck Helmet in December , but the work they did in July was extremely poor. We submitted a punchlist of issues that needed to be fixed, and it was approved. However, due to weather conditions, no work was done in 2018. This meant that our deck remained unusable from the summer of 2017 until August . We couldn't even put out our deck furniture in case they came to do the work. After numerous emails, they finally completed the work on August 8. In an email we received from Deck Helmet on that day, they said, "Great news! Your deck is now complete! Please inspect the deck and fill out the Job Completion Form." The deck did look better, with a much thicker coating than what was applied in July .
However, our satisfaction was short-lived. On April 18, we discovered a small area of the deck coating that was chipping. We submitted a complaint through their website, and on May 25, Deck Helmet responded by saying that our two-year labor warranty had expired, but the ten-year warranty on materials was still valid. They gave us two options: Option 1 was to fix it ourselves, with them providing a can of coating and a brush, and Option 2 was for them to fix it for us at the cost of $4950. We were confused because the work had been completed less than a year ago, so how could the labor warranty have expired? We sent them an email on May 26 questioning this, and on June 3, Deck Helmet responded by telling us to look at the warranty on the front of our contract. We explained that we never received a copy of the warranty and sent them pictures of what we did receive. We followed up with emails on June 14, June 21, and July 20, asking for a response, but we haven't heard anything back from them yet.
Finally, on July 20, Deck Helmet responded by lowering the labor cost to $1950. However, on July 30, we emailed them again, asking for an explanation as to how they could claim that the deck was completed in July and how they could determine whether the chipping was due to defective workmanship or a defective product, as stated in paragraph 11 of the contract, without anyone inspecting it. Unfortunately, we didn't receive a response until August 5, when Deck Helmet said that the final payment was received in August , so the labor warranty had expired. They gave us the same two options, with the labor cost going back up to $4950.

My husband and I have unfortunately experienced unfair business practices with Deck Helmet. We reached out to them regarding the warranty for our deck, as it needed painting and repairs. After inspecting our deck, Deck Helmet determined that 20 boards needed to be replaced in order to repair it. They provided us with an estimate for the painting and repairs, stating that the final labor charge would be $2,950.00, which included the cost of 20 boards at $50 each. However, there was also a line in the estimate that said "Total Labor with Boards: $4,950.00," and Deck Helmet was unable to explain this discrepancy.
According to the agreement, we were instructed to proceed with the option by making a check out to Deck Helmet for $950.00 and including a copy of the estimate, which we did. Unfortunately, despite making numerous calls, we did not receive a response from Deck Helmet. Eventually, we were able to speak to Richard Moeum, a manager at Deck Helmet, who informed us that in order to move forward with our project, the full amount was required. We questioned how they could unilaterally change the terms of the estimate, and Mr. Moeum stated that it was Deck Helmet's policy. We believe that this action by Deck Helmet constitutes an unfair business practice.
Despite our concerns about safety issues on the deck, we decided to send Deck Helmet a check for the remaining balance of $4000.00. When the Deck Helmet team arrived to repair and paint the deck, they conducted another inspection to determine the number of boards that needed to be replaced. Surprisingly, they concluded that only 12 boards, not 20, needed to be replaced. The workers were unable to provide an explanation as to why we were initially told that 20 boards needed to be replaced.
Overall, the workers did a fairly good job with the repairs and painting. However, I requested to inspect the deck after they had finished, but they waited until they had packed up their equipment to inform me that they were done. Upon inspection, I noticed that a small portion of the deck had not been painted. When I pointed this out to the workers, instead of painting that portion, they informed me that they would leave enough paint for us to have someone else do it. Additionally, they took the 8 boards that were not needed to replace our deck with them when they left.
