Complaint against: MLD Remodels, LLC

Dear sir/Madam:
In July 2024 I contacted MLD Remodels LLC to remove and replace my attic insulation due to age and some rodent damage. Jason of MLD inspected my attic before giving me the bid. They required a 50% down-payment ($1,875)which I foolishly gave them. They came for 3 hours one day and removed less than 15% of the insulation. The next day they arrived with hazmat paper suits and after ½ hour announced all the ceiling sheetrock would have to be removed, that the attic was a biohazzard and that this would cost at least another $10,000 (not to mention I would have to vacate my house while this work was done). I took the time to contact a sheetrock company and was told the sheetrock was fine – it would only need replacing if moisture were bleeding thru and that was not the case. I also contacted a home inspector who verified there was no need to replace the sheetrock. I did have the duct work replaced and that crew which spent 2 days in the attic without reporting any problems.
Since it was obvious that MLD was not going to complete their part of the contract, I requested a refund, offering to leave $250 of the $1,850 on the table. They wrote back offering me $375 citing expenses for hazmat materials etc. These materials were never authorized by me and were never used on my property. They tried to up sell me for work I did not need and refused to return my deposit.
Sincerely,
Anne Handley

The MLD Remodels LLC business style is quite predatory and unprofessional. Contact these contractors by sending a letter requesting your deposit back, due to them not fulfilling a contract in the first place. Should they refuse to comply, pursue the matter legally by taking the case to small claims court for breach of contract and deceitful practices. Attach all the necessary evidence, such as the inspection which tells the opposite of what they say about your attic.
Do not allow them to retain your money for extra work or for telling lies – be tough and make these people responsible for their actions.
