Appalachian Power Company Customer service/automated system and paperwork.

My bill was due on October 20th for 135. Then said had to pay by Oct 30th 265. When I called about it the fake person told me 177 if I paid today. So I paid 200 then called then they said I still owed another 105. Which is total BS. Only one month of using it. I never got my first bill. They are outrageous anyways. Then I told them I had a death in the family. They had no compassion an was rude so I asked for a boss. She then help more than him but still robbed me. We definitely need more than one electric company. This makes them have a monopoly on the electric so you have no choice. I will soon be installing solar since I am a electrician. I sure this has happened to others an they raised there rates. They make power from dams its damn near free. Just sicking karma will get them. Had to pay 285 an says 263. The lady said 177. Totally unprofessional. They all need fired. I could see if it was over 200 dollars. It was 135 for three months

Desired outcome: They treat people like humans an show compassion. Also not to rob the people that pay there Bill's an not have the automated lady lie to customers. I would also like my money back that was stolen from me.

Good morning,

In Lumpkins Mobile Home Park, Between lots #728-#731, there has been an an old dock brought in and connected to an existing dock. This has doubled the size of the dock and is impeding on docks and land of other residents in this area. Not only bringing in an old dock, but the snakes that came with it! There are countless children and families in this area, and don't want this to be an issue, especially the snakes.

Could you pleas look into this?

Thank you VERY much!

Desired outcome: Remove the dock.

I am going to take to the next level and contact the CEO sense they think that people from Southwest Virginia aren't worth it and work their butt off to try to make ends meet

Appalachian Power Company Another Rate Increase by APCO

APCO just had a rate increase (of OVER $100.00 per month!) and has requested another one! Someone NEEDS to STOP them, NOW! We're on the "budget plan" and it's almost $300.00 per month, now! This is nothing but GREED and ripping their customers off, PERIOD. Their "bills" are terrible and hard to understand, and they cheat and steal from us EVERY MONTH. This is RIDICULOUS and someone needs to STOP THEM NOW! The consumer has NO ONE to contact about this issue! We're retired and on a fixed income and NO ONE CARES one little bit and we have NO HELP.

Desired outcome: DO NOT LET THEM RAISE THEIR RATES AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is beyond ridiculous!!!!!!!!

Appalachian Power Company My residential services

First of all I live in virginia and from my understsanding everybody's power bill has gone up and I don't understand at all about mine. First of all I have had medical issues that I hae not been home since December 3, I did and have paid my bill every month as usual it was 30 days late. Not 2-3 months behind I get a termination letter every month with my electric bill that I also do not understand. Now I myself paid 100$ and my insurance company paid 200$ even though I do not feel that The 200$ was even owed. My bill was 93$ in December, It was 97$ last month and next month my bill will only or have been only 41$. This is why and what I do not understand. Appalachian power turned off my power anyway even though it was paid. They tried to say first it was because they had not recieved the payment. Then it was they recieved the 100 I sent but it may take 10 days to get payment from my insurance company. My bill was a month late it was still turned off now I cant return to my home untl I pay a reconnect fee and next months bill. Why did my bill go up 200$ in the first place and 2nd who do I contact to have my services restored

Desired outcome: I want my bill explained to me as why it was indreased 200$ when I havent been home and why it was disconnected atftrer only a month late

Appalachian Power Company Service work order

Not sure the exact day but, today is Sunday January 29, 2023. I hired an electrician about 2 weeks to replace my breaker box and put in a new meter box on the side of my house that took 1 day to complete. The electrician said to leave my gate unlocked because Appalachian power would be out to move the meter from the old box to the new box within 24 hours and do not to touch the wires because they’re hot and if one of my dogs bites the wires it will cause them to explode! I’ve talked to the lady who does work order scheduling 2 times within 2 weeks about getting someone out here because I have two dogs, a cat that goes in and out, a special needs daughter and young neighbor kids that run all around outside my house and the lady that I spoke to both times from Appalachian power says it’s not a priority because we have power at the moment and she won’t be able to get anyone out until the end of February at the earliest.

Desired outcome: I would like to a response asap and this problem resolved

Appalachian Power Company Electric service bill

My electric bill has always been less than $200. New digital meters were recently installed in our area and, subsequently, my bill has tripled. I know changes went into effect on January 1, 2023, but this is ridiculous. I've spoken with other residents in my area who all have this complaint.

Desired outcome: Please respond ASAP. I'd like some resolution before contacting any other entity with a complaint.

We noticed a similar problem. Our bill last year for more kw than we use now was just under $300. Our bill this month will be almost $600. I only make $17 an hour with 3 kids, and we don't have central heat or anything extra. I feel like some regulatory body should be looking into this.

Appalachian Power Company Billing

We have a lake vacation home. Over the past 12 months we averaged 1,394 kWh/month. In Jan we were billed for 4,644 kWh going from an average of $230 to $726. An electrician failed to find any causes. I called AEP and the agent was pretty nice. She gave me the phone number for the energy commission to file a complaint and connected me with the “High consumption Gp” specialist. We shall see.

Energy commission - [protected]

Desired outcome: An explanation for the cost an a prorated bill.

Appalachian Power Company Current bill.

Our electric bill was double the usual bill. The excuse of a few days of cold temperatures being the reason is a poor excuse. Our thermostat is auto set. It is a new home with all of the latest energy codes met. The notice for customers released in Sept/Oct said you might see and increase of 20.00. This was untrue and misleading. I find it hard to believe with all of the customer complaints I have seen that my personal usage explains this extreme rise in cost. Bills doubling and some customers tripled. This needs to be addressed immediately.

Desired outcome: True explanation of this bill. All customers need their bills addressed and need to be compensated. I believe my usage info would mean I left my windows opened while running my heater. The excuse given is poor at best.

Appalachian Power Company Electricity

AEP charges what they want when they want! I recently my bills paperless and pay as soon as I get my statement by email which is two weeks sooner so I am a pay on time, ahead of time, every time customer and I received my December electricity bill and was floored when I opened it! Now mind you, when you do the same exact routine 6 days out of 7, not one thing has changed, include laundry washing and drying and not the first Christmas light was put up, nope not even a tree! My bill went from $169.11 in October 2022 to $608.89 in December 2022! When I called the first time I was told it’s fuel costs and that’s just what I owe, second time I was told it was the transmission usage and it looked like my bill was going to be even higher in January 2023, also at this time I had no other choice but to sign up on their 12 month average plan just to be able to pay $271.49, no way I could pay the $609.08 in full so I really had no other options! I then received an email containing a survey and I rated every question with a “0”! If I had another choice I’d definitely go somewhere else! I then received a phone call from a woman somewhere in West Virginia and said it must be my heat pump and the cold snap we had, I told her this cold snap last eat two days total and little did she know that I also heat with propane and have a set of logs and a wall unit for emergencies such as lost power but hay that have been set and used to keep the heat pump from running. Also my thermostat sets on the same temperature 24/7, except for those nice spring/summer/fall days and then it’s completely cut off with the windows open! She said all she could suggest was to monitor same said heat pump on Warner and colder days, well there is no major increase/decrease so no it’s not my heat pump! I was told I was the only one with this issue but I did my research and this up charge that no one can explain to the consumers is county wide here. I have family and friends who’s bill went up by anywhere from $100.00 to $300.00, but mine is still yet the highest increase of over $400.00 in just two months with absolutely no change whatsoever! They are the only electricity source in our area so they know they can charge whatever and we have to pay it because who can honestly be without electricity? AEP is ripping people off big time!

Desired outcome: Fair charges for electricity and stop ripping folks off!!

Appalachian Power Company Appalachian power

Ongoing issues with Appalachian Power bills being exorbitantly high, no clear answer as to why from Appalachian Power. I contacted the company, not only did they provide no clear answer for the increased costs, but they also essentially told me to deal with it. I 100% expect to pay increased energy costs in the winter, but this is excessive, and the fees are outrageous.

5 days into my current electric cycle, Dec. 28, 2022, to Dec. 31, 2022, and my meter is already reading 2055 kWh. I was out of town during this time period. The heat was left on at 70 degrees, but no other utilities were being used. How is it possible, 5 days into the current cycle and I'm already at 2055 kWh?

The month of Oct. 2022 usage was 645 kWh, the month of Nov. 2022 usage was 1310 kWh, and the month of Dec., through the 27th, usage was 2767 kWh.

Sometime in Nov. there was a man from Appalachian Power Company messing with the meters, since then the power bill has skyrocketed. The current bill includes a fee for generation service of $140.71 reasonable. Additional fees include a fuel factor fee of $119.51, a transmission service fee of $95.27, and a distribution service fee of $66.17. These fees are unreasonable. What are these additional $300 in fees for? Is an employee from Appalachian turning a crank to provide energy services?

These fees and excessive bills are outrageous. Appalachian runs a monopoly in Virginia, even if I wanted to use a different provider for energy service, there is not another option. Please help, regular consumers cannot afford to pay $400 plus a month for electric services.

Desired outcome: I would like a billing adjustment, I would also like someone from Appalachian to come check my meter for accuracy.

You need to contact an electrician to have a manual clamp on meter put on the feed line, then turn on ONE appliance at a time, to see what the readings were... Their WAS a 35.43% INCREASE in the cost of Electricity in Dec of 2022. But it CAN be compensated for but switching billing plans. Call the 1-800 number on your bill, ask for the "SmartMeter Day/Night plan, tariff #019". That billing plan is the CHEAPEST smart meter plan, this plan is about 30% cheaper than your standard plan. It has different rates for day and night usage. Day usage is 10% LESS than the standard plan, and the night usage is 75% less than the standard plan. This is NOT well known, and you may have to call AEP a few times and get a supervisor to get this rate... Only 2% of AEP customers know about this... but it is available to ANYONE that has a smart meter.

Appalachian Power Company your excessive and overpriced December 2022

My name is Frank, I live in Bedford, Virginia.

My wife and I did NOT raise or heating temperature, and we applied extra clothing instead of increasing the temperature.

last November 2022 our bill was $188.37

our current bill for December 2022 is $306.15

My wife and I have Cancer, wife has Ovarian cancer, I have Prostate cancer.

We both have NO employment income.

My wife has a menial disability income, I have a menial social security income and my disability claim is still pending.

We both have weekly doctor / medical visits that cut into our available money.

Your price increase cuts into our necessity money and is causing excessive stress.

Please consider providing us with a monitory option to assist us with our electric monthly bill.

Desired outcome: My wife and I would greatly benefit from a reduced monthly electric bill I would appreciate a response

Appalachian Power Company A transformer had blown and completely fried our mini split ac unit.

On November 30 around 10 am one of the transformers blew near our location. It had completely messed up and fried our mini split ac unit. Even after the transformer was fixed near our location our mini split was done for and since then has not run once. With that being said I had to order a completely new setup and have a repair man come out to check what our problem was and for them to come back to install it when the parts arrives. The part itself was $170 if a receipt is needed then I can send a copy at any time.

Desired outcome: I was hoping for a refund for my problem.
