Check in time to see a patient.
I arrived at the children's building on Saturday at 925am to see my 87 year old mother to find out that the visiting hours are not until 10am. However I was never told what they were when I left last night at 715pm. This is family and your 10am check in time is not fair to the patient and family. I am her son sitting in the waiting room until 10am because the nurse who is overseeing her said I could not come up to her room. I traveled 50 miles to get here this morning.. These rules are unfair and need to be changed.. (Room 313)

Billing
On march 9th, 2022 I went to Banner Desert to have a nuclear study done. When I went in to pre-register and go over my insurance my co-pay was 8225.00 for the 1.5 hour imaging. I told the person doing the processing of my work that someone should have of called me about this amount of money for a nuclear scan. No nuclear scan should cost 40,000.00 then 19,000.00 for my insurance estimate and my out of pocket cost of 8225.00. Someone put the wrong CPT code in for this procedure. This forced my to apply for a Banner Credit Card through Curae Care. When I got home and research this issue the allowable for the CPT codes was approx. 2100.00 per my Humana in network with 1800.00. On Friday I called the billing department and they said the only charged 2300.00. They transferred me to another department who said they would removed the charges from the Curae Credit that morning. About two weeks later I got a card from Banner Health from the credit people. So, I called them to see what was charged to the card. They said that Banner took the 8225.00 off the card and then 20 minutes later put it back on. Now if the billing department said I only was charged approx. 2300.00 why was the 8225.00 put back on the card. I should have never been put through this to begin with. Banner feels they are right and never wrong with their billing department. I disputed the charges with the credit people but they said I still have to pay the monthly payment with them. On March 20th my insurance company had processed the claim and my amount due is approx. 1350.00.
I called Banner again to get this straight. They did agree to take the difference between the amount charged and the 8225.00 off. Now I have to wait and have them adjust the account when they get the insurance check if the can do that without a big screw up. I never got any type of apology from them. Just pay the bill. The main take away is that Banner needs to have people double check information and this would not have happened. It caused me to apply for a card I don't need and I could have paid the reasonable charge for the test. In the future I will AVOID Banner at all cost and choose another hospital network.
Scheduling
The date, 3/25/22. My husband is suppose to have major colon surgery 3/29/22, but he can't have it because he can't get a physical April 18th, really, is this the best Banner can do? The doctor’s office staff didn’t sent the the doctor’s orders to the primary doctors office, because the fax machine was broken that day and then forgot to send it after the machine was fixed. They didn’t catch the mistake until we called the primary doctors office and ask why we haven’t heard from them. They said they hadn’t received any orders to setup the physical for Ted and had no appointments available until April 18th.
Desired outcome: get him a earlier appointment
Billing payment
Banner Health Patients, Guest, Staff
As if health isn't the primary issue, don't take Medical Assistants, or Billing Techs knowledge at face value.
My Doctor authorize multiple visits, yet he or his staff never raise a concern about Employer coverage insufficient to pay, nor inability to pay. My idea was to pay as I visit so when the accumalative bill is sent my insurance coverage will assist the completion of payment.
However, staff scam me on portal access. I never received the formal payment arrangement. Mentioned it to Doctor he said, No Concerns.
During the Service Period, the account became eligible for some internal refund to cover account remaing balance. Shortly, after the notice I received a $88.73 Bill remaining. No proper access by phone or online to pay with (Debit).
I was imposed as staff protecting their interest in the Billing Department. Today, 2/15/2022 received a forcefull collection call from Banner Health, no formal information but balance. I called billing waited 27 minutes no answer at Billing Department.
I am seeking settling this balance but please help Me formally.
Joseph
Desired outcome: Formal Letter: Fiscal Responsibility
I visited a Banner emergency room in October 2022. In July 2023 I received an email refunding me the $90 copay but also showing I owed $90. Makes no sense whatsoever. I called the 888 Billing number several times and no one ever answered. I spent a total of about 45 minutes in 3 attempts to talk to a person. I had to physically go to a Banner facility and beg a receptionist to help me make sense of the situation. Two different receptionists said that they often hear patient complaints about the Billing Dept. They were able to give me more information than I had access to, but were not able to resolve the situation.
This is a ridiculous and unacceptable situation that needs to be fixed.
Obtaining patient information
My name is Darry Meade and the brother of Jacqueline Goldson a patient in your facility room 405 admitted 2/6. My niece (Nancy Meade) Jackie’s daughter and I have been leaving messages at the nursing station trying to get a Dr. or Nurse to contact us to provide update on her condition/prognosis. We are her next of kin. William Johnson who has been accompanying her is of no relation to her. AZ does not recognize common law marriage nor does PA they state they met in. He has a drug and alcohol problem and does not have her best interest in heart. Jackie is not lucid enough to give her consent to allow DR. /Nurse to allow us to receive information. Additionally his controlling of her (keeping possession of her phone and only allowing her to speak on speaker) leads me to believe unless alone she would only respond as he wishes her to. Further complicating this issue both my niece and I reside in PA and VA respectively and are currently unable to travel to AZ at this time. Can you point me in the right direction in order that I may be able to resolve this issue? How do you get around obtaining information getting a person designated when a patient is not able to do so and the person claiming to be responsible has no legal relation to the patient where he should be allowed to make such decisions.

Desired outcome: My niece Nancy Meade be designated person responsible and e provided status of her care prognosis.
Banner Clinics, Hospitals, Billing
Boy, where do I start!? For those reading this paragraph from an internet browser results feed, I'll say GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, unless you like inconvenience, incompetence and high stress from horrible service! Banner's phone system results in delays and extreme stress waiting often 30-90min on hold to discuss a billing issue; this will make you want to scream! Over past 3+yrs, they have intentionally removed all ability to easily speak to a human (in clinic, at hospital, in billing, etc) and therefore put the stress and brutal auto attendant experience on us and they simply don't give a crap. If only enough unhappy patients could come together and form a class action lawsuit for their horrible business practices I'd gladly contribute a $1000 to a law firm to be a part.
Speaking of billing, I just ended a phone call that lasted 45min; 20min on hold, when their system announced at the beginning that my estimated wait time is only 6min. They are notorious for under estimating wait times by multitudes. In past 2yrs I've wasted a minimum 4-6hrs waiting on hold to discuss billing problems and changing payment methods. The payments you make in clinics, or in hospitals do not reflect in their online "simplepay" system and it takes them 30days for your payment made on location to post to your total balance, yet they will prioritize increasing your balance almost immediately upon getting services, showing that you owe money. So then, you get stressed out and have to look at the insurance EOB to understand why Banner is charging you for something you paid for upfront; then you waste a bunch of time for one of their often rude, incompetent billing personnel to simply say, "your payment from 30days ago just posted to your account, so you can ignore these charges".
Let me say that I have reluctantly been a Banner patient for 4-5yrs and only because they accept my insurance and have a PCP clinic literally 2miles from my house.
Regarding my 4-5yrs experience in clinic, or in hospital, I will tell you I've seen 15 different MDs/DOs/RNPs (including specialists and PCP), yet only two (2) I will say are truly competent and as knowledgeable as most private practice doctors. The providers that work for Banner are all corporate pansies that work maybe 36-50hrs/wk with ZERO worries for mistreating a patient and have corporate immunity from their mistakes. Additionally, they can't retain talent and seen to go through MDs frequently (i.e., your past specialist no longer works there). Anyway I could go on and on regarding their doctor's incompetence, but I'm sure you're tired reading this rant.
Bottom line is, I'm 100% done with Banner. I just deleted all contacts from my phone, paid my bill in full and will tell my PCP when I see him next week for a follow up that I'm leaving Banner and never to return and hope he will do the same.
Do yourself a favor and find a private practice doctor, or at least a non massive corporation to trust your health needs to. The executives at Banner deserve to pay for the countless poor reviews that are all over the internet.
-Unhappy in Arizona
Desired outcome: Banner needs to refocus on putting customers/patients first. No more Auto attendant phones, no more blocking people from calling clinics directly to schedule, or discuss billing, no more [censored]ty service.
Nothing has changed. My brother died last September, and my sister-in-law is getting billed for what she already paid. Then she got a refund, only to be told (after being shuttled from one rep to another) that the refund needs to be paid back. Now, after speaking to them for the past two weeks, they tell her that she needs a death certificate before they can talk to her. This is after being on hold for over a half hour, being sent from one rep to another, and the supposed billing supervisor refusing to give my sister-in-law her direct phone #. Just ridiculous and no one to complain to. My guess is all the billing calls go to a call center that probably isn't even at Banner.
I have been overcharged for years it's more of a hassle to try to get anything done than to just eat the difference they basically told me if have to call every month
Now I'm just doing telephone visits and I'm being charged for office visits? Wow first I don't get self pay discount now you're charging me full for a 15 minute telephone visit? Lol get me off this ride
Mental health treatment
Upon arrival I was having an acute episode of PTSD from early onset trauma. I was brought in by ambulance and placed in the hallway for a short period of time. I was calm and seeking to get medically cleared so I could be placed into a treatment facility. Shortly after given a room I was immediately asked to change into a purple paper suit. I asked why I had to change out into the suit and was told it was hospital policy. I refused to change out and sat on the bed. Not even a minute went by and four security officers were at my door telling me that they were going to force me to change out. I felt extremely threatened by them and I became agitated after being calm when I came in. I started to pace back and forth around the bed in the room. The Sargent asked me if I was going to become violent and I told him no that I will not hurt anyone. Because I felt threatened by them I also became loud and was very boisterous. I do not like to change out of my clothes because I feel more comfortable and safe in them. After 15 minutes went by, the four guys came in and physically grabbed me and held me down on the table. I started yelling at them telling them that I would put the scrubs on at that time. Afterwards I was talking to the security personnel for over an hour about music and instruments and they kept me calm. Everything was fine accept I was talking nonstop because of them grabbing me and forcing me to comply. I was told that they had to close the door on me. I sat in the room pacing the room for around 2 hours with no problems at all. I had to use the restroom and they let me walk down the hall with no issues. I returned to the room and asked if I could leave the door open to get some air because it was stuffy in there and the head nurse said yes but just don't cross the doorway out of the room. I kept pacing because I was anxious and also I have MS and have to hang on to the walls and door or anything else I can so I don't fall over. Because I was being so loud they came into the room and told me that they were going to give me a couple of shots. I asked what the medicine was and they told me they were Benadryl and Ativan. I explained to them that the Benadryl makes my headache worst and that Ativan gives me heart palpitations. They asked what else I could take and I stated Vistaril. I took 50mg of Vistaril. After another hour of pacing the room being quiet with the door closed, I once again asked to have the door open so I could get some air. The head nurse said yes as long as you stay in the room. I told her that I would and that I will continue to stay quiet. At that time the girl sitting at watch for me had called security on me for some reason. Security came by and I was sitting on the bed quiet. He asked me what was wrong and I said what do you mean? He then asked the girl why she called him and she told him that I opened the door. I told her that I had asked for it to be open at which time she began to have an attitude with me. I went back to pacing and walking around my room and had stopped at the door a couple of times. I noticed that the girl started texting on her phone for an extended period of time. I felt like she was uneasy sitting in front of my room when the door was open so I went and sat on the bed. A few moments later all four security officers came to my room and the Sargent came in to talk with me. As usual he was very nice and really cared about me. He told me that the girl must be scared of me and that I have to close the door. He said that he was going to get me 3 blankets so could lay down and I agreed to lay down. I told him in no way would I ever hurt her or anyone in there and that I would never walk beyond that doorway. At that time he informed me that they were going to start another IV so I asked why? He said that they were going to give me Ketamine. I said NO I do not want ketamine I refuse to take it and I stood up. At that time he grabbed me and bent my arm backwards and flipped me onto the table and the other guy holding my left leg bent it backwards and really hurt me. The other guard held my arm as they placed an IV in my arm. I was seriously traumatized by this entire event. The doctor came into the room and I asked him why he was giving me Ketamine and he said that its because you said that your allergic to "everything" like a wise guy. I told him thats not true and that the Benadryl just enhances my headache and the Ativan hurts my heart. He said well you have just been out of control the entire time that you've been here. I said no I haven't Ive been just pacing the room being loud. But never once did I become violent or out of control. I didn't need Ketamine. I begged the doctor not to give it to me and that I was going to go to sleep with 3 hot blankets and he said "to late you had your chance". Now... I am a drug counselor and I have very rarely taken drugs. I do not drink, smoke, or take drugs, only for my MS problems. Giving me Ketamine at that time was totally uncalled for and the girl who was in charge of watching me should be fired for stating that I was out of control just because I was not closing the door and I was walking around the room. I NEVER became violent or hurt ANYONE for the need to put Ketamine into my body. I told him that I refuse the Ketamine and he said "YOU KNOW LONGER HAVE ANY RIGHTS". When I woke up I was freezing and I had chest pain and not one person came into the room to ask if I was ok. I could barely move because the guards had just restrained me violently, and having MS I could barely stand up. Immediately I asked for 2 warm blankets, asked for a doctor for my chest pain and to use the restroom. After I got the blankets I went right back to sleep until a counselor came into the room and told me that I was going home. A doctor nor a nurse even asked about my chest pain, not once was it even mentioned. I thought to myself that if I was so out of control and so violent then why are they in such a rush to release me? In my opinion, the young girl sitting at my door should be fired and Dr Robert Orava should be disciplined. I was having a crisis when I came into the hospital I needed some support, some caring support, not bossing me around telling me what to do to make me MORE agitated. The most helpful people in there where the security guards just sitting there talking to me. As I stated before, I was ready to lay down with 3 blankets and go to sleep. Its almost as if the girl at the door WANTED to see me fight with the guards and be put out with drugs. She was very agitated that she couldn't boss me around and made it like I was the one so out of control when honestly I wasn't, I was just loud and pacing. I would like to know what the text said to the doctor that brought him to back into my room to give me Ketamine. What did she actually say to him? I watched as all the other young staff did nothing but play around on their phones for hours and make jokes about the patients. I should not have had to keep the door closed on me, take the Ketamine, or violently put on the restraints to hold me down on the table.
Urgent care
I entered the urgent Care on Germann and Higley and your slothful receptionist wanted us to wait 2+ hours when my 10 yr old daughter had an acute first aid injury. She was bleeding and in severe pain and your company is more interested in masks and socially distancing than actually practicing medicine (which we put on with zero protest). You are all disgusting political puppets not medical "professionals". Martyrs not hero's.
Desired outcome: Medicine over politics - first aid over slothfulness

Covid 19 response
Banner Health is the Worst when it has come to Covid-19 Response! They are completely uninformed on treatments and therapies! Absolutely a disgrace to the true health care profession! My husband tested "positive" for Covid and they are completely ignorant on the response time of giving the "infusion" to treat it! A little too little a little too late! How incompetent can providers be? Good thing We are smart enough to research on our Own and found true doctors that have realized taking the following vitamins work!
D3, C, Zinc (along w! Quercetin), and magnesium CURE IT! [censored]s!

Unethical treatment/abuse
On 8/7/21 at approximately 1am, a family member was transported to Banner Desert ED, for a mental health evaluation, as she was extremely intoxicated (BAC 3.0) and had made threats of self-harm. approximately 12 hours post arrival, clinical staff attempted to conduct an evaluation with the patient, at which point she declined and requested to be discharged but was denied as an evaluation needed to take place to ensure her safety. The patent explained that she is a 26 year, active-duty Veteran (now retired) of the USAF and would like to be treated by the VA, that to was denied. The patient finally agreed to the evaluation on 8/8/21 around 5pm. Upon completion of the assessment, the patient was advised by the clinician that she doesn't believe that answers that were given as she is smart and knows how to get around these assessments and is only saying what is needed to be said to get released. The patient continues to ask why she is not being released and stated that she does not have thoughts of hurting herself or anyone else. A nurse by the name of Sara (works in the ED/BH department) indicated that based on what she had said when she was drunk, made them feel like she is a threat to herself. As the patient and I are speaking on the phone, Sara, told the patient that she needed to hang the call immediately! The patient asked why, and that's when the call was disconnected. We proceeded to call the hospital to inquire as to the status of the patient and was told that the nurses are not taking any calls for that patient. We tried to call a bit later and was advised by the switchboard that they did not have any patients by that name. At this point we are thinking that she has been transported to another facility. It wasn't until 5am the very next day that the patient reached out to a family member and advised that she was still in the ED but they had taken her phone privileges away. Being that she is unable to use the phone, the staff should be keeping in contact with the patient's family, according to their patients' rights and responsibilities. Hospital staff indicated that they have a point of contact that they are releasing information to, unbeknownst to the patient, as the person she did allow staff to give information to, had not been contacted. In fact, the only people that the patient did give permission for them to speak to, they refused to talk to. Moving forward to Monday, the patient was finally allowed to take a shower, brush her teeth and was given her phone privileges back. The nurse on shift was very apologetic for the treatment the patient had received up to this point. The patient was advised that a petition had been filed with the court to have her committed to the state hospital.
The treatment that the patient received by the staff is not only, unethical but abusive. Her rights as a human being have been violated. She should have never been questioned while intoxicated. When the hospital staff chose to release sensitive medical information to a person that the patient did not give consent to, HIPPA was in direct violation. THIS SITUATION WILL NOT BE SWEPT UNDER THE RUG, NOR FALL ON DEAF EARS.
Billing
I Jaime Kiefer had surgery by Dr David T Tzou a specialist on Feb 17, 21. I am a self pay patient so I got estimates for everything prior to surgery to know what it would cost. Original estimate for everything was approx. 10, 000 from Banner Health. 3 months later started getting bills all much higher now at 15000 50% higher then quoted. The doctor advised after surgery he wasn't able to do as much as he planned to do, (less work, less time in surgery).
I have been in contact weekly by phone calls, I have the dates, times and person name I spoke to. Was told on different occasions the acct would be on hold and under review, but yet the late notices continued and now I have received a collection noticed for one of the invoices. There has been no communication from banner personal. Some of the answers I have gotten from stuff was " there was unforeseen items needed for your surgery" this was a standard kidney stone removal done by a specialist in the field. How can we be 50% more? I would like to get this resolved without getting attorney's involved. My number [protected] if someone would like to call
Desired outcome: A fair price
Emergency Room issues
My husband and I arrived at the Banner Desert E.R. on 07/17/21 at 0300 hours and were absolutely appalled when we drove up and saw four police officers standing around and another one with a leashed/muzzled K-9 allowing it to urinate all over the lawn in front of the entrance. It felt like we were arriving at MARICOPA COUNTY instead of Banner! We walked in the entrance and immediately noticed the floor was littered with all sorts of debris-from tissues to diaper wipes to empty food bags. We stood and waited at an appropriate distance (but still visible by the personnel) from the registration desks where two individuals (a male to the left and a female to the right) were conversing and never acknowledged us until after we moved closer to get their attention. Once acknowledged, the male individual said 'whichever of you is the patient, please take a seat.' It seemed as if we were putting him out to take down my husband's info. My husband was in extreme discomfort due to constipation (and he also has an inguinal hernia) but when we said he was suffering from constipation, the male individual behind the desk said 'well if he's going, he's NOT constipated!' I was LIVID to say the least! WHAT AN ABSOLUTE IDIOT! Then that same male individual started making a BIG DEAL out of the fact that my husband has not received the COVID vaccine! Last time I checked, this is still AMERICA the land of freedom of choice! Needless to say, that male individual continued with his condescending attitude toward my 64-year-old husband who was extremely uncomfortable and DID NOT deserve to be JUDGED for his decision to NOT receive the COVID vaccine! My husband and I were both wearing masks yet NO ONE in the E.R., staff or patients, had MASKS on--including that male individual! The PLACE was filthy! The personnel were extremely RUDE! And we stayed about 10 minutes and then left! WE have lived in Mesa for 31 YEARS and Desert Sam Hospital was a good hospital UNTIL BANNER took it over! WE WILL AVOID that place like the plague and encourage any & all who seek medical treatment there to HEED this WARNING: You are likely to walk out of that place with MORE WRONG with you than when you walked in--physically and mentally!
Desired outcome: FIRE your RUDE, CONDESCENDING PERSONNEL and CLEANING STAFF! There are plenty of unemployed workers who COULD & WOULD do a better JOB than those working at Banner Desert E.R. currently!

Service at location 3200 S Gilbert Rd, Chandler, AZ 85286
Sunday June 6 at noon(100+ degrees outside). I transported my daughter and wife to this location for a serious infection that my daughter had. After registering her in with my insurance BC/BS we were told to have a seat in the waiting room. No other people other than the women that checked us in the front waiting area. One more person entered for service and sat across the room from us probably 20 ft. away. As soon as my wife and daughter went in to the room I was told I HAD to leave the building? Why- Banner company policy -as I was now considered to be a VISITOR. Go outside or to my car and wait. 400 sq ft. of air condition HEPA filtered air and all people masked up and I could not be allowed inside. Run my car-pollute the air with the burning of expensive gasoline because of company policy? REALLY. This is absurd! Next step of this story goes to Social Media.
Desired outcome: Return call from Banner Heath Corporate. My contact [protected]@yahoo.com
Had an ultrasound at banner imaging on 40th st Phoenix az
Thersa Frouge misrepresented the change in tumors since 3/3 ultrasound. 3/3 ultrasound 6.3, 3.3, 5.0. There is redemonstration of the biopsy-proven cancer in the axilla, measuring 6.3 x 3.6 x
5.0 cm, likely stable from 12/04/2020 exam. The right axillary now measures 4.2 x 2.1 x3.3 in the current ultrasound. It has changed significantly for the better. The tech Angela called me and insinuated it got worse. Trying to make me worry for no reason when I am healing from plants significantly and i told her that and then she asked me if i was going to have surgery. None of her Business. She is a tech. I told her my tumor markers dropped 72 % in 5 months. She was trying to make me feel i should have surgery and Theresa Frouge is lying. Angela and Theresa are pissed off cause im not having my breasts cut off and i am healing from plants.
Lack of care for my partner.
Dennis [censored]one, 1-9-47, 2137 E. Downing St. Mesa AZ, in Desert Banner Hospital on 1-27-21 to 2-4-21.
He went in because he had major edema on both legs and open sores on multiple toes that were weeping. He was in a mobile chair on his arrival and could stand and transfer himself to bed or toilet.
He was transferred to Citadel Post Acute on Broadway in Mesa late on 2-4-21.
They told me he had a bed sore on his left butt cheek. I did not see him or the sore until I took him out of the Citadel 2 days later.
When I got him home and looked at the bed sore I started crying. It was huge almost covering his whole cheek. We called his main doctor on Monday and we showed her a picture of it. She told us she would set up an appt. for a wound care nurse to come out and look at it. The wound care nurse came out yesterday and told us it was just above a 4 on the scale of bed sore deep tissue . He also lost both hearing aids... I will be sending a picture of his bed sore.
Desired outcome: I want to know how this could of happened? In his 74 years he has never had a bed sore and he has been in the hospital multiple times. Know I am still treating his toes and a major bed sore is added to the list.
