Love this app
Bobby’s Flavcity YouTube Channel has been one of my favorite channels for the past couple of years. Sometimes, before I go grocery shopping, I’ll watch his videos for healthy food finds and inspiration. Most of Bobby’s food standards have now become mine. Although at this point I know most of the Bobby Approved items, this app makes it extra convenient to double check myself on whether certain food/drink items have proper ingredients.
One thing I think would be a great addition to the app is if there was some sort of review section under the Bobby approved items. I’d like to know other fellow users opinions on how the food tastes, or how they cook or prepare the items.
Better than 5 stars!
I cannot begin to show my gratitude for the Bobby Approved app. I never buy anything unless I scan it first. It is a huge time saver over trying to read labels. I’m like Bobby, the print is so little on most packaging that I cannot read it. Bobby saves me so much time. The app is super easy to use and I love the fact that I can send info on a product he has not reviewed. Also, checking by Brand helps me with online shopping when I don’t have the barcode to scan.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart and health for all you have done with the app. Love everything about FlavCity, Bobby, and his adorable family. Please keep up your invaluable work. You are a gem!❤️
Just life changing
I use to spend so much money buying products I though we’re healthy and They we NOT. This app has made me recognize the good from the bad and teach me what to look for in my food choices. And this is all about choices of what I choose to buy. If I decide to choose a better alternative ir must be the real thing and I should pay for what I get. There are so many unhealthy ingredients hiding in so many of the foods we consume! Having awareness and information has been a game changes for us. I am now using the app every single time I go grocery shopping. Love the fact that the unhealthy ingredients are highlighted in red with each product I scan. Love my Bobby approved products.
This App Encourages Disordered Eating
This high level of obsession over food will cause so much stress that will lead to so many more health issues than some non-organic strawberries that you wash. He is brainwashing people! Don’t fall for it. Only take your diet advice from REGISTERED DIETICIANS. If Bobby can complete that education maybe I will listen to something he has to say. I think he has good intentions but it not educated enough of these topics and does not even explain things using research studies and scientific evidence- RED FLAG! If he is making you feel obsessed over food, it may be a good idea to unfollow and try to make generally healthy eating choices and meet with a dietician if you need help with that.
AMAZING
I have watched Bobby and Dessi for over a year now on YouTube and they have turned my life around with all of their tips and recipes. Now that they have an app that literally tells you what to buy and not to buy, it eliminates the guess work of figuring out if a product is beneficial for your body or not (which in most cases they aren’t). The app works seamlessly when scanning bar codes (there are even pictures of the products). It even shows in detail why something might not be Bobby approved. They also have their YouTube videos linked and a list full of approved items at many popular grocery stores. I cannot believe this app is free! Do yourself a favor and download this now!
Follow flavcity! And buy the 5 ingredient cookbook
Once upon a time, I went hard core paleo and felt great!
Two kids, a full time job and being a student later, cue survival mode of avoiding starvation.
Then my mom told me about how she was cleaning up her diet because of some Bobby guy.
A bit of Instagram following later, I decided I could do this clean eating even in a busy time.
Suddenly, an app is born. Now I can walk through my house, or grocery stores and simply scan items to immediately know what kind of decision I’m making for my health.
Wow. Thank you so much for the phenomenal app!
I would love to be able to scan and add to a shopping list if you add a shopping list feature. Then either at home I can scan empties and I can scan things to try next time.
Must have app !
This is a must have app if you like to eat “real food” who doesn’t right?
It’s dose so many things, it’s tells you if a food is worth eating if not why not ? It’s has the answer and the substitute for it. You can also help Bobby by add items that’s not added yet . I have been following this family on YouTube and now on YouTube for over 4 years they mean business they care about their fan and educate people about PHD (proper human diet), the app is free to use ! You can also get discount codes on some websites, shop with it . Bobby is one of the hardest workers I seen on social media ! Get this app you won’t regret it, again free and easy to use, scan an item, put it on your shopping cart or put it back on the shelf that’s all .
Easy to use!
After 2 years of my weight loss journey, I have decided to take my gut health serious since I am fairly lean but always noticed I’m bloated after eating meals. Since finding this man on YouTube, my whole perception of “healthy” food has changed. I always just went for the lowest calorie option. Now, I take the time to read labels and find things that won’t make my stomach want to turn inside out. Making simple changes in eliminating the bad emulsifiers, gums, etc. my bloating has essentially gone away. As long as I’m sticking to an organic-ish diet most of the week, I feel amazing.
As far as the app, anyone can navigate it and it makes it extremely easy to double check things and improve knowledge on ingredient labels. The app is “Chad” approved
Red flags when I scanned my items
The videos are convincing at first and will make you feel like you’ve been doing it all wrong, but this app raised red flags upon checking the items in my pantry and refrigerator. Lots of ingredients he vehemently opposes in his videos are in the “approved” items I had (Zevia soda has the Bobby Abhorred ~natural flavors~), and items I knew should *notbe “approved,” such as the Japanese-style peanuts that have soy sauce, multiple food colorings, and MSG in them were in there as “approved.” Meanwhile, regular cashews and pistachios in my pantry were *not approved.” Also, my multivitamin and CoQ10 supplements were “not approved.” Bertolli spaghetti sauce “not approved,” but Ragu that has identical ingredients is “approved.” You get the idea, hopefully. This whole thing is stealth marketing. Deleted app and consulting actual nutrition experts.
Intentions are good
I like the the concept of this app on the surface, and the intentions are good. However, it is disorganized and not easy to use at times, especially when searching for “approved” products. There are many times you scan a product and it comes up as “not approved” but you don’t know know what ingredient(s) are the issue. This is unfortunate, as Bobby does a good job in his videos describing why certain ingredients he finds are an issue. Then you can make a decision about whether you agree or if that is important to you . There are other times when you want to search for “approved” products in a certain product category and you will see the same product not only listed multiple times, but also also as “approved” AND “not approved”. It is the same product, label, ingredients. Can be confusing for users looking for advice or want to to compare products.
Search is broken and useless
Having worked in tech for 20 years optimizing and indexing search for many of them, this may be the most broken search experience I have used. The initial search works ok- but if you apply any filter or edit an existing search term- the relevance of the results drops to near zero forcing an app restart to clear it out. I have not yet tried the in-store scanner, and assume it works well based on the reviews. But if you are planning ahead at home using Search, it is nearly impossible to find results. I searched “oat milk”. The category filters don’t allow any filtering to this category as the results also contain “goat milk” and I want to only see plant based milks. So filtering does not work. If I apply any other filter , the results seem broken from that point forward and an app restart is the only way to get back to a clean search. So really , only your first time search works after opening the app. Any filtering or editing breaks search completely.
Questions to make app a 5 start
I like the scanning part of it. That great to see what bobby says about it.
I emailed support for help with the app three times and no one has responded nothing. How do you run this. Not well. Answer please. How long does it take someone ri tell me if something is Bobby approved or not after taking the pictures. It doesn't help if it's not in your system can you take pictures and you don't know if it's healthy or not you need faster system . When something is not approved. And you show what is approved you need to put where to buy it out. That would help a lot can you take a lot of time to look up things and I don't have the time and people don't have a time. And I like to know how you can delete stuff in your search after you scanned it you don't want everything on there but there's no way to delete it. I hope you can fix this ASAP. And respond to my emails.I would still get the app. But they need to fix a couple of things to make it much easier to use.
This app is approved!
I was a skeptic at first to download the Bobby approved app on my phone. I didn’t want to give up any of my favorite delicious, canoily junk foods. I didn’t want to make any changes to my diet (even though I really needed to). However I made the plunge to download the app. Honestly, I was so impressed on how easy it was to use the Bobby approved app. When scanning a product, the app basically tells you, “It’s crap, your better off without it, move on” or, it tells you “go ahead, it’s Bobby approved go ahead, enjoy”. This app makes it okay for you to still enjoy your favorite foods with modified choices for the greater good of your health! I’ve been vegan for 7 years and I’ve gone back and forth from junk food vegan to plant based vegan. This app literally is my saving grace, the medium between health and happiness! This app works super well in mostly any store. I use it every week in Trader Joe’s hoping I see the thumbs up sign on new products and my favorite foods!
App is awesome! Scan everything in your kitchen
I ended up downloading this app after watching many FlavCity YouTube videos. I scanned everything in my pantry and fridge right away! I have bought many of the items that I knew were Bobby Approved already, but I was surprised to find my nut butter, almond milk, yogurt and chicken were not the best choices! I am glad that I can see alternatives on this app and that I can also see the ingredients that made an item not Bobby Approved and see the reasons why. Some items that were not approved, I was like “What?! Whyyyyy? Not my favorite butter!” Knowing the WHY helps me to let go and want to explore other alternatives. I think this app is going to get better and better as more items are scanned. It will definitely save a lot of time in the grocery store and will help people be more informed about what all goes into the food we buy. Bobby and his family are doing great things and the passion and time that they put into helping people shows in the content that they put out into the world.
LOVE
Oh my greatness! I’m in love with the app! It takes away the concern from purchasing something with questionable ingredients! Now I wish products had UPC codes on front of the packages I had been purchasing a butter alternative that was not Bobby approved but with the apps help I have found another option. I did find and item that had not been uploaded so I sent pictures of the product and ingredients in but felt guilty knowing Bobby would to stay up and research the product. It just shows the dedication and love of what he represents. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and family with us. The people with negative reviews apparently aren’t aware Bobby stated it’s a work in progress and he is trying to add and evolve the app but it takes time. Rome wasn’t built in a day♀️and in no way does anyone have to adhere to his Keto lifestyle he offers so much useful information along with what he has chosen for himself. Take away what is useful for yourself or move along to something else. Just make the app icon Rose❣️
why do you care what Bobby approves??
I’ve followed Bobby on social media. He seems like a nice enough guy, has a sweet kid, and provides some good recipes once in a while. But he’s not a nutritionist or registered dietician or anyone with a hint of scientific knowledge about what foods should be “approved” and what shouldn’t. He regularly calls things “highly toxic” and bad for you without any proof or evidence based data to back it up. I’m just as qualified to tell you what to eat as he is. So it makes me kind of sad that there are people out there following him like a cult leader seeking for his approval in what to eat!
I did download the app to see if he gives any more information on why certain things are approved and others are not. Sadly, he does not. There’s just a bunch of items in red with the rather childish explanation that it’s “really bad stuff”.
I hope people will learn to do their own research and follow science instead of deciding what to eat based on what a random influencer on the Internet says.
Good/reliable information is out there, people! The Bobby Approved app is simply not it.
Feels like I’m shopping with Bobby
I am constantly opening my Bobby approved app when I’m in the grocery store or one of my parents buys something that looks like it’s probably not good. The app is very user friendly and you can navigate easily. One things that has shown me some problems is the search feature, that can be tricky sometimes when looking for something and it doesn’t show up but then you delete the search and it shows up under brands and then it works. Overall experience is worth 5+ stars. So many great deals on there like seed that I got turned onto from Bobby and especially thieve market. Worth a download and go scan everything in your house haha because you will be surprised to see what is harmful. I think I can proudly say everything that I use like food items or personal care products or even soaps and detergents are completely Bobby approved thanks to the app and Bobby teaching you what is worthy of being in your body and what to always avoid. THANK YOU Bobby for your amazing app and hard work and please continue to do what you do. You have inspired me to be just like you one day when I grow up and now going to studying public health at college!
WOW - THIS APP IT SO AMAZING !
I have been following Bobby for years on YouTube and when the app came out I downloaded it. IShej you use this app, it really like Bobby is shopping with you telling what foods are good and bad and why. I spent 3 hours yesterday walking around Whole Foods and had a blast I was laughing the whole time because it was like Bobby was in my ear saying “ Rachel don’t get that - it’s not the best option” The app is helping me to better understand what I am putting in my body and why this is important. When I stick to the Bobby Approved suggested foods: I lose weight, my digestive problems disappear, and I feel better about myself. My suggestion for the app is: the app asks you what store you are at in the beginning, when you scan a non approved item, the app will suggest optional approved items at that store. Ex. If I scanned a non Bobby approved tartar sauce at Whole Foods - the app would show a button that says - click here for Bobby approved tartar sauces. Then I would then look right away for the Bobby approved item and put it in my basket. Thank you Bobby and family for making my life great again. Many blessings to your future cooking endeavors and knowledge. And thanks Bobby for making this app. Mad love and peace!
Bobby cashing out, on you health and give you poor advice!
WARNING***
Not sure what Bobby knows about nutrition. The food network didn’t make a mistake; it sounds like Bobby is a liability. He has a degree in finance. He failed at that, so now he’s trying to be a social media star. It shows Bobby lacks fiber because he’s definitely is full of it. Maybe some prunes might help?
Please ask yourself WHY does Bobby gets to give out a seal of approval. He gets money every time you use his promo code/coupons. He pays to be on shows and also pays to go to parties to be “seen” with celebrities cooks.
***Please asking your physician if a “keto” diet is right for you. If heart disease runs in your family, run the other way! Keto diets should come with a warning. It can be hazardous.
He often refers to the “EWG,” an organization that fabricates its standards the majority of the time. Your tax dollars have already acted on what they “report.” The junk base EWG is just beating a dead horse to raise money. They made 10 million in revenue per year.
You can eat your strawberries, kale, spinach, and potatoes. You just need to wash them. Harvard found “Organic food no more nutritious than conventionally grown food.” If you cannot get organic, don’t worry about it, ALL veggies and fruit have great nutrition!
Duplicates & UX Terrible - Bobby UNapproved!
I’m a fan of Bobby’s educational social media that steers consumers to eat healthier. Was excited to find the app to search for the most nutritious products.
HOWEVER, whomever is running the app has loaded the same products multiple times.
As an example a block Parmesan a Reggiano Cheese from Costco/Kirkland is listed 31 times (yep I counted). It appears the name is either slightly misspelled or only partial identification on the title is listed.
Costco shows a total of 442 products and given the many, many items listed multiple times suspect the total number of products Bobby approved is significantly less.
This would be an easy UX fix (each item should have multiple search tags on it vs loading each item per tag (e.g., Parmesan a Reggiano, Parmesan, Cheese, Reggiano Cheese, Parm Cheese etc.).
It would also be helpful to include search option per store. If I’m at Costco - I should be able to search the word Chicken and only Costco Bobby Approved Chicken should come up. Currently you can only search at the main page and then every stores chicken is listed? WHY?
Not sure if the app development was a “we need an app” initiative but really wasn’t thought through on the users experience.
Bobby would/should not approve this app!
Happy to change my rating once these items are fixed or improved to ensure the app is a useable
tool.
Bobby Approved Complaints 18
App needs major improvements
Unlike Yuka or other apps of this kind, Bobby doesn’t give any information as to why something is approved or not approved. So the user has to rely entirely on him to make a decision. That’s not transparent and definitely doesn’t help create more informed shoppers. Until this app adds things like that there are better options out there.
I do love the idea of this app
I would love to give this a 4-5 star review just based on the concept alone. Its a helpful tool for those of us learning to read the labels and ingredients. BUT there should be an explanation on why products are deemed good or bad. Otherwise we are not learning for ourselves and will forever need to rely on someone else to steer us in the right direction.
Great concept, but…
Love watching the videos as at least Bobby tells you why you’re the worst person in the world for eating foods with “natural flavors” or cheaper oils in his videos. This app doesn’t convey Bobby’s normally judgmental details on why food items are/aren’t “Bobby approved” but still slaps you with the “NOT APPROVED” guilt trip so you can still feel bad about yourself.

Shady
I agree with other reviewers, he has no education in nutrition and he doesn’t take into consideration that some people can’t eat this way. I used to like watching the videos until it became clear to me this was all about profits. I don’t know about anyone else but I can’t always afford or have access to organic all the time. It started out ok but now he’s just a sellout.
Could be good…
I love watching Bobby’s videos but this app is lacking. I like the ingredient list but the “bad” list doesn’t explain why the ingredient should be avoided. E.g.: red dye 40 just lists “really bad stuff”. Additionally, when I scan something that’s “not Bobby approved” it doesn’t call out why.
More explanation and links to the scientific data would make this worthwhile. Deleting.
Too many of the same!
I love Bobby’s advices, videos etc. this app is great because is free of ads (still) and a great resource if you are too lazy to read the labels. I have installed and deleted many times because I am a big fan, but it is just annoying you cannot search specific item under the stores and you have the same item listed hundred times. It’s not very user friendly :( Great idea but needs lots of improvement.
I love Bobby but not this app- here’s why
So I watch Bobby’s videos on food recommendations every week. I’ve found the app to be inconsistent with the foods he suggests. For example- Bobby recommends RX Protein bars but when you scan them in the store they are a no on his app. He also recommends unflavored Siggi yogurt, scan it in the store and it’s a no. This app is inconsistent from what he recommends in his videos and that’s super frustrating to me so I switched to Yuka as my in store scanning app.
Why?
There needs to be an explanation as to WHY a product is not approved; continue our education, Bobby.
There also should be a ⭐️ rating instead of a yes or no. If it’s your mission to educate your followers, continue the education in this application.
I deleted this application once several months ago and decided to give it a try again. I’m not enthused anymore than last time. I want to know WHY!
If there is one ingredient that is unapproved then tell us why!
Nope!
This app is fear mongering at its best. Here you have someone with absolutely zero scientific credentials telling you that palm oil is “inflammatory” (it’s not) or that “natural flavors” are completely unregulated (they aren’t). Or that there is “GMO salt” (that’s impossible, salt isn’t an “organism”)
Do yourself a favor and talk to a registered dietician or your physician if you have questions about your diet.
This app is to promote him and his pseudo-scientific theories. Move on.
Great App, but…
Great idea and great start… I have been watching Bobby’s YouTube channel since long time.. now I’m a technical person and noticed some major problems with this app. 1- it’s really slow 2- sometime it just doesn’t work no matter how fast your internet connection is. 3- since I installed this app I see it didn’t get any updates. 4- Search option doesn’t work properly I confirmed these problems with my friends and family who uses this app. So I hope this app developers read this and fix the bugs
Ruined my diet. Many products are not healthy approved here!
He approves many products with high amount of added sugar and disapproves many products because having sugar! And guess what they even have less sugar!
For example: guys check CHOCXO at Costco has 2g added sugar not approved here. At the same time his friend’s product PURELY ELIZABETH Pumpkin Cinnamon has 5g added sugar that’s more than a teaspoon guys as he says! Guess what guys IT IS APPROVED HERE! Also KIRKLAND CASHEW CLUSTERS has 5g added sugar and it is approved here! And many more I am sure !
This app is stupid
This app is so bad apparently flour is bad for u. Like I don’t care it’s flour. This app has no scientific proof to back up its claims on what is good and bad. Don’t download this unless u what to laugh at how stupid it is. It also said that my vitamins are bad for me but they are the thing that always makes me get better faster. How are vitamins bad for u. Bffr. All it proves it that people are gullible. Also I don’t wanna eat that nasty “healthy” food I’m gonna stick to my Welch’s fruit snacks that actually taste good.
WTH
This has got to be the goofiest app on food I think I’ve seen in awhile. It doesn’t show why “chef” Bobby disapproves the food. Though I would imagine it’s because HIS food wasn’t scanned. I’ve known and worked with many Chefs, some good some bad, but none have ever made me not want to eat their food until now. Mr. Bobby is a piece of work, I can only assume he writes a good recipe. This app needs to be either updated or for the better everybody taken down. If you know ANYTHING about food and how it can be prepared, find another application.
Like the concept but it’s frustrating
Concept is great and I wish it worked better. I like when you can quickly scan in stores and it provides you with an approved/not approved. However it doesn’t tell you why most of the time.
Also when searching for products, it’s not easy. You’ll search for a brand, it won’t come up, then search the item, and you’ll see the brand below. Why didn’t it come up in my search? Also the same brand can be approved and not approved for extremely similar products and its difficult to find out why one thing is approved and the other isn’t.
Work out the kinks and this will be great!
One day it’s Bobby approved the next it’s not
I was very excited about this and was using this faithfully. Because I’m on it a lot, I start to remember what is approved and what is not. I’m becoming very frustrated because I’ve noticed that many things that were once Bobby approved on this app a couple of months later they are not! I’m not sure if his team is not on the same page but I can name three things that were once approved and now not! The ingredients remained the same! It’s super frustrating and I’ve thought about not using it anymore. To the team please make this easier for the consumer by being on the same page.
Miss information
I recently purchased EU baby formula after watching a video of his on YouTube. He has a video reviewing baby formulas and recommending the best brands. He says and recommends LOULOUKA as the best in the EU market. However I used this app and scanned the can and it comes
Out as UNAPPROVED. What’s up this? Either there’s a glitch in the system or he didn’t get a sponsorship and decided to unapprove this product after reviewing it on his channel speaking how great of a product it is. Things just don’t add up. People watch and look for advice, but after this unveiling I have second thoughts. How creditable is this man?
BEWARE: Dangerous app
This app is only based on what this guy Bobby thinks is “approved.” That is so obnoxious of him to think he is the one that will tell people what is healthy or not based on his approval. Smh
This app is dangerous and you need to do your own check with your physician, your health history etc. This guy know absolutely NOTHING about your health history or about nutrition. His finance background does NOT qualify him to give out any health advice. He gets his information from other influencer and google searches. He is NOT a nutritionist or a doctor. I’m surprised the App Store would allow this. I will write in and see what they have to say.
A2 milk
You are the one who said A2 whole milk is good then why does it show not approved by Bobby . Please explain .
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
