Bottom Line review: unsolicited book! 146

This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

Bottom Line Books keeps sending their annual book despite notes sent to the on the prior bill. These books are unsolicited and there is no apparent way to stop delivery. According to others in this predicament, if you fail to pay for this unsolicited book they threaten to mess up your credit report.

This is an out and out criminal scam on the part of this unscrupulous company and we don't seem to have any recourse except to pay.

I returned an unsolicited book last month and just got a bill asking for the full cost or two installments. I read the posts here and called [protected] to speak to a Customer Service Rep. He told me that the return had been received on the 15th of this month, so the "bill must have crossed in the mail." However, he assured me that my account would be closed as of this date. We'll see.

We are battling this company over unsolicited books also. After some research I found this contact information and we were able to successfully (we hope) remove our names from their mailing list. Good luck to all of you.

I posted a complaint against this company about their devious scam to try to force me to purchase your product. Now you have my personal information posted on the web. I am requesting that you remove my information from your sight. I will be forced to seek legal assistance in this matter. Thank you, Mrs. Brady

Today June 6, 2008 I received an unsolicited book which this company wants to bill me for $35.90.

I dind't order it. I will return the book when they send the $5.95 postage. Also I want my name and all information removed from their records.

I hope I don't have to take legal action over this matter.

I have a book from Bottom Line I never ordered. My solution if this happens; don't open the package. Return it to the sender and they can pay the postage. I have no idea what the book is about, but in my financial situation, I don't buy books from anyone.

I have the same problem with Bottom Line Books as well. I have been sent The Prescription Alternatives book and look ed it over and decided to buy it, so then I payed for the bill, I had written this down in my check book, sent it out way back from March 24th, 2008. I'm still being billed from them and they are harassing me, telling me that if I don't pay they are going to hurt my creit rating as well and put me through their collection agency. I had emailed them and sent letters to stating that I had already payed but they refuse to listen too. The bills just keeps on coming. So what do you do to stop them from sending anymore bills when you have the proof that you sent the check to them from March 08?

Had the same "UNSOLICITED BOOK" experience. Sent book
back unopened. (Received in early May '08 and sent back within a week). They got it back June 20th as I was told by their representative at this number--[protected].
I was told also that my name & address is now removed and my account deactivated. (I never requested an account in the first place).
Thankyou to the folks who gave the number!
Hope this ends the scam.

Received a bill from your company Acct#[protected].
The bill was for the book "Treasury of Health Secrets. I purchased it one line and used my Credit Card. Being as I did not get a confirmation from you, and being that nowhere can I find a telephone number, I am upset with your billing procedure. Your bill is very deceptive. First it says Total Bill $47.94, Then under P.S. it states " You may pay the full balance of $47.94 or the $31.96 covering installments # 1 & 2 that is due now, making that a total of $63.92 which was not the original price offered off AOL's Daily stories this was recommended by Hugh Downs. Now I don't know what is going on and I don't appreciate the lack of information on how to contact you and discuss this problem. I do not want my credit ruined by your company and it's lack of information. But if I don't hear from you I will be sending the book back.

Please respond. My home phone number is [protected]

Sincerly,
Ronald White

The bottom line is: If you received unsolicited merchandise through the U.S. Postal service, you are under no obligation to the sender. If the item was un-opened, simply ask the postal service to return it. If you opened it, you can either throw it out or keep it as a free gift! Don't waste your valuable time responding to unsolicited merchandise which include bills or threats of collections. For more information check the U.S. postal Inspectors web site.

Goodness, this is sad. No reason to do this when you print a helpful newsletter (Bottom Line). The Call to them requesting the "Procedure" to return the Books is very Important. Most Compainies will not accept returns if they receive them outside of the written procedure. Once you have the written procedure, do make sure the Post Office has someone sign for the 'Return" and keep all that infromation togeather. Threats to demote you're Credit Report are w/o merit, single items under $100 are usually considered as "Disputes", not to be concerned unless you have ten or more "Disputes". No one should need to persist in returning materials when the item arrived w/o your prior authorization. I keep mine and not pay if they won't designate just how to make the return possible--most JP's would agree with you under this arrangement. Yes, take them to your local District Justice! to resolve the matter and get a favorable judgement. Good Luck.

I just got off the phone with a CS rep about the "Health Breakthroughs 2008" book I received last week. The accompanying invoice said that I had placed an internet order which I probably did--last year. I was suspicious about receiving an invoice as I always pay at the time I buy using a credit card or Paypal, but I honestly could not remember if I had ordered the 2008 book. So, I searched for Bottom Line contact info online and found this site.
The CS rep took my payment via credit card as I requested and assured me that my account was cancelled. We shall see. At the very least, I have proof of payment from AMEX.
Thanks to all who have posted their stories here. It is very helpful. If I had not read so much about this company, I probably would have just sent a check and the problem would reappear next year. I will update if I have any further problems.

I received a order of books from Bottom Line Books today which they say was ordered on the internet with the total amounting to $47.94. I of course never ordered any books. I am a widow and cannot afford this kind of luxury. On their bill there is no phone number or internet address and I find this frustrating. I don't want these books and do not know how to get them back to Bottom Line because they are to large to fit into my mailbox.

I have had the same problem with bottom line books . Recieved books that I did not order. I just got off the phone with them and I think the problem is solved.
They are even sending me a return label so I can return it free. I hope this works. Call this Number [protected] for customer service for BOOKS.
They said I should get mail back material is 7 days. We will see. I also got a cancellation confirmation number. If this does not work I will call the
Attorney General for Mo. and file a complaint. They can stop them from doing business in this state if they are fradulent which they are.

I received an invoice for Bottom Line Healthy Living Secrets, a book that I never ordered, or received for that matter. Initially, I was going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it was an honest billing mistake. However, given the enormous number of complaints similar to mine, I am moving forward with the assumption that this was deliberately deceitful.

I was able to track down the following contact information for Bottom Line Publications. Hopefully this will help someone else:

I received three books in the mail from Bottom Line Secrets that I did not order. I had ordered a book from them probably about a year ago or so. I did receive the book in an acceptable time frame. The books I received are about cooking in the kitchen. Hell, I don't even walk thru my own kitchen unless the Mrs. calls me and she very seldom cooks. I'm starting to wonder what kind of an outfit this bottom line secrets co. is. Anyway, to make a long story short, I absolutely will never order or purchase anything from bottom line secrets again. I sent the books back that I received. We'll see if they send me a bill for the books I sent back.

Same problem here. I originally ordered the 2007 version and received the 2008 and 2009 versions without placing an order.
I called [protected] and they agreed not to send any more books. They said that all their books are "series books" that renew automatically unless cancelled. But their advertising never mentioned anything about an auto send series.
