I'm sickened at what myself and a couple of other shoppers witnessed as the Shoppers Drug Mart on Eramosa. An employee was completely rude and disrespectful to a customer who clearly has special needs. The gentleman had been at the post office area and had folded down boxes and placed them neatly on the counter. He had brown paper in his hand and had been looking for a place to put it. After looking for a couple of minutes he went to leave. The employee who had been hovering immediately engaged with him and told him he is not to leave his garbage behind, take it home, and was very disrespectful in his tone and words used. The gentleman tried to explain that another employee always helps him and put the cardboard in a bin. He was cut off several times trying to explain this. He told the employee he would take it home and he was told leave it. The employee took the cardboard and walked to the back. The gentleman stood there looking in the back windows and waiting, just looking. When the employee came back out he told him he could leave and the man did. Another women and I had asked if he was okay between the interaction and again when he left but he was clearly frazzled about what he may have done. We explained to the employee how he came across to the man. His excuse was he does this all the time and leaves his garbage everywhere. He had no clue he may have a special needs. If he encounters this man several times he would clearly know his condition. He then went in the back and laughed with the other 2 employees that were back with him. This man left the area neat and was used to another employee helping him with the empty boxes. I'm not saying he should or should not leave his empty garbage behind, the issue is how an employee feels he can speak to anyone the way he did and then laugh about it. He belittled this man and should not be in customer service if he thinks this is okay. Maybe I'm just overreacting, I just feel that anyone no matter the reason should be spoken to with respect and dignity, the situation could have been handled much better.
After my conversation with Ken the store manager, he told me information about the Gentleman named Randy and how he went into the store to ask which razor to use to shave his "balls" the managers exact words. He told me this employee Dan had been working for 5 years there and had no business talking to him and he would speak to him about how to speak to customers. I am appalled that the manager felt it okay to tell me about a past issue with Randy the customer and personal information.
Please let me know that this will be addressed.
Thank you
