loss of service
Several channels were recently removed from regular programming and placed on "available via cable box rental". Cablevision explains that the channels in question were no longer being transmitted analog and only digital transmission was available. My response: " I purchased Digital TVs with digital receivers". Cablevision comes back with: "we do not support digital TVs!" What was that? The country is going digital and a major cable company does not support Digital TV.
Is the possible explanation that Cablevision wants to rent "cable boxes' and not offer digital transmission to customers that own Digital TV receivers. Does anyone have a logical explanation for this?
poor customer service
Tonight was the second time this week that I had to contact the customer service department of the Long Island cable company, Cablevision. I am so very tired of having to wait for the next representative...tonight it was 19 minutes. The other evening it was 29 minutes. Both times, I was helped by one department, but then had to wait again to speak with someone else in another department to solve my second problem. After waiting some time, I finally gave up and hung up; which is probably what they want you to do! I do not understand why they cannot hire more people. Certainly, they charge enough for their service. Last month I paid $205. for the month. I am so disgusted with their customer service procedures that I am very tempted to leave and go to Verizon! Doesn't the customer have any importance anymore? I would never deal with people the way this big conglomerate does. It's disgraceful!

Optimum is taking advantage of the public. If you have their services and move or cancel your cable, phone, internet services one day into your billing period they charge you for the entire month even though you are not going to continue to use the services. They will not pro-rate your services so you only pay for what you use. This is the only company who will not pro-rate. How are they getting away with this rip off. The attorney General should be made aware of this scam. Do not use Optimum please pick another carrier.
I am so mad at this company I am spitting nails. After my husbands company decided to stop paying for his telephone charges (he works from home and accrues high phone bills) we choose to try a VOIP. However, our DSL line is not fast enough to support the usage he needs and decided to switch to Optimum. I called and explained to customer service that we were interested in swithcing and we needed someone to come and run a line from the main connection to where our computer resides - they then scheduled an appt. However, upon arrival the tech informed us that they do NOT run lines anymore (why didn't the person from cablvision tell me that?), however, they tested the line coming in to the house and realized it was not working and that they needed a bucket truck to correct that problem at the tap. So we went ahead and ran a new line, and I called to reschedule and explained that a bucket truck was also required as per the previous tech. Again, I take off from work and the tech shows up at 9 am with NO bucket truck and says that there is a problem with the line and a bucket truck is necessary. He proceeds to call someone else to come with a bucket truck and 2 hrs later, someone else shows up with NO bucket truck. Looks at the situation and says we need a bucket truck and they have no access to one. It is now 11:30, I have 2 techs here and still cannot get the internet hooked up. They call in a request for a bucket truck, explain that IF the bucket truck shows up taht day the tech will come back before 7 pm to finish job. At 12:10 pm I run out to a lunch appt previously scheduled just as the bucket truck shows up. I explain to the guy that Ihave a prev appt and I will return around 1:30 pm - assumed he didn't need me home. He agrees and states he will notify tech that I will not be back till 1:30 so he doesn't show up earlier. But guess what ? I arrive home to a message that the tech showed up at 1:07 pm and no one was there so I would need to reschedule. I called Cablevision, explained situation and she said she would call tech to see if he could come back as they are out working till 8pm. Mind you, during our 2 1/2 hr "visit" with tech earlier as we were making "small talk" he told me he only had 4 calls that day ... kind of a slow day. So I figured I was good to go. Needless to say, I get a call back from Cablevision saying tech could not come back out so I would need to recschedule. After I express my frustration, she says ... "well, you have to understand, he was out there twice already today"! As if that was MY problem. Perhaps if Cablevision LISTENED to the customers when schduleing, crap like this wouldn't happen! Now I will have to take a THIRD day off from work to stay home just in an attempt to get internet hookup. And they are surprised that I dont want to change over my phone & tv to their service! Go Figure. Also, could this be why companies go under ? ... cannot imagine how much it cost to have 5 techs (hopefully it will only be 5 IF everything goes ok on next appt) scheduled to hook up one SIMPLE internet service ... Unfortunately they got me between a rock and a hard place. Nobody else offers this service in the area and the telephone line is sooooooooo slow I might as well not have internet service! I really really really hope once I have it its worth it!
Just came back from vacation at the shore in ct.
The house had ATT dvr and cable service. It was great.Easy to navigate and most impressive...the fastforward worked excellent. Very sensitive and stopped where you wanted it, unlike optimum which is very frustrating to use. I swear they've gone backward in technology. We liked our old boxes better.

This company sucks! The only reason they make so much money is there is a sucker born every minute, and if they sign up enough dopes who don't know any better, or who won't cancel if something goes wrong, they don't give a ###ing ### if you call up and complain about the lousy service and billing fraud! It's almost impossible to work through their complicated phone menu to get someone to listen to your complaint. If you do get a live person, they say that's not their department, so they say they will connect you to someone who will help, but all you get is unlimited cheesy music until you get so pissed off you hang up.

I have one cablebox, for premium channels, the remainder of the tv's are directly hooked up to cable and receive basic service. When the salesman came to sign us up for their service, we made he tell us specifically the cost we would incur. We had it written down on our service order. This also included 3 free boxes. We had the impression this service order would be binding. After getting the initial bill which was incorrect and took several months to correct, the very next month the bill went from $132 to $151 - when I called they told me we had to pay for the 3 boxes. The CSR told me that they would never give the boxes for free. I then asked to speak with a supervisor who told me the same. I said you aren't going to honor your contract - which she says to me that there is no contract so I rephrased it by saying honoring the agreement we had with their sales rep. She said he was wrong. I tried to call him to get the corrected but he never called back. As was their probably intention, I stopped pursuing it thinking $19 was not that much more. Well, I've had the service for a year and the sales rep told us after the first year our fees would go up $23 dollars. We went from $152 to $224! Now I have to start all over! We have the choice of Cablevision or Verizon which I switched from because they gave me a price but every month I had to call and get the bill changed to the corrected price - we can we do?!

I have had so many problems from day one with Cablevision, whether it be with the service or the customer service. For months I have had problems with the picture on my screen looking digitalized, sometimes it lasted 2 days and I would not be able to watch any tv. They supposedly ran diagnostics, sent someone out(after 4days from my initial phone call) and said everything looked fine. Thanx!
Then I wanted to lower my cable bill so I got rid of my voip phone and lowered my cable from the silver package to the family. I saved myself a whole $15 but it was a win for me not to have to give them an extra penny of my money. Sooo, I get my cable bill and it seems a little higher than it should be. I ask the first of 4 customer serv reps to run down my bill, and nothing seemed different. It was finally the 4th rep I spoke to that says, you are paying an extra $10 a month for a box I didn't have, that had to be added when I dropped my package cause it was never there and then says you have IO Navigation. So I say whats that? He says I don't know please hold. He comes back and says its for digital music stations and a channel lineup channel. This is free when you have the Silver package but not free when you have the Family package. Sooo... when I lowered my bill 3 people supposedly didn't see this charge for the last few months. So I asked to take it off, I called back a few days later it was still on there... Now I let them turn my cable off cause I will never give them another penny... I am going with Verizon...
They mess up billing very often and charge you more than promised. When you call they claim not to know what was promised and are downright rude. Worst customer service reps. Company obviously doesn't care. You can waste so much time on cablevision and pay sky prices for very little product.
Recently lost my internet service with cablevision. Called Technical support, they said problem was with ethernet card or cable, they insisted problem was with my equipment, and cable modem as working fine. I go out and spend $700 for new computer, only to have this one not be able to connect also. Call support, guess what? Modem is not working properly. I tell themhow unhappy I am with their service, if they value my business, make it worth my while to stay. Throw me a friggin bone, Free HBO or anthing. Best they could do is give me a one time credit for $20. They don't value my business and I will change my service first chance I get.

Cablevision has been charging their customers an additional charge if you have more that two boxes.in my case I have three but they are already charging me for the 3 boxes in which i'm paying 19.50. Then they add an additional fee and call it "additional set" at 5.00 per month. When you call to question this bill-they tell you its a surcharge for a third box, but does not say this on the bill.
This company is terrible I tried to order IO with the DVR box. They said they mailed it but I never received it. That was on Dec 30,2006. Now I received my new bill and they are billing me $80.12 for service of the box that I never received! I called for the third time and they said they gave me credit for the $29.95 for IO, BUT the problem is I still have to pay more now then I did before I ever called and ordered IO! When I talked to the customer service guy he could not explain the increase of $.90 more then I have paid for all the years I had just basic cable. I asked to speak to a supervisor and they said they would have one call me. That was three days ago what a terrible company they really feel they have a monopoly on TV service. I am looking into direct TV now.
Ordered service @ $29.95 each after install package changed to $39.95 cable, $29.95 each internet & voice bill went from $103 as quoted to $122 per mo. mail U no bill & when I inquired I was told they changed the price & U existing customer, which is not stated NO where on ads - asked when did price change NOBODY knew - FALSE ADVERTISEMENT.
I'm very displeased what Cablevision did to the N.J. and N.Y. customers. What I plan and advise everyone is to file a complaint with the Board of Public Utilities, (BPU) in your state. In New Jersey, go to www.nj.gov and you'll see a list from A-Z. click onto communications anyou will see Cable. In the same page you'll see File A Complaint. Give them your story and pass it to others who do not like this deal. I know I don't when it was always free along with my package. I'm going to file my complaint 02/07/2011 to make sure that they receive this during business days.
First it was HGTV now it's our local ABC channel...something HAS GOT TO BE DONE ABOUT CABLEVISION. They don't give us viewers the courtesy of telling us until we find out from the network that they're threatening to cancel and we are paying for their so called service. I do not have the luxury of being able to choose either satellite or FIOS so basically I am stuck. But seriously, the FCC or the State has got to step in. I would like to see more than one Cable company being offered in towns and then let's see how they treat us!
Cablevision advertised a Free I-Pod touch or a $200 cash rebate for becoming a new customer in their Triple Play Offer. I was told that after making three payments that I would receive my I-Pod which I selected at the time I signed with them Now I am being told that the offer was only for signing up for their Phoine and Internet and does not include Their Triple Play Option. I complained to the Company and was told they would investigate my complaint which by the way was made over a month ago without any response. Stay away fronm Cablevision if posible., Horrible Customer Service.

Optimum pulled this excessive billing SCAM on hundreds of Senior citizens and now it's affecting tens-of-thousands of tri-state consumers.
Remember Optimum'$ advertisement "join today and get a $300 Amazon Gift card" = Bait and Switch SCAM. The FCC & FTC are investigating.
It's time for the FCC FTC NYSDOCA (I'd include the FBI but that's LOL) to prosecute OPTIMUM for DECEPTION, BAIT AND SWITCH, EXCESSIVE BILLING and make Optimum the new Bud Light.

In the midst of the Didital switch Cablevision found another way of their existing customers pay more. Instead of increasing their already high rates, they now have removed access to approximately 20 formerly inclusive changes that were originally part of the basic offering (such as Lifetime, BET, AMC, SCFI, Animal Planet, etc). If you want to receive these delted channels you have to buy a cable box for all the TVs in the house incurring additional "monthly rental fees" for digital cable boxes, HD digital cable boxes or CableCARDs on each TV. So, now customers are having to pay extra if they want the channels that used to be included in the base price. Note, they are not giving and fee reduction in this loss of service..
Cablevision upgraded me to their IO Digital Cable Service in July 2005. They came and replaced my analog set-top box with a digital box. I did not check my bills closely enough for the following six months, until I noticed in January 2006 that they were actually billing me for two set-top boxes. A minor expense, but still an additional $5 per month for the phantom box. This is the second time I've had this kind of trouble with Cablevision. Last time they tried to upsell me something, the sales person offered me free bundled HBO permanently. Turns out it was only free for one month. I should record every conversation I have with them.
I tried Cablevision because their monthly cost would have been much less than my current FIOS bill. After 2 days I realized I had made a grave mistake. The picture quality is awful. Their internet speed in 1.4 that of Verizons and now they won't call me back to remove the service. Their personal customer service rep Manuel [protected] promised me the sun and moon but now tells me to call Verizon if I want any help.
I wish I had read the many poor reviews this company has gotten online prior to this but I did not. They truly deserve their awful reputation.
STAY AWAY FROM CABLEVISION.
Here's an idea for you...STOP with the FULL PAGE ads & the TV COMMERCIALS about your troubles with Scripps! Put that money towards bringing back HGTV! There are only SIX channels I watch! Now there are only FOUR! IF you don't bring them back, then you need to REFUND us customers! I'm willing to PAY MORE to get them back! In the mean time I' m going to have to research getting ANOTHER Cable supplier i.e. Fios, Disk, etc.
I wanted to install their 5 ip address system, which allows you to have each of 5 computers on a separate IP address.
This was advertised on TV. I called the sales person, and he promised a working system for a reasonable price for the service. When the technician arrived, he could not get it to work on computer 1. He called for help. A second technician arrived, and got it to work on 2 computers. I had a router, and had internet on all devices from Verizon. But this technician could not get the internet to work on all 5 devices, as promised in teh commercial.
He told me to call my IT department. I am a small business, so I asked for instructions. He handed me a card, with no information that was 3 by 5 with some hand written IP addresses, and he said "I assume you know how to set this up!". He told me this was my problem and wanted to leave.
I told him I needed my internet, as my business would lose money without it, and to no avail. He said this was not his problem.
I told him to pull out the service. He walked out pissed, and he left the equipment there.
I asked the company to remove the equipment. It took them a week, and in between they came to the house and pulled out m yTV cable system!
I called customer service, and they said I would not have to pay on week 1. On week 2 they said I had to pay $100, and on week 3 they sent me to collections for a $300 installation fee. For a service that was installed no longer than 10 minutes!
I had no choice but to pay as they were collecting. They were rude and nasty on the phone, they recorded their own rudeness with my permission!
Weeks went by, and they still promised but did not deduct the charge.
I sent them a letter, to no avail. They were also trying to charge me a monthly service even though I had no equipment and service!
Their residential service turned out to be also as bad. We had it for a month and a half. In that time, our favorite programs were not recorded, and there were so many interruptions. When we called for help, they had us reboot the DVR, over and over and over again. WE missed an entire set of episodes. They had given us this DVR for free as an incentive to subscribe, but they could not support it. Also, there were few channels, and movies were pretty expensive.
We finally switched to a Dish type service, and so far, we haven't missed a single episode or spend time calling them up to reboot the DVR.
I am so aggravated with the whole business service, it was worth paying the money just so I never have to call them again! I cringe when I see their truck.
What was funny, is that at the end of all these calls, after asking you to record them, they asked you to give them a review of the call. They asked questions that had nothing to call with the real service, only with the agent.
They don't want to know what is wrong with their service, so I guess that is why "collections" is their last resort.
I called the popular internet company Verizon. In 1 hour, they had me on fast internet with no problem. Nobody came to the house, I plugged the modem in and it worked. Wireless, router, everything included with no expense. Not a bad deal.
Live and learn.
I am bothering to write this because I called them at least 10 times, and they promised not to charge me the $300, only to get a collections call. That's not right.
$300 for 10 minutes of non working Internet service. They have a record of this whole mess.

I've had cablevision... From the very beginning... I've had trouble with them...
1) when I sign up... The rep told me a certain price, then when I got my bill it was a higher price... This went on for over a year and still going on... I've tried to resolve it with them.. Even contacting bbb... No results... Recently, I order optium triple play... And I did not know it was part of cablevision... Again... I having a big billing problem with them... And it's only been 4 weeks...
The next day after getting it install... I call to find out why they are charging me $131... When I call they toold me my new bill was now! $168 dollars. I'm going to cancel my order and take them to small claims court... Maybe, just maybe the judge can decide what's right... They quoted triple paly would be $99 with tax $103... I was prorated because I had it installed on the 9th of jan.. Their billing cycle starts on the 15th..
After the tech left he handed me a bill for $131 and when I call to see why it was so much... On the phone auto service they said the bill was $168 dollars... Now they are saying my bill is $229.. And I just got service jan 9, 2008.

Halloween 2022 I cancelled EVERYTHING but internet and they were charging me for a phone so I was complaining for months finally someone helped n I found out I was also paying for basic cable they only credited me 114 dollars for a year when internet is supposed to be 59.99(with their Bs fees about 80) I've been paying 150 a month they proceed to tell me it's $123 for just Internet and I'm basically screwed for almost 1k dollars they knew what they were doing by not telling me exactly what I was paying for. And they're the only service provider in my area.
All services have been down or very spotty from 6/29/23. Optimum keeps sending texts and emails stating the outage has been resolved when it's not. This is a horrible company, a bunch of inept liars.

I got hired on to a work from home job that I started in January 2023, was fired in April 2023. I discovered unexplained charges on an account, had 3 managers probe the account, spent 3 freakin' hours trying to find the source of the charges on the account. I just wrote the Attourney General a fraud complaint submission in West Virginia because I was working for a 3rd party call center named Startek that had just barely started providing service to Optimum/Altice USA as a client. I was removed from the phones I think the day after I handled that specific account and told to sit and wait and learn stuff in our database and was paid for a full week of not working pretty much while the 'looked for a reason to fire me' < per my manager and was fired. It was the client Optimum/Altice USA that had my employer remove me from the phones. I saw several instances of customers not being allowed to escalate their calls when there are complex billing matters taking place and refusal to troubleshoot and investigate these types of claims. I placed my complaint with the Attourney General of West Virginia because technically my employer was Startek. Optimum/Altice USA is outsourcing to offshore call centers as well. I feel like something I been seeing recently with myi 9 years of call center work is that the companies that are doing this offshore hiring seem to be doing it so they can evade escalating calls and because these people tend to be job scared and will do whatever and don't know about US call center policies and aren't really trying to resolve customer complaints and it's probably because they lose money when they investigate complaints about incorrect billing BECAUSE THE BILLING IS INCORRECT. I think customers give up and lose funds but when this is happening at a mass scale that is thousands of dollars being embezzled and people need to start holding these call centers accountable that are doing this stuff. My understanding is that according to United States call center law, call centers are legally required to allow customers to escalate their calls. A lot of these call centers are also starting to play this game of 'my supervisor is not available I can have them call you back' and that is a flat out lie. They're trying to avoid investigating these claims. When I was with Optimum/Altice I had a lady very upset on the phone telling me that they are billing her hundreds of dollars for a wifi router that she had turned in, in store that was not accounted for properly. She called numerous times and Optimium/Altice refused to help her. I attempted to help by forcing the call to our escalations team which is part of why I got fired. I don't know if she got the help she needed but I doubt it. The customer that I had 3 managers probing his account, they had me tell him to call back. We were unable to identify where the charges came from and I couldn't force this call to escalate because they had shut off my permissions on the phones to escalate calls because I was getting a lot of upset customers with messed up things going on with their accounts that I did not have the means to resolve and was escalating the calls to help these customers. This should have been a red flag to Optimum/Altice that something is going on with how accounts are being handled but instead they fired me over it and it really seemed with some of the messaging I was getting internally that they know this is going on and don't want it dealt with. That's fraud, I think it's deliberate and someone inside is doing shady things and trying to hide it. Please, if you are running into issues getting your billing complaints handled, file a report at least.

That's what they are doing to me! This optimum guy came harassed me to get internet. Swore up and down it would be free due to the pandemic. I told him I. Roke I get public assistance he swore it would be free. The tv says that the internet $30 a month I'm getting charges $60 plus a $10 late fee every month because I don't get my public assistance til the beginning of the month and they know this. Optimum like loan sharks shaking people who don't have money for money. They have sales representatives walking around stealing people's information. I want all my money back they owe me. It's suppose to be $30 a month they owe me $40 a month since I've. Been paying over the price since the day their representative lied to me. Where is the petition I'll sign I want to sue optimum too. Optimum needs to be sued by all of us they owe all of use money. The government should take notice on the fact optimum is straight robbing people. The internet is constantly going in and out and unable to stream tv shows and movies. This is also always happens constantly and I pay for this service for this not to happen. I have Wi-Fi through only half the house and I work From home.
I've received a Optimum reward card that is invalid i/or scam. I'm mailing copies of thru mail. REVENUE CYCLE
SERVICE CENTER-CINCINNATI, OHIO is address mailed from. January 12,2023 received. Activated same week. Denied at register Jan. 13 with zero balance. Activation showed $100.
