My bills are getting higher unexplainable
I would like to file a complaint about Central Hudson billing - my bills are getting higher as months become warmer ,and less electrucity is used to hear the house .
The bill that I received this month was estimated $1279, after submitting actual reading it became $629. All winter long , it was in $260 in average !
Calling them is a waste of time , they don’t take any responsibility , and suggest to get every audit .
My billing history doesn’t probe anything to them .

I just recieved 5 bills today from central Hudson most of them over 2000.00 from 2021 2022 and 2023. I never missed a bill. I called they said it was because I didn’t pay bills and because Ambient energy stopped and that makes no sense my bills are never over 250.00 and they give me all kinds of amounts also on the estimate bills they were always over 100.00 dollars more than the months they come and read so I started taking pictures and sending them in and of course my bills were lower what can I do

Central Hudson took $786 out of my bank yesterday. I’m on budget paying of $390 a month. I’ve called twice and they don’t help, they don’t bother to investigate and then say someone will call in 7-10 days! I need that money now! They’re claiming it’s because I owe back payments when in fact I have the email proof that they canceled my payments for February, December, and October stating I had a zero balance and they’re trying to say that I canceled those payments! I would never cancel payments and I’m the only one authorized on my account.
Desired outcome: I want my over payment returned to my bank account
Electric Cost
My wife and I are Senior Citizens on a fixed income. Our Central Hudson bills have been averaging $150 a month prior to Fortus. Now our electric bills have been $3,000 a month to $6,000 a month. This is ridiculous. I am in my 70's and how many years do I have left. Any Central Hudson employees on our property will be shot on sight. How can we let a SCUM BAG COMPANY like FORTUS screw us over and get away with it. Remember if you show up to shut off our electric, you will be leaving in an ambulence.
Desired outcome: We need to throw this Canuck company out of America and return to our old rates.
Billing
I am writing to you as a consumer of service for over 20 years. I have never received such outrageous fees for gas and electric consumption. I want to challenge 2021 and 2022 billing for account, [[protected]].
Billing during these years represent fees far outside my normal use. I understand that Central Hudson is being investigated as they should be. I am out of my home most of the day at work and my heat is turned off. I freeze to death because I am afraid to turn on the heat when I come home because I can’t afford it. That is why I am confused as to why my bill is over $200.
This is an outrageous act of disloyalty by Central Hudson to customers who use your service. We, the consumer has little choice but to use your company. I have a couple of friends who work there and said the new billing system is a mess and the trainers, don’t know how the system works or can explain how to use it to bill the public. This is now my problem and it is costing me. Central Hudson has zero credibility with me.
I would ask that a complete audit of 2021 and 2022 bills for the referenced account, be provided to me. Particularly from October – December or 2021/22. Once you look at the bills and see how I was overcharged, please mail my refund to the address you mail the bill. I should receive a refund for excessive billing practices by your company and incompetency while continuing to bill. Please note that I pay by check and I protest the bill on each check.

My energy bill has skyrocketed by over $1000 which is unheard of and absolutely impossible. We do not leave lights on we do not have the heat over 69 degrees. We have solar lights or rechargeable lights to light the inside and most rooms. We have cut every corner on saving power and it's gone up at least $400 each time. I have requested help since our last bill was $751 and this bill is $1531. These bills are absolutely impossible to reach especially since we are currently living in a cold dungeon and impossible to keep paying. I feel as though I'm being taken advantage of and they are monopolizing on supply. What do I do?

I am writing to you as a consumer of service for over 65 years. I have never in this time received such outrageous fees for gas and electric consumption. I want to challenge 2 years of billing, [protected]. Billing during these years represent fees far outside my normal use. I understand that Central Hudson is being investigated and I will retain the services of my son, a practicing attorney for over 35 years here in the city of Poughkeepsie. My deceased husband practiced for almost 65 years.

Meter reading and previous year usage
Central Hudson (CU) doesn’t consistently make reading resulting in fraudulent charges. To go for several months without reading my actual meter and then to back charge me (especially after your prices have increased 3 fold) should be illegal. Also I’m a renter and the application of applying the previous year’s usage should as well be illegal (especially if I didn’t live in the apartment a year ago). I am currently trying to catch up on a $700 bill that I can’t meet and am falling behind on even though I try to use no utilities.
Desired outcome: Relief or assistance from excessive past due bills. I’m retired and am on a fixed income (social security with a small pension) and am unable to pay or make up $700/800 .
Stop charging "late fees"
I never receive a bill until past the due date & I use an e-bill, this has happened several times. I go to my bank every day & even as of 11/30 nothing, this am 12/1, past due; bill due on the 11/28, again, no notifications, always get "new" bill when past due. People are struggling & they will charge a late fee!, that is out of a persons control when they DON'T get the bill until the after the due date, that is thievery
Desired outcome: when they don't even send the bill out until "past" due. being owed. My other bills always let me know, when, how much is due, weeks prior.

I was placed on budget billing since January and since January I have requested to be removed from budget billing every month - still on it. Help!

Inherited an empty shed/shack - new service - suddenly a $2000+ bill
Hi, I just took over an account on an old building that sits empty most of the time, no toilet, water turned off, no heat at the building. The only thing that can be turned on are lights. Refrigerator is also turned off. No outdoor lights either.
I just looked into the house last week and filled up a dumpster with garbage.
Steve Ladin, the former owner, had this house rented to people with and RV, and I assume the usage was from them to heat the RV.
As I am not responsible for this back amount, I want the charges removed.
I have been on the phone now for hours to get a person on speak and who has some authority. I need help to have this resolved.

How my electric bill can go from $800.00 dollars last month where I paid my installment of $235.00
To OVER $1500.00 this month is completely obnoxious. Where is the class action against this company as I will sign - they have taken gross advantage of the residents in the Hudson Valley for as long as I have had my house - most famous terrible company in New York - they did not bill us for 4 months and then we all got a jumble of costs - I want them sued over and over.

electric service
I have received 3 bills in the last month: $117.93, $248.57, $131.67. I live alone in a 1500 sq. ft. house so there's no way I use $498.17 in ONE MONTH! I spoke to a CH representative and she agreed that some of the charges from 2021 were already paid and to ignore them, but there they are, right on my bill as if I owe them. Because I am a stage 4 cancer survivor I can't afford to have my electric shut off so I just pay the entire bill so I casn continue to use the machines necessary for my survival.
I feel like I am being robbed and/or I am paying someone else's electric bill as well as my own. I have no problem with any of my other services - internet, phone, TV, waste management, streaming services, etc., only Central Hudson is making my life very difficult and they can't seem to get their house in order. Everyone I know has negative feeling and experiences with Central Hudson.
Desired outcome: I would like to see another corporation take over the entire Central Hudson operation. I also need an actual, accurate bill of my electric usage and I should receive only ONE bill per month as my other services provide.
Overbilling, non-reading of meters.
Central Hudson is by far the worst public utility operating in the northeast.
They do not visit to take actual meter readings and then send us a bill for almost $6000... yes you read that right.
Our normal electricity bill for over 5 years was on average between $170-190.
Our meter is not read for 5 consecutive months and we get a bill for $5995.
We have a huge array of solar panels generating approximately 34KW of electricity for which we have received $0 credit.
I have written to our congressman and the better business bureau and five times to Central Hudson and he has informed me that we are not alone in our dissatisfaction with CH.
Unfortunately they are a monopoly and do not care about their customers.
Desired outcome: Would like to have someone from Central Hudson visit our broken meter and straighten out our account.
new service
I am appalled at the process to get service turned on. I know if I don't pay my bill the service will be off the same day but God forbid, I try and get new service. Last week after sitting on hold for 40 minutes I finally got thru to a rep gave them the new address and all the billing information. They advised I needed an electrical inspector to inspect before they can turn service on. Ok. I got one. He sent the report over on February 6th. I called Central Hudson they advised service can be connected on Feb. 14th! Great. Well Feb. 14th came and went and no service. On the 15th I called back now 40 minutes on hold to be told They don't have the inspection. I then call the inspector back and asked him to resend it. He advised he would send it right away. I then attempted to call Central Hudson after waiting 40 minutes I decided to opt for a call back which I received 6 hours later when I was at work and unable to take the call. So here I sit now on Feb. 17th after speaking to a very nice young lady at 452-2000 customer service she adv they have the inspection since Feb 6th! and they have the ok to turn the service on. I asked when it would be turned on and she advised I would have to speak to another department and transferred me. after waiting 20 minutes someone picked up and hung up. SO I called back and after 45 minutes on hold ( hey maybe its time to do sdome hiring Central Hudson!) I finally got a rep named Courtney who ACTUALLY knew her job. When she needed to put me on hold she actually checked back often so I didnt think she left me to rot or that she forgot about me! She was able to tell me service will be turned on on the 22nd of Feb which I think is absurd since they had everything they needed on Feb. 6th! I had contacted Central Hudson through the website and got an automated message letting me know that it would be 5-7 days for a reply..really?! I also emailed every corporate big wig whose email address I could find. I am sure I will never hear from them. SO will I get service on the 22nd? stay tuned. Should be interesting.

loss of frozen food
After covid I started buys beef and chicken. I spent well over 4400. dollars on it all. Now no electric for 2.5 days... my freezer didn't keep the food frozen. Freezer is 2 yrs old... how do I put in a claim for this loss ? I don't have receipts for my weekly purchases to stock pile incase the government shuts us down again. This is not a homeowners insurance issue... it's Central Hudsons issue...
Tree service disregard for other wires
On February 31, 2017 the tree service used by Central Hudson cut a tree along the power line Knowing one of the tree branches was going to cut the telecom line to 12 Valley View Road. The tree service did not alert us before or after, nor did they communicate with the telephone company. When confronted by me, thier response was that it was not their problem. I got the same response from the Central Hudson Customer Service line. Central Hudson demonstrated complete disregard for their customers.
Horrible Customer Service
CH knows that they have no competition in this area and they treat their customers like inconveniences. They had me on hold over a half hour last night just to get a message that they were closing and I could try again later. Today, they had me on hold for over an hour to tell me they'd send a representative sometime today. "Sometime" and I should be happy...
