On or about August 31, I used Checkpeople, LLC, with the understanding I would be charged a one time fee of $1.00. It has recently come to my attention that I have been getting charged monthly since then a fee of $39.85 per month for a total of 40 months. I was not aware my one time search for the price of $1.00 connected me to a subscription. I feel they need to reimburse my money as this is clearly theft. They should not be allowed to charge a card given without further inquiring if services are still requested or required.

As I note many complaints the same as mine: I accepted a one-time 99 cent charge for info. The info was way win correct for that person! Then I find I am charged the monthly membership charge, unknown until second charge, called and complained, resolution was that this months charge was lowered from 29.17 to 9.99 and nothing else could be done. Was told call had to be ended. Scam

Terrible and predatory practice at best. It was not explained that it was a monthly recurring charge and was informed it was in the 10 page terms and I didn't even get what I was looking for or any information at all

I was charged $8.99 from this business which I did not authorize. I clicked the no button to decline this payment for additional services and I was charged anyways. Now this company will not refund my money which was an error on their website

Checkpeople I signed up for a self check

I signed up for a self check. All I wanted was a work background check. I did not have 1 job listed. Not one. They gave me a ton of information in which 1/4 of it was not related to me. So not only did I not get what I wanted quite a bit of the information belonged to others. Monetary figures were all incorrect or did not apply to me. Names I did not recognize. I signed up for the $1.00 and my bank got charged 29.16 and also 6.99. Completely unsatisfactory. If I was actually checking on someone else I can't imagine the amount of false information I was getting.

SCAM! They secretly charged me $29.17/month for six months! Do NOT use this service! Cancelling the "subscription" is a nightmare! They only refunded me one month's worth of charges that they stole from me. STAY AWAY!

I've found my personal information on this site using just a *** search with only my phone # -- it showed personal relatives names and previous living locations! I have filed the opt-out form and have also had to have a service personally remove information were they stated company was unresponsive. Would like to get my information taken down immediately from this site! Thank you.

Checkpeople They charged my card for the subscription right away

They charged my card for the subscription right away. There was no free trial. When I called they said it's not a real charge. IF it's not a real charge, why was it deducted from my account balance? They also charged another fee for the PDF but didn't say anywhere that there was an additional charge. Don't use this site unless you want them to take your money. The report also wasn't completed and missed vital info about an arrest. Customer service is overseas and totally scripted. Basically said there was nothing they can do. I also can't log into the account, just bad all around

I have been trying to opt out my information, unsuccessfully! I have obtained a public records exemption for my safety and welfare, and no one seems concerned at this company. I have reported to my local authorities and lawyer in hopes this can be resolved. All i want is my private and personal information removed that has been unlawfully posted on the internet!

They are very sneaky at getting you to sign up for a subscription and pay more than the $1 trial! If all you want to do is use it once. DON'T get this service as the only way to cancel is to call! I made the mistake after paying for an additional 2 months total waste of money because I did not use it for over a month and only 1 time! NEVER AGAIN! When canceling I was given other offers. I explained No I Have already paid too much!

Checkpeople I signed up and paid the $1.00, but if I wanted to download the file it would cost $29.16

I signed up and paid the $1.00, but if I wanted to download the file it would cost $29.16. I clicked no thinking that was the end. I checked my bank account and saw that I was charged $29.16 - in less than 24 hours! I called the 24/7 customer service. I explained to the woman that I wanted my account cancelled. She tried to get me to stay at a lower monthly price, but I said no, and wanted my money back. She said ok, and would credit my account. She gave me a reference number, that she'd email to me. I'll see in my refund shows up in a couple of days. I should add that our conversation was pleasant.

Their search result rendered no information for my requested information. I was charged for viewing the report. I was not given a refund within 7-day Trial Period upon canceling the trial membership. Their Site is very misleading and charge to view the results. The cancelation process is not indicated on the website and not easy to find. I have not received a response to my email of complaint and request for refund(s). If there are to be charges for viewing the results of the search, it is not a 7-day $1.00 Trial Period.

I asked them to remove my information in May . They responded to my request in an email stating I had to do extra effort to go through their website to request that my data be deleted. Then, when I verify my request on their website linked through the email, I receive this error message: "Unable to retrieve request data. Please re-submit your request again." In other words, they are refusing to follow California law. I will be starting a lawsuit against this company for failure to follow the law.

Checkpeople I was just as surprised as other reviewers that instead of a $1 charge I was charged $29 and change

I was just as surprised as other reviewers that instead of a $1 charge I was charged $29 and change. I seen that the hold said temporary so I knew it wasn't permanent.. but to not be told up front I was furious. I called them and told them I'd like to cancel, and my cancellation went smoothly. They did try to lower the price to $19 and then to $9.99. I politely declined both options and firmly asked to cancel permanently. I got my confirmation number and was told to have a blessed day. I give three stars because I checked my card after I got off the phone and the $29 hold was gone and replaced with the $1 hold.

Checkpeople Signed up for $1 set 5-day trial plan easily cancelled within 5day period

Signed up for $1 set 5-day trial plan easily cancelled within 5day period. Was emailed a receipt for $1 but immediately alerted to a charges of $29.15 and $6.99 from checkpeople.com. I was told the charges were non-refundable even after supplying screen recordings of the sign-up interface where at no point were these fees mentioned or agreed upon. Total scam. Upon calling customer service I was berated and verbally harassed and misgendered after multiple corrections. I've disputed with my bank as this seems the only resolution. Buyer beware- they are scammers and their charges are completely fraudulent in nature.

Checkpeople CheckPeople is displaying my personal information on their website

CheckPeople is displaying my personal information on their website. My first "opt-out" to have my information removed took weeks. Then about a month later CheckPeople displayed my information again and I am attempting, unsuccessfully, to have it removed yet again. CheckPeople displays my age and my address which for me is a security and privacy issue. I am going to contact my state Attorney General and ask for help in dealing with this issue. There must be some law that protects people from this type of invasion of privacy especially in light of possible identity theft and also exposing people to possible home invasion and harm.

Checkpeople Misleading price information

Misleading price information. If I wasn't using a credit card with fraud prevention I wouldn't even have paid. It is clearly not 1.00 for the free trial even if the 29.17 is only a holding charge that was not made clear. The fact that you have to cancel through the phone appears to be a hope that you won't call and they can continue to bill you. I called and canceled immediately and requested a confirmation number and email. I was given the number but told I wouldn't get an email until a day before the free trial ended. Will never ever recommend, use, or stop checking my credit card statement for fraudulent charges that may later come from this 'company'

Checkpeople 0Stars Rating, FRAUD ALERT!

0Stars Rating, FRAUD ALERT! Stay away from CheckPeople.com at all costs, or it will cost You. When scanning out of curiosity I was asked for a credit charge for a $1 charge to continue. Many times I was shown the "Continue" button to search further. No where did I see a price or charge at any time other than the $1 charge which was presented clearly. As soon as I closed the CheckPeople.com site I received a Fraud-Alert from my credit card and then saw 3 unwarranted charges of 29.99, 8.99, and 6.99 had been made. Calling the company represented was told 2 of these fees are non-refundable. Stay away; Do not give any credit card information or you may be on your card's Fraud alert also.

I just signed up for the 5 day free trial, I was charged $6.99; $29.17; $1.00; Ive been using their service for two days into the free trial, I entered a name to search for their background and my account got suspended stating I violated the do's and don't. This is very inaccurate and I sent in a email to support and haven't heard from them. I've read their policy and I did not violate their terms. Remember I have 5 days free to utilize the free service. I called the 800 # and they apologized that they can't help me but informed me that once an account is suspended it usually does not get reactivated. I hope the company sees this message and will fix this clutch in their system. Very frustrating.

After 15 to 25 minutes, they said they had results, NOW they asked how to pay for the report. I would have never wasted my time if I know the site charged any amount So I cancelled out of the site. on 9/2 reviewing my banking account I was charge twice $1 and $29.16, After calling to explain and asking for a refund. I was sent a 'canned' email that in short stated 'I got you, that's how we do things, money is ours'. I'm old and new to all this computer/web site stuff. I am sure there are many more people who have the same thing I did and are paying the price. I am just asking for a WARNING on the site that it is not free, like other sites. This should be the first you see. If I could I would give a -5 rating.

I have used the CheckPeople site for a good while with no complications, but yesterday, when I went to sign on, a message appeared saying that I had violated their terms of usage and had been permanently banned from using it. No reason was given. When I called their customer service number, the agent offered no help and simply said that I had violated their terms of use. When I asked why and what I had done, there was no answer. I submitted an email and received the same reply, no answer, no explanation. They provide a decent service, but their customer relations are abysmal, and another example of computer algorithms governing their clients with no human interaction whatsoever. Very disappointed in this company.

Checkpeople It is partly a scam

It is partly a scam. They do provide some information, but they have hidden charges for everything you click on. I wanted to know the accuracy, so I typed in my own name. Fifty percent of what they showed on my report was not related to me at all, lots of accounts and email addresses that I'd never heard of, many details about my life that never happened. I assume they got my information mixed in with someone else by the same name. It's a hassle to cancel, you can't do it on the website, you have to call. Instead of cancelling my subscription, the man tried 5 times to try to get me to upgrade. He wanted me to upgrade when the reason I called was to cancel? I also found out about all the hidden fees when I cancelled, ended up spending a lot of money, even though I did not find the relevant information I was looking for. Use another service, this is basically a scam.

Checkpeople This place screams rip off artist!

This place screams rip off artist! I called to cancel a subscription for a mentally ill person and they refused. I gave them the name, card number, address and they would not cancel said I gave the wrong address. This person only knows his address. He has a memory issue and only knows this one address HIS and it is the one associated with the card! I asked nicely before going off and giving them a piece of my mind for not stopping this payment coming out of a disabled persons account. We had to call the bank and have his card canceled because he can't afford to pay the stop payment fee and having a new card issued was free. Pretty sad that they are more concerned about making a buck then helping people. BTW the person that opened the account stated he never gave an address. And I believe him. He is one of the most honest people I know. Will never use this site nor recommend to anyone

Checkpeople I signed up for a $1 trail for a background check

I signed up for a $1 trail for a background check. Company claims if you cancel within 3 days you wont be charged the 29 dollars. I called same day and canceled by phone. When I hung up I look on my bank account and noticed that they already charged me 29$. I called and the lady claimed it was a glitch and they refunded the amount. A day later they charged me again 1$ and 2.33. So I call again and she told me again it was a glitch and I get a refund. I asked to have my debit card removed and she claimed she can't do that! Ridiculous! So today I look on my account and find again 3 charges of $2.33. I finally had enough and called my bank and have them blocked from charging my account by putting a "stop payment' on them. But I do have to call again now to get the money back they will more than likely keep charging me because the stop payment takes about 3 business days to kick in. This is fraud and they should be shut down.

Checkpeople I tried to get a background report on myself

I tried to get a background report on myself. When tey reflected the cost, it was $1 special offer good for 9 plus minutes. Also, they indicated there was a one time $6.99 fee for getting reports in PDF format. Although I entered my VISA information 3 times, each time, it was declined. I took a picture of the offer on my computer screen and of the decline notice. I then called my bank. After holding for awhile, my bank informed me that the $6,99 went through and that there was another charge of $29.17 pending. I then called Checkpeople and told them above. I explained that the $6.99 that went through needed returned and that I never authorized $29.17. The customer service representative spoke broken English and was of no assistance. This company is a scam. All they have to do is give you a report for a fee and they want to charge you a fee without disclosing it to you. I would not do business with them under any circumstance.

Checkpeople They bill you almost $30 for a $1 "free" trial, then somehow scam you into clicking something else and charging you an additional $8.99

They bill you almost $30 for a $1 "free" trial, then somehow scam you into clicking something else and charging you an additional $8.99. I had to call twice and was told the first time the $29 something would be reversed, I would only be charged $1 and the subscription would be canceled. As soon as I hung up the phone, the $8.99 charge appeared. I called back again and was told it was a non refundable charge and I could try to dispute it with my bank. But basically said they would send a screen shot of my IP address showing I approved it to my bank. I was then laughed at by the customer service agent. So pretty much, good luck to me. I did not once see anything asking for my approval. I was irate. On top of all of that, half the information was incorrect. Not sure where they get their information from, or don't get it from. Ridiculous site, rude and a rip off scam. Now I'm stuck with charges I didn't agree to and no information.

Because of past identity theft problems I periodically *** myself and attempt to remove myself from the search people sites. If you're into identity theft those sites are a great place to start. You wouldn't believe the information available on some of them. Anyway I've been attempting to remove my information from Checkpeople for 4 months. In August after you filled out the opt out option they would send you a confirmation email in which the opt out button was literally hidden in the email. You had to scroll a very long time to the right to find the button. After I complained to some useless federal government agency - they have no power to regulate these vultures - they changed the opt out button. You could find it but they just ignored your request. Recently they've gotten even cuter. They send you an email denying your request to have your information deleted. I've had problems with these sites putting my info back on after deleting it but I've never had this problem. This company is the worst.

Checkpeople My wife is seriously ill with advanced cancer

My wife is seriously ill with advanced cancer. She was in the hospital over the Christmas and New Years. On Dec 31, I noticed 3 unauthorized charges on my Debit Card (12/23, 12/24 and 12/31). I immediately contacted CheckPeople via telephone. I provided several types of information to allow them to look into the situation (name, dates and amounts of charges, zip code, first and last 4 numbers of debit card). I was told that they did not show me as ever signed up for service and they could not find any charges to my account. They did admit that the three charges were indicative of charges they would make. The person on the phone told me to send an email with screen shots of the actual charges. I did this and heard nothing back. Finally when I complained that they had not responded, I received a terse email that said they could not resolve the issue (more like would not). No explanation...zero...take it up with your bank. I will be contacting my congressman, the Complaintsboard.com, ***, etc to ensure they know about this disreputable and unresponsive business. I knew I hadn't contacted them regarding service as I was in the Emergency Room and Hospital almost continuously over the time period of these charges.

Checked my bank account, I was charged 4 separate times by this company, I nor my mom have ever used their services, but somehow they have our debit card number, after a while of talking on the phone and getting nowhere with them, they suggested I email customer service, oh and they wanted to see a screenshot of the charges, the emailing got nowhere, BECAUSE I or MY MOM DONT HAVE AN ACCOUNT, because we've never used their services.. they keep asking for more and more information, which im hesitant to give, because they already have too much of my info.. they couldnt find an account with my first and last name, my moms first and last name, our email addresses and the last 4 digits of the card in question! SO long story short, I'm unsure if i'll get my money back, they seem super hesitant to just refund the STOLEN money, this all seems super sketchy and riddled with fraud, upon reading other complaints on here that's exactly the same as mine! My mom and I had to change our card number, AFTER YEARS of no problems, it seems this company is getting over on people during a time of hardships and when people have received their stimulus payments.. I hope this is resolved rather quickly with this company, so use extreme caution with this company.

Checkpeople Charged for a 3-day service without PDF option and incurred unexpected fees

Purchased a 3 day service WITHOUT the PDF option but was charged multiple unexpected fees. Also charged an auto renew without acknowledgement. On 07/23 I purchased through the web, a 3 day person locating service at 4.99 to be charged one time. I paid with an online payment method. That day I was charged 4.99 and an additional 2.33 for an unselected 'upcharge'. On 07/26 I was charged 29.16 and another 2.33 and on 07/27 another 2.33. I called on 07/26 to inquire and was apologized to, refunded, and had the service cancelled. I called on 08/01 and was incorrectly informed that I had selected an upcharge for PDF document availability, which I had not, and was told no refund was possible for the overage. I specifically opted out of that option on the 23rd. During my call on the 1st, I questioned further charges post-cancellation and was told mobile orders don't show contracts. I am disputing: 1. The auto renewal not shown in any mobile contract. 2. The 'upcharge' of three payments of 2.33 on the specified dates. 3. The charge for an auto renewal not presented during sign-up. 4. The refusal to refund the three payments of 2.33 without my authorization and the claim that mobile orders don't display agreements. This suggests a scam by the company, leveraging hidden charges and denying refunds.

Checkpeople This site won't remove my personal information including my current address from their website even though it puts my life in danger

This site won't remove my personal information including my current address from their website even though it puts my life in danger. I originally put in a request to opt out of having my information on the website on 8/18 and followed up with an email to s***@checkpeople.com with a written request and my California Secretary of State Safe at Home Program information to verify that they must legally remove my information from the site as a Safe at Home participant according to California Government code Section 6208.1. Knowing my life is at risk is causing my significant anxiety and is interfering with my life. Timothy *** responded to the email on 8/19 telling me the normal opt out procedure. I responded to him on 8/19 asking him to forward my email and attached supporting documents to the legal department and he responded on 8/20 saying "We will get that handled as soon as possible." My personal information is still posted on the site without my consent and it is putting my life at risk, causing me massive undue stress and anxiety and other detriment to my life. I have to move out of my apartment now, too. I called the customer service phone number on 8/27 and the representative would not help me. She would not remove my information, would not let me talk to a supervisor without purchasing an account on the website, and was completely unhelpful. She said the only thing I could do is email s*** again. This is serious- the information they publish can put people's lives at risk. As a domestic violence survivor in California I'm a member of the Safe at Home program, and my information legally must be removed for my safety. I shouldn't have to worry about if I'm going to be killed and go to extreme measures to try to protect my safety just because CheckPeople.com doesn't feel like removing my address from their website after I provide documentation of my membership in the Safe at Home program and California Government code Section 6208.1.

Checkpeople On or around November 27, I came across an ad that offered A background check (single) for $1.00

On or around November 27, I came across an ad that offered A background check (single) for $1.00. I looked over the fine print and did not notice any additional charges or enrollment. I did a background check on myself and thought that was it. The following day I noticed a charge of $6.99 and on November 29, I noticed the advertised charge of $1.00. Then on December 5, there was another charge of $29.17. Anywhere from a week to two weeks I contacted them and explained the situation and told them since I was not aware that I enrolled in anything to please cancel my subscription. I was told that they would cancel it but that I agreed to the additional $6.99 for some pdf add-on and that it plainly stated that I would be enrolled in their service so I must have agreed to that also. I mentioned to the girl that would not make sense that I would enroll to pull that one, single background report, I just wanted to see what was out there in my name. She told me since that it was plainly stated and I went through with the order that she would be happy to cancel my subscription but could not refund my account. After that, my daughter came down with COVID...and then her father and I did also. After that, there were some other health issues and I am just getting back to dealing with this. Just to verify there were no more charges I looked at my bank withdrawals and noticed that there was a charge on January 5, 2022, and also February 5, 2022. After reading several of the other complaints it does not seem that their "plainly stated" small print is as plain as they think it is being that many others have had the same issue. I have not used their service a single time aside from the report on myself that I was under the impression was $1.00. I do not feel that I should have to pay the additional $94.50 because of their duplicitous, on the verge of unethical business practice. If that is not what was intended then why not put it in straightforward, noticeable text?

Checkpeople Highly deceptive, fraudulent website

Highly deceptive, fraudulent website. Overcharged and charged 3 times. Never received what I was charged for. On 12/17, I unfortunately checked this website to find an address. All throughout the process, the price posted in large bold lettering at the top of each page was $1.00. But first I was charged $29.16 (never mentioned *anywhere*), then $6.99 (barely visible in microscopic type at the bottom of a page; I didn't see it until a split second after I clicked the button to get the report that I thought I was paying $1 for). I immediately clicked back out of that page while it was still processing, but was charged for $29.16, $6.99, and later $1.00 even though I never received the address. My bank had sent me a fraud alert by text while this was happening, though I didn't see it until right after I backed out of the site, and I confirmed by text that it was fraud. It had the $29.16 (apparently for unlimited lookups for a month) and $6.99 (apparently unlimited PDF reports for a month) charges listed. I then called my bank's Fraud Prevention at their request and reported it verbally too. They immediately closed my credit card account. I then called Checkpeople to complain. I insisted they close my account immediately (he said they would) and a guy said they would refund the $29.16 (though he tried to get me to keep the service at about half that price--still NO!) I do not have any proof that they canceled my account or submitted a refund of the $29.16. He refused to do anything about the other monthly charge for $6.99, which is BS since I do not have the other monthly service. I just wanted one address for $1.00. If that had been honest and not a complete scam, I'd have happily paid the $1, but I got NO info. I still have no info. I no longer want to do business with any of these "services" again. I'd rather live in ignorance. I miss the days when you could find addresses free. The next day, by the way, the jerks charged me an additional $1.00, which was declined because I had closed my card.

Checkpeople SCAM / FRAUD !

SCAM / FRAUD ! - Bilking consumers. Multiple unauthorized charges to our checking account, for a service we NEVER subscribed to! Basically the same complaint as individual on 12/21! Except these series of unauthorized charges have now HAPPENED TWICE, 6 months apart (for a total of 5 unauthorized charges.) We will be changing card numbers. There is no way we would ever solicit or sign-up for background check services. Ever! This company used our card number to enroll into a monthly subscription which we never authorized or agreed to! In fact, never heard of this company before. They charge small odd amounts to avoid detection. The company appears to be a haven and enabler of fraud and scams. Complicit by lack of fundamental fraud controls to protect your average joe out there. Never once did we ever received a notification (via phone, text, email, etc.) that someone (either an employee of this company, or an external fraudulent user) used our card number to apply unauthorized charges. Again, WE never signed-up or subscribed to their services! This company does little to nothing to deter scammers and fraudulent users, as evident by two separate series of charges six months apart. For anyone reading this, our recommendation is to cancel your card, and have a new number issued from your bank or credit union, as they appear to not stop. They just pause until you think it has been resolved, then they go back to their scamming ways). Is it coincidence that both series occurred just before and around the holidays (when most people may not notice unauthorized charges?). There is a troubling pattern here. Jun 5, 2020(-$29.16) - Undetected. To date, charges haven't been reversed. Jun 10, 2020 (-$1.00) - Undetected. To date, charges haven't been reversed. Jul 3, 2020 ($-29.16) - Detected the fraud & reported to credit union. Charged reversed on Jun 5, 2020 (per below). Jul 7, 2020 (+$29.16) - Credit voucher received for just Jul 3, unauthorized charge. Nov 23, 2020 (-$22.56) - Undetected AGAIN! Dec 23, 2020 (-$22.56) - Detected AGAIN!

Checkpeople Scam site

Scam site. Deceptive web design. I saw the link to see my report was $1, so I gave my card to get the report, expecting to be charged 1 dollar. I could understand tax, or some other fee, and fully expected to be told of such fees before being charged. That is not what I experienced at all. I saw a what appeared to be a bunch of small reports I expected to fill out if I clicked on them. I did and they did not. I looked down to see a link to a .pdf. I figured that the links were not working, but the .pdf is a file and that will work. I clicked the link and it took me to my "dashboard" after flashing something at the bottom of the browser window about a charge. I went to my bank site and found I'd been charged $29 and $6.99, but not 1 dollar as stated. I want to report that there was no obvious warning that I was about to be charged for clicking on the .pdf link (which did not download a .pdf, btw, but only took me to the dashboard), which I did quickly with the understanding that any time I am about to be charged money, I would have to agree to the amount. Emailing support, they said I had to either accept the $6.99 charge, but the button reads in large, very readable letters, "CONTINUE... YES, I WANT PDF REPORT ACCESS!". It does NOT say, "I AGREE TO PAY $6.99 FOR PDF REPORT ACCESS!", and that is what the button assumes I am doing. There is no business in the world that can take the card I place in front of me, and charge it without my clearly seeing they are taking the card and charging it. My entering card data is not the same as agreeing to be charged until I decide how my money is spent. Had I placed my card on a table and a businessman reached for it to process a charge without telling me what I was being charged, I would immediately withdraw my consent to be charged until I knew both the value of the product and the cost. The button only asked if I wanted to "CONTINUE..." to .pdf access. I suspect the popup either took the previous click action as acceptance, or it was a ruse. Site design is very deceptive. I understand databases cost money, but deception a valid solution. Please see the button I clicked on in the file provided.

Checkpeople Was billed for 3 month subscription, when I only agree to a single background check which was advertised as "free" with the option to subscribe

Was billed for 3 month subscription, when I only agree to a single background check which was advertised as "free" with the option to subscribe. On Oct. 3rd 2020 I submitted for one and only one "free" background check. I received one email from them giving me a temporary password. No other emails were ever received. On Oct. 5th my credit card was billed for $1 which I assumed was simply verifying my credentials. Their website clearly states "The best part is that CheckPeople lets you start your background check search for free! If you like our services, you can upgrade to a monthly subscription and get access to an unlimited number of background searches." I never used their services after that first background check. My credit card was billed three times for $29.16 on Oct 9th, Nov. 9th, and Dec. 9th. We contacted them by phone on Dec. 9th at which time they agreed to cancel the alleged subscription, but only refund the $29.16 for December. Later on December 9th I contacted them again to point out what was stated on their website. Their website is a play on words, and is very deceiving. After a very long discussion it became apparent that their process is as follows. The first search is free, but in order to view the results of the search, you must initiate the 5-day trial which involves paying $1. One email is sent to you with a temporary password. No other email was ever sent to me. It their unstated position that the 5-day trial must be cancelled within those 5 days, otherwise they automatically roll it into an ongoing monthly subscription. No monthly reminders are ever sent. Eventually the customer service agent (Victor) asked me to hold for 2 minutes while he talked to someone else. When he came back he said he had approval to refund the $29.16 charge from November. Our credit card company is going to dispute the $29.16 charge from October. I hesitate to burden the Complaintsboard.com with this, but consumers need to know that this company is using a bait and switch technique, and if their policies are stated, then they are well hidden. Even their customer service will try to wear you down in the hopes that you will give up. Admittedly I share responsibility for not checking my credit card statements more diligently.

Checkpeople Company's billing and advertising policies are not consumer friendly, and after consumer is misled, refunds are impossible

Company's billing and advertising policies are not consumer friendly, and after consumer is misled, refunds are impossible. I had been led to believe I was ordering one time access. Upon accessing their program I found that all information pertaining to myself was old, outdated or inaccurate. Their program "connects" you to "possible" family and friends, many of whom I am not affiliated with at all. The bulk of said report was a list of possible sex offenders in my area which was over 9 pages long. I did not access or download any of the reports because I saw no point if my own was so inaccurate, and as I had only accessed it at all because I had received an email alert from them saying that Negative and possibly criminal activity had been posted to my report. Alarmed, I of course tried the one time report. And as I said, not only was there no such information on my report but it was old, outdated or inaccurate information. I opted out of their program believing that to be the end of it. Next thing I know Im getting charged 3 chrgs of 2.33, 1 for $1, and of course a fee of $29.16 totaling $37.15 in charges. I called and received a convoluted explanation for these charges. According to the page I printed out, they offer 3 billing programs. On the site I accessed initially I was Not given any choice of a billing program. Nor was their any kind of msg about charges for downloading and printing reports, which I did not do, as the report was useless. I can see from previous replies the company claims that you get a msg about the $6.99 being billed to Give you Unlimited Reports. I saw no such msg, nor did I choose this option. Their ad is full of misleading and fraudulent claims such as offering 3 billing plans, under the site I entered initially I was "never" given an option of billing plans. Your card or account is charged whether youve used their system or not. Cancellation may be a simple phone call, but getting a refund for any charges is seemingly impossible. As I said, very little of my report was accurate in any way, and the bulk of it was a list of possible sex offenders. So not only did I get no value for these charges, their insistence that they offer 3 billing plans when I was not given any options Before being billed. Their customer service attitude is they are Right. Funny, Used to be the customer was always right. However after much back and forth, I verified the account was canceled and I was told I would receive a refund of the monthly charge of 29.16 within 7-10 business days, it has been several weeks and I have received nothing. Today I tried again, and was told their was no account for my email nor any pending refund. I wish a complete refund as I did not have access to unlimited downloads after canceling which is what they state that charge is for, nor would I wish to as their Information is inaccurate.

Checkpeople I have made 5 attempts via email and speaking directly with CheckPeople staff to remove my records

I have made 5 attempts via email and speaking directly with CheckPeople staff to remove my records... impossible to complete the procedure. PROBLEM DATE: 9/13: I want my RECORDS REMOVED from this site. The online OPT OUT procedure (which I tried 5 times today) will not allow me to complete the process. During this frustration, I made 3 phone calls to their 800-number, finally requesting to speak with a supervisor. (I have this morning spoken with four women at the 800-number) Each person told me that they could not remove my records. Each person told me to write to ***@checkpeople - when I did so, the same final "procedure page" (which I had filled in 5 times before) appeared. I again entered my name and email, clicked through the pages of verification (bridges, fire hydrants, traffic lights, etc.) only to come again to the final page, stating that this request was "FOR ME" - gave again my email - and had to verify YET AGAIN "I am not a robot". This time, however, the blue circle began spinning... and continued to do so for 10 minutes, never allow the process to be completed. I read to the supervisor the emails which I had sent to ***@checkpeople.com. I read to her their response email, and completed it again, while she was on the phone. Their PROCESS DOES NOT ALLOW COMPLETION. Each CheckPeople employee has the same answers - send an email... wait for the technical team to respond. There is obviously NO TECHNICAL TEAM. Their email response is the same "final page" including the endlessly spinning blue circle - and a "SPECIAL OFFER" suggesting additional services. I told the supervisor - I DO NOT WANT ANY "SPECIAL OFFERS" from CheckPeople... I WANT MY RECORDS REMOVED. There has been no way for me to receive satisfaction from this company - which certainly appears to be a "shady" operation. I then went to the "CONTACT US" PAGE on their site... where it asks "Have a question?" and gives a form to fill out... name, email, topic (OPT OUT)and message. I wrote all of this information (again) in the spaces provided... and hit the SUBMIT BOX... and what happened? The unending spinning circle appeared ... and the email could not be submitted. I have spent almost 4 hours this morning attempting this removal. I have contacted nine other "social media" sites in the past two days to have records removed - as it is MY RIGHT TO REQUEST BE DONE. In each case, whether contact was via email or phone - my request was easily and immediately accomplished. I am a SENIOR CITIZEN... I have many serious PRIVACY CONCERNS as I become aware of the targeting of elderly women taking place today. In reading emails posted on the Complaintsboard.com site - I see that my experience is not an isolated situation - this is the CheckPeople manner of "doing business as usual". I ask that you help me to REMOVE ALL MY RECORDS FROM THIS AND ALL SITES/SOURCES THEY OWN. Thank you very much.

Checkpeople Checkpeople.com Claims you can look for anyone for a Low Intro Price and Cancel anytime no questions asked!

Checkpeople.com Claims you can look for anyone for a Low Intro Price and Cancel anytime no questions asked! I was intrigued about this site and for only $1, I can see if my husband has hidden social media accounts/or other information. So I read all the sites information, checking thoroughly about this very low Intro price for use of their site "unlimited" When I signed up for the intro, It stated I had 14days to cancel, if I didn't cancel within this specific time frame I would then be charged $29.16 ever monthly subscription. So confirm and on I went. After a few pages a page popped up asked if I would like to get the monthly subscription? I hit the button that said "not at this time". I received a confirmation email from checkpeople.com all it stated was Thanking me for my order, my order/confirmation # this was all on July 7th. On July 10th I sent a required email to cancel any further use of Checkpeople.com & received a confirmation email that stated I can Still use their site with unlimited use until 8/9 if I choose to as well as sign up again before this date if I change my mind & want the monthly subscription. Also on 7/10 they sent a conformation email Thanking me for my unlimited monthly subscription for $29.10, never did I sign up for this, 7/6 they hit my debit card for $2.99 & sent me conformation e-mails. 7/7 I have two emails & they hit my debit card for $2.33 & $ 2.99. 7/9 they hit my card 3x's w/o my concent for $2.33/$2.99 also for the previous amount for $29.10. July 10th they hit my card two times for $2.99 & $2.33 again w/o consent! On July 12th is when they charged my card for that $1 introduction price, which they said was unlimited for the 14 days until I cancel. I checked their site on two different days and it looks like they changed the amounts for the unlimited trial offer, nowhere do they explain that you are charged for downloads, and specific items. Everywhere it says "UNLIMITED" use of their site! My specific trial stated a 14day grace period in which I may cancel no questions asked, this they did honor except I was charged for the monthly subscription because they said I only had a three day trial, but I still canceled on the third day! The public needs to be aware of these Fraudulent Practices. Secure is just a word on one of their pages to make you feel secure enough to give them a card number, then they hit your card not once a day But sometimes 3/4x's a day all for really small amounts that most won't even take a second look at! These small amount are not that small in my case from July 7th to July 12th this Fraudulent,Greedy individuals got over $45 from me , all from what I assumed would only be a $1 charged to my card as long as I followed their policy which I did! I also "TRIED" to speak to customer service about the charges, the Rep: Angela told me I signed up for it! Then hung up on me!

Checkpeople Advertisement offered opening a 5 day trial account for $1.00

Advertisement offered opening a 5 day trial account for $1.00. I was charged $29.16 and it over drafted my account. Advertisement offered opening a 5 day trial account for $1.00. I was charged $29.16 and it over drafted my account. I called to get a resolution and compensation for the overdraft fee. I had been charged an additional $7 for downloading a PDF, which by the way must have been written in small print on their site because I had no idea I'd be charged $7 for that. I wasn't that upset over everything but I did think that given the circumstances, they could at least offer to refund the $7 as an exception for overcharging me. They refused to refund the $7, they just refunded $28.16 and kept the $1, despite the fact that I was cancelling the account after having just opened it a couple of hours prior. That's just terrible customer service. I asked for a supervisor, who told me they can do nothing more so I asked to speak with her supervisor and they connected me with a woman who said her name was Dee and refused to give any other identifying information such as an extension or employee email address. I don't even know if Dee was actually a supervisor. She was very rude, condescending and argumentative. Dee told me it was not their fault I was over drafted, even though it was them who had overcharged me. She also argued with me for a good portion of the call about when I had opened my account only to apologize later because I repeatedly told her to check her information and after doing so, she realized she was wrong. After all of this she still refused to offer any kind of compensation for their error. After ending the call I looked them up on the Complaintsboard.com website and started reading customer complaints and I found many other customers who had been overcharged by this company due to a faulty advertisement. All these complaints and the advertisement is still on their site. Dee referred to it as an "old ad". So why is it still there? I came across one particular complaint that was almost identical to my complaint, minus the overdraft. This complaint had gotten a response from a representative from CheckPeople. In that response, the representative stated that in addition to refunding the overcharged amount of $28.16, they would also be refunding the $7 they were charged for downloading a PDF as compensation for the inconvenience. When I saw this response, which is exactly what I was asking for when I called in, I decided to call back and read this response from the Complaintsboard.com website to a supervisor at their customer support center in Orlando, FL. When I called, to my surprise, after one ring a rep answered and it was Dee. The same person who had just told me she was a supervisor and argued with me over this issue. Why is a supervisor taking inbound calls from the support queue as if she is a rep? Her level of professionalism was that of an entry level employee as well, not at all what I'd expect from a supervisor. Anyway, after confirming that she was in fact the same person I had been speaking with previously, I began to read her the complaint from the Complaintsboard.com website, in which a representative from CheckPeople had refunded the $7 PDF fee to compensate another customer for the exact same issue I had called in about. I gave her the opportunity to resolve this without me having to file a complaint and she chose not to do that. I ended the call and now I'm filing my complaint. I would like the $7 PDF fee that I was charged to be refunded as an exception, same as the other customer, for the inconvenience of being overcharged, overdrafted and for having to deal with poorly trained staff who have attitudes.

Checkpeople.com has published content at their website that attacks and damages my name and reputation, and I request that this content be removed. I have repeatedly explained in three previous complaints emailed directly to Checkpeople.com customer service, that I know that the verbal attacks, discrimination and harassment that I have experienced in my recent places of employment are due to the reputation damaging content that they have published about me on the World Wide Web. As a US Citizen and educated professional, I have repeatedly requested removal of this content from their websites and their refusal to do so is disturbing and not acceptable. My professional and personal reputation is associated with my one and only legal and valid first name of "Kara" and last name of "***". My legal and valid full name of "Kara***" does not include a middle initial. My legal and valid full name is referenced on my US passport, educational transcripts, diplomas, CA State ID card, Social Security card and all other legal documents. I do not use and refuse to use any of the aliases as published by Checkpeople.com because they damage my legal and valid name. Checkpeople.com has published fabricated, fictitious, and fraudulent aliases by merging my one and only Christian name of "Kara***" with some Islamic Arab females' name of "Ashifa ***". I do not know these Islamic women and I refuse all fraudulent aliases that are currently published at Checkpeople.com and are as follows: (1) Kara*** (2) Kara *** (3) Kara *** (4) Kara V *** (5) Kara *** (6) Kara *** (7) Ashifa *** (8) Ashifa*** (9) Ashifa *** (10) Ashifa M *** (11) *** (12) *** Ashifa (13) Ashifa *** (14) Ashifa M *** (15) *** (16) Ashifa *** (17) Ashifa *** (18) *** Ashifa *** (19) *** M *** (20) Ashifa *** (21) Ashifa *** (22) Ashifa *** (23) Ashifa*** (24) Ashifa *** First Request to Checkpeople .com: All of the above aliases that you have attached to my reputation are fabricated, fictitious and fraudulent. Please remove them immediately and do not publish them ever again. Thank you. Second: Additionally, Checkpeople.com has associated the above referenced fabricated, fictitious and illegal aliases, that damage my legal and valid name and reputation, to a family circle of Islamic Arabs with whom I do not have any relationship. These Islamic Arabs are NOT my family, they do not support me physically, financially, morally, or spiritually and I do not know them and will never be supported by them. It is not acceptable for Checkpeople.com to associate my Christian existence, my legal and valid name, any of their fraudulent, fictitious, fabricated variants of my legal and valid name as aliases, with any group of Islamic Arabs or with these Islamic Arabs' relational circles when they are and will continue to be cold strangers to me. Second Request to Checkpeople .com: Please remove any occurrence of my legal and valid name of "Kara***" and all occurrences of the above previously listed fabricated, fictitious and fraudulent aliases from all of the published profiles of the following Islamic Arabs and their relatives as these people are not related to me. Checkpeople Unable to access my account, unauthorized charges with refusal to refund for a service not received &/or authorized, lack of assistance all

Unable to access my account, unauthorized charges with refusal to refund for a service not received &/or authorized, lack of assistance all around. Two days ago 7.21.20 i signed up for a trial period for approximately $4.99 claiming i could cancel anytime before the end of the trial and i would not be charged for the full month. I only needed one report and as of yet I've still be unable to acquire it, instead I've been wasting considerable time with futile frustrating efforts contacting customer service. I have been unable to finish the set up of my account, i accepted the trial membership and upon receiving the email confirming my membership with the temporary password i logged out in an attempt to log back in to set up my own password but was unable to. The temp password did not work and i tried everything including case sensitive words. I then received an charge for $2.33 and at this point i contacted customer support. The reps name i want to say was Henry but i am not certain, i explained i was having difficulties and was asked for my email which I gave him and upon confirming i did have an account he stated that he was unable to help me i was going to have to email someone else that wasn't what he did but for the inconvenience he wanted to sell me a subscription for $19 or something like that. I was annoyed because it felt like instead of helping me with what i needed it was overlooked and he was trying to manipulate me into additional charges despite the fact i only needed ONE report. What i was saying fell on deaf ears and i was getting no where so at that point i firmed stated i was not interested nor interested in even continuing the trial membership. Ive had a career in sales and i do not appreciate a hard sell while my questions essentially are ignored. If i cant get answers and its more important to push a product on someone who has no need of it then this isn't the company to help me with my needs. I also realized i had previously dealt with this company a few years prior which turned into a costly bad experience, i had difficulties canceling my membership and was charged several months worth before I successful was able to cancel. Upon realizing that combined with my current issues of not being able to open my account, the immediate additional charges I didn't agree to or understand what they were even for since I hadn't been able to access my account short of accepting the trial and complete lack of service i told him i was overwhelmed and no longer wanted anything. He claimed that my money would be refunded once it was clear there was no sale to be made and we hung up. *** notified me of the $4.99 refund but not the $2.33. Once realizing that there was only the one refund i called the number back and this time it was a woman. She explained to me that i agreed to these charges and that they were non refundable despite my insistence i had no knowledge of them, didn't understand what they were even for but i had somehow authorized them according to her and absolutely in no way are they hidden charges. It makes no difference whether i am able to use their service this charge will not be refunded. I feel like I'm being gaslighted when I'm told something that i apparently did while knowing I in fact didn't. When it comes to customer service there is zero understanding and you can tell by the scripted behavior these are common calls and complaints which would seem to imply something isn't right here. These non refundable charges are a scam and if i cant even use the service i knowingly agree to then its not right to charge a person for a service that they were unable to provide and shown no interest in correcting. I gave up after the two phone calls and then sent multiple emails explaining the situation from beginning to end. Ive attached the email chain and while they are signed by a Natalie the responses are once again scripted answers that don't acknowledge anything specific just that I authorized the charges and they are unable to stop any FURTHER charges because its non refundable. This is when i learned that they intent to withdrawal more money $6.99.
