Hidden fees
Make sure you read the small print. I borrowed $700 in July of 2022 paid back in full on time plus interest. Never borrowed again. A year later my credit score drops 81points because I owe $42. How; if I paid the loan off in full a year ago? Come to find out the lender they found for me, pays a $42 annual fee (store clerks left that information out) even if you only borrow from them one time. I called the lender and they sold my account off to another collection agency whom I can’t get a hold of, only can leave a voicemail. Wow…really! The lender told me they tried to reach me. Of course you did, to a telephone number and address I no longer have.
Desired outcome: Make sure your employees explain that to customers in advance.
Customer service
I was in checksmart today on Six Mile to get on a payment plan. The young lady who helped me was rude. I believe her name is barb. I asked her no paperwork today she replied no I don’t print paperwork cause my customers don’t want it so no I’m not printing it. She definitely need ore training. An attitude like that will run dedicated customers like me today.
Being robbed by this company
I cashed a check around September 16th the check bounced then returned another check. Was then called about 3 or so weeks later saying that the check received was "probably" cashed in twice. Am now being threatened and harassed about paying 1165 when I only received 1165. They are rude about it when I try to speak. I don't understand how I am being charged 1165 when I only received 1165 one time and their unprofessionalism.
Desired outcome: I'd appreciate an investigation on this as I am being charged 1165 that was not given to me twice.

I'm the last year I've been suddenly getting calls from random numbers of people claiming to be a collection company telling me that I owe almost $200 for a CheckSmart loan from 2016?! I have never had a loan other than home and vehicles. These incompetent scammers will start giving me an attitude when I tell them "Sorry but I've never had a payday loan in my life". They have told me they will have me taken to court and prosecuted, they have tried to claim I have taken out MULTIPLE payday loans with them, and today on 9/30/22 this crazy woman started getting loud and telling me they will garnish my wages and take me to court for my past LOANS? It's very pathetic these people can't get off their behinds and get a real job, instead they try to call people and scam them. CheckSmart needs shut down and sued out the behind to the point where they go bankrupt. What a disgusting company!

Staff refused to help lol resolve issue with taking money out of account when I already paid just wanted resolutions it too almost a week and I still had to follow up despite statements of calling back I didn’t receive ( Sheri) other associate must be very hyper kept talking over me refused to let me speak to someone else several times stating no one was there

Unethical practices
Cristina the manager has unethical practices. She will forge your signatures on loan contracts along with having her employees do the same or you will be written up. Unethical! Cristina will also forge signatures on checks that were not signed upon cashing. Unethical! The company will boost your loan to a higher amount for competition within the company without verifying if client can pay amount. Then turn around a repo clients vehicles. Unethical!
Ccfi, checksmart hiring process is discrimination. Moving up in the company is not existent when not bilingual. When hired for the position, the qualifications were not bilingual. I was passed up on a raise and hire position without being notified, or able to put my application, for postion. I was more qualified then the person who received the postion. When I brought this to their attention I was fired.
Desired outcome: Checksmart should be audited. Checksmart should not have discrimination in the company. All managers should have ethical practices. When meetings and training are being conducted the English language should be used.

I went to the store on Alex Bell. I asked to cash a large check. I was told by the employee Renee that it would cost 10% to cash it or I could have it put on a Insight Mobile Banking Card and I would only have to pay their card and activation fees. I was verbally then a attempt at physical harm. I came in to cash a check and the office we full, standing at window and sitting. I asked those who were sitting if they were waiting on line & they all waved me off. I thought maybe they were waiting on those in line. So I got in line. When I was 2nd in line the young lady behind the window was saying something, pointing & wagging get finger & neck. When I finally heard what she was saying, she was chastising me for getting in line. I told her I asked if they were waiting but she continues to point & chastise rudely asking me who I think I am. The ppl waiting then spoke up saying that I asked. She continues on till I got I walked out of store because she was still mumbling & I was getting angry. I came in& reported to so called manager and she very high nosed said... I'mm sorryyy & shot her eyes. I just wanted to get my biz done but as I was leaving, I told the young lady when your wrong, it's ok to apologize to the customer. At this time she proceeded to take off her badge, jacket & fob as if she was coming out to fight & said something I hardly heard to that affect. So, I'm old enough to be her mother, 57, she is about 30, she moved toward the barrier door while her co-workers & so called Supervisor looked on. I told her she is disrespectful& rude to her elders & customer's & if she came out I would sue her & CS. No one does l stopped her or said a word. I left and after I cooled off called to complain again. The lady said if she would have came out, she would have "called someone"... By that time she could have hurt me. It was embarrassing, disrespectful, unprofessional & I felt seriously threatened. I had no satisfaction. I utilize this branch often. Another thing I was displeased about was how she also talked about another customer behind his back for all in office to hear saying not nice things, letting it be known othets potential to be embarrassed behind their backs. I've been in customer service for 35 years and I customer for 55. I've never seen anything like that. Now I feel threatened to use their store & not happy about CS in particular. After filing this to let others know, I'm also going to report to corporate. This was much to much to stomach!

Check cashing
My husband went to your Taylor, Michigan to catch a check. The service was polite enough and that is not why I'm writing you. The problem was this was the first time he had ever cashed a check with your company so he didn't now how the service worked. She didn't tell him what the check cashing fee was until she cashed the check. She also didn't tell him the money had to go on the card until after the check was cashed. Finally, she never told him about the $1.00 fee everytime he made a purchase. Now, of course it was his decision to cash the check there and maybe he should of asked questions. None the less, I believe that she didn't do her job honestly. When I cash a check at a bank I don't belong to I am always told how much I'm going to be charged and if that is ok. I don't believe he was given that opportunity. I'm sorry to say that we will never be using your services again.
Double presentment / cashed the same check twice

On November 27, 2020, they cashed it again causing (to date) three nsf fees, late payments and a very negative balance. I borrowed a loan from checksmart about a month ago. I contacted the corporate office telling them I couldn't make my payments on time cause I had a heart attack and I wasn't released from the doctor to return to work. I told the woman I could pay $50 a month until I returned to work. So not even a couple days after that they debited my checking account for the whole amount. One more thing I had to worry about, how I was going to pay my other bills. I called and the woman never notec the account and there computer never showed it was taken out. I got my bank statement that showed they did, and another woman said she would see what she could do to help me. And of course I haven't heard anything else from them. Very bad company. They are rude and I wrote a letter to the BBB and to the manager over there coporate office. Don't use them very big joke!

This whole company is very rude. The employees who work in the store are comfortable being extremely rude because the corporate office is just as rude when you call them to complain. Asking simple questions seems to frustrate them all though its their job. They are discriminative and will refuse you service after waiting 45 minutes just because its close to closing. They put you on hold for hours, they lie. Its sick how this company is okay with treating people who are coming to them for help.
Terrible place... don't ever go there
I have had my paychecks cashed at Check Smart every 2 weeks for about 4 years now. My boyfriend and I had come into some financial issues after I fell and broke one of my teeth. So my boyfriend got a payday loan at Check Smart, a few weeks later he lost his job due to the drought we’ve had. We went in to get my pay check cashed and asked about making payments and they told us they couldn’t do payment arrangements until he had taken out at least 5 loans. After looking at my check the manager told me that I could get a loan in my name and pay his off since I am still working but I needed to get a checking account. Today I went before I had to go into work and got myself a bank account then we went to Check Smart to get my loan to pay his off. We were then told after standing for about 45 minutes that my loan wouldn’t be enough to cover his…even though I make more than he did, and the lady told us that she didn’t want to give us the money. She then called her boss, who was the person who told me that I could pay his loan with mine, and told her that I couldn’t pay his completely and that she didn’t want to do it for me because if we couldn’t pay his off that there was “no way in hell” I could pay mine off. When she hung up the phone with the manager she informed me that they would be denying my loan because my boyfriend couldn’t pay his loan, and that we would make her look bad. We are not one person… We are not married… Why does anything my boyfriend can or cannot do reflect on me. She refused to listen to me tell her that I could at least pay part of his with the little bit they would give me and try to find someone to lend me the rest of it, she then tore my blank check up and left to assist another customer. They cashed his blank check tonight and it is going to bounce because he obviously doesn’t have money in his account. It was the most embarrassing thing I have ever experienced in my life. I felt like I was being treated like a criminal who was trying to rob them. I am a good person who fell into financial issues and everyone wants to act like because I don’t have all the money in the world that I am not worth helping. I just don’t want anyone else to get treated like I did. I hope that someone reads this and decides to go somewhere else to get their payday loans. Thank you for letting me vent.
I went in for a $100 loan, the usal contract if you don't pay by Sunday then they will automatically take it out of your bank account Monday, well they changed the contract and did not inform me of a new contract, nor did they let any other customers know, they just kept adding monies to the loan like I had been holding the loan, after months go by with no contact with me at all, I called the corporate office to make sure the loan had been takin out accordingly, come to find out tht they just kept adding to my loan instead of taking it out of the bank like they always did ! So, my Loan of 100$ Intended up being 375$, when I talked to corporate they said the contract had changed and never gve me any paper work saying things were different, said they ran it and I had insufficient funds which was a bold faced lie, I told the guy he was lieing bc I had the money in there, for a fact, then he copped a really bad attitude, rudest guy ever, raising his voice, getting smart with me, after he realized I caught him in a lie ! I asked him how many other ppl did you steal frm ? The law has changed that they can only gve you so many loans a year, after talking to the girl at checksmart, she the state of Ohio will only let them gve so many loans a year and they were losing a lot of money, so tht explained it, they resorted to just plainly stealing your money, and there nothing you can do abt it, Bc they hve your bank account # ! So, of course months after the loan, they ran the money and gt 375$ on my little 100 $ loan ! So, I had to go to my bank and change my bank account # so they did not hve my account # ! I had talked to several ppl abt them stealing my money and Of course everyone is being defensive, I just want to let everyone know, checksmart was 1 of the worse experiences I hve ever had with any company ! They are rude, they are sneaky, they will steal your money and watch out they will charge you dif. Amounts ! So, I tried to make this shorter then the whole experience, save yourself the stress, and if you gt a loan watch your bank account, bc they won't tell you, they will just go into your account and steal your money !

I will never use Checksmart for anything ever again. The employees are rude, unprofessional in attitude as well as their clothing choices. One in particular at E. Pima St. And North Craycroft in Tucson Arizona. Obese women have no business wearing clothing that A. Barely covers their crotch, and B. That shows every fat roll, this is inappropriate for any professional position. These people start calling you three days before your payment is due and call at least 5 times per day. And god forbid you ask them to not call all day every day because you work nights then they just call more. My advice run as fast as you can away from this company find other means for a loan if you need it. I strongly recommend titlebucks also known as title max they are polite and professional.

My brother put me down as a reference on a loan without my knowledge or permission. I started to receive calls and was cooperating with them trying to locate my brother. Checks Smart would call more and more with hostility and aggressiveness. I finally told them to quit calling me and that's when he (checks smart) became rude and inappropriate. I asked him to take my name off of his list, (since I had no loan) but he flat out said "### you" and deal with "it" and hung up. I called the corporate headquarter and they were just as rude until I asked for a supervisor. Finally, after an hour, she agreed to take my name off of their calling list. I called my local State Senator and he gave me detailed instructions on how to file a formal complaint. Apparently they just passed legislation here in Utah dealing with "pay day" businesses.

They are EXTREMELY rude. My husband lost his job and was unable to pay the loan back. We asked for a payment plan, and they refused. Then they started taking money we didn't have out of our account (since we had overdraft protection, they were able to do this). When we called them about it, they were extremely nasty. We explained the contract we had said they could take money every two weeks or on payday; they were taking it every week. When I called them on it, they said I was reading the contract wrong. Bull. I am a college graduate with a bachelor's degree in English. I am pretty sure I can read. Then they became abusive saying we must have the money or it would reject. I explained the overdraft protection, and it was not money we really had. Still, they did not care and told me to borrow from a relative or friend. I eventually just hung up on them.

Terrible people
They are rude and have no clue how to run a business! Stay away from them, they reported my fiance of check fraud. They are not willing to work with you.

I have tried over 10 times to get western union at the cheksmart on Terry road in Louisville ky and every time I try it's "never working" maybe stop advertising western union if you can't do it. I'm so over this place ppl are rude and don't give a crap about customers.
Im a client for years. Never once was I informed that a new paystub was required everytime. I get paid every 2 weeks, I was told from the start a paystub was good for 30 days. That's #1. #2, why all of the sudden we are forced to use the greendot card? $15 shorted. That's theft. #3, why do I have to date and put a time that I'll be in to pay?
This company has become a joke
I agree they have no customer service skills, no knowledge of any policies or how to run their business. Even when you call corporate its like going through a maze. They don't know who to transfer you too, they don't even care to hear anything you have to say.
This sorry company debit my card twice. Now they will not give my money back . which my bank has added on fees because it was not enough money to cover both payment.
I had made arrangements to pay off my load yesterday, and before I could go in to take care of it, they sent my check through without my knowledge. That was OK, because it saved me a trip into the store. But this morning, this completely crazy and psychotic woman from the "corporate office" left me a message so rude and condescending I was almost in shock. She said that "as usual, you didn't come in, " among other things. I didn't come in because they sent my check through. I called them and they put me through to the crazy woman. She was even more rude, and I talked over her and told her off big time. She hung up on me and I called back and got her again and finished what I was trying to tell her the first time. I called back later in the day to file a complaint.
I have never seen such unprofessionalism in my life. I am keeping her phone message to me as I want to take this further. Don't deal with these crazy people. They totally lack any social skills whatsover, are extremely unprofessional, and in the case of this lady, completely crazy. Beware!
