Good idea; very bad implementation
It’s nice that one has an alternative to Googles and Amazons. You can use it while jogging; but the application is barely usable if one wants to use it in a car.
- The app does not keep a local copy of the book; if you stop listening by turning the car ignition off and you have no internet connection you cannot re-start the book and, actually, cannot use the app at all. The app will not start without internet.
- If you close the app and re-open it the app will not remember the last spot where you were; it remembers the chapter and will re-start it from the beginning. Since book chapters are 30-60 minutes long, finding the spot where you were is a nightmare.
The Crisp app reminds me of the ill-fated Microsoft attempt at making an MP3 player: the latter also could not remember the last spot. The result being that there is no Microsoft players on the market.
can’t manage library
Chirp often has good deals on books by favorite authors, along with some cheap but amusing titles, and the app playback works fine. But I now have over 100 titles and has become really frustrating to view, scan, or manage them. I used the website to create collections (itself an awkward and slow process), but then found that I can’t view collections in the app. The closest I can come is to page and page through the large grid with books listed by author’s FIRST name. What were they thinking? As many other reviewers have noted, you also can’t buy books in the app, but for an impulsive buyer like me that’s probably for the best. Just give me use of collections and I’ll be happy.
p.s. I also found that my public library lets me check out audiobooks (free of course) and listen to them with Libby which is an awesome app, so now I only use Chirp if it’s a book I really want to own.
Deal with the Devil #?
Probably because we’ve read countless stories or seen movie plots that involve variations on making a deal with the devil to secure an advantage, this story was very familiar from the outset. I’m a cat lover, so that part of the story resonated deeply. The story was at times sweet, and at others thought provoking as we follow the main character on his journey, navigating his choices at each turn. Despite that connection, it seemed to lack the depth and tension that draw the reader completely into another world: I never really felt compelled to root for the protagonist. In part, I think that’s because death is inevitable for all of us; the only unknowns are how and when, and no amount of dealing will stave it off forever. But maybe I’m taking it too seriously. Maybe it wasn’t intended as anything more than a light-hearted tale that would be the perfect complement to a lazy afternoon in a hammock, enjoying an iced drink.
Chirp (.com) is great, app could use some improvements
I love chirp.com. As an Audible “member” I have over 1100 books in my “library,” but Chirp gives me an alternative choice as to how/where I buy audiobooks, especially on discount.
The chirp app is obviously just the playback part of their service. It works pretty well except -for me- the following:
— the app doesn’t allow me to pause/stop the audio playback from my Bluetooth devices.
— the backward and forward buttons (that don’t go to the beginning/ending of a chapter) are only 15 seconds. That should be adjustable or at least 30 seconds.
Both issues unfortunately take away from the multitasking advantage that listening to an audiobook offers. One is often away from one’s phone, or suddenly needed to pay attention elsewhere so that stopping/pausing and then going backward/forward are a bigger nuisance if it can’t be done easily.
Hope “constructive criticism” is taken seriously. I’ll keep buying books from Chirp, though.
Fantastic adventure in Africa during the days of British trading and travels
Exciting, disturbing saga of the efforts of Stanley to lead an expedition across much of untraveled jungle in Africa to rescue the Pasha of Equitoria from being overrun by the fierce, fanatical dervishes. True tale of tremendous perseverance of the rescue column to overcome almost unspeakable hardships, thousands of miles of jungle never crossed previously by any Europeans, famine, cannibals, slave traders, and heroic natives helping a small group of extremely dedicated English traders, merchants, and British officers determined to rescue the forts and accompanying villagers surrounding the British settlements from the infamous Dervishes, fierce Moslem fighters bound to slaughter the Europeans with utmost savagery.
Well articulated story that brings a bygone time and history to vivid life. I kept listening to the book for hours each day, while driving, while sitting in the driveway, and after dinner. Didn’t want the book to end. Great author!
Best deal around!
If you love listening to audiobooks then you found the right place to do it, and certainly at the right price.! Every day new deals abound. I enjoy listening to old time radio shows, and many a day they have them on sale for two dollars or possibly three dollars when the regular price is up to $22 or more.! This makes listening to Old time radio not only a pleasure but pure joy!
They also have other categories of books that run on sale for 30 days or more, so if you think you might enjoy a book but I’m sure? Then at least you have 30 days to go back and get it before it goes off sale. Many books run anywhere from $.99 to five dollars. At any point if you have trouble you can always email customer service, I have done this a few times and they have always been very helpful and have gotten back to me right away. At any rate to make a long story even longer if you are not using Chirp for all your audiobook needs then you are missing the boat! Hurry up and climb on board.
Good Reviews are lies
There are books on this app that are cheap but if you believe that it’s a better alternative to audible then think again.
The selection of books is very poor. A lot of good well known books cannot be bought for this app. My library has a free audiobook app that has a terrible selection but it’s bette than this.
Then it says all books are like $3? What a lie. There are books on here more expensive than it would cost to get on audible.
Also some of these good reviews are saying that you can just buy books from the app which is not true at all. On top of that, audible just started to allow that feature.
This is just based on me looking through the selection of the books and opening the app once. I haven’t even tried out the player which everyone says is terrible.
In conclusion, if you want discount books, you’re gonna get discount books and I guess that’s okay with some people. If you want good options and good books, don’t cancel your audible subscription anytime soon.
Bugs aside it works okay
I’ve been using it for a few days now and have experienced several issues.
1) it sometimes fails to advance to the next track and I have to select the next track to continue playback. Thankfully it does not happen every time.
2) it occasionally opens a blank screen when I try to start playback. Again I had to choose the track to get it to play.
3) It does not pause when I press the button on my Apple (wired) earbuds, Bluetooth headphones, or car stereo.
4) it does pause when another app such as Runkeeper produces audio however it does not resume afterward, instead the pause/play icon becomes a “waiting” spinner. I have to kill the app and restart it to continue playing.
5) when the progress bar is on screen and the track ends, playback may continue but the track # does not increment and the progress bar does not reset.
Aside for these issues it would be nice to see the amount of time remaining in a book; can do it for the chapters/tracks but not the overall book as far as I can find.
2155 saved in 10months on 88 audio books
If you haven’t switched to chirp yet, WHAT are you waiting for? Thanks to Chirps featured deals ALL of my free time, chore time, drive time, shower time, craft time, etc is spent listening to best sellers. There’s a couple dozen new featured deals EVERY DAY on current best sellers. Spending 1.99 sure beats having to pay 29.99 for it somewhere else… and the best part…the money back guarantee. There’s been many times over the last 10 months I bought a book just to find the preview was misleading… …or there’s been a time or two when the details in the book were to graphic for me to handle. With just a quick support email Chirp refunds the amount you spent on the book in just a couple of days. Ive made it halfway through a book before realizing it wasn’t for me, and I was still refunded. You just can’t go wrong.
The chirp app also keeps up with your 7day, 30 day, and 12 month activity so you can see how much you listen and save.
Honestly, you have nothing to lose and soooo much to gain.
Buggy app
The Chirp store is great. I’ve become a little addicted to my daily audiobook deal emails. That said, the app is buggy and missing features.
- Playback at anything other than 1:1 speed seems to really confuse it. It’ll randomly stop playing, loose your spot, and generally not work well. I like to listen at 1.5x so this is really annoying.
- At the start of a track the audio often repeats the first few seconds. It’s not a big deal, but does take you out of the experience.
- There’s no way to manually mark a book as completed or unmark it. Not great if you listen across devices or finish a book but it has filler at the end you don’t want to listen to.
- Other smaller bugs keep appearing and in general the quality of the app just seems like it needs some work.
The most frustrating thing is that bugs like the problems with faster playback have been reported by me and other for months and don’t seem to be getting fixed. I’m worried as I invest a lot of money in the Chirp store that the app will stagnate and never improve.
Meh
Sometimes you can find a gem of a title, but not like on Audible. I use both apps because I just want bestsellers sometimes, or new releases, and Audible lets me do that. But Chirp does give me access to books for cheaper that I otherwise wouldn’t spend $35 a title on which is nice.
I will say, though, I don’t know what it is, but the quality is incomparably bad. Chirp regularly sounds like it’s skipping - which is literally impossible. Like every single person reading stutters on the word Chapter. It’s not like I don’t update the app, and it’s digital, so it can’t be skipping, but it’s always like that, no matter what. I also regularly hit play and have it bump back an entire 4, 6, 9 minutes and I’m confused and trying to find my place again, which, when I’m in the car, is impossible unless I pull over.
I guess these are annoying things to complain about considering the price, but I just wish it was a little cleaner. I guess for a free app and some random cheap titles though, I shouldn’t complain about any of this.
Fine but could use improvements
I like that you can buy audiobooks from chirp without needing to get locked into a subscription. However, the app itself is pretty glitchy and could use some updates.
First, it’s annoying that the “track” numbers and the chapter numbers don’t match.
Second, the app seems to stall or freeze anytime I try to jump to a different part of the book, which is annoying since I often listen when falling asleep and often want to go back to catch anything I missed, which usually requires a few jumps to find the right spot. (This remained true even after I downloaded the book rather than just listening to it streaming.)
Third, once or twice the app has just completely lost my place in the book and kicked me back to the beginning. That wouldn’t be a huge deal if it were easier to find my spot again, but as I mentioned above, the app seems to get really glitchy when I try to jump to different spots.
Finally, it would be nice if they figured out a way to make purchases in the app possible instead of needing to log on to a computer to buy new titles.
TLDR: I will definitely use it for audiobooks I cant borrow from the library and appreciate the non-subscription model, but the app is clunky and could use improvements.
Just finished my first book on Chirp
What are rich time I was just privileged to spend with a profoundly knowledgeable man of God who lived a generation ago. I just finished the book how to be filled with the Holy Spirit, and was profoundly challenged by the scriptural approach taken by A.W. Tozer. I would recommend this book to any Christian who has been born again but wants to live a more deeply scriptural experience of what God has in mind for all Christians.
If the reader of this is not yet a Christian… I would encourage you to read a wonderful small little book just a few chapters long… Known as the gospel of John. Remember hearing about the four Gospels at the beginning of the new testament “Matthew, Mark, Luke & John?“ Just go to John and read those few chapters and you will meet the person of Jesus Christ.
I read the writings of a profoundly scholarly man who had studied all of the philosophies and all of the religions of the world… Who had come up with what he believed to be the single most important question any human being will ever ask or ask themselves for an answer to. Go to the gospel of John and ask this question “who is Jesus Christ and what am I going to do with Him? God will use that honest inquiry to miraculously change your life for eternity. Guaranteed. Abundant blessings.
I like this App, but need Car Play
I’ve had this app for about a year now and have been very happy with it. I’ve only had one or two minor issues, and they were corrected by rebooting the phone. I downloaded this app so that I could get some books to listen to while walking. After two years of almost daily walking, I had become bored with my music. I have now purchased about 70 books, so I have plenty of reading material. I recently purchased a new car, equipped with Apple Car Play, and was planning a road trip. I thought I could listen to one of my books, but apparently the Chirp app doesn’t function with Car Play. It has the Audible and Apple Audiobook apps, so it obviously handles that type of tech. Can you developers do something about making Chirp usable in my car?
6/12
I am amending my review because the problems with this app seem to be getting worse. Earlier, I mentioned that I’d had a few minor problems that rebooting seemed to solve, but since the last update it has really become annoying. Every day, I listen to a book while I walk. The book has been downloaded to my iPhone 12, not streamed. The book plays for 2 or 3 Chapters, then at the end of a Chapter will not proceed. The red play button just keeps swirling, like it’s waiting for something to load, but never stops. I close and reopen the app to no avail. Finally, I restart the phone and it plays, but has usually jumped back a chapter or two. Very annoying!
And I still would like to have it function with Apple Car Play. I’ve decided not to buy any more books on Chirp until these issues are addressed. If not, I’ll need to switch to Audible.
Love it Except……
After “Audible” Chirp is a LOT cheaper for sure! No commitment, and does EXACTLY the same thing as Audible, but there is ONE HUGE problem that I have brought to “CHIRPS” attention via email, and after about a week they replied with an “Oh well, it is what it is” attitude that came off like “F U, we don’t care what you think”….
Audible’s “CHAPTERS” button it Right there on the MAIN interface, Big and Bold, right in front of your face!
CHIRPS “CHAPTERS” button is hidden behind a little tiny “settings” Button which you have to click on, go to settings, find “Chapters” click the chapter you want, back OUT of settings, …OOPS, you’ve heard THAT chapter, then ya gotta repeat the entire process, again and again until you find the chapter you want!
Doesn’t sound too bad does it? A few clicks …. BUT, here’s MY problem with that!
I use Audible/ Chirp at night to go to sleep!
I start it, take off my glasses, lights out, and lay down to sleep!
GD IT, that’s not the chapter I want! Gotta PUT MY GLASSES BACK ON, hit the little “settings” button and repeat that entire prob again !
My point is, WHY can’t CHIRP’s Engineers just write about 30 seconds of code and place the “F’n” CHAPTERS button BIG & BOLD DIRECTLY ON THE MAIN PAGE?
With Audible, I don’t have to go thru the entire process of Fumbling around in the dark for my GLASSES just to find a GD CHAPTER! It’s STUPID!
And their “Laxy daisy “ attitude about it REALLY Ticked me off too! WHATS THE BIG DEAL? Is that asking TOO MUCH?
It’s REALLY a HUGE PAIN IN THE A$$$ for ME, and I’m SURE ANYONE that’s used AUDIBLE will agree with me!
So I short, if I already have a book on AUDIBLE, I WILL use it WAYYYYY before messing with CHIRP!
I know I know….. this doesn’t sound like a big deal to many of you, but if you wear glasses you know EXACTLY what I mean! Even if you DONT wear glasses, it STILL doesn’t make a LICK of sense NOT to have the STUPID CHAPTERS BUTTON ON THE MAIN FRONT PAGE DANGIT!
COME ON CHIRP! GET WITH THE PROGRAM!
Meh. Won’t replace Audible
Honesty time: I’ve been using audible since 2010 so I may have some heavy biased towards it. I listen to 4-5 audio books a month, at least. While I will keep Chirp installed and look for occasional deals I can’t say I’m overly impressed.
1) the deals seem limited to older books or brief moments. And even older books are hit or miss. I went to look for a James Patterson novel that came out in 1995 and it was still a dollar more than it would be on audible. I could get an abridged version on chirp for less but why would anyone do that? I like sci-fi/ fantasy and thriller novels and their suggestions for their cheap books were a Stephanie Meyer novel and a bunch of books by authors unknown.
2) the audible subscription isn’t really that bad as far as subscriptions go- this is nitpicky but audible lets you cancel anytime and you can even pause it for up to six months if you don’t want to be billed. Plus their first book is $15 and then $11 or less for each book after. Not to mention audible now has a large expansive free library and the ability to download 2 audible originals every month. I feel like chirp pushes a false narrative of subscription audiobooks and that made me a bit upset. I get it- marketing-but I’m still mentioning it here because it made me upset every time.
3) their whole “how much you saved this month counter” is a little cringe worthy. For example they have Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Valley of Fear (read by Michael Heely) for $1.99 with an 86% savings saying the cost is originally like $17. But that same audiobook is $12 from google- $10 on Amazon, or $9 on the audiobookstore.com so the savings seems arbitrary and keeping track of it just makes me feel upset because that’s not like a true statistic- it’s just to placate listeners and I feel like assumes buyers are idiots. A public domain book for $1.99 is not an 86% savings.
Ok so why I kept the app:
1) for 1.99-2.99 a book it’s worth giving some of these older or unknown authors a listen. Plus keeping an eye out for an occasional deal on a current novel. An audio book for $3 is pretty hard to beat but just don’t expect selection.
2) the app is nice and easy to navigate.
Overall I won’t cancel my audible subscription and am even more convinced as I try other audiobook apps of how much my subscription fee is actually giving me. Honestly audible feels like such a better bargain now than it did before I tried chirp.
Pleasant surprise!
IWhen I searched the ‘net for a sci-fi book I read as a pre-teen, 50+ years ago, I assumed I’d find a used paper copy. When an unlikely price of $2.99 came up, from Chirp, I started through the purchase process just to see what the “handling” charge was, which I assumed would be high enough to make up for a promotional price like that; then realized I was getting an audio book. I bought it & dowloaded the Chirp app, which I’d never heard of.
The narrator, a gentleman named Turetsky, had a young voice, which was appropriate, since the Robert A. Heinlein book was a youth-themed adventure “Have Spacesuit, Will Travel,” with elder male and pre-teen-girl protagonists, (and a myriad of aliens, human parents, and human bad and good guys, to voice.
The voices were handled well, suggesting acting ability in the reader it seemed to me , a bonus I hadn’t expected. The voices didn’t clash at all with, but actually augmented my already-positive memories of the book. (I’d read it in the 70’s,at a period in my life when that book impacted me so greatly with its positive but offhand and mature side-commentary on the declining state of our public educational system, the emotions of healthy teen life, the aspirations of young men of intelligence and drive, and, —as sci-Fi works often had, prophetic looks at that declining USA educational system, and possible ways to weather that storm; and prescient looks at eventual moon landings & real technology which would be used in real life, 20 years after Heinlein wrote it.)
Handling this book which had shockingly healthy evaluations of mothers & fathers, girls and boys, —and their equally important but vastly different natures roles in life, and even a super-compelling look at an alien intergalactic cop, the “Mother Thing” (all life roles which have come under intense derision, just recently), —proved no problem from a narrator whom I assume is from a generation younger than my own!
I recommend both Chirp, with it’s trouble-free system, & which I bet will be where I search for Fahrenheit 451, which my young 20’s, college-student youngest daughter just recommended when I was discussing this happy audio-book experience, ... And, I recommend this book, also! for young people: the only anachronisms this 1958 book contains, other than pre-inflation retail prices occasionally mentioned, dating from 1958. The moral lessons are anachronistic in a positive way: thought-provoking; and the author creates a book that doesn’t lack great and unexpected adventures, and plot twists —yet shows a generous desire by the author to mentor teens, —which would benefit adults in their 60’s like myself also.
And an Audio presentation like this, when youth are distractted with devices, is more likely to be listened to than read by a youth, I believe. My own marginal near-distance eyesight, combined with a pretty physical line of work leaves me tired at night and paper books thus often don’t get read even after I purchase them now; and in fact, it was the fact that my physicist father, who bore some some important and positive generational similarities to Heinlein and the characters he created (and who loved sci-fi even more than I), began to be alarmed by and to despise the electronic distraction of my youth, namely television, (which then had only two good stations received at my home) which lead me to even READ “Have Spacesuit, Will Travel:” You see, my Dad found it unnatural and alarming how we 4 children sat glued to our black-and-white Motorola television for hours daily…
As a result, when a television vacuum tube had died in my elementary / pre-teen years, he let the television, which he called the “idiot box,” stay dead for four years! We read everything in the house & much in the school library during those 4 years plus having the Chronicles of Narnia read to us by my Mom, on the couch… Which gave me a head start on the salvation I’d experience later at age 20. Maybe it is hard to get a child away from Tik Tok, etc, as it was for my Dad to fight the television- but they will thank you later I feel, if their phones have to be on the charger by 7 or 8, (or replaced by a flip phone?) - Be brave: my Dad was, in this matter and it benefits me and a voraciously reading set of younger siblings, that Dad took “electronic control” for that four years of our lives. Amen. Perhaps you could limit their phone apps to only Chirp after a given hour and curate their book choices too, though you see by my next Chirp plan of purchasing Fahrenheit 451, im no book burner! And, as Christian parents or home-school parents, if you are, this book, with it’s curious blend of healthy late-1950’s morals and some controversial, likely light-hearted pokes at some sacred cows, will provide great discussion with a child, with a wild romping adventure which will compete well with Star Trek, Star Wars, and other behemoth movies of our day. And, I was so impressed with the re-working of this gem from my past, I read an online biography of Heinlein during breaks in the 11 hours I listened to Chirp, USING MY EYES; and critiqued it and this book using the Christian faith I now posses as an adult, over the last few days! Amen.

Will not work while traffic app is on
I only listen to audiobooks while i am driving , and I always have a traffic app on while driving. With Audible, the app would continue to play in the background while the traffic app is on the screen. With chirp, the moment you have the traffic app on the screen, the audiobook stops playing. This makes the app unusable for me. The books are a good deal, but I don’t listen to them unless I am behind the wheel.

Buggy. Skips back
Not impressed so far. Started out ok although the readings cut off mid word at times. Paused it and came back and it skipped back in the book. I’ve attempted to resume my previous place but can’t move ahead. When I try it moves me further back in the book. The little forward/backward arrows with 15 don’t do anything. I’d assumed they repeated or skipped ahead. Nope. Updated it. Still no changes with these issues.

I love this app but it doesn’t work with my phone
I have an iPhone 6se and this app does not appear in my background app refresh list so it constantly turns off while I am listening. I have not been able to find any resolution so I am unable to enjoy my books on the go. I have uninstalled the app several times and both the phone and the app are updated. I wish I could figure this out because this is a great audiobook option for someone like me that listens to them quite frequently.

Unbelievable
As the title indicates, this whole story was unbelievable. I know we buy books for entertainment but, it has to be somewhat real. This wasn’t even close. And the dialogue, when a plane has a bomb go off and the passenger takes out a magazine and starts to read it? Come on. It did serve one purpose, the long 6 hour ride went by fast but my wife laughed at my verbal comments about how stupid it was. Don’t waste your time or money

Needs work. This would be a great app if it worked
I am so tired of the app stopping during playback. I have to open the app and start it again. Usually it doesn’t start where it left off and I have to listen to several minutes again...then just when it gets to where you’d left off, it stops again. It is so frustrating. I’ve deleted the app and reloaded it. I’ve tried playing the books on my iPad instead of my phone and it does the same thing. Audible might be more expensive, but at least it works.

Books fine. App constantly crashing
Right now it just won’t play ch4. Yesterday and today reading stopped abruptly over and over. Returned to iPhone Home Screen.
Switching back to app causes it to relaunch from scratch. Hit play again and it goes back 15s from where I left off.
Over and over and over.
App also lacks features. Books and deals fine, but even cheap books not worth it if u can’t listen!
Yesterday listened while driving. So extra problematic to have to touch screen

Don’t be fooled. This is a terrible app
They do have some sales, but their prices are no different than Audible. And their library is nowhere as large. If you’re going to pay $1 then ok. But if you spend $20 on a book you probably want to access that book (That you paid for) whenever, wherever you want. NOT possible with this app.
***LATEST UPDATE DELETED EVERYTHING*** You have been warned. This app is garbage. Try Libby(your local library) or get out your old cassette player and buy Books-on-Tape.

It’s great when it works
This platform was recommended by an author I read and listen to. I have really enjoyed some good books. However, within the past couple of months I have had many problems by either the books not downloading and/or the books just stop playing. I am very hesitant on purchasing any more books, even at the great deals offered, until things get fixed. I keep the app as well as my phone up to date on any fixes, so I don’t understand why it doesn’t work properly anymore.

Sorry Chirp
I gave you a second chance, a third and a fourth, but now no more chances. When the audio would skip out when I was listening and restart three chapters back (over and over again), I reached out to you and you suggested that I delete the app and then reinstall
It. Having now done that multiple times with no improvement, it’s time to say goodbye. I know others have had similar problems with the app, so I can’t understand how it has such high ratings. It you fix the app, please let me know.

Forced update and deleted downloads
Been a Chirp user for quite a while, but the last update was a forced update. As in I was forced to update when I launched the app. This is terrible practice! Please do not do this again. I had all my purchased books downloaded on device. There should have been no need to force an update.
Not only did it force an update but all the audio books I had downloaded were removed and it went back to streaming them. I had to download them again. At least I didn’t lose the playback position this time.

By Myself and Then Some
Bogart, just another philandering actor, cheats on his wife with Bacall, old enough to be his daughter. Bacall’s star never rose close to the heights of movie star even though she surrounded herself with many A list stars & married two esteemed actors. After the chapters of her life with Bogart, the book became a list of celebrities & their deaths. Near the end her politics take over & ironically laments more than once about society striving for money & large lifestyles, exactly the lifestyle she has.

Ads are deceiving
I signed up because it touted that it was so much cheaper that subscription based services (audible). I’ve spent a good pint of time looking for the books I’ve already gotten through audible and they’re all over double what I get them through audible. They accomplished getting my email address but I’ve totally wasted my time looking into this. If you’re looking for a good deal sign up for a service that lets you get audiobooks for free from your local library digitally. Or just go with audible and feed the Amazon machine.

Great prices, bad app
Unless you plan on binge listening to an entire audiobook at once, be prepared to save where you left off even when you’re pausing to take a phone call. Every time I reopen or hit pause then play again after taking a photo or using some other app that pauses the book, the app starts at the beginning of whatever chapter I was listening to, sometimes it starts on the previous chapter. Won’t bother listening to another on here unless I can’t find it elsewhere, bc the prices here are the only reason I didn’t give it one star.

Wonderful if it works
Chirp audiobooks is among the best services I can find. The only problem is it is completely unreliable. Without warning it will hang up on my iPhone. There’s nothing I can do about that except remove the app go to the App Store hope the App Store finds Chirp, download it and start all over again.
I’ve mentioned this to Chirp several times and so far they haven’t taken any action. So it’s a wonderful service, but you can only expect it to work about 25% of the time. Given the investment in your time it’s probably worth it to go elsewhere

I recommend you looking elsewhere
I bought two books. The first book I experienced at the end of every chapter that it was cut off. The narrator would be cut off mid sentence or thought. Thinking this was a isolated problem I emailed Chirp and told them about my problem. No response.
The second book also had this problem which leads me to believe it is the app. Maybe the publishing company but I don’t know. Either way I emailed Chirp again. Neither time did they email me back to offer a solution. Maybe change a setting or thanks for letting us know. Absolutely no reply at all.

Great Prices but a Quirky Player
The prices for audiobooks are great, far less than other sites such as Audible. The problem is their audio player. I often listen in bed and if I fall asleep and the book ends before I wake it seems to be impossible to find where I was before I feel asleep. Example: the other night I fell asleep at the beginning of chapter 19 which is the last chapter in the book. The next afternoon I tried to get back to the last chapter and the app just shows a spinning wheel and won't allow me to resume where I last listened. After 30 minutes I gave up; as a result I'm not sure how the book ends. Not acceptable at all.

Glitchy App
While I love the price of the audio books at chirp, this app is just terrible. It is very challenging to enjoy myself on a consistent basis using it. I will have the app completely download a book and it will freeze up and insist the download is gone.To make it worse the app did not keep track of where I was and might put me back three or four hours earlier than my listening place really is. It can take forever to find my place again. I can be out on the road in the middle of a journey and lose my entire book. It can never keep track of where I am. It also doesn’t track between devices. I cannot use my headset to pause and restart books on my iPad. So many things wrong with this app! I’m seriously reconsidering ordering books from Chirp anymore

Timer only works if set to stop at end of the chapter. That's it.
This started shortly after chirp update. It was fine before on my current Android phone.
I have been a customer for years and the timer aspect is important to me. This problem needs to be resolved for me to continue to use this app. Thank you.
