2 years ago I signed up for classmates.com When it was time for renewal, I tried repeatedly to cancel without success. They have taken the liberty of deducting the annual fee automatically from my checking acct. I do not wish to continue membership with this company. Repeatedly I have logged on to their website, entered my e-mail address along with my password, and have repeatedly been denied access into my account to cancel, they tell me that my password is wrong, which it isn't . Now I have their telephone # due to a deduction from my checking account recently, their # is [protected]. I would like my money back, my e-mail is don.[protected]@sbcglobal.net

THIS "SERVICE" HAS NO TELEPHONE NUMBER, OR CUSTOMER SERVICE EMAIL ADDRESS.
THEIR METHODS OF BILLING ARE UNACCEPTIBLE. ONCE THEY BILL YOUR CREDIT CARD, YOU CANNOT GET YOUR MONEY REFUNDED, IF THE AMOUNT THEY CHARGED YOU IS MUCH HIGHER THAN STATED.

I have been with Classmates for years and have had no problems. Why don't you go here: http://www.classmatesmedia.com/company/management.jsp#Steven

This page will give you several people to get ahold of.
Good luck and if you have any more problems, maybe I can help.

Do not go near Reunion.com. They are a rip off. and you really cannot get hold of them.

I discovered a charge on my credit card while checking my account online that I did not remember authorizing. I keep extensive records on all credit purchases, and the charge for $39 was not found, nor was Classmates found in any of my records.
I have just visited another website in which the victim of Classmate's "practices" describedthe "How-They-Did-That": It seems that when you sign up with Classmates for the first time, you agree to their lengthy fine print "Agreement". Buried in that agreement, on page 7, in fine print, it states that you agree to automatic renewal. Further, there are no refunds. Worse, if you dispute the charge with your credit card company, they can provide a copy of the agreement and you are out $39. There is no recourse.
If you close your account, you forfeit anything you have paid them.
I recommend that you immediately file a dispute with your credit card company and then ask the credit card company to issue a new card with a different account number. Yes, that is a real hassle - I've gone through that before - and will now need to do it again.
A caution if you cancel your credit card or change account number: If you have monthly payments to a merchant charged on the card, make sure you notify them about the change in the account number.

I'm an elderly senior citizen and I thought I knew how to avoid these type of business practices. I guess I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as I thought I was.

Followup.

After exhaustive email exchanges with Member Service, it is clear that they are an outsourced unit in a foreign country, and are just parroting a script they have been given.

I filed a dispute with my credit card company, but that yielded no results.

I will be mailing a formal written complaint to the Washington State Attorney General's Office tomorrow, but I doubt that will do any good.

I will post again if I get any positive results.

WWW.MYLIFE.COM...WWW.REUNION.COM ...WWW.MYLIFE.COM

I am an attorney researching the business practices of WWW.MYLIFE.COM, WWW.REUNION.COM and WWW.MYLIFE.COM . I am interested in their practices as it relates to the unauthorized SCRAPING OF EMAIL ADDRESS BOOKS.

Pending my review, consideration of legal action shall be evaluated. I located your complaint from a google search of all those complaining about reunion.com and my life.com . Any information you may provide would be helpful so as for me to understand the issues, but response should not be considered as developing an attorney-client relationship. I merely need to obtain information.

Here's a few questions:
1) Did you join the dating portion of these sites and have any issues and concerns?

2) were you enticed to visit any of these websites after an email came to you, appearing like it was from a friend, inviting you to join?

3) do you feel the terms of service and privacy policy noted on the site explained what exactly they were going to do to your email addresses?

4) Were your email address contacts emailed an invitation to join after receiving an invitation which claimed you sent them the invite?

5) how has your involvement damaged your reputation or any finacial losses?

6) Were you contacted by any other companies associated with any of these sites claiming that you had joined their site also, being sent marketing info from companies, ASKING FOR YOUR TELEPHONE NUMBER, OR RECEIVING MONTHLY CHARGES TO YOUR TELEPHONE BILL?

So as to support my interest and qualify my identity, I would refer you to a few of my recent cases I filed, so that you can confirm that I do represent individuals in internet privacy matters. Google my recent cases:

lane v facebook,
valentine v nebuad
simon v adzilla
slater v tagged.com

Once you locate these cases, review the atorneys noted, and then confirm I have the same email as the attorney noted on the lawsuit:

"Attorney Joseph H Malley
malleylaw@gmail.com"

Please feel free to contact me in confidence to discuss any issues. As noted at this point I am merely researching and discussing complaints to determine if there is any allegations of merit.
Thanks

I was charged $39.00 on my Capital One Credit Card for which I did not authorize. I can't understand how you can get away with a scam like this.

company automatically debited our account without warning and put us into overdraft. every penny counts these days and we have been so careful with our money. we are in the middle of filing for bankruptcy and would have liked a warning at least via e-mail that this were about to happen so as to prevent overdraft. this is a non-refundable fee, as i have found out from calling them and they refuse to credit us but will cancel automatic billing which i never signed up for in the beginning. I would advise no one to deal with this company! I will pass the word on!

I received me billing from my credit card company and was shocked to find a charge from classmates for renewal after I had cancelled my account several months ago. I do not have any intetest in staying a member as most of my friends from that era are deceased. I expect a credit of $39.00 on my next creddit card statement. I only signed up for classmates .com for 1 month, they have continues to take money from my account for 5 months now. Have tried to cancel serveral times. I am not able to sign into my account, I have called severals times and always get a recording saying not in at this time, no matter what day and what time I call. I do not want this service and I do want my money back for the last 5 months, 15.00 a month for something I did not subscribe for but one month is getting a little out of hand.

Since Classmates is losing market share to such free websites as Facebook & MySpace - they have employed methods to screw us and keep us as members. I signed up years ago and have not used it in years. Previously I always received and email asking if I wanted to renew. Today I was just charged and told I was on auto renewal, which I am not.

What can we do?

My credit card account arrived with an unknown $39.00 charge and in place of a name there was what I now know was the tel. no of Classmates. [protected] When I logged onto my acct. it verified that they had automatically credited my card without my knowledge. As I have been dissatisfied with Classmates since joining I had no intention of renewing my subscription how can I request a refund? Is it legal to automatically deduct funds without the apporval of the owner of the card?

An amount of $39.00 was charged to my Visa account. I haven't been on Classmates.com for 9 months. Why did I get a yearly fee of $39.00 on my card?

This company is without ethics! I had an account for $19.99 for a year, i was auto charged the following year, as soon as i realized i called the company. They informed me that when i signed up i was automatically agreeing to be "auto-renewed" and that there was nothing they would do about it. I then changed my account to manual. They changed it to "auto renew", when i called this time they told me to read the agreement and i had it on auto-renewal. I argued with them and called my credit card company. Then i went to "my account" and made sure to remove my credit card information. I thought it might be a one time mistake and i would just learn from it.

Now they've done the exact same thing to my son... Changing his from manual to auto! I know it was manual because i was there when he set up his account, i made sure it was on manual. They not only charged his account but they charged $39.99! An amount i have never seen offered! I'm furious because discover said they would investigate and now refuses to refund!

I think there is something in their 'fine print' about auto renewal... I know it can be a pain, but one answer might be to work with your credit card company to close that account and get a new card. Then they can't do any more auto renewals... also there might be a way to work with your cc company to tell them you are not authorizing any further payment to Classmates.com

Its not in Fine print. It is bold and highlighted in yellow directly above the submit button when you are purchasing your membership. It is In the same size font as the rest of the page. All you have to do is follow the instructions they give you to change your account to Manual. So if you purchase a membership online use the instructions that are provided for you so your account will not renew. Classmates fee's are non-refundable and that is all put in bold and highlighted also. You have no one to blame but yourself and your lack of reading skills. I dont pity any of you, suck it up people. You made a mistake and it cost you money.

I agree with Rachael6227, it was clearly stated. After I signed up for a discounted one year membership, I went to the settings page and changed it to Manual so that I wouldn't be charged again if I didn't like Classmates.com

I like classmates. It's been a fun way to get back in touch with old high school acquaintances. True, the auto-renew policy isn't in fine print, but they *are* being unethical. I signed up for a year, and set renewal to manual last year. Then, early this year, I also found an auto-renewal charge on my credit card statement, with no warning, and with a non-descriptive phone number for the name of the payee. So they switched it back to auto on me. I just went back and changed it to manual again. I suspect they switch it to auto every time you choose to renew, so you have to change it after each renewal.

Last year I joined a site called Classmates.com. It was only $9.95 for one year. Today my credit card was billed for $39.95 a charge I did not authorize . To me this is unscrupulous and dirty way of doing business. Anyone reading this PLEASE IF YOU ARE IN THIS COMPANY GET OUT NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. IF ENOUGH PEOPLE QUIT THEIR COMPANY THEY MIGHT LEARN TO TREAT PEOPLE RIGHT. LETS TEACH THEM A LESSON. QUIT CLASSMATES.COM AND BANKRUPT THEM. PLEASE HELP ME TAKE THEM DOWN.IF WE ALL WORK TOGETHER WE CAN DO IT.

I have never used Classmates.com, but have found from experience, that if you click yes to their agreement
they may have you agreeing to an automatic renewal of their services . They call it their End Users License Agreement (ELUA), and it
probably has 15 pages of nonsense that none of us read. Can you go to their site and view this by any chance ? Have you contacted
your credit card company, and filed a dispute with them ? Sometimes this will work...sometimes it won't !

I signed up for one year, I dont remember what it stated about auto renew. I do know I don't like leaving my acct info online so i went to delete it and classmates.com told me it could not be deleted until the charge had cleared and I forgot to delete the info and they changed the fee to 39, and charged without even a renewal reminder email. VERY UNETHICAL! They should be shut down. Rachel and Calvin you sound like employees that have to sit and get yelled at all day cause your company sucks!

I phoned them spring of 2010 to cancel this membership. I was told there was no refund, but, it would not be renewed. Today, I see on my bank statement a charge of $39.00 that was totally unexpected. I don't use the site and don't want the subscription. It seems they do not honor cancellations. I am calling them tomorrow and am sure it will take many attempts to get someone to acknowledge the call.
