Poor communication, difficult to work with
I had a building built by Cleary Building Corp, based in Verona WI; I used their Lake Geneva Office. In short, the building was 6 weeks LATE to begin the build and they misjudged the soil and asked for 25% more for the difficult soil. I paid for some of that. The crew was wrapping up on a very cold Christmas Eve, and once spring came, and I had paid for the building, I asked for a couple of small corrections due to poor workmanship. The building had 3 small problems, and its been 8 weeks, and they have not yet been able to replace one panel.
They also subcontracted the concrete, and were unclear on what I paid for with that contractor. He installed a lower strength concrete, and 6 weeks later, they are still not dealing with me to adjust the price of the material.
The building is fine, communication was very poor, and I would not use them again. The most shocking for a large company is the organization of the lake Geneva office and Brad Zenner's promises are unbelievable. In the 9 months I've had to deal with him, he has not been able to keep his work, despite his claim to be the decision maker.
Not what I paid for
Buyer Beware - Cleary made me wait over 6 months for poor quality
I signed the contract on -May 12, 2014 with the promise the barn would be complete in 6 - 8 weeks
The building was delivered 12 weeks later - now the long wait for the crew to show up.
16 weeks later not all the material was delivered, and hardware was not upgraded as paid for.
Now we are 20 weeks later the crew comes again, still missing parts, wait again
Now we are 24 weeks into the process and the crew comes to finish the job, they do get most everything done but are still missing the corner trim!
Now we are at over 25 weeks which is over 6 months and the barn is still not complete, not to mention there are dents everywhere you look, bent trim, uneven seams, warped lumber, and it seriously looks like my barn went through a hail storm already. I had to oversee the entire project, call and beg for the building to be completed for 4 months, point out where they were putting on standard hardware instead of upgraded as paid for. My engineer drawings were never correct, nails where left everywhere every day, I highly do not recommend Cleary to anyone. This has been the most stressful thing I have ever done - and I have had 3 homes built and 5 barns in the past.
This is the fifth barn I have had built and have never encountered this kind of treatment, workmanship, and customer service. Rating: Quality D Workmanship C Timing F Integrity F Material D Customer Service D

No Concern
Do not buy a Cleary Building unless you can wait 6 months and do not mind poor quality.
I ordered my building May 12, 2014 and paid the down payment that day. With the promise from the salesman the building would be complete in 6 - 8 weeks.
18 weeks from ordering the building and paying for it, the building still sits incomplete with wood exposed and Cleary's construction tools, building material, and equipment everywhere.
After calling a dozen times and threatening to cancel the order I finally received the engineered drawings 7 1/2 weeks later.
Which I will point out were wrong in more ways than one, the salesman again promises the contractor will fix the problems on site.
Wait, why did I pay for poor engineer work? These are the plans the County looks at to inspect the work.
Now is the long wait to start the construction process, which finally starts August 12, 2014. which is 13 1/2 weeks from ordering.
The contractor comes from out of state, takes two weeks to half construct the building because Cleary ordered some of the items incorrect, mostly due to the engineer drawings being incorrect and the lack of communication between the salesman and the ordering area.
The metal is not hardened steel, you can see a dent in the metal where every single screw is, the roof is creased from the workers walking on it, and again you can see a dent where every screw is screwed in.
Now the building sits incomplete for another 4 weeks.
A new crew comes today September 15, 2014 and did not bring the tool bags, so they can not work today.
The contract stated the building must be complete by August but Cleary does not stand by anything they tell you,
They have loop holes in their contract everywhere and they do not provide you with the contract until after your first payment is made.
Very dissatisfied and will never recommend Cleary.
This is the 5th barn I have had built and have never encountered this kind of treatment or workmanship.

Substandard building design & construction
Before buying a Cleary building do your homework. Our metal building was less than 90 days old when the wind blew off half the roof. Cleary immediately stated that they only insure the building up to 90 miles per hour and this windstorm was an act of God in excess of 90 miles and we needed to submit the claim to our insurance company. We submitted a claim to our insurance company and they hired an engineer. Cleary's building design was not engineered to stand up to even 90 miles per hour and was not constructed to withstand the proper snow load for the area it was constructed. They used poor construction - did not use hurricane clips or strapping which would have helped prevent the wind from taking the roof. This has cost us time & money not to mention having to file an insurance claim against our insurance company. Not only do we have to repair the roof but we need to do additional work to the building to make it structurally sound to withstand wind and snowloads. We expected better from a company like Cleary. I would not recommend a Cleary Building to anyone!
Tim Johnson, sorry but we were not offered the difference between standard design product and higher windload/rated building. Never even had the conversation with the local salesperson. It certaintly was not recommended to us or we would have purchased the higher standard building if it had been brought to our attention and we had had the opportunity to review the differences between the two. We would have never decided against a recommended product unless it was not brought up to us in conversation and instead you buried this fact in the fine print of the contract. Now that Cleary building brings this standard design product issue up, it further reinforces my recommendation to potential buyers that it is a buyer beware world and you should do your homework and ask questions - don't just rely on your salesperson. Hire an engineer to look over the building plans to insure that the building that Cleary has designed and sold you meets your local area for wind speed and snow load. Ask them about this standard design vs higher windload/rated building issue as Tim Johnson brings up. Question everything and get second opinions!
Horrible service, not finishing job, on and on
Don't even know where to start...Cleary buildings screwed me over every possible way. Had a contract to have garage built in 5 months (weather pending) almost 2 years later and I'm still dealing with their BS. They didn't obtain correct permits, estimate was way way way off. They tried charging me thousands of dollars more than promised! Concrete slab immeditly cracked, building slopply put together, customer service tough and confrontational! This company is the worst I have EVER dealt with! I still have not had building inspected over 1 year after built because they haven't work out inspection or well permits. STAY AWAY FROM THESE IDIOTS!

Buyers Beware of Cleary Buildings
I have purchased a cleary building for my farm about 1.5 years ago. It was a 42x56x12 machine storage building. My experince with cleary buildings is one to remember. During the building process the crew threw there trash everywhere. They put a hole in my west wall with there skidloader, did not put in all the screws, and left alot of hardware loose. (It...

Reading through all of these has a very similar tone, which makes one believe they are trained or coached to lie, take your money and run, and allowed to be this way. In fact, Corporate seems to support them 100% by claiming denial. I also notice a large discrepancy in the historical data of how many buildings they have erected. 100k to 150k...
The Kasson, Minnesota salesman is worse than any car salesman I have ever seen. He tells lies and then swears to that lie even after being found out. Crook!
