Salesman estimate over charging
Do not ever do business with this company they will rip you off and not feel bad all's they want is money. We were going to have a 60x 80 building put up by them Steve the salesman was very pushy constantly bugging my wife just to get the contract signed and get there money. We met with him one night and was telling us that it was going to cost 31500 for a pad which was extremely high I know because I had knowledge of what cost because I worked road construction. So he left and I told my wife no not to sign anything we'd have someone else come do the pad so we got an estimate of 13000 for the pad from someone else so she called Steve the salesman and said we were going with someone else to do the pad nope he's telling her that that would be all wrong that they had to have the pad done or they would rip it out and cost more. So behind my back the salesman convinced my wife to sign the contract and even went as far as to show up while she was working which is absolutely absurd.Thats how pushy that Steve was so he convinced her to sign it without my knowledge which is not right. So we were able to have a local company we knew haul in all the gravel and when they were done they said it costed 8200 dollars for the trucking and gravel which was cheap. The guy that did the pad had a skidloader and a walk behind compactor and had the job done in 16 hrs my wife gave clearly a 19000 dollar down payment and they said we still owed them 11250.00 which is nuts.We called the guy that did the pad and didn't come out and say it but more or less said he didn't charge 23000.00 for his skidload for 16 hours he said without Cleary he wouldn't have any work so he can't say how much he charge but it wasn't what Cleary was charging us there filling there pockets on over charging people on what other services people are doing how do i know this because they called the trucking company and chewed them out yelling them it was none of our business and the shouldn't of told us what the bill was. So basically do not sign any do not give them money and do not have them do your pad or any site work they will screw you over and laugh all the way to the bank and definitely do not have Steve the salesman come over He's as dishonest as they come
Many months for simple barn
Cleary Building Nightmare
Contracted March 17 2022 with Cleary for a 30x48 barn. Was told day of signing contract doors would be ordered at that time. Construction was to begin in August/September. After many calls to Cleary building materials did not arrive on site until October 20, 2022 excuse was the steel coming into the plant. Construction did not start until November 10, 2022 two guys showed up and building was completed November 12, 2022 was impressed with the two guys they are very hard workers. It took another month to get the floor poured was December 12, 2022. I had put ten feet of gravel around the barn for fire mitigation the cement guys covered it with dirt I was not happy as I was home all day and they just did it, did not even ask. I then had to get more gravel to fix their mistake and my time to do it. Was told December 13, 2022 that parts were missing for the overhead door installation another week delay. Was then told installation would happen on December 21, 2022. At 11:30 called Cleary that nobody had showed up Cleary then called and said they went to wrong customer and installed doors. I replied so they will be out tomorrow to install my doors Cleary said no it will be to cold. So that was the excuse thru the Holiday’s. January 6, 2023 I once again asked if doors are going to be installed that day was then told they did not have my doors. Was told doors were sent back to Clopay by the installer. I then called Cleary headquarters the guy I talked to was nothing but rude and blamed everything on Covid and Clopay doors. I would have fired an employee for speaking like he did to a customer. Was then told new doors would not ship from Clopay until January 19, 2023. Cleary took no responsibility for the delays. Doors finally installed on January 26, 2023.

It was certainly memorable – a nightmare! The rest they failed at! Just remember on time means when they feel it is time.
I had a custom home built from signing contract to moving in during 2021 and it was the middle of Covid and building supply shortages house was completed in eight months.
Cleary cannot build a pole barn in ten months. Customer satisfaction is none existent and all I have heard is excuse after excuse. Never once was asked by Cleary if they could do anything to make this right.
Several months later, dishonest
STAY AWAY! This company is the biggest group of liars you’ll ever meet. We signed a contract in Dec 2020 to have a shop put up. We were told they would be there in July 2021. Day after day, week after week, month after month they had every excuse in the books of why they were not there. We asked for our deposit back and they offered to give us 1/3 of it. When they finally did show up in December it was a 2 man crew. The crew wouldn’t start work until after 9 am and would leave before 3. I know this because we have trail cams that sent pics to us. The only days they stayed late were the days we were on-site. It took 3 months for them to get the building almost finish. The final week they got sloppy and scratched a bunch of tin. They were also short trim. The sales guy wanted us to pay the final $8k and we laughed in his face. He told us they would just open a warranty ticket. First off it wasn’t warranty work and second they have a year to fix warranty work. Took several weeks for them to come back and use touch up paint on the scratches and finish the trim. We had since moved, but gave them the updated address. We never received our lien waiver or warranty papers because first they mailed it to our neighbors and then to our old address. My husband went in circles trying to get it. Finally I called corporate and got it emailed.
Desired outcome: None, just a warning to others

Contract
I asked to cancel a signed contract to erect a 24'x24' garage in early March. I discovered problems with this contractor soon after and asked to cancel. The estimated time to actually erect it was for August, many months later. They are asking for a large amount from my deposit for engineering costs. My requested project does not require special engineering. I counter offered $500. The law firm I contacted to prepresent me failed to call back. I am 80 years old and had shoulder surgery just before I got the estimate. I was on pain medication, and was recently widowed. This is not a reliable business to do any projects with. I wish I had done more research before signing with them. They have no heart and have had other issues with clients. One building was erected 12 feet from where it was to be placed and the owner was out of state to stop the error.
Desired outcome: I want a full refund of my deposit because they refuse to negotiate.
36 x 72 ft Pole Barn
In a word, Horrible is how I would describe my experience with Cleary. If I could give them zero stars, I would. To begin with, they give you an estimate based on perfect building conditions, not on your site specific conditions. They do not come to your site to evaluate it. Even if you tell them what your site is like (rocky soil, mud, etc) they do not listen. Then they complain when they get there.
They do not ask if your site is inaccessible at certain times of the year due to snow or mud. They just showed up with building materials, even when I told them they couldn't drive to the building site for another month. They were then mad at me and complained about having to haul the materials down to my site when it was time to build.
My sales representative was a bully and hated women. He tried to intimidate me on many occasions when I had questions about extra charges. He would move into my personal space and lean over me while trying to shout me down.
I paid every bill within 3 days of receiving it, and on the second to last payment, he threatened me with removing the work crew from my site unless I paid immediately, even though it was only 2 days after he had emailed the bill.
The building looks decent. However, they only put one truss every 12 feet. I have two engineering degrees and this is not anything that we were ever taught was safe in construction, especially in snow country. Additionally, there was one lateral tie running the middle of the trusses down the length of the building. These need to be spaced at a minimum of 12 ft apart. I should have had at least 2. Mine was made of 12 ft 2x4's tied together and there was only one.
Fast forward 1 1/2 years after construction is done, 1/3 of my roof collapsed. It only had 20 inches of snow on it. This is less than 30lbs/sq ft of snow load. Even though I requested a snow loading of 60 lbs/sq ft, they built it to 35 lbs/sq ft and I signed the contract without reviewing the font size 8 notes (buyer beware on this one). They are claiming "Ag Exemption" for the low snow load. Regardless, it was designed for greater than the snow load that caused the roof to collapse. They will not honor their warranty. Their engineers are claiming it's an act of god and failed because the 20 inches of snow were greater than the 35lbs/sq ft they designed to. When I pointed it out that this is not so, they told me I was out of the warranty period. Their warranty clearly states "Cleary will repair or replace, free of charge, any portion of the structural framework installed by Cleary, including roofing and siding panels, if damaged by snow which does not exceed the design load, within five (5) years of the completion of the construction and while Purchaser is the owner of the building." I was told to contact my insurance company and they could dispute it if they chose.
This whole experience has been highly disappointing. Their customer service is awful, their claim to of absolute commitment to Customer Service and excellent warranties is a sham.
Whatever you do, even though they might be the cheapest, do NOT use Cleary Building Corp.
Desired outcome: They pay for the repairs. NOT perform them. I think their construction is sub-standard. Just give me the money to repair my building.
Cleary has agreed to honor their warranty and repair my building.
Hanger construction
Salesman was willing to tell any lie to get contract signed and deposit made. Oregon IL office is the most unethical office ever. We signed a contract with a specified start date range only to find out the project was never scheduled within specified range. Extremely poor communications and we have yet to receive a copy of the signed "electronic contract"
Tim Ford
Desired outcome: Start project on time
Pole Barn Project gone wrong
Contacted Cleary Building Corp to have a simple 36 x 40 pole barn installed. Signed a contract with a sales rep in September of 2020, that promised to be in contact with me every week during the process. Saw him that one time, gave him deposit of over 8k. Never saw him again, no guidance or help during the permit process at all. Called him after more than a month of not hearing from him. He informed me that he no longer worked for the company and does not know who my new rep was.. After more time went by I met the "replacement" sales rep. He promised me the same weekly contact and updates. Another few weeks went by and I decided to call him to get an update. He informed me that HE no longer was with the company. I was never notified by Cleary about either "sales reps" departure. Finally after after 4 months of this terrible customer service, I notified Cleary Building Corporation's home office that I have had it with this fiasco and wanted my deposit back. I was then informed by their "Director of Marketing" that I would only get around 4k back for terminating the contract. He said that was for cost's that Cleary incurred during the process. They did nothing but produce a rendering of what the building looked like! I asked for a detailed invoice for the charges of over 4k that they were charging me for. The DIRECTOR OF MARKETING refused to produce the invoice! I received my partial refund in late July of 2021, nearly 10 months of nothing being done that cost me over 4k..
My advice to anyone that is even thinking of using Cleary Building Corp is, Don't walk but RUN away from this company!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer's satisfaction.
Deposit paid zero follow up, wrong information past deadlines still no barn
We placed an order with a deposit, after that no communication. I call, Salesman gone due to medical. New Project manager, has to familiarize himself with project, no follow up. numerous calls and emails, "excuses of crews quit, etc. Still no follow up. Date set, came and went with no follow-up except for me calling.
Recently told holes will be drilled and posts set next day, I drive 200 miles roundtrip to property for verification, NOTHING. Contact rep, "OOPS" my phone number is similar to another customer that must be more important. Still NO DATE. Job is to be finished before our house can begin construction, causing another years delay
Desired outcome: Get my barn done! As paid for

Warring buyer beware if you are considering buying a Cleary building in the Butler Pa. Area
Cleary is now refusing to honor the warranty roof is buckinling up wall panels not screwed to wood on bottom 40 + large bee holes
I order a small building that was 37 X 27 and it was scheduled for a 3 day build and material was delivered on April 18 to the wrong building sight and then several hours reloaded on the same truck and then delivered the correct sight.
The material sat on the ground for several weeks blocking access
Then Cleary sent a inexperienced crew with no supervision most of the time that did major damage to the building
All 6 main support post on the east wall were cut off to short and the trusses are damaged
Posts on north wall are in the wrong spot
The wrong nails were used to attach the wall girt's, I had questioned the nails when I seen them I was told they were ok I had to contact main office many time to get it corrected sending them pictures and their own prints requiring the nails to be treaded and rated for treated lumber not smooth nails that pulled out when I pushed on the boards they did add the correct nails after multiple email
The purlins were not nailed properly spliced where no splice was permitted I have many pictures
Sheet metal cut wrong and installed incorrect roof multiple leaks used caulking which is not permitted
Trash thrown every ware
Dents and scratches throughout the building
To get anything fixed on this building I have been met with high resistance
Branch manger inappropriate conduct in front of other Cleary employees, my neighbors and grand children have a written agreement that he was never contact me or come on the property again that he violated both
After several month of doing patch jobs on the building Cleary sent in a crew from Indiana witch had to totally remove the roof the east wall and the south wall to rebuild them but did not replace the cut off post or damage trusses or the metal on the east wall that has multiple scratches form being installed 3 time
Again Cleary sent the replacement material to the wrong building sight
On august 23 2019 Cleary sent me a email that they were going to file a lien against my property when they were aware the building had problem and the building was not complete this is when I had to get a attorney involved
Late August or early September I contacted NFBA and then Cleary came to do a another patch job on the trusses 3 men show up with 1 2x4x8 and 1 bolt and 2 L brackets to reinforce the roof from uplift do to main post being cut off to short I had to wait there for well over a hour wile two men went to get more bolts L brackets and 1"screws
Final inspection and walk around was never completed by Cleary because it would not pass their own requirements
On September 23rd Cleary made more repair to the roof area where rain and lights and bugs entering the building, Cleary did reduce the final price by $3000 witch did not cover the aggravation and the damage cause by the delays, as per Cleary this Building is listed as "AS IS" with full warranty and now they sent the warranty papers that started on June 19 months before the building was completed
After I informed Cleary that I am contacting BBB and others they changed the date on the warranty to 8/9/19 in an email on 10/17/19 even with the final papers were not sigh until September 23 and they were still making repairs into October. You may wonder why I signed the paper when the building was not right I signed because I did not want any more phone calls 3 calls a day when I was at work and emails
The building is not right and never will be unless it is torn down and rebuild form ground up
I wish there was a way to send the hundred of pictures of the problems that started on day one
Attached I just thee of many emails trying to get this building resolved

Subject: Building issues
Chuck,
Thank you for letting me come on your site and take a look at the issues with your building. At first site I thought the building was not to bad and we could make some small repairs and get this finalized. After listening to you, taking some measurements and looking a bit closer as you know have some big issues. The best way to fix these issues is not to again patch it more. As we discussed on site some major repairs are going to have to be done. I do not want to again take this roof off for the third time but I feel it is the best solution for the situation. Listed below are the issues and I what feel must be done to correct as best as possible. Please review and let me know if anything was missed.
#1-Remove the East side wall of steel
#2-Remove the roof steel
#3-Remove the peak purlins and extra blocking that was installed wrong. Install new peak purlins and check all other purlins for correct installation
#4-Raise the east side of the last 3 trusses to get them level and correct height
#5-Raise the two end wall headers.
#6-Check all the columns and get them as level as possible.
#7-Add the two header post to the south end wall that were missed.
#8-Move the center jack brace on south end wall to correct height, add the other two jack braces that are missing
#9-Install the correct amount of nails to all the corner bracing
#10-Install the correct amount of nails to the track mounts on the OHD's
#11-Install new OHD trim and J-trim on south end wall doors
#12-Install east side steel that was removed at the correct height, replace two damaged sheets
#13-Install new eave vent and trim at the eaves both sides correctly. ( I will review with engineering with applying gutters over this trim before we proceed)
#14-Install new roof steel with the correct overhang and no roof leaks
#15-Install new gable sheet on north end wall that is scratched
#16-Install new gable trim correctly
#17-Install new Marco ridge vent correctly at the peak
#18-Install new ridge cap correctly
#19-Install gable trim on corners where corner trim lands on the ribs
#20-Clean entire site of old trim and damaged steel
I will also get you a bid to add the roof DB insulation when we return to fix.
If you do agree to this repair and we do all this work once complete we will both have to approve the repairs and a full final payment will still be expected.
Let me know if I missed anything, as I will be your direct contact going forward.
Thanks again,

Nic Herron has been extremely difficult to get ahold of and from the time we committed to the building and put our money down, he went from agreeable to impossible to get any information from. Unfortunately we made our final payment before he fixed a couple of issues with our building and it's been one excuse after another. The last excuse was his "yard was broken into and all tools taken". I was googling this when I ran across additional complaints about Cleary. Darned people.
Cleary Building Corp. is fully aware of this particular situation and we have addressed it with our Client. We are working to make sure the project proceeds in a timely manner. I spoke with the Building Specialist assigned to this job, to get more details about the Client’s concerns. Yes, there were delays, many were out of Cleary’s control, not all. Initially, we made attempts to contact the Client to set up a time to do the repairs, but we were unable to connect. When we finally made contact with the Client, they wanted to make sure they were present when the repairs were being done. We attempted to accommodate this request. On the morning of the scheduled repairs when the Client was available, it was discovered, in fact, that Cleary’s fenced-in storage yard had been broken into the night before and tools were stolen from the trucks - which delayed the repairs further (repairs had to be rescheduled again). When we got re-tooled and went to load the steel to be installed (for the repair), we noticed it had been run over by a landscaping company’s truck (not Cleary’s truck). We called the Client about the situation and sent them pictures letting them know the steel was damaged and that we would reschedule once again when we received the replacement steel. Please understand that Cleary has been corresponding with the Client and we do have a plan of action in place to resolve the issues at hand. The delays have been lengthy due to these circumstances and we apologize for those delays. Our focus remains on providing the Client with the highest quality building. As I have already expressed to the Client, I stand ready and available to assist them with any further issues or concerns. - Don Herron, Cleary Building Corp. Region Manager
no follow up - salesmen quit - terrible business ethics
Be wary of this company. I was all signed up, deposit given and was ready for my new barn. Unfortunately my sales rep quit and I was never notified. After months of not hearing anything I called in only to find out this fact and the new rep of course say " I was just getting ready to call you " after time went on ( over a few more months) I find out that he has quit and now another rep has quit. Now being on my 3rd rep I felt wary of this company I'm about to give a lot of money too. After I call to cancel my contract Cleary decides it's in its best interest to keep a pretty substantial part of my down payment. :-(
While talking to management I was considering decided to continue my contract as they seemed very nice.
Unfortunately I just can't do business with a company putting my "back to the wall" concerning my down payment and feels it's in its best interest to keep monies that were not earned.
Before signing papers to build with Cleary, verify just how long the rep has been with the company and be ready to deal with others and do your own follow up since they do not. Very disappointed with their business practice!
As a follow up to the recent post from one of our clients in the Butler PA area, Cleary Building Corp is absolutely not in financial trouble. We are 100% debt free and have a mid-seven figure line of credit. And we have an extensive list of very satisfied clients. We have sold over 111, 000 buildings since we opened our doors for business in 1978 and we have built equally as many. We have a 99% customer satisfaction rating and while we know that we are not perfect, we certainly strive to be. The circumstances that have transpired on this particular client’s project are unfortunate; however, we are actively working with this client in attempt to construct the building that was purchased as per the terms of the contract. We have incurred significant expense on this project and we are under contract with this client. Cancelling the project at this point in the process comes with great costs to cover the expenses to date. Again, we are hopeful that we can come to a mutual agreement with this client and execute the contract as it was written. I welcome anyone to contact me directly at [protected] to discuss our company’s past and future performance along with our extensive list of satisfied customers. I would also encourage you to check out our website at www.clearybuilding.com along with additional client testimonials located at www.myclearybuilding.com.
Thank you,
Brian Ransom, General Manager of Operations at Cleary Building Corp.
Cleary Building Corp must be in financial trouble. Buyer BEWARE. Do not even consider a Cleary Building Corp building. I do believe in the past they were a reputable company but they are certainly now not reputable. My story is very similar to yours. They have my deposit of 50, 000, and have said that it was my fault that after 9 months of being put off for some bogus reason or another and seeing 4 other Cleary Building Corp buildings within 50 miles of Butler PA have one construction trouble after another, that I I refused to let them start until they could prove that they have a quality crew that has the capability of building my 80 x 200 indoor arena that it is now somehow my fault. Yes, they have a contract, yes, they tried and succeeded in deceiving me when I signed the contract as I was not looking for them to be a scam artist, yes I even signed change orders under duress and I signed as much because they said they would not start construction unless I signed them. Then 9 months later they tried to say I requested the change orders. After one issue after another that I do not trust that they can actually make a quality building anymore, and I certainly did not expect to have extortion tactics used on me. So yes, my bad for not being aware that such a big company could be so awful to deal with. I should have expected the worst in a company, then I would not have been so disappointed . Funny for them to say I am in breach of contract, how many others have heard this same story. I think they are in financial trouble and their contract is just a way of fooling hard working people who are not lawyers, people who just want a building, not legal issues or hassles into financing their Super bowl commercials and who knows what else. Cleary Building Corp certainly has a big plan in mind for your money. And it does not always include a quality product nor satisfied customer service.
Cleary Building Corp has been in business for over 40 years and sold over 111, 000 buildings. We have never proclaimed that we are perfect and in construction this is sometimes an impossible task. What we do recognize is that we do fall down but always we work to correct the problem in a diligent and expeditious manner. We have branches throughout the United States and we have our corporate office in Verona, WI that monitors customer service throughout country. Our contract document is upfront about the next steps of the project and what happens if a party does not want to proceed. We make every effort possible to correct a situation and follow through with a contract, including in this case. Cleary Building Corp is a custom builder and every project is a unique design for us. This person does not want to proceed now but 6 months ago they said they may come back for a different building. We offered them a credit for the next building when they return. Thank you, Mike Wuennemann, Director of Marketing
bad construction
My husband hired Cleary Building Corp. to build our 42x60 shop. The posts were not put very far down in ground like he was told at least 4ft and high wind blew it over only few weeks old. 32, 000 dollars involved - gone in a wind storm. The construction was not what they said they would do, plus it was not level. He called the salesman to come back and fix the doors they didn't latch properly and he never came back. Really bad construction the posts just bent over and then snapped. I would try Morton buildings- buyers beware!
If they had put the posts- they call 3-2x6's nailed together posts had been put in cement and down 4 feet it would have with stood the high winds! They will not refund our money! saying its "A act of God" we think its a act of shoddy construction done by Man!
Ron there was 113 mph winds in emmons county but it was thirty miles away from the location of this building. I have a wind perometer. And I live not even a quarter mile away from this specific building and I clocked only 70 mph winds.
We are aware of this client and take serious issue with the commentary they have posted. This was no ordinary wind storm, in fact both the National Weather Service and Emmons County Sheriff’s office posted documented wind speeds at 113 MPH. Construction methods did not cause this building to fail, and I will contend if additional concrete were added (even though not warranted per code or specification) the columns would have still snapped given such a severe weather event. Acts of God such as this are precisely why there is insurance, and it certainly should cover a case like this if in fact proper insurance was placed on this building. The commentary posted is bordering slander, and we will take whatever steps necessary to protect our good name, which we have spent over 40 years establishing.
Thank you

Cleary building corp.
Our Cleary 30x64 building project has been an absolute nightmare! The entire process has been horrible. Nothing has gone right & I don't have one positive thing to say about the company or it's people. Lots of issues. Poor customer service, poor communication, poor planning, trash & nails all over, materials laying on site for months, boards warped, items blown all over, don't stay on target, don't show up, dishonest, work little hours. Building has sat so long with 1/2 of roof on that birds are tearing up the vapor barrier. I literally could write a book! The job has drug on & on. This is one of those items where you get what you pay for! There is a reason their bids come in the lowest! They dont even provide their employees with a portable toilet on site. They want the customer to do so. Cleary truly does not care about the customer or their people in the field.
We are in CO and are dealing with the Ft Morgan, CO branch. If I could start over I would and take my business else where for sure.
Buyer beware! Definitely go with a diff/better company. You will be very disappointed with Cleary.
We are in receipt of the post by Ms. Howard. We received a phone call followed by subsequent emails regarding her concerns at our world headquarters Monday morning 4/3/2017. I was dispatched immediately to get involved in providing solutions and resolutions, and she was told she would receive a call from me by 12:00 PM MST Monday 4/3. I called Ms. Howard (Josie) Monday 4/3/2017 at approximately 11:00 AM MST where we discussed a variety of issues she has had with her overall experience with Cleary Building Corp. I expressed to her that I would investigate further and provide her email documentation for plan of action with dates for execution later that same afternoon. I sent the first email to her Monday 4/3/2017 @ 1:41 PM MST laying out the corrective action plan for each of the issues we had spoken about. I sent her a second email Monday 4/3/2017 @ 4:34 PM MST giving her an update on loose ends and tightened down dates from the first email sent earlier. I received an email from her a short time later Monday afternoon 4/3/2017 expressing her gratitude, which is why frankly I am quite surprised with this and other postings. I received a new email this morning (Tuesday 4/4/2017) with a new list of concerns, and have been corresponding with her throughout the day today addressing those as well. We have a set plan of action clearly communicated to her to resolve the issues at hand. Our focus remains on addressing the list of issues, and providing Ms. Howard the building she deserves. As I have expressed to her numerous times over the past 24 hours, I stand ready and available to assist her with any further issues or concerns.

My job has been pushed back and horrible customer service
My husband and I bought 2 buildings from you. We pd our down payments back in August of 2016 with the impression we would start that year. Our first building was a little late getting put up but it was done in a timely manner. The 2nd is not the case. We have spent $100, 000 with Cleary and you wouldn't think we would be treated the way we have been. We were told our house would be started Dec 1 2016 but the materials were not delivered till Feb 1, 2017. The crew has been on the job since then and we only have 1/2 our metal on the roof. They have every excuse under the sun why they can't work. It has been one of the mildest Iowa winters I have ever seen, 70 degree weather and they can't work? We were told it would take 10 days or 2 weeks to complete and has now been a month. When the crew is there they spend more time in their truck then on the job. We have tried to complain to the manager but he says he doesn't care and will leave our job if we say anything. What happened to customer service? I have been living in a camper with my family for 6 months. Which they are all aware of. This is affecting everyone involved. All of my other contractors I have lined up to work on our house which in turn is going to take longer because they can't wait around for the Cleary crew to decide to work. Now we had a storm last night and our roof, we were told would be done last week, all the metal is ruined and we will have to wait longer for it to be re-ordered. I would like some sort of compensation and someone who cares to come over see my project so it can be completed. Thanks Danielle Yonker
I'm actually impressed with how fast this complaint was addressed. I'm still waiting on a resolution!
Upon being notified of this situation we immediately contacted the client. It is a top priority to address their concerns. In our conversation it was determined the manager did not tell them we would pull the crew off of their job if they complained. The accusation about the crew sitting in their truck was brought to the customer from another contractor working on the site, and was not witnessed by the customer. The accusations have been brought to the attention of the local, and regional management and it was discussed that this did not occur unless it was a lunch break, or otherwise. The down payment was made on October 4th with a tentative erection date of December/January per the contract. This winter has been unseasonably warm at times, and has also been unusually windy as well. This certainly has impacted the start and completion of the project as any type of winter weather will do. We started this project on February 7th, seven days past the “tentative” date provided in the contract. There is replacement steel, for material damaged by the storm, delivering the week of March 13th, and we will be proceeding with the two days of work to complete the project during that week. We continue to work with this client to provide them with a quality building, and will address any future concerns promptly as we have done in this case.
Thank you.

Read full review of Cleary Building and 4 commentsPoor service, no coffee, long lines while workers outside smoking..
Dear Circle K,
I often drive through Thornville Ohio for construction jobs in the area, and I stop by this particular Circle K quite often. The last several times I've stopped in, there's always long lines, and at the same time there's always 2-3 workers sitting outside smoking cigarettes, WITH THE MANAGER! This is not the first time, this is all the time. Now on my last stop a couple days ago, I pull up and I literally have to push trash out of the way so I can put my feet down on the pavement exiting my truck before entering Circle K. After I do enter, all I want is a cup of coffee, well guess what, no coffee. Only decaf coffee, the rest are empty; again employees outside smoking. One last thing, can you please have them start refilling the receipt paper out on the pumps. They are always empty and we have to walk in for a receipt. It's been so bothersome lately, I may never be back. Just thought you should know what is going on at this location. Now, I must say before I go that I do enjoy all other Circle K locations, this one just has major issues though..
Thank you.
Install Date Keeps Getting Bumped Back
I am one of the unfortunate ones who signed a contract (August 13th of last year) with Cleary without researching them because I liked the salesman compared to the others. Since then, the salesman is gone and another from another state is trying to manage both areas. I gave them $12, 929.00 down payment. The materials were delivered 2 weeks ago and they required another payment of $28, 761.00 upon material delivery which I complied. They were supposed to start a few weeks ago and then again tomorrow (6/8/2016)but with the lack of communication from Cleary (I have to initiate all conversations) They have bumped me again. I wouldn't have known if I hadn't called them this morning. The salesman was going to get back with me today or have a field rep contact me. So far, NOTHING. They are very quick to demand payments but seem to careless about communication or commitments on scheduling or the fact that they have taken all the excitement out of the project. They have $41, 690.00 of mine and I have a pile of lumber in my way and plumbers, electricians and concrete contractors being bumped as well. However, I have been communicating with them. The only resolution for me is to have a crew on site erecting the building. Unfortunately, they have me by the jewels, but I will go out of my way to warn others. Tomorrow I will be filing a formal complaint with the Iowa Attorney General.
My pole barn was scheduled to be built about late October 2015. It was started in middle of December. The carpenter made one of the garage doors approximately 1 foot too small. This couldn't be repaired until spring along with the two holes in roof. However the crew that came to repair door in May didn't have the trim to complete the job. I have been getting run around about when it will arrive since. It is now the middle of July and my pole barn still isn't done.
My name is Joey Loftsgard, and I am a Region Manager for Cleary Building Corp. I personally made contact w/the client immediately Friday morning once the complaint came across my desk. The delays in the start of his building were communicated to Mr. Biffar. I gave Mr. Biffar a timeframe of the Cleary crew being on site, which was at the end of the week. I then tried contacting Mr. Biffar on Monday morning as promised, did not reach him, but left a voicemail confirming the crew would be on site at week’s end, once they completed their current project on the schedule. I made contact with Mr. Biffar via phone on Tuesday to again confirm the game plan. Since then, myself and the local Branch Manager have been in daily contact with Mr. Biffar on the status of the crew being on site. Myself and the Branch Manager will be on site once this building starts, and throughout the process to completion. We will do everything in our power to exceed his expectations moving forward with this project.
Service
The end of July we ordered a 16 X 21 with a 8 foot lean-to barn. We told them we wanted it built the end of Sept. or OCT., since we still had to tear down our old barn and level the site. We have had two delays, nobody bothered to call us an let us know about the delays, we had to call them. This was very frustrating because of missed work.the area manager could of least called and let us know about the delays. The corporate office was notified, We were with the understanding It would be built the 24 th of November, but we were wrong, another delay, we did get a call from James Gardner this time . Now it' scheduled to be built the first of Dec. I understand the weather is a factor in the delays but in the meantime our animals are without shelter. It seems like one delay after another .The area manager cannot pick up the phone and let us know what is gong on. This is the second building we purchased from Cleary. The first one a 30x56 was built in 2011. No problems, everything went like clockwork, that is why we turned to Cleary this time. Different area manager. Lets see if it gets built the first of Dec. It is pretty hard to recommend Cleary to others.
No timeline and nonexistent customer service
Do not use Cleary Building Corp for your building! They are a terrible builder! I will NEVER use them again. Cleary put the "sham" in shamrock.
The following is a condensed list of problems I have had with Cleary:
Cleary Took about 1 year to complete my project which could easily be completed in 3 months time and after claiming build time (after design phase) could be completed in 9 days under optimal conditions (they took this long even though I had given them all the design requirements they needed such as the use of scissor trusses, cable reinforcing, window wall design). The salesman said they would not accept a contract with a time limit built in. How would your business fare if you had to take a one year time-out?
New materials were broken at the unloading stage (trusses, doors). For the broken wall truss, they didn't replace it, they just talked their engineer into signing it off as "OK in damaged condition". How can a broken truss possibly be as strong as a whole one? The window holes in the wall trusses were the wrong size, so their fix was to cut into the truss to make the hole bigger (keep in mind a truss is a structural member intended to keep the building from collapsing) and they got the same engineer to sign off on their "fix". The engineer specified reinforcing the truss, whose directions the crew could not or would not follow and it took them 3 tries to get the fix right. 3 replacements for the same door were required to get a good door, and then it was installed in such a way that it couldn't be opened, even though they said it was "finished".
Other major things had to be repaired 2 or 3 times before they were correct (roof, doors, trusses). The roof had damaged sheets installed, and "missed" screw holes repaired with caulking (about 15 of them); I asked if they had built me a "used building" and Cleary told me this was acceptable as "new construction". Many roof sheets had been replaced 3 times until they got it right. They install the roof metal screws in the valley of the corrugated metal, where the water runs, instead of at the top of the corrugation, where water rarely reaches. When asked, Cleary told me that "We get less leaks this way". I personally think this procedure is used to keep their too-thin roofing from bending upward between screws.
The crew failed to secure wall sheeting in place with enough screws and the wind tore it half down, and beat it against a $600 window. No one offered to come to temporarily fix the problem, I had to get a ladder out and secure it myself, in that same high wind, and no one at Cleary ever offered to replace or repair the window, or even said they were sorry it happened. It was so loud the neighbors thought I was tearing the building down.
The salesman, tech rep, and crews showed to work on the project erratically, late, and rarely on the day they said they were going to be there. They averaged 2 days per week during the building erection phase, and worked an average of 3 hours per day.
Cleary called to ask for the final payment before checking to see if the building was completed (which it was not).
Cleary asked me to accept the building as completed with holes in construction large enough for birds/insects/weather to get through into the building. They said "it won't matter" and "what did you expect?"
They did not secure or seal the door sills. Sills were not supported/founded properly.
They communicated with me (the customer) sparingly and erratically. When I finally called them It was always, "oh, I was about to call you."
The salesman was also the Tech rep- a very bad idea because the salesman had absolutely no engineering or construction sense whatsoever. The salesman took over six weeks to arrange to meet with me, repeatedly "forgot" to check up on my project for deadlines, general progress, and needed materials or support. Then the salesman was put in charge of sinking the column brackets in the wet concrete, 5 of which he got wrong and they had to be cut off, new brackets made, and "dry set" in the correct location.
They could not keep to a schedule that they promised (repeatedly said "in two weeks", over and over and over, until a year had literally gone by).
The crews repeatedly got the company truck stuck in my driveway and they dug holes in my brand new landscaping to get dirt to throw on the ice they got stuck in. They got stuck so bad once that I had to pull them out with my tractor. Cleary does not supply a 4 wheel drive crew truck for their Mountain Region crews. Even in the winter.
They treated me (the customer) as a "[protected]@#$ stepchild burden" (and before you think it, I have stepchildren, and no, I don not treat them that way), not a customer. Their attitude over the phone was that I was a bother that they could barely stand to deal with.
They could not make appointments on time, repeatedly canceled appointments last minute.
The crews left trash loose (not secured) outside in the wind even though a trash container was provided and emptied regularly.
Cleary representatives complained to customer about material supply (we can't get straight lumber") and labor problems ("oil is taking all our people") when asked why schedule/quality was so poor.
When I complained to managers "up the chain of command" I was threatened with "You had better not slander my company or we will take you to court". They promised to "watch over my project" and obviously did not.
In my opinion, Cleary Building is a fly-by-night, shoddy operation that is run with less than minimal crew that spends most of their time creating their own problems.
