Payday Loans Trap You in an Inescapable Cycle of Debt. PLEASE do not Install This App
Hello,
If you are considering using this app, I’m begging that you read this. The Earning App is in essence a payday loan, and I’m going to explain why that is a bad and predatory thing. The way a payday loan works is that you are given quick cash now in exchange for a portion of your paycheck on the next payday. But this loan doesn’t have the normal rate of interest that another loan would.
Normally you need to be approved for a loan for your house, car, or any other major purchase. This way, the bank can ensure that you are safe to lend money to (that you’re going to pay them back). This is why their interest rates are relatively low. For a car loan this averages out to 5.5%. But the interest isn’t a one-time thing, it is constantly being added back to how much you owe that bank.
Let’s say you buy a car for $8000, and that the bank is adding the interest to the debt every year. You start off owing them $8440, but let’s say you’ve paid off $2000 by the end of year one. You might think your debt is $6440, but because we keep adding the 5.5%, it is now $6794. At the end of the day, you will pay back the bank ~$9200, which is a lot more than the $8400 you thought you would pay.
A house will usually have an interest rate of ~3% because it is deemed safer. Houses don’t loose value in the way cars do, and if you don’t pay them back, the bank can sell your house and get the money back. And here is where we get into the biggest problems with payday loans. The lender doesn’t have anything specific that they can take if you don’t repay the debt, and there isn’t much if any background check for receiving a payday loan. If you think 5.5% APR on the car was bad, payday loans usually have annual interest rates of 350-500% or more!
If you are consistently struggling to make it paycheck to paycheck, this app is not going to help you. All you are doing is loosing money on the next paycheck, which means that the only way you can make it is to... that’s right, take out another payday loan. People have their financial lives ruined because they don’t understand how risky and irresponsible it is to take out a payday loan. So if you are considering using this app, please reconsider. I’m begging you. If you’re on the edge of missing rent, this app might help you pay it this month, but eventually you will be homeless and your credit will be ruined, making it harder to get an apartment in the future.
The thing that pisses me off the most about this app is that it seems to be targeted towards lower income people, young people, and people of color. I see that most of my friends in their late teens or early 20’s get this add a lot. So do my Black and Hispanic friends. But you know who I never see getting this add? My white male friend in his late 20’s. This is predatory and wrong.
Yup, Fast, Reliable, Trustworthy, and it Works!
Hi there everyone, I usually don’t do many reviews, but Earning has become a part of my routine now, I can use anytime, and if I don’t want to, I just don’t there’s no hidden fees, minuscules letters of terms and conditions and they don’t end up calling you up saying they want to take your life either! Awesome right!?
Jokes aside, “Earnin” truly has been indeed part of my routine, every paycheck I have the power to either cash out once more, or just let they charge for the previous debt I had from the last cash out.
It’s a seamless and convenient app, and it doesn’t ask for much, there’s no application for approval, they don’t ask you for so much personal information to the point they know more about you than yourself; truly an awesome platform.
They do ask IF you’d like to TIP them, with whatever amount you think it’d be fair. And if you’d like to add a bigger TIP for also the next person, creating a “Chain Of Happiness” as they like to say. For certain banks, the cash out is instantaneous, like mine, Capital One.
I have been NOT giving any tips so far, because, you know, why would I, but after using “Earnin” for so long - about 2-3 months -, I mean, they DO deserve it. So today I started giving them tips.
Using “Earnin” has been so worry-free that I started taking it for granted for any time of need.
“OOPS, my bank has a negative balance!” Earnin just walks in and solves it for you!
”OOHH! I wish I had just a bit of cash to take my girlfriend out!”. Here comes Earnin and becomes your best friend ever paying for you date!
Possibilities becomes unlimited and it's not limited to a fixed amount! Be consistent with the payments, keep your bank balance positive and try to make it positive with a bigger amount over time and your limit will automatically increase, a increase that is up to 500 dollars!
”BUT THERE'S A CATCH!”
YOU YOURSELF, the user, have to be wise on using and managing your money, understand that in your next paycheck from work, Earnin will automatically take the money that is due, Unlike credit cards, they are like a loan company that charges no fees at all for as long as you use their services and can stop using it at ant time after what you pay what is due. Once your paycheck is direct deposited from your bank Eaning holds the rights to withdraw the amount that is due to them from your last cash out. So be wise with your expenses!
They also have a holiday setting that they can delay the day that they collect your debt in case your direct deposit falls into a holiday and your money only becomes available the next business day or the day after the weekend. So they are pretty flexible considering all things.
Anyways, thumbs up for Earnin!
And I wouldn’t mind having a limit increase on my account for the review though! Hehehehehe. ✌️
A must have as a teenager starting out on their own!
This really saved my butt so many times with gas money and food! I am so grateful for the easy to use interface and the BANGIN customer service! Always get a response in no later than 15 minutes. I will continue to use this and tell EVERYONE I know about it. Thank you!
Edit 12/14: I have decided to update my review on earnin as my experience has greatly declined over the months. The problems first began when my bank was no longer able to connect with the app for no apparent reason. I could not connect and no matter how many times I reset my bank password and sent screenshots to earnin proving I was able to log into my account they were not able to help because they said that it was my bank locking them out and not allowing 3rd party connections. I contacted my bank and they had no clue what I was talking about and said that they had not blocked anything. After letting earnin know this they subsequently closed my ticket and said they would get back to me when they figured out a solution. This happened over the course of a month and I was never contacted back with an update. I was only allowed to reconnect my bank when earnin revamped their app and somehow the app update fixed my situation. My second issue is that now instead of responding to me in minutes, or even a day, customer service is now taking up to an entire week to get back to me with basic questions. I have never had a max increase, I actually ended up getting a $50 decrease in september because I was having issues with overdrafts which was understandable, but I have not had an issue since and I have still, in the nearly 3 months AKA 6 pay periods, have not “qualified” for an increase! Not even the $50 that I had lost! I decided to open a ticket and message them about it, and after nearly a week with no response they finally responded saying that they were closing my ticket because of their new “chat” function where you can click “Contact Us” in the help section and chat with someone to get help quicker. I respond saying that when I click that button it brings me right back to my ticket and I would appreciate if they would just respond to me within the ticket as they always have before. I eventually got another response days later again telling me my ticket was being closed due to them wanting us to utilize their new chat function, and that the max increase and decreases are an automated process and I just need to keep doing exactly what I have been for the past 3 months and eventually the system will “recognize” this and it will happen over some time. I am extremely disappointed in my experience with this app, and after using it consistently for so long and telling everyone I know about it and even considering making a video on youtube to share it with more people, I will no longer rave about this app to anyone. I will continue to use it because I NEED to, but I will also continue to look for other options out there.
It WAS ok
I really loved the idea that I could get my paycheck a little earlier than usual. But then I’ve noticed multiple times while contacting customer support how they keep saying repetitive things over and over. I feel literally ignored. I closed an account a few months ago because of issues I was having with it but I’ve made another account and each time I contact them it’s always “Thank you for getting back to us with your screenshot.
Upon checking your account, I can see that you closed it.
I'm really sorry to hear that you want to close your account. If you have any feedback for us, we'd love to hear any suggestions on how we can improve the app or support experience” LIKE SERIOUSLY! They brush off any issue I have with this message when I can clearly still use my app but just under a different email. secondly not my account is on a temporary hold and I have to owe 58 dollars that they claimed that “There is a temporary hold on your account because we had some trouble taking money out of your bank account on [04/11].” They also said I tried going into my account to take out money on a certain date when I am barely on the app itself. I have a son on the way and medical problems I have to much to worry about than an app. The fact that they are claiming this and then recently said I owed 100 dollars. For what I do not know. Yes I’ve spoken to customer service I’ve done it all and the issue still hasn’t been resolved. I remember about a week or 2 weeks ago when I got paid the app said I could cash out on a Friday and I got paid that Friday and all of a sudden my account has been on hold and I can’t touch my own money because they are saying I owed 58 dollars because they had trouble taking money out of my own account. I’m all kinds of confused and before anybody tells me I’m not gonna continue contacting customer service if nothing is being resolved and my account is still on hold. That is no way my fault when I pressed for my account to cash out & it took 5 days before the 58 dollars actually came into my account. So how exactly did my bank not post how is it my fault for getting my own money. They should have stopped it before it actually
Got into my account now I have to owe money that I’ve earned right back to them. Like what sense does that make. I’m so fed up and the money I took take out is for emergencies. They also tell me to screen shot this screen shot that my entire pictures in my phone is nothing but screen shots they keep asking for. The other day they told me send a bank statement of the 58 dollars with the last 4 digits of my card number to see if it went into my account and I did just that they still claimed it wasn’t enough. Really. So 58 dollars that has been successfully posted into my account with proof and they are still having my account on hold and claiming it’s my bank. I didn’t have any issue until using this app and my bank had nothing to do with it. I don’t know what more to do but this is ridiculous... something needs to be done
Dangerous to Your Bank Acct
This app has been fantastic in the past. Always 5 star & I wrote a lengthy review on the awesome service. Unfortunately they have become too greedy and or over reliant on AI, not sure which. 1st, I have never had a payment returned or any problem with my paybacks at all. My available amount has consistently moved up until it hit the max. Over the last 2 pay periods, they have sent their withdrawals for payback to my bank TWO days before my payday, apparently because their algorithm told them Wednesday is my payday. My payday is FRIDAY. I have established this with them. I submitted documents when I set up my Earnin acct. Sometimes my bank releases the payment Wednesday, but this is a new thing from my bank. I bank with Chase & anybody who is familiar with Chase knows they have never been part of the make your paycheck available early group. They have just started doing this, so maybe it will continue, but the other thing is that IF they release it on Wednesday, they do it in the afternoon. Earnin has sent my payback withdrawals thru at midnight on TUESDAY to get their money on Wednesday when it hits the bank. So the first time, I got up Wednesday morning shocked by a low balance alert from my account. I was beyond confused and ended up contacting Earnin thinking it would be a quick easy resolve because they’ve always been great to work with. No resolve. They basically read me their policy. I KNEW what the policy said already. My question was WHAT has been changed and WHY does Earnin believe it is acceptable? Fast forward to TODAY. I just got a notice from my bank that I am overdrawn. I had a couple of hundred dollars in my account. EARNIN has again put a payback thru on Tuesday at midnight to hit my acct first thing Wednesday morning even though my official payday is Friday and gets deposited Thursday at midnight. Hopefully my bank will release my paycheck this afternoon if they receive the direct deposit early which should eliminate any possible fees, but this has now damaged my standing with my bank by showing my account to be overdrawn in THEIR automated system. I understand the business side of this, and honestly would not be opposed to them sending the withdrawal through Wednesday afternoons since Chase has started making it available then, but something has to change or I will be closing my Earnin account. It saddens me because I have loved this service and shared it with others who have then joined. I cannot recommend a service that is going to potentially damage my credit and my bank account. I raised my credit score almost 50 points over the past few months and I’m not going to let automation gone bad mess that up. My bank account standing is important and I’m certainly not going to risk it over this nonsense. Hopefully, Earnin finds a fix that is fair to their customers. In the meantime, BEWARE! If you needed some money between paydays, pretty sure you don’t want to end up with insane fees because Earnin decided to randomly send your payback before you get paid.
100% Works — One Issue
I decided to give them a try since the concept wasn’t too new, but the idea was actually executed properly. Like a payday loan, minus the fees and interests! The community is a gift of giving and is funding itself by paying tips. The greater the tip, the higher chances other people can get access to the funds they need as well. It’s like a circle chain.
The Great Part:
- The sign up process can vary. I believe for myself, it took one day to process. For others, it can be done in 30 mins or up to a week. Again, it varies on how much you earn, payment schedule, salary vs hourly, etc... My company name isn’t listed in the common company search criteria, but I was able to geotag the location. Once you’ve established this much, you need to submit a picture of your payroll or static schedule. Keep in mind, if you have direct deposit, salary, or work full time, then the process will be more rapid. It’s harder for people who are self employed.
- Being a single father, I have a extra layer of financial security under my belt. I see it being used as a means for emergency funds not to piss away and pay back. I get paid biweekly so my earning started from $200 and now its around $1200. It varies from weeks to days. It started off small, but since I do not spend it all, it increases. The increases are based off your monthly income or how consistent your pay checks are. I am not going to say how much I make here but, it will vary for everyone. Just remember to tip nicely, (~10%) and don’t borrow more than you can afford. This will put you in a bigger red when you need to payback. If you can balance Earnin App with your finances, then this tool can be vary useful to those who like an extra layer of financial security. To be honest, I just take out $20 or $50 time to time to tip the community back each time I borrow. Seldomly do I need to take out $100. I can, however take up to $200 out. It’
- It has earning card points on purchases. Some good deals up to 5% back. This is an extra free feature
The Bad:
I work and study for Cyber Security, and if privacy is a huge concern for you, then you might want to know that this app needs to use your location 24/7. Yes you can disable it, or use it only while viewing the application. But, if you disable it, then you will not be able to receive any earned income. If you use it only while viewing the application, then you are prone to forget to open it while working or it will receive inaccurate readings. The choice is up to you, but just giving you a heads up. This can increase battery drainage as well. Just informing the public.
This is the only reason why I give it 4/5. It does everything it advertises 100%, but the 24/7 location is a little turn off, I think the devs should only allow location usage while working around end users schedule, and then turned off while the user is not working. Just gives them a better sense of security. The 256bit encryption is fine, as I’m sure its using the latest AES algo’s. The GLBA is enforced here, so this means they need to be in compliance. This app isn’t a scam.
FIND A BETTER APP
I am really disappointed with earnin. I really loved this app at first and now I regret relying on it and hoping they will change my max. When I first started out it was great! My max got raised faster and quicker but not too long after that let’s say 6 months in, it started decreasing despite my efforts to keep the suggested requirements such as ,never spending more than you earn, keeping a positive bank account balance, having money there when they debit your account on payday, etc.
I thought okay I will work harder to let them see I am complying with what they are asking in order to receive the highest possible max. I was wrong! They kept on decreasing it and it eventually only reached 100 dollars where I was used to 350. Even then I was trying to get it increased but by the time I reached 350 that’s when it all started to decrease.
You would think that what is going on in the world right now would be highly considered. I believe the system does not generate properly that I am doing what they ask in order to receive the max. I have been waiting for a whole year and still no change! How is that even possible?!? I laugh a little at that because I have invested in earnin and trusted they would increase my Max. Whenever I try to get help through the app I get the same answer that the max is increased by you following a list of certain things you should do to help that increase. ALL of which I have already done and have been doing in order to try and recieve this.
This app could work wonders if it considered the corona virus impacting working people right now. I think a lot of other APPs and company’s or business’ are doing what they can to help people in these times and earnin seems to just make it harder. Which is not what anyone needs right now. I think you guys should really consider how this app can actually help those in need right now but when your basically telling us we can’t because we don’t meet up with the list of things to do even if we have already done it , it starts to make me think you guys are withholding for other reasons you do not discuss on the app. VERY frustrating I will be switching to another. I have heard nothing but great reviews from other apps and will be taking myself there. I can’t believe I wasted a year with earnin just for them to keep my max at 150. My last ask is to please consider allowing people to reach a max easier, please understand that if people are spending more than what they make right now it’s because the only money they have is what your allowing them to take. Please consider that covid-19 has caused a lot of people to adjust and adapt to financial changes. It would be great if the app really understood that. I think it’s the system you guys use. Really unfair and unhelpful. In these times people will remember which company’s, business’, or small business’ did to help them in a time where the whole world was struggling economically. I will remember earnin WAS NOT there and looked out more for themselves then the people they claim to serve. Good day, please take this review into deep consideration and download another app.
Second review
So this will be my second review, and just like last time, I am quite upset with Earnin! So to begin I’d like to say that they definitely redeemed themselves from the 1 star I previously rated them with. I’d wish that I didn’t have to come back for another bad review but it seems like things don’t change.
So, the problem here is that my hours worked are not being made available. Ok this has happened before, though before I wasn’t in the crisis I am in now, but I guess I should take some blame since I didn’t nip it in the bottom right there and then.
So I contact support which has to be the worst support group ever because it’s literally predetermined replies based on match words. So you’re practically talking to a bot, and when you do happen to sense personality in a reply it’s their only reply and then back to predetermined replies until the next person glances your ticket to give you the same reply as the last 50 replies!
It’s ridiculous but that leads to the next problem!
Communication between the support team is terrible, reason being is that I am told one thing only to get another representative on the same ticket to start from square one to get to a conclusion that was totally different from the other representative! Try sticking to one representative until close of ticket or have better communication, and the only reason that another representative should be appointed is when it’s a floor manager or lead!
Also, for the love of peace, start accepting time punch sheets! If my gps indicates that I’m here and I have a time sheet to prove just that, just because it’s not on a computer or tech, somehow that makes it less credible than the digitized sheets.
Back to my situation.
I contact support about hours worked, they say to reset gps and give another try. I know it’s not my gps causing problems but I oblige anyways. Ok they confirm that they accurately tracked my hours. They tell me to wait 3-4 business days for it to be posted. Cool.
Next day, I go to work, just to be on the safe side I contact them again just to confirm that my gps was working properly... yup it was and it was confirmed. Same generic 3-4 days. Cool
I wait the 4 days and nothing has posted yet, and so I contact support again, and guess what they say, with a couple phrases changed and words rearranged, they tell me the exact same reset gps and wait 3-4 days. Uncool but I oblige.
Now I’m getting irritated but still keeping a cool head, just now I’m not waiting 3-4 business days I’m trying have this resolved now. I keep contacting and they keep giving me the same generic responses of it being my fault and my gps is uncalibrated, which is false, I contacted Apple support and follow their instructions and my gps is perfectly fine.
Keep in mind I have screenshots of everything.
So I get a lady that says that she’ll get it fixed right away but when I send requested documents I get a reply from a totally new representative saying that my punch card was not accepted, even though I was just told I could...! So now I am writing this!
Seriously debating if I should just part ways and count my loss.
Bᴇ ᴄᴀʀᴇғᴜʟ!
I’m reluctant to give 2 stars because of the convenience but do think they deserve that at least. Because…This app IS a great idea.
However, after I pay back my max out I will never use the app again. Especially after reading all the negative reviews about going into debt because of then. And it’s so true.
It would be a very helpful app ɪғ ᴛʜᴇʏ ᴡᴏᴜʟᴅ ʜᴇʟᴘ ᴀ ᴄᴜsᴛᴏmer sᴛᴏᴘ ᴀ ᴡɪᴛʜᴅʀᴀᴡl ᴛʜᴀᴛ ɪs ᴀᴜᴏᴍᴀᴛɪᴄᴀʟʟʏ ᴅᴏɴᴇ ᴡʜᴇɴ ʏᴏᴜ sɪɢɴ ᴜᴘ ᴀᴘᴘᴀʀᴇɴᴛʟʏ.
I’ve had this app for several months and in those several months I have had numerous (at least $150) in overdraft fees charged to my bank account because Eᴀʀɴɪɴ’ continues to auto-save $50 from my check every week.
I’ve contacted customer service at least five times over this situation and continue to get the runaround and told that I have to edit the auto-save feature myself & I could not find at first and have since edited it I THOUGHT but again today, my bank- (that I switched to fortunately -an online fake bank) informed me that my auto-save could not be withdrawn thankfully because of a low balance.
*We Are Unable to Process AutoSave Deposit
Hey,
Your Chime Bank Account recently reported a low bank balance. Therefore, your scheduled AutoSave deposit for $50 for was not processed. Your next AutoSave deposit is scheduled for .
Thanks, Team Earnin
***There’s another one scheduled, see that?***
Mind you, I have talked to them at least five times to get them to stop this autos-save and they keep telling me to do it myself (i swear) and I finally did last week I thought and again ᴛᴏᴅᴀʏ ᴛʜᴇʏ tried to do it again!
I also contacted them about the MULTIPLE overdraft fees that I’ve incurred because of their previous withdrawals and was told that it’s my fault and they cannot do anything about it because "our customers are supposed to be mindful of their account balance on their own".
WHAT!?!? SERIOUSLY?
Had they not taken the money out again and again and again after I basically begged them to help me fix it, I wouldn’t have gotten overdraft fees.
I’ve tried everything and it’s STILL trying to take my money. Yes, this is a great idea and could be a very helpful app when times are tough - just "be mindful" of their autosave feature and don’t do it because they make it impossible to fix after the fact and WILL Not help you. At least customer service won’t .
I REALLY dislike writing reviews like this (my first one) however, after multiple attempts of asking them to help me change this to fix the situation and being told that I have to do it myself, I feel that it is ɪᴍᴘᴇʀᴀᴛɪᴠᴇ that I let others know that you are on your own when you join the site.
Hopefully I will save someone a few overdraft fees at least.
Earnin, y’all really need a new support team and a few policies changed. You would really be making some money if you didn’t put your customers in debt instead of helping them out of it.
If I get a response from you and some help finally, I will update this review. But until then, I’m going to write a blog post about it and trust me, anyone that looks you up, WILL find my review on Google.
Gᴇᴛ ɪᴛ ᴛᴏɢᴇᴛʜᴇʀ ᴇᴀʀɴɪɴ' .
Don’t expect to get advanced $100 the same week you sign up!
I mean it does what they claim. It give you an advance from your paycheck. But I signed up for it for Xmas so buying gifts wouldn’t leave me so broke. I signed up beginning/mid December. It took 2 days for the app to actually get set up and everything approved and check with my bank. Think I had to keep resending the same pic of my pay check stub 8-9 times before it finally accepted it. It says I’m able to use lightening speed to get the advanced right away. But I’ve only used the app twice and it’s taken 24-48 hours before I could get the money. Also if your are in a career like I am (HVAC service tech) I spend all day driving to businesses and homes repairing their Ac/heat the app requires you to put in a physical address so it can track you and see when you are work and how many hours that day you where at that physical address you stated was your work. Well I’m never at my company’s office. I’ll go to drop off and pick up stuff but that’s about it. So far I’ve only been able to cash out around 20 bucks my first time and 11 bucks my second time using it. And that was for 4-5 days of working 8-10 hour days but since I hardly went to the office the app didn’t include the rest of my work time. I just did cash out the $11 just to see if maybe my second time using it, it would actually give me the money instantly like lightening speed claims it does. So yes the app works but I’d go ahead and sign up for it and use it weeks before you may actually need it for an emergency or something. Id assume most people who sign up for this app will usually need the money almost right away or at least within 24 hours and more than likely that’s not going to happen if you just signed up for it then. It has to learn your routine. It has to verify and check all the info you entered and check with your bank and your bank account. Maybe it works much better for people who work in a different field than I do and are st an office or one place all day. But yes the app does work but don’t assume your going to sign up and the first week or 2 that your going to be able to go to work and get a $75-100 advance because chances are that’s not going to happen. And so far I’ve yet to receive any money right away. The app tracks you and it has to learn your work routine and the more you use it the more they are willing to advance you. But best advise if you’ve considered the app but haven’t had a reason to sign up for it yet, just go ahead and sign up before there is an emergency or your broke and need the money ASAP because that’s not gonna happen. So go ahead sign up let it learn your work routine and even if you don’t need to just go ahead and Start getting advances 1-2 times a week for 5-10 bucks just so you are building a relationship with them and able to get them to advance you more money. But make sure you have the money in your account when they go to take it out when you get paid again. And make sure you tip! Because when the day comes and you really need the money if you haven’t been ripping and they aren’t able to get their money back when you get paid again then they aren’t going to advance you much money when you really need it! Good luck everyone
Discriminates against public safety
So the “developer” responded with a canned answer and STILL can’t tell me why I was able to use the app service TWICE and then all of a sudden not. They refuse to look into this which is either a massive failure of their time tracking system or a massive failure of their app. I’m not sure I’d trust my money to a company that is unwilling to investigate when their sole function fails in such a spectacular way
I continue to try and give this app a chance but they continually show a contempt and discrimination against anyone in public safety. I have asked for specifics on how I was able to get two advances despite having no central work address since I drive. Every time customer service goes in a chat they just copy and paste answers and refuse to answer questions.
Any suggestions on how to get this information out there would be appreciated . The ads they run are very misleading and the truth about the app needs to be publicized
The Developer responded to this and it’s the poorest most generic response I’ve ever seen. First of all the app IS available. In fact I was able to use it TWICE all the while following my work pattern. Then INEXPLICABLY it wouldn’t let me use the advance and I was given the reason because I don’t sit at an address and I have to drive for my jobs so the app can’t verify that I have a job... yet they can see my direct deposits every two weeks in the same amounts on the same pattern without fail.
So instead of actually reading what was written they just popped up a canned answer. That doesn’t look like very good app and customer support. It’s lazy and generic. Don’t trust your money to a company that can’t take the time to resolve issues that shouldn’t be issues. They couldn’t even be bothered to look at the details provided herein and respond to them.
This app does not work if you drive or travel for work. Their support discriminates against drivers, deliveries, police, fire, ems.
@@ update their poor response to their online help system and after repeated emails they simply will NOT accommodate you if you work in one department but your checks come from another part of the govt. they also won’t accommodate you if you don’t work at a single location IE if you work patrol or in multiple areas or if you are a delivery driver with no centralized location.
What tells me they are liars is I was able to successfully use the app TWICE and both transfers went in and were paid back with no problem. Their automated system had verified my paycheck but then the wheels came off. They had NO explanation as to why I couldn’t continue to use the app and just started making up answers contradicting their other answers. They verified my checks and deposits going back for months and their repayment went through easy as pie. So abruptly refusing to allow me to use the app came as a surprise. But... instead of actually fixing the problem the help desk rep just made up any lie they could to avoid actually “helping”
The short answer is if you don’t have a centralized office location and if you don’t fit their profile for what they believe a worker is then they will not work with you.
Keep this in mind public safety workers, delivery drivers, and anyone who works hard for a living but doesn’t have a single work location or fit their model of punching a clock.
Earnin ALWAYS comes through when you need it!
I’ve been using Earnin for a little over a year now so I feel like I have enough experience with them at this point to leave an honest review so bare with me on how long this may be lol. When you first start off your pay period max is pretty low because they want you to build a relationship with them over time and prove you’re worth loaning to. Credit cards are the exact same way so nothing crazy there. They even give you insight on how to raise your max quicker- make sure they can get paid back first thing when you get paid (send a screenshot of your bank account if needed to speed up the process), use them as often as you can to show you’re good for the usage, and recommend your coworkers to use them as well (the more people that use them in your company the easier it is for them to establish that bond and get paid back themselves). I’ve had the max amount, $500, for a while now and I think the most it’s dropped is like $50. So yes it is possible to get a higher max per pay period, just be patient. I’ve never once had an issue with their money hitting my checking account or them withdrawing their funds. They take it out first thing in the morning on the day I get paid, unless it falls on a holiday and it hits the day before. Keep in mind your job should be paying you the day before as well so you don’t get affected by this. As for tips- that’s my favorite thing about this app. You literally get to choose how much you want to tip, if anything, on the amount you borrow. They offer a really cool thing once you tip $6 that says it covers your tip and helps the next person. We end up starting a train like this and it feels amazing to know you were able to help someone who needed the extra money but doesn’t have enough to tip themselves. And you get to send cute little thank you messages to the person who covered your tip. Lastly, keep in mind that Earnin isn’t a means of living. They’re there when and if you need them but shouldn’t be something you rely on. That’s like borrowing money from a friend every other day then getting upset when they tell you sorry, I can’t let you borrow anymore money until next week. Personally, Earnin has saved my tail numerous times when unexpected bills charge my bank account early or I want a night out with friends but am low on funds until payday. Those $100 cash outs are literally life savings sometimes. One thing I will say to be cautious about is to watch how much you borrow if money management isn’t your strong place. It’s easy to constantly cash out to hit your max and forget about until you’re left with a could hundred bucks on pay day after they get reimbursed. So once again, use it when needed but don’t rely on it or make it a habit to max out every two weeks. As for those who are suggesting Dave instead of Earnin- y’all are crazy! Coming from somehow who’s used both Earnin is hands down a million times better. With Earnin there is no monthly fee, whether it’s just a $1 or not like Dave. You can cash out up to $500 with Earnin compared to only $75 with Dave, unless you open a bank account with them and even then it’s only like $100 lol. And lastly Earnin delivers your money at lightening speed, within minutes FOR FREE. With Dave you have to wait like a week for the funds to hit your account unless you pay an extra $5 to get the money instantly. It’s ridiculous. So yeah, Earnin is hands down the best loan option you could use.
I thought this was going to be a life changer but it’s disappointing instead
So I’ve had this app for a while but because I’ve been busy with work and family matters, I never got the chance to make a review on this. I’m usually not the one to make a review but because I’m still upset by what happened, I just want to share my experience to others to give you both my good opinion and bad one. This app definitely tracks down your pay correctly and is on time with your daily earning from your job, however, when it comes to taking out money, this is where for me, it went wrong. I’ve seen a lot of good reviews about this app so I decided to try it myself since at the time, I was in need of some money. So I downloaded he app and added what they needed from me and eventually, my account was completely set up. So there was a day I needed some cash fast and because my pay day wasn’t for a while later, I wanted to try and see if I can take out my Earnin from the app and transfer it to my account. So I took out $100 and waited for it to be deposited to my account. They said it was going to be deposited on Thursday, which was only like 3 days from the day I made the transfer so I was really excited. Sorry to burst the bubble, but that didn’t happen and it wasn’t until a week later, they deposited it, basically, a day before I got paid and I was disappointed because not only did I find it was unnecessary to take it out in the first place, when I received a notification saying the money was transferred to my account, I went to go look, and the money WASNT there! Now just imagine not receiving the money you worked very hard, long hours for- I was fuming! So I went to talk with the apps customer support and prior to talking to them, I made sure to verify my bank account and the information it 3 times, and when I was talking to them, they were telling me it was I who made an error on my end. I was very upset hearing this because who would want to even try making an error when writing out their bank information on an app that basically keeps track of your money? I had to explain myself and basically point out how rude it was for the resin to accuse me when I gave them proof that there was no error with my account information and my bank information. They said they couldn’t do anything because the money was sent out already so I had to talk with my bank. So I waited until I left work the next day to go and talk with a representative at the nearest bank and they told me that they weren’t able to do anything or find where the wired transact was because it wasn’t under their bank and the money transaction was done on the app. I went back to the customer support to explain this to them because I have before it they told me nonetheless to go to the bank so when I tried explaining them what I had already, they didn’t help and said there was nothing they could do. Now not only am I furious that my $100 is gone (since that’s ad the max to take out and I was in desperate need of money at the time of taking it out), they couldn’t do anything despite being the ones who let the transaction through. All my bank information is correct and everything is accurate because they have my information yet they can’t find where the money went even though they were the ones who made the transaction go through. My point to you reviewers is don’t take out any money. I do t want you guys go through the stress and frustration I did with losing a third of my paycheck for unknown reasons.
INCOMPETENT SCAMMER CSR and horrible working App
Do not give these people your personal information. I had been a user of over 10 advances when I need some extra cash.. about 2 months ago I started getting notifications that’s my bank disconnected or my deposit wasn’t able to be seen through the app. Literally every single time I wanted to use it I had to send every personal piece of information I had about myself and my earnings to a random customer service rep.
They were asking for social security, pay stubs, screen shots of deposits over and over. When they limit your account they ask for a screen shot of the deposit into your account because they couldn’t locate it on their end. THEY MAKE IT SEEM like that’s all you need to correct your account. After you proved that they then start asking for WAY TO personal of information almost like it’s a set up.
Today I just about had it. Spoke with about 8 people and when they don’t have an answer they just disconnect from you. That’s what they are taught… these customer service reps DO NOT have clearance to actually help you with anything and they copy/paste from a script!
I Ended up with this horrible rep “Ailen” they would demand documents and after I would explain to them and they would copy and paste the same exact response. “I totally understand your concerns” like I would say or explain something in depth and take my time to explain and they just copy/past the same response even when it has NOTHING to do with what you said. They “TOTTTALLLY UNDERSTAND OUR CONCERNS”
They are taught to ask for your important information and documents and proceed to ignore what you ask or explain and then just re ask over and over.. if they don’t get anywhere they will disconnect from you so you start over with a new rep.
They don’t comprehend how things work properly. For example, My bank account has protocols on account numbers so when looking in from the outside there is an extra digit typically 0 added to the end. They for the life of them could not comprehend this protocal and would continuously tell me I had the wrong account linked because it ended in this extra digit. I would go in depth explaining it’s to help prevent fraud if someone got my account number called in and gave the bank that number with that Digit. As a member we know not to include that so they would know it’s fraud.
Earnin reps cannot comprehend things beyond basic things. They then reply with what I mentioned above “I totally understand your concerns….” Then completely respond with a response that completely ignores or blows off everything you just tried to explain to them. This Ailen kept doing this over and over and over. It’s not worth the hassle go use Celo, Dave, Bridget, Klover.
It’s not my fault your software is glitching and flagging my account. I sent them everything they asked for multiple times and they act like they are going to fix it and then give you some excuse why they can’t or will tell you to wait while they see what they can do, next thing you know BAM they disconnect. I have an entire YouTube video review showing these text exchanges and my experience with this company I hope everyone watches. I will edit this with my YouTube channel so you all can see how these people operate and try to screw with their own customers.
THERE ARE SO MANY other options do not waste your time with “Earnin” you will regret it.
Again, cheaper better alternatives - Dave, Klover, Cleo, Brigit go check those out!
Decent but fraudulent reviews
So I like the app. But I hate it at the same time...
This app is mediocre at its best. I can barely say that this is app is alright. Mainly due to the fact that it consistently has erroneous information... (earnin app will show that I have let’s just say NEGATIVE $30 dollars in my bank account, when in reality (my banks app) I have POSITIVE $200 in my account. So it’s showing inaccurate amounts and in turn this error prevents me from cashing out.
As far as the fraudulent reviews are concerned... I saw people writing that after “stumbling upon this app” it took 10-24 hours to verify and link their bank account and then they were able to cash out $100. This is actually impossible. Because this app uses geofencing or geotagging...or whatever it’s actually called, to verify when you’re physically at your place of employment. (It adds available funds based on your pay rate, and how much time, THAT WEEK, you’ve spent at work.) It also needs you to send pay stubs so it knows your hourly pay rate. Therefore, technically, if you download the app today. Chances are, you aren’t cashing out any money for at least like 2-3 days. And then, and only then, You can only cash out what you’ve accumulated up until that point. So once everything is linked, you still have to go to work for however many hours would earn you $100...in order to cash out up to $100.
Also if you don’t tip (which is optional), then you’re stuck at a max cash out of $100 a week. As opposed to, tipping regularly, and being able to cash out $400 a week. (At $100 a day MAX increments.) Mind you, they want you to tip for EACH AND EVERY daily cash out. And if you don’t, your max cash out will decrease. I was at one point able to cash out $400 a week, because i was tipping the max ($9) every cash out. (Approx $36 a week, if you take the whole $400.) And now I’m down to $100 MAX cash out a week, because in a two week period, where i was having even more financial troubles, I only tipped $5 on two of the cash outs in that two week period. As opposed to tipping on all 8 of the cash outs.
So now I refuse to tip them ever again, and I’ll just stay at my $100 advance. And they make $0 off of me. If I’m tipping. It’s for a service well done. If you constantly have incorrect information, won’t let me cash out to bring my account to positive, and also debit me into the negative so I’m forced to pay a $35 overdraft fee to my bank...then yeah you probably won’t receive a tip. Tipping is based on being pleased/ satisfied with a service properly and well performed. Earnin fails in this category. If my optional tip directly affects how much I can cash out. It’s not so optional is it? So yeah...whomp whomp
Also, side note, unlike other apps such as “Dave App”, EARNIN will debit you, causing you to be overdrawn and subject to your banks overdraft fees. The Dave App actually checks your account. And will take all of your money up until you’re at $0, and nothing more, so you don’t receive any overdraft fees from your bank. And then you have the option to pay off whatever else is owed at a later date. Earnin on the other hand (having erroneous bank account information to start with) will debit you right into the negative causing an overdraft.
Now, let’s say your account is -$5.00, earnin will not let you cash out and get your account into positive because “we want to prevent you from overdrawing”. Anybody see the problem here. You’ll debit me into the negative so I have an overdraft fee. But then in a separate instance, won’t let me cash out to get me out of the negative, which could actually LEGIT save me from an overdraft fee. Flawed. I started writing this with a 3 star rating. But I’m gonna scroll up and change it to 1 star. Sorry, not sorry. But you guys need to iron this sh*** out
Earnin system is severely flawed
1 - ONE STAR
Earnin is the real deal. However, not without a serious fault
This came in real handy a while back when I really needed it. However, now I’m living paycheck-to-paycheck and will be for another two months (October is a three paycheck month for me).
I haven’t been this stressed over finances for a while. I can’t put anything into savings at the moment and I also cannot afford to be sick even just for a single day. I would tip less, not because I don’t value the app, but to help get me back on track sooner. However, I feel like if I stop tipping, the amount I can withdraw will go down and I definitely cannot afford to have that either.
I tried resolving this issue a couple months back when I messaged their support team. I was really embarrassed to ask for help, I don’t particularly enjoy being a burden on others or asking for support. I did it anyway because I grew tired of being in a state of financial despair.
I asked Earnin’s support team if it was at all possible to split the payment in two. I’ll pay the first half on my next paycheck date and the second half on my next paycheck date. I explained that I was caught in a loop and apologized for any convenience this might cause and that I would understand if splitting the payment in half would not be an option.
To my relief one of Earning’s support members responded very promptly and said while they normally don’t do this they’ll make an exception. Earnin sent me an e-mail to rate the support I was given. Needless to say I gave him a perfect rating. I was already happy that we could resolve my issue but after I gave him a great review you could choose to buy them something. I’m pretty sure it was between a meal, coffee, and something else (excuse my memory). And I just thought about what a great company Earnin really is.
However, this is where things take a dive. The support representative told me that is what would happen but that’s not what actually happened. The payment was split but not equal, the first one being more. I was going off of the information he told me and paid bills and groceries accordingly. Since the payment wasn’t split in half, and the larger sum came first, it threw off my budget, putting me back to where I was.
I was going to message Earnin’s support team again to discuss what happened and if there was something we could do but like I said earlier, I already have a difficult time asking for help. Doing it again, that soon, would have just made me feel even worse.
The main update I would like to see is being able to split the payments in two, since the largest possible amount you can take out is $500, or if you have an established history with Earnin, you could pay it back in one month versus two weeks.
Just be careful when you use Earnin. I’m not saying it’s not a great app, I’m still giving them 4-stars for many reasons. I’ll just list them:
- safe and secure, no scams
- get your cash incredibly fast, within minutes
- up to $500 withdrawal (done in $100 increments, no more than $100 a day)
- the app itself is beautiful, easy to use, and is never slow or crashes
- Earnin did help me through a rough patch
- If that’s honestly how Earnin treat the people that work for them when one of their team members gets a good review (in hindsight I would have dropped his rating, I should have waited) but even so, it says a lot about the company and I always try my best to support companies that treat their people well.
To continue with my original point, yes Earnin is useful in times of need or if you need to make a big purchase without having to take out one of those nightmarish 6-12 month loans. Just be careful to not get yourself caught in a loop using this app and use it respectfully. I’ve been living paycheck-to-paycheck for a while now and will be for another two months. I’m not entirely blaming Earnin either. I’m definitely at fault also. I could have made better choices. I just hope this review helps even just one person.
It was good. Needs major overhaul
I’ll start by saying a few years ago I would have written a completely different review. This is back when I had almost no issues with the app. The one very minor issue I did have was fixed straight away.
I stopped using Earnin for a while just because I didn’t need it. So when I found myself recently needing their services again I updated the app on my phone, entered my new employer and my credit Union (a new bank account from the one I previously used)
So for the sake of transparency after I had entered my routing and account number and realized I hadn’t received their test transaction, I doubled checked for any issues. The first being I had typed in my account number too fast and accidentally had the last two digits switched (well this explains when I hadn’t received my test transactions) that, again in full transparency was my mistake.
Where it gets weird and frustrating as this could happen to anyone, is Earnin doesn’t have a feature to simply jump back into your account and “edit bank info” they have “change bank” option but it doesn’t deliver the desired result to correct my bank info. Further adding to this frustration is trying to reach out to support wasn’t the cure either. I spent over a week, constantly text chatting (yeah there’s no actual human to speak to over a phone and hash out the dilemma together) their support sends the same scripted blanket responses for possible fixes and when you’ve told the 13th and 21st support person you’ve chatted with over the span of days that you’ve already tried that they always send you to someone supposedly higher up, which they refer to as a “specialist”, they wouldn’t fix it either all they did was offer the same instructions for you to fix it. A problem that shouldn’t be this difficult to fix, a problem that could be fixed with a simple “edit bank info” option that would allow the user to back peace delete and retype their information.
I tired my best to help speed the process for them by sending them countless screen shots in my text chats, and still they offered nothing helpful.
What any user/customer should find highly insulting about this even if it was the most trivial oops on your end and they leave you completely hanging expecting you to do the dirty work with no viable solution in sight.
Not one representative from Earnin reached out to me with anything remotely sounding like “hey sorry for your terrible experience we will fix it on our end because we want to keep you as a user” , it’s as if after an entire week of hitting wall after wall for something so easily fixable they just shrug their shoulders with an oh well hate to lose you over something that could be fixed in seconds.
I’m miffed at what happened with the quality of this app. These days the best apps are the ones that are not only the most user friendly but also are equipped with the cleanest easiest least frustrating solutions and a support team that goes above and beyond to take care of their user/customer. Yes, there are apps with these very qualities built in.
If you scroll through the reviews you’ll see some recent postings of users who are having bank connection issues, users who have sent screen shots of their problem only to find themselves with no help from Earnin.
Earnin, instead of sending generic blanket responses to your users, how about actually offering to chat with them by phone and walk them through an actual solution or to use a figure of speech “flip a switch” on your end that allows the customer the ease to make a simple correction.
If I had known it would take this long (issue still not fixed) I would have just deleted all my information and the app and reinstalled and started over from scratch...days ago. Guess what ? Earnin’s support told me not to do that...yes...seriously ...they told me not to do that.
Earnin, the onus is on you. You will lose users if this lack of care continues.
Do not be fooled
First off they say there is no interest but they ask for a tip. If you don’t provide a tip your max amount is then reduced. They use GPS to verify if you are at work to process earnings. What happens if you work In IT like myself. I don’t spend all my time in an office. Most of the time I have to drive around from client to client. Also if you work from home due to illness or weather. They have no way to account for your earnings. Same with vacation time. Next up, They don’t state all there policies are listed or disclosed. If something happens and you need to reschedule payment let them know right away. If you don’t let them know an unnecessary amount of time before hand you may wind up like I did. I went in to surgery it was an emergency surgery very last minute. I got home from the hospital and my boss agreed to let me work from home while I heal. I spent a couple days in the hospital. Due to the emergency situation I did not have my cell phone. My payday came due but due to the unfortunate situation of surgery it was a little light it accounted for 1 vacation day 1 holiday and 1 work day. This was not a full work day as this is the day that lead to the surgery. Unfortunately I only had one PTO day left due to two prior months before my father had became ill and eventually deceased and I used some bereavement some vacation. Any way the day before pay day I contacted them and asked them to please do not take the payment as this was going to be issue. They continued to tell me the payment gets sent three days prior to so they could not. If I let them know three days earlier they would have rescheduled. Three days prior! First off that’s ridiculous. Second it’s not listed anywhere on or in the app. How is anybody supposed to know. Truthfully even if I did know I would’ve been in the same boat because I just got out of the hospital the night before due to the above mentioned surgery. At this point I had worked one full day from home. The gentleman said let the payment go through if it does not contact us so we can reschedule. All well and good the amount went through. I then logged on and contacted them and now the story was changed. The person I spoke with now said there was nothing that could be done this that and the other thing. I looked at my bank account there was just enough left to make my car payment shy 100 dollars. This is all I really cared about. I was current on all my bills it might’ve pushed my cell phone back a week or so but not that big of a deal. I would just tighten the belt on food for the week and I be fine. I then attempted. To cash out 100 dollars to pay my car. But it showed me as having no earnings even though I got out of the hospital the day before work to the entire morning and today from. I then contacted them again and explain the situation asking why I had no earnings. They explained that it was due to their crappy GPS not picking me up at work. I told them that due to everything we spoke about earlier I was working so he’s the last two days and I would be for the rest of the week. They asked me if I could give them some short of digital time card. I’m salary we don’t punch a card. No matter what we work we make the same amount. What’s the point of keeping track of hours. They then explained that there was nothing they could do. I told him the whole story again explain what was going to happen and how if I don’t have a car I’ll probably lose my job then my home. I asked to close my account as In retrospect this was a horrible concept. If you don’t have money you shouldn’t spend money you should not spend money you haven’t yet received. A situation like this proved it to me wholeheartedly. They told me how. The whole time knowing what I just went through they were asking me why do you wanna close are you sure you wanna close the account I’m upset that’s it end of story. Rather than closing it for me they told me how so I tempted to close the account. It wouldn’t let me. I contacted right back and told him. The gentleman told me wait an hour and try again. At this point I was irate. I was not using profanity or being disrespectful in anyway but I was irate. I told the gentleman I attempted to close my account it wouldn’t let me now he’s responsible to close my account and contact me when it’s done I’m injured I need to go out now and get my sleep I am not fully healed yet. Now he messages me back and says they can be closed in 3 to 4 days. You just told me five minutes ago in an hour. That was the finishing draw I don’t like lying and I don’t like dirty business. I work in IT I work with people all day long you have to show sympathy empathy and most importantly professionalism and under no circumstances do you tell untruths. Personally this whole experience is not worth the little bit of gain that you receive. It’s not even viable and then emergency situation because I’ve never been in an emergency situation that’s less than $100 which is the max cash out. This is more like you want to buy something and you don’t have cash on you and you’re waiting for payday. Truthfully if you can’t afford it you shouldn’t buy it in the first place and while waiting for payday can usually talk yourself out of a rather stupid purchase. The app does more harm than good. It is now off my phone and I couldn’t be happier.
Unbiased Realistic Review: Better than good, but not excellent
After using this app for roughly a month, and then reading many reviews today, I felt it's my public duty to share an honest opinion.
I read many negative reviews today, and most had the same general theme:
• I've been using AfterHours for XX period of time, and it's worked great. I never bothered to write a positive review during that whole period where I found a lot of value in the app, because I prefer to publicly complain not publicly praise. Recently, a major change has occurred in the financial side of my employment and since AfterHours wasn't able to transition my account under this new scenario within minutes and without a few hiccups, I now deem this app worthless. Heed my warning.
The other major gripes I read are:
• Customer Service is slow, unhelpful, rude and clueless.
There are problems with both of these general themes, they certainly aren't entirely true or fair to AfterHours; nor are they 100% false.
People - AfterHours takes on all the upfront risk in this model so you can't penalize them for being diligent in their on-boarding phase or transition phases. "I have a checking account, trust me", is not something a company can just accept as fact. All those people who had to go through added layers of verification, did so because it's simply how business works.
"I moved from hourly to salary"
"I changed banks"
"My company changed addresses"
These were the situations people dealt with, and were unsatisfied that AH didn't just press a button and go back to how it was before these changes. These reviewers are idiots, of course all of these changes are red flags that need to be vetted further; the fact AfterHours does so should be a commended.
It took me 4 days to get my account set-up, the average is 1-2. I had no reason to complain because I always knew what the delay was, all 3 parties were working toward resolution, and AH was responsive.
I exerted 20 minutes of effort over those 4 days too, that's it. Overall - it felt seamless for me.
After 2 weeks, I was notified my bank connection severed and I needed to re-enter my credentials (an issue many reviewers here were so angry with). It took 3 minutes, and it was done. I mean cmon, I have to go through identify verification half the time I log in to my bank account; stuff like this should be expected. It shows how unreasonable and delusional certain people are when this is a huge complaint and problem for them.
I will admit customer service is slow. 8-24 hours for a response, and their responses aren't always helpful. It's often cookie cutter answers to questions not necessarily asked. But, when it really mattered, they helped. And it was always done politely and professionally. Yes, it's an area to improve on but not a sole reason to stop working with a company.
Overall - excellent concept, good execution, great overall experience.
6 months from now this is going to be the biggest app/idea out there. Just wait.
UPDATED ON 5/16:
I am still a huge fan of the concept here, but I've had to reduce my rating from 4 stars to a 3. This change is completely based on Earnin's customer service.
App and Concept = 4
Customer Service = 2
Final Score = 3
There are several substantial problems with Earnin's customer service;
1) if you are not going to have a customer service help phone number and only offer support via e-mail, then your e-mail response time must be MUCH better than the 24 hours you have today. The worst part is that it takes 24 hours to get a response, and that response usually requires further dialogue, and receiving that second response takes another 24 hours. That's 2 full days to receive 2 written sentences from support that may or may not resolve the problem
2) employee knowledge: several Interactions clearly demonstrated the person wasn't trained well enough or didn't understand how the platform works. One example is that for 4 months I've been able to provide a screenshot and Earnin would update my account; this past interaction the support rep not only would not update my account but told me that they "can't" do it this way - even when I explained it's been done this way countless times. Another time I was told the system won't work when the bank transaction is over a week old - yet the person was talking about transactions were only 3 days old. When I brought that up it was ignored.
3) escalation judgment; I've experienced that when an issue is escalated to a "specialist" it could be resolved within 10 minutes; which would be great if it wasn't for the fact that it wasn't escalated for over 2.5 days, during that time I was told to keep repeating failed processes and continued to wait at least 8-24 hours for my question to even be acknowledged.
4) Full Resolution: this 2+ day problem consisted of 2 issues. The issues were intertwined; meaning that solving 1 problem doesn't matter unless both were solved. After all of my efforts and delays, issue 1 was solved, but issue 2 was ignored and the whole request was closed- meaning it would never be addressed. So, I'm still here, day 4 without my problem solved.
This experience seriously made me consider moving to a different provider of this type of service. However, I'm going to give Earnin another chance because other than C/S I have been very pleased. However, if my overall problem is not resolved soon and if C/S turn around time and the actual results are not improved, I'll have to find a new partner.
Pros and cons
So I’m here to write a distinct review for anyone who’s looking for some good detail on how this application actually works.
First and foremost the app requires you to connect your bank account providing you have a bank that works with the company(or so I think). Regarding the way the app functions after connecting. They have internal app features such as lighting speed which is when you also link your debit card along with your bank to have instant deposits instead of the standard wait time of 24 hours for it to go in. Also there’s a cash back system which really only works with specific companies and restaurants but I don’t know how that functions exactly. More importantly the app functions based on an automated system. This very automated system functions so that there are 4(or more) factors that effect your “Earnins”.
1. Your use of the app.
2. Your bank account balance ($50 minimum threashhold to have increase in withdraw max).
3. Tipping during withdraws to “support the app” though I’m not sure exactly how much it supports.
4. How much you get paid on your paychecks compared to how much of your paycheck and earnings you use.
However what the app does not explain and the support members fail to mension is that even if you do all 4 of those factors. Even if you tip every time you withdraw. Even if you have constant use of the app. Even if your bank balance stays in good status and never goes under $50 or overdrawn and you get paid a substantial amount compared to your “total max” that you start with $50 for withdraw and total max. Personally for me it took about 8 months to get from the initial $50 to the $500 max they supposedly have set as anyone’s maximum. 8 months! Not to mention every time they decrease your max by $50 you lose money and they gain money. And than proceeding that continuing my (in your case, yours) same four factors without fail I figured my max wouldn’t go down and just regular use as normal. However this wasn’t the case. Over time for some reason the “automated system” began lowering my maximum. From $500, to $450, to $400, and so on (you get the idea). My max has successfully decreased down to $200 before I decided to contact support again for the millionth time and tell them my review based on the system, support, and functionality of the app. My review was sent to the owners and I’m guessing reviewed due to the response I got. I never got a verbal or written response to the review I had written and given to one of the apps support members but what I believe I got as a response was my max went from $200 to $250. So I gained $50 for my max. Mind you, naturally the system should be decreasing me from $200 to $150 due to me not doing any of the 4 factors. Yet the “automated system” INCREASED my max by $50 instead of decreasing. Therefore the only explanation was that it’s the response to my review. And personally I appreciate the fact they have read my review and responded in a manner they think was right or could help however this does not solve my concern.
So in short, the functionality of the app is pretty basic and self explanatory. As it’s explained really in the beginning of this review. However I did want to include more detail on the factors that could be happening to anyone. I’m not sure if anyone has experienced this as well but I figure the best solution is to make sure everyone reads what has happened to me and maybe others. Moving forward, ide like to say some positive things as well.
Overall, the app is a great feature in itself. The processing and actual functionality of the app does as it says at least in the description. Bottom line you download the app, and connect your info, and begin withdrawing as soon as they verify info. Whether this is a breach in security or can cause it I’m not sure. I personally felt iffy at first but after prolonged use I can admit I’m fine and nothing has happened to me personal data wise. The idea of the app, the idea in the app itself is straight forward but also a modern way to help with finances earlier than payday which like I said is a great idea in some aspects. So the purpose of the app is good and I would still recommend to a friend however not to a friend who has certain factors in there own lives that earnins “automated system” does not include when calculating your maximum or info on the app itself otherwise this app will not help you in your quest for financial assistance. That being said, this app and company have the right idea and they’ve stayed strong and definitely have a solid customer basis but there are some pretty strong feature and app related detail they should (in my opinion) really work on updating or factoring into there app as a way to thank the consumers for there support and for there decision to trust the app and use the app and be a part of the earnin society.
In the end, this review IS NOT MEANT TO DEGRADE, OR OTHERWISE DIMINISH THE REPUTATION OR QUALITY OF THE APP AND CREATORS. What this review is meant for is that there are a lot of good things and bad things about using the app. Just keep in mind either what your plan is or what your going to be getting into and how your going to figure out your own part of what to do. What this review is meant for is to clarify the details of how this app is functioning from a consumers point of view. So, am I mad about the response being them giving me $50 back on my max? No I’m not. Am I satisfied? No I’m not. But I wouldn’t of handled it that way. I would of at least contacted the reviewer by email saved on the consumers account and at least made sense of all of it.
Thanks for reading I know it was long. Thank you Earnin as well for being the app you are. Again. Great work in general but needs plenty of work as well. Plenty.

My account doesn’t want to update
Having trouble with my account due to the fact that it doesn’t want to update every pay cycle, evidently it started when back in December 22, 2023 when we went on Company vacations got back January 2 2024, I wasn’t aware that we had to let you guys know about that so it won’t affect my account, All I want is my account to go back to normal please if I’m not asking for much? Thank you
Ps. Instead of the app helping me it’s actually going backwards

Account transaction
I used to have an Earnin app before and closed my account last 2021 for some personal reasons. I thought once your Earnin account is closed this is considered deleted or at least not accessible anymore. But last Nov. 28, 2022 I was shocked when Earnin charged my bank account for $2,400. Before closing my account with them I made sure I don't owe them any amount. But why is it my money was taken out and until now no one from their higher department contacted or emailed me despite the numerous times I contacted their customer support thru their app or messenger. Also that money they took from my account was my child tax refund that money is intended for my daughters needs and Earnin doesn't care at all. I have been begging almost every day for last 8 month to return the money BUT STILL UNTIL NOW NO WORD FROM EARNIN. I am so stress over this and it is affecting my daighter and my health.
Desired outcome: Refund my money back
Customer Support Trash
Up until I haven’t had issues with this app. I started a new job and submitted the new address change and even showed them my first deposit which showed a new date to paid on then my previous employer pay periods were. I would be paid the opposite week then I was before. I even had to screen shot it and send it. So then I took out some money and they took back on my previous job pay week... I spoke with a customer support and she kindly said she would make sure to refund and to just send her the screenshots on the account with the issue of being charged an overdraft fee because them taking out the money in the wrong day pushed me into the negative because I don’t have the whole amount that they were taking back... I sent her the shots and then another rep answers back saying they see I have a new bank account t and not to worry it won’t happen again not that it’s in the system... I don’t have a new one... I’ve had the same account for a decade. Then I am told they need to see the overdraft charge AGAIN. I send it in again and I get the answer if they need to see that it shows I overdrafted because of them and I show a screen shot that says it overdrafted because of the a transaction on the day they took out the money and this was only transaction for that day... like I made no other purchases at that time and everything before was cleared... then I get a we need you to provide an email from the bank giving more detail that it was us and specifically saying it was us that caused it. So I am working on getting it and get a Thank is for your patience we will send the email off to a specialist once you send it to us... I said after the holidays I will and no I get a no we won’t refund you because it came out on previous employer date. We needed a Paystub showing the new date of payment bologna after I had sent in I was paid on a different date and bank record to prove that. Like one support person for one ticket. I knew they were gonna yank me around and jump me through hoop after hoop to say no. After a whole month of back and forth I get this. I am done with this app. You all need to get your stuff together and communicate better as a support team and improve it.

Pretty darn good for a free lending app!
UPDATE!
Using app for MONTHS! No issue every paying back loans. All of a sudden my account won’t update (con mentions in first draft of review) and its ‘stick’ spoke to 4 agents come to App Store... update? Let’s see if this works. Otherwise today was a NIGHTMARE working with ‘customer service’ #sarcasm
This is a good app. I’ll give the cons first as the developer should address them. Then I can add the pros to end on a sweet note.
Cons:
Pay rate is calculated after any payroll deductions (parking medical dental etc) so your pay rate will drop tremendously effecting the amount you can borrow
-Your banking information is handled through a third party vendor. If you overdraft for any reason (error stolen card ANY reason) during the weekend, this will stay on your account. This is important to know because your account being in overdraft effects the limit of the amount you can withdrawal and when your limits are raised etc.
-Customer service is through chat ONLY. Enough said.
***-Glitches. I sign in often and my account is not accurate.
-Payday options I would love a custom option as my company’s perimeters do not fall in the options
Pro: Let’s get to the sweet stuff
-The fees are based on what you think is fair the FIRST time. (The commercials are a little misleading) then fees are pretty low around 9% you can pay more to help keep the fees low. NOW I will say this the fees being low are the reason they has some of the cons like chat customer service (phone calls centers are expensive) and 3rd party vendors for banking services (financial personal is VERY expensive) so I will be paying extra when I can.
-Sign up process is relatively easy if you know how to operate a smart phone. I would advise you update your paystub and banking information at least once a month and check the accuracy your account.
I stand corrected about tech savvy.
DISREGARD -Customer service agent/supervisors are pretty tech savvy and willing to enter information to help correct you account. I feel like they are very helpful to be in this type of environment. They seem to have technical backgrounds as well.
Hope you found this review to be helpful honest and accurate!

NO SERVICE NO HELP Stopped working/updating
I downloaded and used this app regularly/frequently without any issues until it stopped working. I tried to update and reset/resolve issue by re-entering info...app just kept buffering. I then contacted “chat help” of which each of about 6 different people told me to do the same things I already tried to do. I am very frustrated...I inquired if chat rep could enter my info...if I sent a picture of my check. I did this...still didn’t work. I deleted the app...however, I tried to register with different email finally (I thought) this would be the best way to use the app. No...I was wrong...I contacted chat help again only to be told I would have to wait 30 days for system to refresh.
My frustration is directly with the fact that it worked one day and the next day it didn’t. The company has all of my info, credentials, life story, address, location, family tree, roots, journals, history, experience, work time sheets, etc. ——-I could go on, but hopefully my point is made. I’m upset and do or did appreciate using the app. If “help” is offered, perhaps it should be the person offering to assist responsibility to actually help and assist. IT SHOULD NOT BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONSUMER OR PERSON WHO DOWNLOADED THE APP THAT HAS ALREADY PROVIDED EVERYTHING IMAGINABLE FOR THE APP TO WORK. I will once again delete the app and I’m not sure if I will download it in 30 days...this is ridiculous. If any representatives of the app were to contact (or fix my problem after several chat sessions by numerous reps and attempts by me along with everything discussed and done by me) me or perhaps HELP ME a better review may be left. Keep in mind I am NOT going to re enter or send any more pictures or info...about 8 chat reps have it and it should be in your system.
Update UPDATE HEAR YE HEAR YE...09/07 THIS APP IS WORTHLESS...IT WILL WORK FOR YOU ...THEN IT WON’T. One day it shows progression on your daily earnings, the next day, you have to chat or try to determine why it doesn’t work the next day. I’ve tried twice, used and needed twice,
NEVER AGAIN DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP IT IS ALL KINDS OF F’d UP. I WAS SWINDLED TWICE. NO HELP FROM ASMIR OR KASHMIR OR ANY CHAT INVOLVER...

Good concept but run similar to a bad business creditor who thinks you won’t pay
So the concept is good and Earnin will give you the money when you need it. But don’t expect to get 5 star service like a reputable borrower with good credit. They will treat you as if you are a bad borrower who won’t pay. First I set up my account with the same employer wages and pay date schedule I have had for 4 years . Got paid on Friday and Earnin debit on Friday. I switch banks ( only ) not employer and they told me the new bank shows the money hits earlier than Friday so they will change my pay date to Wednesday. I contacted them and told them my pay date did not change and sent them a paystub. They said they didn’t care. I then told them I have never seen the money first thing Wednesday sometimes before midnight or Thursday but my job does not guarantee pay until Friday. I told them they will absolutely overdraft my account if this is kept this way. Wednesday comes and I have multiple withdraw attempts (declined) from my new bank account ( I knew this would happen). However, I than got an email from my old bank. YES! aspiration tried to get the money from both accounts! My old account also sent a notice and charged return fees. Agent told me they always use old account for money borrowed during old account existence yet on the next day they debit the new account AGAIN so that was a lie they just wanted to see if the old account would work. I than explained all this to the agent with screen shots of the return fees and they said they still would not change the date. They will just keep debiting the account . She says to me we keep the earliest day you MIGHT see the money in your account because we might not get paid if we don’t ! Yes that’s right they thinks us borrowers are not good people I guess because we need a little extra help financially and so we WON’T PAY. I immediately close my account . This is absurd . Such bad view on your customers. I wasn’t asking for a date well beyond my pay date just that they use my ACTUAL pay date provided by employer to make sure the money is always there and all of these issues across multiple accounts would not happen. Not use some maybe (possible) or could be paid early date. I think people should be aware of their practices if they plan to use the services.

Disappointed
UPDATE***
Just had the WORST experience with customer service ever. It’s a miracle I was even able to get a response in the first place. But the responses were literally misspelled in fragments, repeating the same thing over and over without answering my question. When I inquired about speaking to a manager on the issue, I was told “nobody was there”. Come on, now. Very unprofessional, sloppy, and not helpful one bit. I changed my rating to one star. If you are on salary, DO NOT use Earnin. They won’t tell you that up front, even though I was argued with about my initial positive experience. It’s pointless to use this app.
The main concept of this app is great! I loved everything, and it was all very easily accessible at the onset of usage. A month passed, and my experience drastically changed. I had to jump through several hoops just to have earnings to pull from, where it was never an issue previously. I sent in snapshots to prove income and a contract of my salary pay for a year. Even then, I was not worked with. For salary-paid users and other users that travel for work...this app will not work for you, and it’s a pure shame that it is limited to these factors. Although I understand that is your capability at the moment, Earnin would do well to change that policy. It was never communicated up front, and my experience placed a bad taste in my mouth for Earnin. I’m asking that you consider changing this as soon as possible, and that these things are clearly communicated to your users in the future. I had fairly good experiences with your customers representatives once I could finally get a response. They were mostly kind and professional, but they danced around answering my questions, probably because they didn’t have answers, or they couldn’t fix my issue. It just was not made clear what the answers to my issues were, so it made it seem like not all of your representatives were on the same page. I did everything I was asked to do, but leaving my phone in one location to do a job I travel frequently for is not practical. Proof of salary and pay schedule, a history of paying for your services, and giving you all my bank info would be sufficient in my brain. Can you please consider this and respond to me?

Horrible customer service
All was well the whole year or so I was using your services, always payed you back on time and payed more then I though was fair to you guys for your service and never had any troubles until I got fired and lost my job my last paycheck was very small and I was unable to pay you back on our regular date so I emailed your support team to let them know about my situation and they were very quick and happy to help at that time. I had entered my pay period all funny and didn’t get a full 2 weeks worth of pay on my next check like I was expecting and before I had a chance to let u guys know you had already tried to take the money back from my account taking my last 200$ I had to get to and from work for the next two weeks, I emailed your support team numerous times to try and get it refunded so I’d be able to get to and from work so I can not only pay my bills but you guys as well on my next check, your support staff was less then willing to accommodate my request and didn’t offer and help after words I started emailing on June 7th it is now the 12th and I have yet to reach a resolution and have emailed your team a total of 15 times in that period. On the 8th I was emailed by a supervisor saying they will look into what options they can give me for a resolution to my situation I still haven’t heard anything back since then and have been struggling to get to and from work since you guys took my last 200$ I have begged multiple times to your support staff and don’t get any response it’s sad to see that when tragedy occurs to one of your most active members that no proper service or communication was provided by your support team I have felt more then ignored and helpless in this situation you guys have no contact phone number anywhere and demand that users contact support thru email only with promises of the quickest response that way only for that not to be the case what’s so ever, once I do pay you guys back I will not any longer be using your services. I’m still in shock at how unhelpful and less than interested you staff was in assisting such a long terms guest. I’m very disappointed and won’t be returning and have very little interest in even making my last payment to you guys. I hope your better then you’ve been to me to your future customers.

The APP needs work& Customer service
Hello,
I hope this is helpful for future users. I never leave bad reviews but these guys deserve it. I hope all the right people see my complaint and hope one day you guys can provide the appropriate customer service that your future users deserve.
To start this working with this app, first off is a lengthy process and they have a hard time connecting right away, which I understand being a third party app that assists with funds. So after about a week and half you will be set up and it will be great you will love the benefits of this app. But be aware that your bank could eventually disconnect and you will have to do the process all over.
It has been 18 days that I’ve been working on trying to get my app going again and I have only received automated responses stating they will reach out in about a day. I even asked them to call me to help resolve these issues and so I know it is being worked on because they have all my info that small request could of been doable. With all my requests for help I only received three “real” responses to restart your app and reconnect and send us screen shot and these are coming DAYS after the initial requestS. And they have still not helped in anyway. Maybe it’s my bank, but because of the disconnection and with little to no response from their “customer service” the app will put you into more of a bind then it will help. Their response time to help is inadequate and once you get disconnected they don’t give you access to your account so you can’t see any activity, where you stand or to check on your payments or anything! It simply blocks you out completely. This process has been the utmost infuriating process because there is literally one on there end that responds to your needs and does not fix the issue in the appropriate amount of time. My account is still not working and if I ever get the chance it get back into my account I will close it out completely.
To future users, be aware of who your giving your account information to, they basically are keeping my info and I can’t disconnect my account or even get back into it.
My suggestion on using the app, use it only for a short amount of time close your account completely and if you know in advance you may be in a bind get the app again then close your account again after you’ve taken care of what you needed assistance on.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Below is my original review and I stand by it except the situation become even WORSE! After many attempts reaching out to customer service, literally MANY attempts in the time frame of THREE MONTHS I told them to change the payback date to FEBRUARY 1ST because I am on MATERNITY LEAVE and I do not receive ANY MONEY. Maternity Leave = Not Working = No Money to pay them back. The said yes about FIVE TIMES FROM FIVE DIFFERENT AGENTS. Guess what? NONE OF THEM EVER ACTUALLY CHANGED THE DATE! The first time they did and because I had my baby via c-section my recovery time put me out of work longer than expected and THEY CAUSED ME TO BE NEGATIVE $670 on my bank and of just overdraft fees after I told them NOT TO CHARGE THEMSELVES after THEY SAID YES WE WILL CHANGE THE DATES! There is NO NUMBER for you to call just chat. This whole thing is a SCAM! Please only use this once. Not to mention they still expect me to pay them back, yeah I’m not going to pay over $1,300 because their agents never did their jobs! The reason it’s up to $600 because they NEVER paid attention the FIRST TIME and when I received my partners check because he has his direct deposit added to my bank account, it took away his money and WE LOST OUR APARTMENT because we didn’t have money for rent! All because these people working for them or whoever is even behind these chats said yes okay and never did anything! Someone let me know if I can SUE in ANYWAY, I’m looking into it! DO NOT USE THIS APP! If you do please ONLY ONCE AND ONLY TAKE OUT $100!
It was a great app in the beginning, but unfortunately if you become very loyal to Earnin and use it as a way to pay bills on time without having to wait til your pay period & potentially be late, customer service does not care. This app was simply made “for emergencies only” kind of situation and I get it. I blame myself for relying on an app like this, it was too good to be true. MAX increases and gets you excited, YES you’re finally able to have money before payday for food, bills, gas, whatever the case may be. But then they decrease the MAX back down to $100! If that were the case don’t ever increase anybody’s MAX. I’m seeing a lot of reviews that many people have to relied on this app just like I did. So what I take from this to tell future users, use it ONCE, MAX TWICE! And delete the app immediately!

50/50
My review is pretty simple. It’s come in handy for sure but anything you need customer service for, one should prepare for difficulties. I will say, there were only two major events I needed fast cash for, you judge how you’d feel per each situation.
The first was during hurricane Irma. Needed cash almost immediately after payday due to evacuation. Customer service was prompt, empathetic and diligent. I got like $100 and was content.
The second, Covid-19. I started getting paid way more at my current job. However with Covid, we went into WFH almost effective immediately. This clearly made it difficult for Earnin to track when I was attending work, which I understood, at first. Ultimately I was told to have my employer reach out to them and provide x,y,z documentation in order to verify my work hours. That didn’t sit right with me. However, I am on the administrative team at my job, along with 3 other girls who are responsible for attorney/secretary attendance-including each other. You’d think a pdf form of our daily attendance sheets would suffice for Earnin but for reasons unknown (or possibly forgotten) it didn’t. Waiting times to chat with an agent were ridiculously long and as I am working I can’t keep my eye on a screen constantly to avoid missing a chat and being booted out of the system. The notifications are buggy, so I wasn’t being notified of new messages. Trying to speak to a supervisor was like pulling teeth, and at one point, an agent began being really snarky. It was a bit of a shock considering my previous interaction was a pleasant one. I wasn’t helped in this case and shortly after I wanted to cash out for gas, had to get in contact with customer service and if I hadn’t known any better I would have been stranded. I was at a friends house and had enough to get home but prefer to fill my gas in the daytime as opposed to nighttime so I had to wait until the next day to fill my tank. Needless to say I haven’t stuck around for a fourth time. I took my business to Dave shortly and never had issues! I gave it 2 stars for the first interaction, I was in college at the time so it really helped out. I haven’t needed either recently but I will say it’s nerve wrecking when your finances get stunted. Saving is SO important but things happen! Apps like these are still great to have privileges too. You just have to find the one that works for you! xx

Unhelpful Customer Service
I would like to start by saying I am giving this two stars because it worked the first time. With that being said, I have had many issues with this app. The first time, it was because the app requested a direct deposit, and my employer does not offer direct deposit. I contacted customer support, and was able to fix the issue by uploading a picture of my paystub and the deposit reflected on my bank account. After this, however, I began to notice that my earnings were not being posted, which was frustrating because I had my precise location turned on to always. Throughout the entire time I had this app installed it was tracking my location but not updating my earnings. Finally I decided to contact customer service again. Just to get in contact with a representative was a long wait. I work in customer service so I try not to take issue with long wait times as I know that things just happen sometimes. However, once I did get to a representative, the app glitched. The button to return to the chat was nowhere to be found and the chat ended up being closed due to “inactivity”. At this point I started to get frustrated because now I had to get in line to chat with a representative again and wait for the entire time again. Finally I got a response and the same thing happened where I could not access the conversation. I ended up being able to get into the conversation by pressing the “contact customer service” button again. This representative was unhelpful. They would not directly answer any of my questions and claimed that I am ineligible to use the app as I do not get paid by direct deposit. I never got a response as to why I had been able to use the app before if I didn’t have a direct deposit. It is understandable if this is a company policy. It is not understandable to be told two different things by two different representatives. It is not understandable to not be able to get a simple question answered. Oh, and the cherry on top of this whole situation is the amount of time you wait for each response. It takes so long that I thought I was disconnected from the chat at first. I also wish that I would have been informed upon joining the app the requirement of direct deposit, and not have to find out later after I have already connected my bank account. Especially if this is a requirement to use the service. The entire situation is convoluted and definitely too good to be true.

Love Earnin ***UPDATED Feb 24, 2020***
Been using you guys since before you had commercials and stuff lol I take breaks (don’t always need money) but I always thought it was a great app, glad to see more people are using the app! I know I had problems with my friends trying to say it was a scam at first so the growth is wonderful! Keep being great.
*UPDATE*
Earnin used to be so great.
1. I have to contact support to get my earnings corrected every. single. time. now. Whoever adds earnings doesn’t know how to do math. Why is it ALWAYS wrong?
2. This most recent time, the person tried to argue with me and say it was right. I had to request a supervisor to get it corrected ! It was as simple as taking my hourly rate and multiplying it by the hours I submitted. Not sure where the disconnect is but maybe get people who passed 3rd grade math to assist customers ?
3. My max keeps decreasing for no reason. My bank account is (almost, maybe happens once or twice and not when I’m using earnin) never negative. They ALWAYS get their money on time. I tip people at least $5. It just recently went back up by $50 after decreasing by $150 and I literally didn’t do anything different from what I have been doing. So now I know it’s bs whatever algorithm is being used.
4. When it’s not a weekend, I can cash out one day and receive my money the next . At the time of the cashout, it will say I reached my daily limit and I’m able to cashout again the next day. If I cash out on a Friday, not only will I not receive the money until Monday but it’ll say I can cash out on Monday again. Then when Monday comes, it’ll say I can cash out in the app STILL yet won’t let me until Tuesday. Support says this is because I received the money on Monday. But what they’re not understanding is that on other weekdays, I don’t have this issue. I can receive money on one day and STILL CASHOUT for the next day because I didn’t actually cash out that day. But I guess that’s too hard for non native English speakers to understand so I stopped trying to get to the bottom of that. I would love for my experience to be consistent with the in app notifications.
I only left 1 star because it still does what it’s supposed to do...after I contact support, that is. I won’t be using this app anymore after this week ♀️ I’ve been doing really good with my savings and no longer need it. I’ll use another app if I need money after this, this is too much hassle for me .

Scam Scam ??
Earnin (formerly known as ACTIVEHOURS)... other than me assuming your fraudulent . I stepped out on trying the app & was ok the first day or two until my account started “ having a mind of its own .” Of course when you MESSAGE in (because there are no phone numbers) they will try to sound legit and like they know what they are discussing . But it’s clear they want MONEY. They have a program where other users/customers can “pay it forward” & pay off ya tip (which they say is optional but is NOT, because if u choose $0 it says u can’t borrow anymore ) and if the tip is paid by someone else WELL YOU GONE STILL PAY THAT TIP AGAIN. Yep there’s no pay it forward , because y’all still charge the person for the tip and offer others to pay tips that they really NOT paying, if the receiver still pays on top of that ♀️. They ARE FRAUD & probably why they changed there name ! FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD ! I was told I would be sent a confirmation email on the tip removal for my account , they sent me a automatic message about my daily limit ... why ? Because they didn’t change what they said , nor have access to forms confirming ANYTHING ELSE . Don’t waste your time with emails of the same people with different names telling u info that they have to go ask someone about , from your previous chats. I screenshotted EVERY chat and convo and can’t wait to report you guys. I’ve chatted with 3 different people (or so I was told) to tell me ALL three different things. One told me they cancelled BOTH tips ... but first how they cancel BOTH , when one was suppose to be paid by pay it forward/another Earnin customer? Then another rep told me that ONE was canceled and would send me a confirm email , that came in another form of another topic. So I haven’t had any consistent information nor accurate info. I made sure to contact each one different times but in same day & it’s clear the current representatives have no idea what the prior did. I have my part time jobs pay connected so I could trial and I’m happy I didn’t use my full time ♀️. You can’t pay it early manually ... gotta email them . You don’t know who u talking to AT ALL & my last rep which was a supervisor... threatened to end my chat because I asked if they were fraud or a scam based off the info and way they were chatting with me . DONT WASTE THE TIME CUZ THE LITTLE MONEY IS NOT WORTH THE MANY COMPLICATIONS . —-Just my Experience & I’ve only had them 4 days ♀️

Great idea, but unreliable when you actually need it
I’ve been using this app for the last several months and I thought this app sounded like a great idea and resource. But if you are hoping to use this app for those times when you might actually need a little bridge to your next paycheck. DO NOT COUNT ON IT. I made that mistake and hope to warn others so they don’t get put in the same position as me.
I used the app consistently when I didn’t really need it to build up my max and hoped that it would build up a nice little safety net if things were tight or I needed to use it. I switched role in my company at a certain point and started working out of a different location. I noticed that my max was starting to get lower each pay period. I contacted support and to their credit they got the address issue corrected, but still lowered my max the next pay period with only a couple days notice. This was actually coming up on a time when I was hoping to use to the app to fill a financial gap that was coming up. I was going to need to rely on it and was counting on it.
I contacted support about the max drop and they told me that if I sent in my paystub that they could reset my max level to what it was. I did this. I also let them know that the direct deposit from the last pay period had an error when my company switched payroll responsibilities and they had to pay me by check. Once I told them this they refused to help or do anything. They said they required consistent direct deposits. I tried to explain that this was a one time error and sent in the last three months of statements showing that my deposits are indeed very consistent and that this was an odd one time error. Instead... now I can’t withdrawal anything until they see another direct deposit. Normally this wouldn’t be all that big of a deal, but in the months using it I had kinda grown to trust it. It WAS reliable, but now that it’s service would be an amazing help... it’s useless. This was misplaced trust.
I sent in document after document to show them that indeed I’m both making an increase pay and very reliable and consistent direct deposits and sometime it took support 3-4 days to get back to me. And often with assurances that something could be done that later were recanted and false claims of help.
I would not recommend using this service to anyone. It sounds like an amazing resource when those time are tough between pay checks, but you CAN NOT trust that it’ll be there for you or that support won’t be anything but a headache.

It does work
Update. Different name, same problems. Customer service takes 3-5 days to get back to you for even the simplest things. Still pending on updated bank transactions all the time, even though they got the money back. Here’s the thing, this app wants tips, do you tip inept wait staff? No. So get it together already! The problem comes from the fact they think automating their system is going to save time and cut staffing. But they automated the wrong stuff. It’s to much A.I and not enough human behind it. EVERY problem stems from their “system” problems and they continue to use it as an excuse. The simplest things or changes can’t be done, because their “system” doesn’t allow it, and it’s ridiculous. Another HUGE problem is your tickets aren’t regulated to one rep, it’s all over and of course the new rep doesn’t bother to read any of the info above, even though it’s all right there, so you end up going in circles with nothing being resolved. Lazy. Here is a user tip, screen shot important issues and the response, and when the next rep tries to tell you the opposite, send the screenshot back and call them out. All of a sudden, things get done...
If you are willing to deal with crap every time you want to use it. Takes way too long to set up to begin with, and will randomly delete the info you just sent them. After the first month of you try to use it again, there is always something wrong, or something they need, like your bank to send them your transactions list!? They take their money back IMMEDIATELY after your pay check is deposited so I don't see why you have to jump through loops to use it. Customer service is slow and inept, and leaves you guessing to what is going on. Do not depend on this for extra money, you will not get it in time for your needs, almost guaranteed. Lightning speed transactions are nice, when the system isn't down and it doesn't matter if you have it if the whole day is "transaction pending", which it usually is. They tell you they are waiting on your bank for info, yet when I talk to me bank they have no clue what this is or what they need. And it's the same thing EVERY month. Just yesterday I sent them an updated time sheet to withdraw more money, and it's as it disappeared and it says nothing about it. So, once again I have zero information as to what is happening, if I should resubmit it or not... The service does work, and I would give it another half star, but be prepared to deal with a lot of issues, and definitely don't go out depending on this money.

So awful!
I've been dealing with customer service for two weeks now! It started with the new year.
I have never, not once, missed a payment (semi long-time user). My company payroll paid us a day late (Friday) because of some new year problem, but Earnin tried to take out before we actually got paid (normally Thursday). This caused a nsf fee that we couldn't afford. I wasn't mad about it, just a simple mistake right?
I emailed several times with proof and was probably more understanding than I should have been. So I send in the bank statement showing the nsf fee and payday (a day apart), the email Earnin sent me SAYING they tried to pull out Thursday, and explained several times that I wasn't paid Thursday. I was paid Friday and wanted to fix this. It was literally not under my control and my company admitted to the mistake of late pay.
It took days just for them to withdraw the debt I owned. And even after that, it took weeks before I got a refund for the nsf fee. In addition, they lowered my limit because they claim the system doesn't want me to pull more than I can return. I always tip, but I really wish I hadn't been nice and supported them. I wasted money helping a company that doesn't even want to return the favor. They claim it isn't in their control to up the limit. It picks for me. But in my experience, it never goes up.
Not only this, but then I get an email today saying that the pictures I sent in aren't proof that they tried to pull money from me before I got paid. Really? The email from your own company saying the date they tried to take my money isn't proof?!
Not only that, but the date of Thursday on my bank account proving that they tried to pull and I immediately got an nsf fee isn't proof enough?
I'm done explaining over and over, showing proof from Earnin's OWN company that they tried pulling Thursday and the proof that I got paid Friday, and I'm done dealing with a company that can't even see on their side what is going on. I've talked to several people and no one seems able to understand or help.
I've been overly nice and understanding, but I'm done at this point. It's not worth it, and I highly recommend another app to try. I've never been so upset to write a review like this before. Save yourself and your money from an awful experience.
Update: My friend used the app too. She submitted her time sheet and hours, and they declined her money because she was off for two days. Even though they told her over chat that her money was available, they still REFUSED to give her money over. She had over $100 still available but the company really screwed her over.

Don’t do it!
Sadly, I have had to use and be a customer of this app since 2017. I’m a single mother of 3 and my job doesn’t pay me what I needed at that time so I’ve had to resort to this app. And since then I’ve had to keep using this app every payday.
Now today, my max went from $250 down to $100 and when I questioned it, they told me to make sure that I direct deposit all my earnings from my job to my bank account (which I do and always have), make sure that they get their debits on time (which they always have) and to not be overdrawn on my bank account (which I never have!) and then the best part of it all is that they tell me that lately I’ve had excess spending...Christmas had just pasted and I also just spent a lot in car repairs! So folks, if you happen to need your car fixed so your only car is working again and it also happens to be Christmas time, make sure you choose getting your car repaired over spending money on your children for Christmas because this app will drop your max for overspending what you normally do during the rest of the year! Ooh, and yet, I still have not been negative in my bank account and still had funds in my bank account by my next payday. Mind you, it was less than $100 in my bank account, but there was still funds and this app still got their debits ON TIME!
Oh, and they give you the option to tip as well. So, if you cash out $100 and tip $5 and get paid bi-weekly, that is equivalent to 130% APR. So basically do not provide a tip more than $1 if you are actually going to tip. Believe me, since I’ve been insulted by their customer service and being told I’m a “financial risk” to this company from obtaining their debits from my bank account, which I’ve been at my job for almost 4 years now, but I will not be tipping any more if I have to resort to keep using this app! Sorry not sorry but nobody will insult me by saying I’m doing things I’m not to be a financial risk and nobody will tell me that I cannot but my children Christmas gifts! I’ll be trying the other apps that do the same thing this company does and take my business elsewhere that my business is appreciated! Almost 3 years with this company and I’ve had nothing but issues with the app and their customer service that you cannot even physically talk to and only can chat to and you feel that you are talking to a robot, which you probably are, because they don’t listen or acknowledge your concern.
Ooh and this isn’t the first review I’ve done. I’ve done two before this and they make sure to delete them. But good job on losing a loyal and valued customer whom has never once defaulted on your debits not being taken on time!

It does what it’s supposed to do but
I can’t deal with them constantly adjusting the amount that I can/can withdraw every week. I’m not cool with them judging my amount over my spending. Honestly that doesn’t make any sense to me especially when I’ve paid all of my withdrawals on time considering I’ve been using this app long before they have changed their name. There may not be any money in the account I have linked with my direct deposit but that account isn’t used they way they think it is. I’m a person with multiple accounts and I honestly don’t need them “tracking” my spending for what ever reason. I should have to have my limit changed because my direct deposit account is empty at certain times. In my situation that account is specifically to hold money and that money gets transferred to other places because I HATE Wellsfargo. And if this is going to continue I’ll have to stop using this because it really is not worth it to me. I can just use my credit card and pay off the balance the following week or whatever but i think that the company that is trying to monitor your spending is uncalled for honestly. To me this app was to access your money before your pay check not to keep track of your spending and give you access base on how they feel you spend you’re money. Considering that I’ve been using this app for a good amount of time and all of my withdrawals have been paid in full with no issues. So for one week I can withdraw $100 then I’ll have to wait possible another 2-4 weeks for a $50 increase. That’s bogus get out of here seriously. This doesn’t seem like it’s actually based off of what you actually make for that pay week if you want to go by someone’s spending and not the actual hours worked and the on time payments. Someone could have used that extra $50 or what ever that same week you decide to reduce their withdrawal amount. I just want to look out for other people that could end up in this situation. But like I said it’s does give you the money. How much? That depends on them and not you. You can work 80hrs this week making $15 and hour and your withdrawal limit can EASILY be $100-150 a week with only a limit of $100 per day. Also they like to wait for you account information to post on their app before they even give you money. I’ll give you access to GIVE me money not monitor my account. And you have some nerve to lower my max when I “pay it forward” all the time EVERY time sometimes is the amount that recomended sometimes I may throw in alittle extra because you guys do help out a lot...when you actually help and you can check my history. Smh just waiting to find something new.
My old review WAS 5I said the app was great. It’s not so great anymore.

Disappointed
Let me just say when I first started using this app it worked fine for me. Now I must say I am far from satisfied. Customer service is no help at all, not only is there no number to contact these people but they don’t completely read your emails which is the only way you can explain something to them hoping for help. However they don’t take the time to read what your problems are it seems like a systematically generated response with solutions that I have already tried and still haven’t worked. Now here I am leaving a bad review because I’ve been dealing with delayed cash outs for over 2 months with no good explanation why . They said my bank network could be down ... “for 2 months” I doubt it.. I’ve spoken to my bank multiple times and they assure they never receive pending transactions and it’s not them causing the delays. They said I need to update my bank info and I did . They said it may be my bank withdrawal limit and that’s not the case because I haven’t hit my limit which is $500 daily. They said it may be because my debit card is expired or replaced , which it was and they said I need to “scan it in” however there isn’t any section that lets me “scan in” my debit card . Even though I use my checking and routing so my debit card shouldn’t matter since I never used it in the first place , either way updating it doesn’t work and what’s even better is that my cash outs are being delayed meaning I have to wait during holidays and until the next business on regular days and wait until weekdays if I cash it on weekends . The only reason I use this is in case of emergency yet when it’s an emergency I must wait , even though I get a message saying lightening speed and then a message that follows that which says error transaction delayed. Awesome , and to put icing on the cake ... I cashed out lightening speed August 31st and it is now Tuesday September 4th and there hasnt been any deposit to my account after being told the funds would be here today . It will be midnight soon , the money should not be coming this late in the evening . Sad part is I tip $9 - 12 every cash out and my money is always paid back on time no negative balance yet earnin cannot explain to me what’s wrong nor do they even care. And my earning account says that I have an upcoming debit including the amount that I didn’t receive, I’ll be damned if you guys withdraw money from my bank account on Friday without allowing me to receive it in advance because then you guys would just be stealing $100 from me . I am beyond upset at this moment and I will be removing this app if it is not fixed and my money is withdrawn , horrible when you can’t speak to anyone . Pretty much, I’m owed $100 & I still haven’t received it. Funny how you guys never delay withdrawing the funds .
