I am a neighbor to the Engen service station on Molope drive in Rand Park ridge, JHB.
Last year a group of vagrants set up camp opposite to the Engen and it took our community a lot of time, energy effort and expense to evict them. All the time, the vagrants were allowed to utilise the facilities of the fuel station, Toilets, access to water and even retrieving materials from the waste storge at the back of the premises for building materials.
The vagrants moved to another part of the suburb and the battle to evict them started again. This was successful and now they are back at the Engen, only this time they are sleeping on the premises.
I contacted the operator Nomani Magadla about this on the 19th of April this year. in copy were management from Engen Nosi Mokele, Nkosi Mabso, Zayda Siers, Bethual Selaelo Raseona and Buelwa Keseni.
Initially Nomani thanked me for the information and promised to deal with the situation in conjunction with her security company. Sadly, and unfortunately to date, nothing has been done and the vagrants continue unabated.
I am utilizing this platform to complain as Nomani is ignoring my follow up mails. I also get no response from any of the Engen management listed above.
I appreciate that the image below looks fairly innocent, however, this situation has serious safety concerns for the surrounding residents one of the vagrants has been abusive and has also attacked a resident. The situation also has dire consequences for the property values in the area should they be allowed to construct the camp they were evicted from last year.
Desired outcome: Evict the vagrants and ensure they are denied access to facilities to prevent them from setting up camp on the surrounding greenbelts.
