Engen Umhlatuzana owner Nishal does not pay for repairs after filling vehicle with wrong fuel!
Please be wary of filling fuel at Engen Garage Umhlatuzana. This business should be shamed and its owner fired upon for causing damage vehicles and then are unable to sort the issue on the vehicle out.
After asking the attendant to fill diesel, the attendant marked with a trainee shirt, does not have his own tag and then asks for the tag from another employee and then fills petrol in a diesel vehicle whist a went in the garage to buy a beverage.
I then pay for the fuel and head home (100m Away). Within 50m the vehicle switches off and refuses to start, I then go back to the garage after opening my fuel cap and smelling petrol. They then check the footage and keep me waiting up to 30 mins only to speak to its owner, Nishal via a Phone Call. who doesnt know how to speak or to run his garage, his attitude is that its his business, his garage, I should shut my mouth and listen. We end up in a heated arguement and I leave the garage and contact Engen head office, Head office greases Nishal and then I suddenly get approval via email to take the vehicle to its dealer. (Shown Below)
Vehicle is modified so VW can only assist with the cleanup procedure and no other repair work, the clean up was done. The vehicle was collected with the engine check light on, which indicates engine malfunction.
I have contact Nishal & his garage about this but now they know after the cleanup, the vehicle is showing issues, they know this is a bigger issue and so blame and liability its trying to be passed because I had taken the vehicle to its dealer, which they authorised. The vehicle is a SEAT and as such is owned by VW, therefore servicing & parts can all be done at VW. They say this is not the dealer for this vehicle and so the liability moved to me, even after paying the invoice.
Absolutely horrible experience from this garage and its owner, please stay away from this place. All their pumps contain petrol, even those with diesel logos. they only keep one diesel tank in the front of the garage and nowhere else. If you do not know this garage and maybe park outside a tap, becarful, they may fill water in your car.
The staff are untrained and have little to no experience in the fuel industry and is quite alarming if they know any safety protocols. The owner has no way of speaking and when you have filled incorrect fuel in someones car, you should be apologetic as possible.
We have been trying to get assistance from Engen SA but we need your help in sharing this post and making it known. Engen SA should come to the party as the group owners and make a decision to strip this garage of the Engen title and allow Mr Nishal to rather buy into the Astron garage. Engen SA should have high standards and excellent customer service for something like this.
Currently I sit without a fully functional vehicle. I am driving around a vehicle with a misfire and engine faults and Engen SA, and Engen Garage Umhlatuzana and Nishal its owner have not come to the party.
This business should be named and shamed for filling incorrect fuel in a vehicle and not take responsibility for the issue. So far, for 1 week I have been without a vehicle, there was no mention of a vehicle hire, a single phone call from them or a letter or verbal apology for the inconvenience caused.
Please do not use this garage, you will end up in a never ending problem with this garage & its owner sorting out your vehicle.
Recommendation: Go to a garage with better service and staff with better training and a humble owner.

Engen operator allowing vagrants to utilise the service station
I am a neighbor to the Engen service station on Molope drive in Rand Park ridge, JHB. Last year a group of vagrants set up camp opposite to the Engen and it took our community a lot of time, energy effort and expense to evict them. All the time, the vagrants were allowed to utilise the facilities of the fuel station, Toilets, access to water and even...

Dear Engen I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my concern regarding the petrol price at your station. As per the recent government regulations effective from June 5, 2024, there was a mandated reduction in petrol prices. However, when I filled up my vehicle today, I noticed that the price at the pump had not been adjusted...

Good Day,
Today (30 March 2024) at about 17h00, I visited the Engen Filling Station in Sedgefield in the Garden Route, on the N2 to refill my car. I put in unleaded fuel to the amount of R746, 23. I was so disappointed that, not only was the Clicks points system inactive, but I could not be given a cash slip for the fuel that I have put in as well.
I have waited over 45min, as the Service Station personnel tried to reboot the systems over and over and over again so that I can at least receive a cash slip.
I felt so pity for those committed personnel as there were fewer clients that were very upset with them due to the same reasons that they can't be issued with cash slips and the points system was not working.
I have never seen such a pathetic service. It was clear that either management is totally incompetent or they don't just simply care about their customers.

Unprofessionalism
Please educate your petrol attendees to treat everyone with dignity and respect. A few your staff members have resorted to suttle racist remarks and this behavior will not be condoned. If they do not realize what the impact of their actions or words are then Engen is at reputation risk as it would be perceived that this type of behavior is condoned. One person cannot be addressed as Sir or Meneer and a person of colour as yster and other racial slurs. I used to fill up at this garage a few times but now I steer away as I do not have an appetite for this type of behavior. I may not be the only one so again, please teach your staff about customer service, professionalism and being brand ambassadors. Their racist tendencies they can keep for their family and friends. If I am subjected to this again in future, I will seek legal advise to pursue this further and will not be against the individual but against Engen.
Desired outcome: Treat all customers with dignity and respect

Hygiene / putrid urine and ammonia odours - Engen On-Stop Mossel Bay
Dear Sir/Ma'am
13h40 - 8 February 2024.
Filled up with fuel at Mossel Bay Engen 1-Stop.
The toilets were in an unsanitary condition. Reeking of ammonia/urine. The toilet floors were also sticky and dirty floors. Altogether nauseating.
What was concerning is that the supervisor and staff had misrepresented their checks and balances, clearly signing off on work and procedures when in fact, none or few had taken place. See attachments for actual picture records I took of alleged work done.
I could not eat in the restaurant or purchase food after this. I was left feeling quite queasy and sensed that the overall hygiene and health/safety of the business was lacking.
Moreover, your head office communication email bounced my email to you and on searching the complaints sites, it appeard Engen ignores complaints and shuns any responses.
See pictures below
Thanking you
Ron Weissenberg

Hygiene
I have always held Engen to a very high standard. Your garages are exactly what one needs especially when traveling long distance, you have friendly staff, clean facilities and what I experienced in an Engen Garage in Vryburg North West Saturday 14-10-2023 in the afternoon was completely the opposite of what I am used to when stopping by your garages to...
Read full review of Engen PetroleumAssault by engene garage employees
Good day
We hereby lodge a complaint against the employees of Engen garage situated at Elias Motsoaledi Road, Soweto, Johannesburg. On the 25/09/223 at about 01:30 am, I was at the Engene garage that is situated next to Tshepo Themba hospital in Soweto to fill up the petrol. Ayanda, who is the girl-friend to my friend Edward, packed the vehicle next to the petrol pump and I went out of the vehicle to pee. Petrol attendant that was assisting Ayanda called his colleagues and suddenly I was badly attacked (assaulted) and my friend Edward was beaten up too. After the attack I went straight to the nearest hospital for treatment.
We therefore would like Engen Garage to look into this matter and advise accordingly.
Thank you
Kind regards,

Service
Benjamin from Hughes Boksburg who insulted me for questioning why he poured petrol and it did not gauge, I was insulted both by him and his colleague they did not even bother to give a till slip they proceeded to call security on me and later told me I will sleep by the garage. Benjamin doesn’t deserve to work as an attendant he is giving the company a horrible picture of rude attendants
Desired outcome: I want to speak to the owner of the garage together with the attendant
Petrol Attendant (trainee) left my oil cap open, car damaged. The service station is not helpful at all.
On the 23 June 2023 I went to this petrol station to fill up my car and all the necessary(tyre pressure, windscreen wash, and to check oil levels and water levels. the petrol attendant informed me that there was one pint of oil short and I agreed to purchase the one pint. I asked him why any of his colleagues were not helping him as he was doing so many things on his own. I paid, went to work which is a ( 5 minutes distance from Engen). later that day I had to travel to Pietermaritzburg as I go there almost every weekend. After work, I drove to PMB- as I was driving, the car started smoking, loosing power and literally started failing on me. i stopped and called my mechanic. They came to the scene, opened the bonnet and realized that the oil cap almost fell as it was not closed at all, there was oil spills everywhere the Engen. the Mechanic drove the car for remainder of the way to PMB and told me to park the car. I went back to Durban on the 26 June 2023 evening, and the morning of the 27 June 2023 I went back to the petrol station and informed the petrol attendant of what had happened. He told me he would inform his supervisor. We went back on the 28th June 2023, where we spoke to the manager and he said the boss will get back to me the following week as they were still on some celebration.
On the 05 July the manager forwarded me WhatsApp messages from his boss vaguely stating that I should go report the case and deal with my insurance. I tried calling him after he sent the messages and he had no interest in listening to what I had to say.
My car is not functioning properly, and it is not insured. I took it for a evaluation with the mechanic and he told me that the car was seriously damaged by the oil spill on the engen. I do not have money or means to fix my car and I feel like I am on a dead end as I am not getting any constructive direction. Please any kind of help will be appreciated.
Desired outcome: I would like for the company to pay for the damages caused by the oil spill, please :-(

Incorrect card transaction
ON 25 May 2023 at 15H37, I filled my vehicle, a Hyundai Matrix GL, with Petrol at Flamboyant Convenience Engen, Rocky Drift, White River, 1241
The petrol pump displayed the amount of 48.85 litres and R1 161.16.
I tapped my FNB Card at the speed point machine offered to me by petrol attendant, Winston.
I then noticed the amount of R1 234.15 had been debited from my account and not the R1 161.16 as per the petrol pump.
I contacted the manager at Flamboyant Convenience Engen and explained the situation and sent him a photograph, via Whatsapp, of my receipt.
He advised he would investigate and get back to me.
I have had no response from the manager, and am most disconcerted that the attendant could so easily process a fraudulent amount.
Please advise further steps I can take, I will be discussing this matter with my local newspaper as well, and highlighting this issue.
Desired outcome: Investigation into fraudulent transactions by attendants, explanation as to the total disregard from the manager to the problem.
Service
I asked the attendant to wash windscreen. Clearly he wasn't in the mood. He didn't wash and dry window properly, I asked him to dry nicely as soap could still be seen on windscreen and to dry underneath wipers. He stated at me. I told him to give me the paper so to dry it mysel. He actually wanted to give me the paper! As I was about to get out and do it myself, I decided to NOT do it. It is not MY JOB! I asked for the manager, only then he wiped the blades and windscreen properly. It is not my 1st time to get bad service from this place. I absolutely despises this garage and try NEVER to stop there.
Petrol attendant racist

Place-engen garage midway mews midrand
I will rate engen 0 for service after supporting them for years
Waiting in line to fill petrol I ask attendant with long dreadlocks can I park at this bay to fill as he finished with previous car,he just looks at me,then he says yes, there are cars in front and behind me,he say reverse as if he will pay for damages, very abruptly he say pump won't reach just being racist and difficult, I know and he knows it will reach, I requested him prove to me it won't reach,he refused and just grabs a yellow cone and tells me closed.i requested for his manager or supervisor, he says they don't have any, then he says he thinks that is his supervisor, how unorganized is this shame for him, this supervisor only acted busy and refused to come, what example is he leading his staff, probably if I was black I would get the best service, complete racist staff members of engen, what did I do to receive such bad treatment, these individuals don't take their job seriously and make engen look like a circus with clowns entertaining themselves. I left without being assisted and will no longer support engen as they are clearly promoting black apartheid
Engen Fairmount petrol price overcharge
28th February 2023, 13:48 I filled my tank at Engen Fairmount t/a C & B Motors Sydenham Johannesburg and paid for 29.52 litres of Unleaded 93 petrol which equates to R22.65 per litre where the board on the pavement clearly displayed R21.63 per litre for Unleaded 93!
I only realized I was overcharged when I went to Caltex to fill my other car with Unleaded 93.
I immediately went back to Engen Fairmount at spoke to the owner from the cashiers mobile. I told the owner that I had been overcharged and that what he is doing is illegal especially being a busy day before the petrol increase at midnight. He said that I must be nice to the cashier and she give me the refund for the difference and that I must stop shouting as I don't understand, and then he ended the call!
Desired outcome: That Engen Fairmount be blacklisted as they brought Engen"s name into disrepute due their dishonesty which could possibly include a pump closure of seven days.
Engen Ennerdale
Good day,My name is Monique, i am based in Ennerdale Johannesburg South.
On the 18/02/2023 as a loyal Engen customer my daily fuel refills always takes place at Engen.
As the petrol attendee came to assist with pouring petrol i stated how much as well as which fuel, when the attendee finished i than asked for him to pump my tires, he stated that he will not pump my tires as i am young, i am a 21 going on 22 young female, and i cannot ask any assistance for any petrol attended, as i approached the manager, as he was on duty as well, the manager laughs at me and walk away, and instructed by the petrol attended "Go tell my manager there is he i don't care i will not pump your tire's"
Please tell me as a loyal Engen customer is this the treatment we get, and how many more young or old customer's were told the exact same thing,
i am honestly shocked by the poor treatment as i do receive great treatment from all Engen garages I've ever went too, what's next pour our own petrol?
Desired outcome: I would honestly like some changes, and i would appreciate for this petrol attended to be dealt with, or i will go on all social media platforms and name and shame these petrol attendees that work for Engen.
Service
I came to the garage and found some station closed and waited at behind the Bidvest car. Then when it was my turn, the filling lady helped the guy with payment and never came back to assist me. She just looked at me and continued with her stuff. I step out of the vehicle when the truck next to me left and I came before it. I opened the diesel cap and went to the car and start searching for the nearest engine station. I then went back to close the cab then went back in the Bakkie. I was so angry and late and the garage was not busy. Attendent stood there and watched. As I was I about to leave one guy came but I left and drove +-10km for the other Engen garage. The daveland Engen must be closed.
Desired outcome: ClosedApologyThe lady must be fired
Damages and poor customer services
So as I was saying when we went out the car to confront him he started explaining that he was trying to open the lid when he pushed it fell. so we approached the manager on duty to explain the situation and everything was agreed that they will pay for the damage prior to that we get them a quotation. On the 3rd Feb we gave them a quotation from GPS (Germans Parts Specialist) in PTA WEST, which amounted to R805.00. They refuse to reimburse us for the damaged.
Today we went again to the garage as were called off by the station manager by the name of Adam he told us that they will not pay for the damages and that the station is not responsible for the damages "according to the footage this lid was already damage and it just fell." We disputed his case because if the lid was already broken it could have fall on the road to the distance we traveled from home to the garage.
I feel like the manner on this case was treated unfairly and the services and the services or the conclusion was not fair. The way he spoke to us and his tone on how he said all that telling us that he won't pay for it and even this is not the first case he dealt with it, it just shoes us that their customer services is poor and they don't care for their customer.
I would like this matter to be dealt with URGENTLY for the cap to be replaced as it is not safe to be driving around with this cap not being closed.
Your urgent assistance in this matter will be highly appreciated.
Kind regards
Angelina
Desired outcome: I would like that the cap be replaces or pay for the damages as described ..the amount of the replaceable lid/cap is R805.00
Allegations of stealing diesel
Aggrievance Letter to Engen Garage Midway
I would like to express my grievance with the way I have been treated by Engen Garage Midway. I was arrested on 19 August 2022 due to allegation from Engen Midway that led to my arrest and spent a night in police custody (case No.572/07/2022) handled by Det. Ntshwane from Midrand Police station. I appeared in court the following day and the case was withdrawn, see attached docket documentation copy.
I always refill at Engen garage in particularly the Engen Midway, I am holder of Clicks loyalty cards (No. [protected]) see attached my recorded, I always use my Clicks' card loyalty programme that has my full contact details; hence my docket had my cell number and Gauteng home address. Engen Midway never took an effort to call me and enquiry about the payment that was not cleared.
I was assisted by the Petrol Attendant Trainee Mr C. Seshoba on 19 July 2022 for diesel refill of R800,000 VAT Inclusive, the garage maintained that payment was uncleared, and I ran away. How can I run away without paying and return the following week to refill on, see attached receipt. You may check the record I refill at that station every two weeks between and my day of arrest. I used my VISA debit card did not go through and I used my Woolworths credit card to pay and Mr Seshoba advised me that the printer is faulty I then drove off and my statement shows that the transaction went through then got reserved. I was not informed of this my Engen Midway, Woolworths, advised that the transaction was cancelled by someone.
I only received my renewed license disk yesterday after three (3) months of hassle with police and JMPD langlaagte license department sending me from pillar to post. Ultimately, I have spent R11,000.00 VAT Inclusive for attorney fees to get me out of prison, police clearance process, roadworthy test and obtain a license disk and new registration. I would like to request reimbursement for the costs incurred unnecessary from wrong allegation that led to my arrest.
I thought I should write to you first, if no response is received within ten (10) days, I will turn to The Office of the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO) for justice.
Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to your positive response.
Yours Sincerely,
Thandile Mhlom

Credit card dispute - overcharging 100 times
I visited Namibia from SA, drove by Henties Bay Fuel Center (Swakopmund, before entering Walvis Bay) around 11 a.m. on 24 December 2022. Before entering the desert area, I decided to top up the tank, which was not much, around 380 NAD. The transaction was posted to my credit card on 30 Dec. 2022, but the amount became 37916 NAD! I did not know what's wrong. I wrote via email to Engen in SA as well as in Namibia, through email addresses which I could find online and I have not heard any response. I am pursuing the dispute with my bank and credit card company now. If you know of any channel I can alert the Engen people to check their accounting system that would be very helpful. The name of the credit card holder is WONG Yuen Ling. The credit card is a VISA ending with XXXX XXXX XXXX 1163.
Desired outcome: Engen will revert this transaction!
Rude service 😒

I have been waiting for about 20 minutes now. I will never used Engen ever again. SB Shole0720552150
