Have been an inactive trader for a few years. Left some stocks and cash untouched in my Etrade account. Now that I want to start trading again, I could not log in. The platform accepted my username and password but then required a phone number after. Before I can just log in using my username, password, and a security code.

Steps done:

1. I tried logging in as usual with my username, password, and the given security code but could not get pass anything.

2. I tried just my username and password, it verified but cannot get in my account unless I gave my mobile number. That's fine since I did register my mobile number with Etrade. But now, it said that it is unable to match my name with my mobile number.

3. I tried calling the listed toll-free number in my country but it cannot even patch through.

4. So I called the international US number +[protected] as per Etrade's website. A Filipino man answered, said it is not Etrade but an emergency toll hotline and he is in the Philippines and not US.

5. Left a message on Etrade's Facebook messenger, no answer.

6. Wrote to [protected]@morganstanley.com. Received an automated reply: "If your inquiry is related to assistive technology and/or access to the platform by people with disabilities, please be assured your concerns are being reviewed by a member of our team and we will be in touch within two business days. Note: If your inquiry is related to other access issues such as resetting your password, problems with multi-factor authentication or you require other technical assistance you will not receive an additional response from this mailbox." It is just for people with disabilities.

7. Wrote to [protected]@etrade.com. Received an automated reply: "This mailbox is not monitored and correspondence sent to this email address will not be viewed and may be filtered or blocked. Legal notices, vulnerability reports, customer service inquiries, unsubscribe/opt-out requests, data subject access rights requests, complaints, and other customer-related correspondence should not be sent to [protected]@etrade.com."

Cannot get in touch with anyone from Etrade. Please help.

Desired outcome: Desired solutions:1. Etrade representative reach out and explain what happened to my account. 2. I can trade as I have before.

I am presently getting the same song and dance as YesSolved of PH. I am in the US, Seattle. I have been actively using the account, making trades and taking dividend payments out to supplement my Social Security. Then all of a sudden and without warning it tells me to ask it to send a Magic Number code to my phone number. Unfortunately it is a Skype number. Last time it worked but that was about 2 years ago. Skype died last Spring and I can join Microsoft Teams for "free". But the Teams app will not install on Windows 7. I can use the browser Teams app and it does load up. But the magic number sent by Etrade does not appear. This has happened before with Skype, but Skype and Etrade somehow fixed it before Skype died in Spring 2025. So now I am locked out of an E-trade account with $190,000 worth of stocks and about $1500 in dividend cash I cannot access. Yet Etrade sends stuff to my e-mail address, just not the Magic Number code.
I suggest Etrade fix this before I file a lawsuit.
Several suggestions to the Wizards of Smart at Etrade.
Enable the live human beings at the Morgan Stanley office at Suite 5200 601 Union Street, Seattle to be ABLE to help Etrade customers. The divisions of Morgan Stanley need to be able to talk to each other. I know, a radical concept that.
Fun fact: There was a live human being office for Etrade in Seattle but the last time I went there the doors were locked and inside I could see construction workers replacing dry wall. On the door was a "For Lease" sign with website and phone number info. The "Etrade has moved to" sign telling me the new Seattle address was not there.
This is an example of how cost cutting über alles management has its disadvantages. Any Etrade broker can see this with stocks that decline catastrophically because cost cutters and bean counters cannot tell the difference between meat and fat. But their customers could and they went elsewhere. Those customers who got burned sent the lawyers.
Have an option to send the Magic Number code to the E-MAIL address. This is how My Chart does it and I find that convenient. And yes, health issues are supposed to be super duper private, just like financial issues. But they seem to be able to make the "send the Magic Number code to e-mail address" option work just fine.
One last thing: Establish customer service by E-MAIL.
Problem with phones is that the traditional Ma Bell land lines have not been maintained and I had to switch from Centurylink Internet access using a land line to Verizon using 5G Radio Waves.
And as we can see Skype turning into Teams Incompatible with Windows 7 stinks on ice.
