About 2 months ago I attended my niece's funeral whom was killed by an (alleged) drunk driver. This was the first time I visited the majority of my family in 7 years. My sister and nephew started a memorial page for my niece. I was amazed at the kind and wonderful responses they sent to her "group". For nearly the week I visited, there were around 500 posting from her schoolmates, long lost relatives and friends. I was urged by my family to join, but when I tried to join, I found out my e-mail address was "disabled". I tried repeatedly to contact Facebook's Help Desk from my home e-mail address and through work, yet I never received an explanation on why my address is disable when I never had an account with them previously. I am totally unimpressed with their "customer service". I was urged by family to create a new e-mail address and try starting a Facebook page again... it worked and I'm now communicating with my family. My main worry is why was my e-mail address "disabled" in the first place? Is it being used by someone else nefariously? Is someone defaming me without my knowledge? Serious concerns that I need answers to. Since I never received previously a "Sign-up Notification" that should warn me that someone was using my address, I believe there is some serious glitches with Facebook that need to be looked into. Hope I can get some answers. If anyone had a similar experience, I'd like to know.

Hello Everyone. I'm not sure whom this "Irish" is, and I do not see the comment she made that brought most of your responses "off topic", but I appreciate you giving her a tongue lashing. Unfortunately, most of the "on topic" information was not very reassuring. This company, I believe has far outgrown it's capability to acknowledge their IT and customer relations problems, which you can see is starting to effect their Public perception. The privacy screw-ups they have been dealing with lately are their biggest concerns, and I doubt they will do anything about my problems until they really start losing more new members. I'm really happy with what I've built on my page so far, and have 44 friends contacts. If I somehow was "disabled" again, lost all my contacts, would i create a new one and start over. I doubt it. Hopefully there is someone whom can give me a constructive answer to my "disabled" dilemma, so at least I can feel safe that my "disabled e-mail address" is safe. Thank you in advance for your responses.

facebook has been giving me a world of headache lately. for the past month it's been giving me transport errors, http errors, and a few other ones I don't really remember what they are. these occur when I try to update my status or post to other groups.

they really need to do something about this. and why aren't they doing anything about the annoying ads on the homepage?

facebook doesn't make it easy for you to contact them, like myspace. it's almost as if they don't WANT to be contacted. well, how else are they going to know about user's complaints or questions?

Transport errors are one thing, but not being able to read mail for a week is another! Every time I try to read a message, I get 'service not available'! When can I read my messages?

I received a link in my Facebook e-mail from a friend who is on my Friends List. It was an invitation to look at some new photos that he had supposedly just posted. I tried a couple of times to follow the link - only to find that it was bogus.

Later this week I began receiving messages from other friends on my Facebook list that they received an invite from me and have also realized that this is a scam. I am not sure how this is happening, but I am now afraid that I have inadvertently sent a Virus to some of my friends.

Facebook dont make it easy at all! Site maitenance...wot a joke! i have been trying for weeks now to log into my fb account, like so many of fb users i also am very pee'd off with the lack of so called customer help. I would like to know if they do actually have technicians on fb!. No phone number just email addy! wots all that about?! is it cos they know the amount of complaints were gonna be high they thought its better not to? i wonder!
Maybe we should all start a page of our own called "facebook for the annoyed"? lol!
I would like to know where they find the so called technicians... the circus.
Maybe, the more complaints that are put together then fb MIGHT... JUST MIGHT take people more seriously and get off their ### and get on with fixing these problems that arise!... Am i annoyed too damn right i am!

I am using facebook from about a year. I used to meet my family member who live abroad and brothers and sisters and all my friends everyday. But then suddenly one day when I tried to login to My Facebook account. I found that my account is disabled.

I emailed them for 1 month but no reply and tried to call them again there is no one but stupid answering machine.

One day I got reply from them mentioning that "WE HAVE DISABLED YOUR ACCOUNT AND WE DONT GIVE ANY REASONS WHY WE DISABLED YOUR ACCOUNT. YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT. WE ARE NOT GONNA LET YOUR ACCOUNT BE ENABLE AGAIN. THIS DECISION IS FINAL."

I mean seriously, what is this? I dont know what to do I have filed a complaint against Facebook already in BBB but I dont think they are gonna help me much. Because Facebook remains Underground, no contacts, I wish i could meet them personally and beat the hell out of them.

OMG! I have been on Facebook for about three weeks. Millions of people log on every day. What is up with this "down for site maintenance" crap? They should take lessons from Yahoo or alot of other 24/7 sites and figure out how to keep things running.

I might be Deleted from Facebook because I warned my freinds of this Trojan you get from a private message! There is no way to report this to Facebook at this time! The person that sent this to me really didn't!
She has been deleted! I might be next? Why?

This is the second time this has happened to me! Facebook does not handle this right and has no way to report it! I did what I could to alert friends there. I did stop two people so far from being infected!

Here is the Cause I started on Facebook to stop it!

facebook people are not monitoring posts on the discussion boards. some people have already used abusive words and content. i joined a group and suddenly there is someone who tends to bully everyone who have posted something on that discussion board. i already reported that user but that user is still active and still continue to do the same thing. some abusive and degrading words are pertaining to the members and that also includes me.

Some game company called, "Warstorm" has their advertising of naked women on fire pop up when I go to listen to my iLike videos! I don't know how to stop this humiliating add from rudely and vulgarly intruding my privacy. I tried to stop it by rejecting them from sending me stuff but it didn't work it still pops up and now my Facebook isn't working properly at all after trying to send a complaint (? ?) It won't let me see my history or my iLike or anything except what's on my first page! It didn't have a place to report them of vulgar pornography. I am ashamed and embarrased because I hope all my friends didn't see the same horrible thing when i sent them a good video for Easter (T T) Can some one stop Warstorm from doing this?

Pakistan Court Orders Facebook Ban

i have seen a news on al jazeera that facebook is banned in Pakistan, i think that Boycott facebook is must for Muslims ; Facebook is behaving like racists,
IF YOU LOVE MOHAMMAD ! BYCOTT FACEBOOK AND JOIN MSNSITE.COM NOW WHICH IS THE FIRST EVER MUSLIM SOCIAL NETWORK ON EARN, MSNSITE HAS EVERY THING, GROUPS, CONNECTIONS, MESSAGES SYSTEM, VIDEOS, EACH AND EVERY THING WHICH CAN SEEN IN A BEST SOCIAL NETWORK ; MSNSITE HAS EVERY THING FOR YOU, SO WHY FACEBOOK ?

We are really proud to be the 1st nation who has boycott the facebook which was trying to do blasphemy of our beloved prophet Muhammad Peace and blessings be upon HIM.

Namaz Achi Roza acha, hajj acha zakat achi,

nA JUB TAK KUT MAROO'N MAIN KHAWJA E YASRAB KI IZZAT PER, , ,
KHUDA SHAHID HAY KAMIL MERA EEMA'N HO NAHI SAKTA!

A Pakistani court has issued a ban on the social networking site Facebook after a user-generated contest page encourged members to post caricatures of Prophet Mohammed.
The Lahore High Court on Wednesday instructed the Pakistani Telecommunications Authority (PTA) to ban the site after the Islamic Lawyers Movement complained that a page called “Draw Mohammed Day” is blasphemous.

Sajjad Chaudhry, the presiding judge, instructed officials with the ministry of telecommunications to submit a written reply to the ban by May 31 when courts will open a detailed hearing on the case. A ban is to be enforced in the meantime.
"We have already blocked the URL link and issued instruction to internet service providers, ” Khurram Mehran, a spokesperson for the PTA, said.

About 20 people carried banners outside of courthouse in Lahore, condemning Facebook and praising Prophet Mohammed.
Protest
Lawyers also petitioned the Pakistani government to register a strong protest with Facebook’s owners.
"The competition has hurt the sentiments of the Muslims, " lawyer Chaudhry Zulfikar Ali said.
Facebook users in Pakistan, however, told AFP they could still access the site after the ban was imposed on Wednesday.
Officials with the Pakistani government told the court they had already blocked Facebook pages relating to the competition, but the lawyers group argued that no part of a site can be banned unless the entire site is blocked.
Pakistan has 45 million Facebook users, according to lawyers.
The Facebook page for "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day" had just over 40, 000 supporters while the opposing "Against Everybody Draw Mohammed Day" had more than 53, 000.

There are a few reasons why your email address would be disabled, perhaps some other user typed in your email address when joining, or someone with a simular email address joined, broke terms and conditions several times with simular email addrss so all simuler emails would be disabled.

Irish - Did you get banned or something? What's with the new s/n?

Also, OP... it could very well just be a glitch. And since you never received a "thanks for signing up" message from Facebook, I would doubt it has anything to do with someone nefariously using your information. Don't stress it.

Irish in back, that is a very rude thing to say to someone. This site is for people to complain and I agree that some people take things a little to seriously, but to tell him that "if this is the way you are your niece is better off dead than having to deal with you" is uncalled for. This website is to give helpful advice on things, whether you agree or disagree with the complaint. I'm glad you got banned. You are rude.

You're right Brenda it doesn't say anything in the terms and conditions about "giving helpful advice", however it does state this: You agree to abide by all applicable local, state, national and international laws and regulations and are solely responsible for all acts or omissions that occur under your name or email, including the content of your transmissions through the Service. By way of example, and not as a limitation, you agree not to:

Use the Service in connection with surveys, contests, pyramid schemes, chain letters, junk e-mail, spamming or any duplicative or unsolicited messages (commercial or otherwise).

Defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights (such as rights of privacy and publicity) of others.

If I'm not mistaken Irish, you are violating the terms and conditions.

You know, I just find it amusing that someone who believes that people should "stand up for the little guy's basic human rights of fair and equitable treatment!" would condone such behavior from a 15 year old child. Then again, I'm sure that the people who are posting these complaints, overlook such immaturity and ignorance from the people that have nothing better to do than to curse and belittle them.

Aye, Brenda, while I agree that we are free to speak as we please, especially over the internet, there are certain things we should abstain from saying, and commenting on how a recently deceased relative is better off dead is way out of line and I'm not talking about according to the ToS guidelines. It's one thing to be a troll, to annoy and disrupt, but it's another to go so far as to not be human enough to recognize a comment like that should never be said to anyone. It's gotten to the point where Irish has crossed that line, where it is no longer her just being a teen idiot, but far worse. I laugh at some of her posts because as much as I hate to admit it, she brings some funny into the boards, but it's not worth THAT much, and any "respect" and tolerance I did have of her, I no longer do.

What a ###.

One main reason that you may have a 'banned' or more likely 'deactivated' account is because Facebook did a lot of revamping and updating, and if it took you a looooooooong time to update your profile or even log in, for a lot of the accounts that were not verified originally when they were set up, were deactivated (this is what happened to my old account). Main reason for that being is, because once your account was set up (again a long time ago) and they made all those changes, it would have also thrown out the option to have another verification email sent to you. Because with the new updates, technically speaking, everyone had a new acct. It made it easier to disable that for all accounts over X amount of time. Your account, presumably fell under that catagory.

But on another note, I doubt that Facebook really cares that you can't log in for the simple fact that it's free. You don't pay them and they don't make any monthly income off of you. So you making 1 accounts or 1, 000 accounts is no big deal to them. Which is also why they [I would assume] don't have a very 'serious' or helpful Pr or IT department. They get all their money from advertisements, and in fact, the more accounts you make, the better for them!

Dont worry though, your account isn't being used for any kinky Facebook Message action. or any super kinky Facebook chat macking.

My sympathies goes out to you and your family. It is very difficult when you have lost a love one. I really do wish some people would be more considerate of others when posting comments. I do not see the rude comment everyone has responded to, nor do I care to look for it.

Rather than being rude, try considering posting helpful thoughts, comments, and knowledgeable information to help others in dealing with their situation rather than just posting useless information. You may have knowledge about a situation someone is going through that they are fully unaware of.

facebook is awesome. Period. Lots of news about how they're crossing the line with the privacy act. I say, whatever. Want privacy? Ditch your cyberspace world along with your cell phone.

The site is made in a free country, which some may say is too free. People create ###, just b/c they're bored. This kind of stuff happens all the time. Know how many anti-semitic groups there are on Facebook? And how bout Youtube?

Its really hard to monitor everything. Facebook is out there to make money and they do it well.

There is another social site with cool blocks, etc and they actually pay its free members back up to 70% of their add revenues. I love it, its free and it has some cool games, and a nice email program and its all free

Facebooks pre-log in security test is ludicrous. If they want to delete an account they ought to just delete the bloody thing. I know ppl who've rejoined FB six and seven times after FB blocked them out of their accounts with this same stupid test. Now it's my turn, and I'm not rejoining. I have the distinct impression Facebook is being run by monkeys, and has become a waste of time.

Facebook has disabled my account without giving a specific reason. In multiple emails they have given no specific reason as to what I have done wrong. they did not state which specific incident, prompted by account being disabled. Facebook also baits users to get their account disabled by encouraging actions that will get their accounts disabled. Their warning system is not functional, because just the mere fact that a warning message has been displayed can be a reason for a user's account becoming disabled. Facebook gives no specific rules( limits on friend requests, posts and comments per day) which users can not help being confused.
Facebook is a big company, there is no customer service number to handle all their complaints. Thousands of other users also have the same problem.
I would like to have my account reactivated and receive an apology for deliberately baiting users to get their accounts disabled.
