I live 3 blocks from Fareway meat and grocery in Beaverdale. I am end stage renal failure on dialysis and have herniated discs in lower back forcing me to use a cane …when even possible. I go up to store to get turkey deli meat every other week. (As it is lean and I can only eat lean meat.. low sodium, etc. due to medical condition). 4 th of July weekend..11:00 AM Sat. All I want is the deli meat. I am told “it is cooling down and to come back in 30 minutes. WTF? As I am leaving I run into a co-manager “Elena”. I explain my medical issues and situation with no product available to buy presently. I “beg” her: would you take my cc number and have someone please deliver it when it is ready, as I am about ready to collapse (forgot my cane). I only live 3 minutes away. Arrogant and totally insensitive answer:”I get it, but no.” I replied: “”Clearly you do not “get” it.” Her totally insensitive and arrogant Reply: “Have a nice day.”

This is not first time I have had issues here. A year ago, I made the mistakeof going in the Kate afternoon…high school kids playing on iPhones, behind deli counter. An African American boy approached me. I asked him politely if he would please put on some gloves. He rolled his eyes and looked at other kids standing 10 feet away. Without saying anything, he pulls out 2 gloves while once again rolling his eyes, and “slowly” pulled one on and then the other. With my medical condition.. and asking a simple request as putting on gloves.. what the hell is Fareway hiring these days? You really can only get the lowest of lowest to run your stores efficiently? Hyvee is a little bit more expensive, but I will return shopping online/delivery with them in future. NEVER AGAIN FAREWAY! Senior citizen on social security, disabled with end stage kidney failure! You don’t give a [censored]! After all, I am just one person, right.. nothing to be concerned about!

Recommendation: Good luck when shopping at Fareway! Your chances(if you need help or special request, your chances of getting a “decent employee” is 50-50 chance. As far as I can observe and report my past experiences, they discriminate against the disabled and elderly as well. Hyvee us the better choice by far!

Forget Fareway. Their lack of empathy and poor service is unacceptable, especially given your medical condition. Switch to Hyvee or another store that offers better customer service and delivery options. Make your health a priority and choose businesses that respect and accommodate your needs. Don't settle for anything less than professionalism and care.
