Purchased a new Travel Trailer March of 2021. The same day we picked up the unit and took home, the slide out slipped off track and was stuck semi-open. I immediately contacted General RV and requested an emergency service writer since we were leaving for vacation the next day. General disconnected the drive unit for the slide and advised I bring it back for a complete rebuild, literally 2 hours after purchase. I asked to return the unti for a refund and was told that because the title work had been signed, I could not return, ever the same day. General RV did eventually repair the unit. Later that year, we used the unit and again the slide was malfunctioning, sliding out uneven. General realigned. Recently, the slide slipped off the track again and General says they will not repair. I reached out to the RV manufacturer - Forest River - they advised that they had paid to repair the unit twice and were unwilling to pay anything else. At this point, I asked General to provide me with all documentation concerning the unit's repairs. When I read through the documentation, it clearly states that the unit has problems with the slide twice BEFORE I purchased in 2021. At no time did General ever acknowledge these issues, not at purchase and not when I brough the unit in the same day for repairs. The documentation also mentions using 'two crowbars to make fit' when repairing the slide. I sent all of the documentation of the problems to the slide mechanism manufacturer, and they offered to provide the parts to repair free of charge, stating that it was highly unlikely the unit was ever repaired correctly from the get-go. The trailer has been used a grand total of 5 times since purchase and there have been three slide slipping issues. BUYER BEWARE. General RV is not forthright in disclosing pre-sale diagnosed issues and they will not take any responsibility for those issues, even when their own documentation acknowledges fault. I HIGHLY recommend anyone interested in purchasing an RV, Trailer or Van to AVOID General RV in Ashland, VA at all costs.
Anyone have a contact for an attorney they've used for cases like this? I wouldn't know where to start?
Concerning to see your unit in General RV’s hands, considering their inability to provide transparency as well as commendably refuse to either resolve or even recognize the issues that were already there. Definitely you have the reasons to require adequate repairs, especially considering the available documents which indicate the existing problems well before the purchase of the trailer. If General RV is not prepared to support you we suggest you consider going back to Forest Rivera and taking full scope of the repair history and documents to them. Seeking legal counsel or getting in touch with consumer protection organizations can also help ensure your issues are taken into consideration.
