Chaz Dean Studio review: Can't cancel auto ship 126

This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

I have been trying all day to call the number included on my order to cancel the auto ship for the Chaz Dean/Wen haircare system. The message I get is "Due to extremely high call volume we're unable to process your call at this time. Your call is important to us. Please try your call at another time." I did email them and tell them to cancel the shipment, but I've got a feeling that's not going to work. If they ship it, I'll dispute the charges. It infuriates me, first with myself for falling for such a scam, and with them, for pulling it in the first place. And I saw them selling the product on QVC just a few weeks ago as well. I wonder if they're aware of what a scam Chaz Dean is running? Maybe I should post a complaint over there too!

Stop complaning because you can listen to the offer on tv or from the sales rep. Acting like you did not know it was a autoship I ordered the product over the phone they told me as they do I am sure with everyone because they are required to by law that I would get Auto shipd but could cancel at anytime. What kills me about post like most of these is that the person ordring it does not want to say hey I messed up I didnt call and cancel in time and got a 2nd shippment. No they just want to cry and act like they were scammed the real scam is you DONT LISTEN when ordering somthing.

Wen worked GREAT for me. It is the ONLY product I have put on my hair for the past 2 years. Even when I go to get my hair cut, I bring my Wen and asked them to wash my hair with it instead of their products.

BUT... NEVER get ANYTHING on autoship! Not matter what the product, it is almost impossible to stop those things without canceling your card altogether. When they stop getting your money, you will stop getting product.

I buy Wen by the gallon from Amazon. It is a pricey initial purchase, but I only have to buy it once a year at the most. And for the rest of the year, I don't buy any shampoo, conditioner or ANY other hair product. It is just nice to breeze buy that section of the store everytime I go.

Notify your credit card company and they will deal with them. Promise that is the only language they understand. It works I did it. They are being investigated already.

This company has the absolute worst customer service. Money back guarantee my foot! (And I say that because to use the verbage I would like to would be inappropriate for posting on a public board!) I received my first month's shipment and like everyone else, it CAME NO WHERE CLOSE TO BEING A MONTH'S WORTH, not to mention I hated the product. It made my hair greasy and when I slacked off of the amount I used (as suggested by their experts) it did absolutely nothing for my hair. Due to the fact that they "trick" you into a 3 month supply by putting that in "fine print" that I absolutely do not remember seeing anything about, my account was debited the $37.95 and I was sent another "month's" worth of products. I immediately called their customer service and was told that I needed to refuse the shipment upon delivery and then the money would be returned to my account. They also said that they had cancelled the rest of the 3 month supply order! Over two weeks has passed since I refused the shipment and I still have no money in my account (big surprise)! When I called this morning to find out the status, I was told that it could take anywhere from 3-6 weeks for a refund, possibly longer. I was then informed that ANOTHER order was scheduled to be debited from my account and shipped to me next week, even though I had cancelled the entire order! This is absolutely the worst customer service I've seen in a very long time, if not all together. They are unethical, non-customer friendly, and absolutely unprofessional in their way of duping customers. I want nothing further to do with this company and am going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. This company is a fraud and nothing more than another scam to get money from customers!

I love the product after the first 10 times that I used it and I finally learned how to rinse it out properly. I ordered it from G.R and recieved excellent customer service when I called before my auto shipment was up to cancel autoshipment. Thr rep was very friendly and canceled the autoshipment. I now recieve my shipments through G.R but i get a reminder that I may need to reorder and I can call them and tell them to ship it if I want it. They do not mail it if I dont want it. I have to call and authorize it first. I pick the items that I want and get charged for it when it ships. I am very happy with this option. I have no unauthorized shipments or credit card payments. call [protected]. It was so easy.

Please don't buy the chaz dean products because it is greasy garbage. Make sure you cancelled your paymnet method: credit cards, debit cards, checking or savings account to keep them from constantly taking unauthorized money out of your accounts. Trust Me.! I deactivated my credit card to keep chaz dean from taking anymore money from my account after I cancelled my order with them. To my surprise, I recieved a call from them 30 days after I cancelled my order I recieved a call from chaz dean's customer service operator who stated, "Hi Mrs..., we have been trying to bill your credit card to for the next monthly payment but could not because were informed that your card had been cancelled." I said, "Yes, I cancelled my card to keep you guys from taking payments after I cancelled my order." According to the cust. rep. she did not see an order cancellation in their system. Trust Me! chaz dean is a SCAM!

I ordered wen first through the wen phone number or whatever. I hate the automatic payment scheme, so I immediately cancelled with absolutely no problems. (I always figure if I like the product, I can always CHOOSE to order more, instead of forgetting to cancel and losing that choice.)
Anyway, I liked Wen. It wasn't the miracle product it was made out to be, but I do like it. I went online to order more and found that you can get it cheaper and without the automatic payment deal if you order at chazdean.com instead of the wen.com.
So instead of getting all worked up over the billing methods, if you want to try it just go to the other website and order what you want when you want it.

I called [protected] and talked to an agent very promptly she was very helpful and got everything done within 3 mins! I think people having problems have waited to long after ordering to cancel if your within the first 30 days your not going to be on autoship. Try the number and see. But always read the fine print I knew it could be reoccurring if not cancelled promptly. These products do work i just want to try the Fig from QVC. Hope this helps.

I am trying to do the same. Since it is automatically withdrawn from my account, I will have my bank refuse payment. Maybe they'll call me instead.

I had the mis-fortune of sitting through the Wen info-CD at my cousin's house as she received a bottle of the Chaz-Spaz for Christmas. Not berating anyone for unknowingly signing up for this hogwash...or should I say sausage?...but once I bore witness to this "man" and his cream I quickly arrived at the conclusion that this was a scam; and a gay one at that. How did I figure that out? Well, when someone tells me I gotta drain a 50-gallon hot-water tank by repeatedly washing/rinsing my hair and excessively pouring their product upon my head to the point of inducing water intoxification, then it becomes obvious he's only trying to sell me more of his spunk. I'd be willing to bet this Dude struck it rich just from his sales going out to San Francisco...or he at least got a lotta phone numbers.

Someone I know literally had to cancel their credit card, and guess what, they sent her more orders, and billed her, and sent it to collections when she did not pay.

On Feb. 16th I received a special offer to purchase one 30-day supply of the Sweet Almond WEN and received an email later that day that my order could not process because of a problem with my card. I thought "Okay, that's fine, I don't have to worry about it now that I've read all these bad reviews." Wrong. It turns out my card DID process, but they weren't about to hand over anything for that special $9.95 price. On Feb. 22nd, I received another email stating that my card has been charged (even though it was allegedly declined) $55.94 and my order was on the way. I swear my head almost exploded. I called [protected] (which I found HERE, not on any of their customer service listings or emails, so thank God for you guys!) and she explained that it was my single 30-day supply being shipped, which I am now suddenly paying $55.94 for instead of $9.95. That is a straight-up money hungry company. My card was not declined for Proactiv, nor for WEN's ridiculously expensive membership, yet it was allegedly declined for the special trial price. [censor]. Fortunately the woman I spoke with was understanding and cancelled my membership, reversed the charge, and all I have to do is refuse the package when it arrives to have it sent back. Be VERY careful with this company.

If I ordered from the Chaz Dean salon and not thru the Guthy-Renker am I on the auto ship also? I had already made the mistake of ordering thru Gunthy-Renker without realizing I was on the auto ship. I got right thru on the phone to cancel but we'll see if it is carried out and said I was returning the box. Now I'm wondering if the order thru the Chaz Dean salon is going to be auto ship too. I looked and looked when I placed the order and didn't see anything about auto ship.

I too, was bilked by this company, and given the run-a-round when trying to cancel. The product didn't perform any better than my old shampoo and conditioner, go figure. I noticed that even though I cancelled this account I was still being charged! I called my bank to stop payment, but it was to late, I was advised to file a dispute resolution and they my bank would make deal with Chaz dean. I called Chaz and threaten to go to the attorney general with my complaint after reading all of the complaints against them. The person I spoke with Holly promise me a refund within 24 hours. In view of this if any of you reading this would agree, I think a class action suit is necessary to prevent others from experiencing the same heartache. I truly don't believe that Chaz Dean is aware of this issue. I can't find any address or phone number anywhere to make him aware of the problem. If anyone has that information, please post it.

I completely agree. I was very irritated that it wasn't made clear that I was signing up for the "90 Day Club." Although I really liked the product, their business practices are clearly awful. Due to the fact that I am moving out the country I needed to call and cancel the service. I dialed the 1-800 number listed on the website and instead of pressing 2 as I had done before (which indicated that I wanted to cancel the service) I dialed 3 (for other inquiries) and was connected to a representative. She was helpful and canceled the service. I hope this helps!

This is one more customer complaining about Wen by Chaz Dean Hair care product. Talking to their sales person is easy and simple. However, once they get your credit card number is like handing them the cookie jar…they can’t keep their hands away from the cookies.

The Wen by Chaz Dean Hair Care Company treats you like a beauty salon, which uses their product every ten minutes, throughout the day on multiple customers. They push on you their product with a single concern, to exploit and abuse the confidence you as a customer give them.

Here is their hidden business agenda: Their motto is not about hair care, but “get them for all you can.” Their philosophy is “as long as our customers have money we keep taking.” Their ethics are, “we are not stealing; just keep sending the customer the product, the more the better.” Their slogan is, “you do not have to worry about making payments…we have your credit card to take care of our bill.” Their psychology is, “we work out our customer consistently, precisely and persistently by getting their comfort level up and their will at our hand.” ARE YOU SURE THAT YOU DESIRE TO BE WAN CUSTOMER? BEWARE!

I have been using the product on and off, the problem is that it is way too expensive and it's not very convienant to buy; not to mention the suggested amount of product is just INSANE! Who can afford to apply 20-30 pumps of shampoo and cost you $50 o more and not even get a months worth of product! I would continue using if was not so expensive, I quit referring it to my friends as well!

I had cancelled my products after the first shipment in Sept of 2010. My cc has been bill EVERY month since then (from Oct 2010 to May 2011). The over charges were almost $300 after a small refund of $158 in May 2011. They did admit that they received the returned second shipment, stated that they refunded my cc - but no refund in 2010 appeard... just further monthly payments to GRC Chaz Dean Company. The amounts were different every month - ranging from $30 to over $50! I had to cancel my cc to stop them. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY - THEY ARE THIEVES!

I had no problems cancelling my order (once I figured out how to go about it)...however, like many here, I felt duped into the auto ship program. Why on earth would someone order a "trial" or "introductory" package for a 3 month commitment?
The whole idea is that you are giving the product a "try" to see if it works for you. I only found out after the fact that I was hooked into an auto ship deal that I certainly did not want and with good reason, the product first of all offered no real advantage over any other hair product I have tried, secondly the bottle doesnt even last a month because they instruct you to glop this stuff on in copious amounts. I could go to a hair dresser every month and get washed and set for the price I would be paying for this package.

Same problem. Horrible product (the hair gets greasy and flat), need to use a lot, which makes that product ridiculously prohibitive. Then received more product because I did not know I had been lucky enough to enroll the "Home Delivery Program", with an automatic charge each month. Could not reach them by phone (they were all busy answering complaints from unhappy customers, I guess). So I wrote, and got those pre-written answers...
Thank you for writing regarding Wen® by Chaz Dean!
When you placed your original order from our website, information was provided for you to let you know that you would be automatically enrolled in our Home Delivery Program. This program sends you a 90 Day Supply of product to you after 30 days. You have the ability to customize your order to fit your needs, and if necessary, cancel your account if you are not completely satisfied. The text as provided on the website is as follows:
WEN® Healthy Hair Care System 30-day supply Sweet Almond Mint. By ordering now, you'll receive your first 30-day supply with Free Bonuses. After 30-days, you'll conveniently receive a new 90-day supply every three months and you'll lock in the special low monthly price of just 32.99 a month, plus $10.99 s&h per shipment.
As we did not receive a request to cancel, you were shipped a 90 Day Supply of Wen® products. The total cost for that order is $114.91 which is broken into three payments of $32.99 to be billed to you monthly (your first payment includes shipping, handling and any applicable tax).
Had to be really nasty to force them to cancel my order and take back the 3-month supply I had just received.

I see that some people say how friendly they are, no doubt, but they still are going to rob you blind if you let them. What are they going to say and do honestly think they are going to be honest? Don't fall into the trap. You all have good, honest minds, they do not! Follow it up with action. I am providing a link of the FTC and I suggest you file a formal complaint. Do not feel stupid about falling for their scam. We live and learn and knowledge about this type of behavior is your only power.
I copied a part of the FTC consumer rights to help.
Ftc.gov
If you receive merchandise you didn’t order, federal law says you can consider it a gift. You can’t be forced to pay for the item or return it.
Under the Rule, the salesperson must tell you about your cancellation rights at the time of sale. The salesperson also must give you two copies of a cancellation form (one to keep and one to send back) and a copy of your contract or receipt. The contract or receipt should be dated, show the name and address of the seller, and explain your right to cancel. The contract or receipt must be in the same language that’s used in the sales presentation.

Do not feel stupid that you were scammed by them. You are good, honest people that just wanted good hair :). The best thing to do, is not take the "polite" response by the person in their customer service department. Do you really expect them to show their "horns" now? You need to follow up with a complaint to the FTC. I submitted a formal complaint online. Go to Ftc.gov and then if enough people complain, then they will investigate. This type of scam goes on all the time and the FTC needs to know.
Below, I have copied and pasted, from the FTC website, some information regarding the consumers rights. The best way to "right the wrong" is to become educated on how your rights. The scammers of this world succeed in playing on your fears and ignorance. You are not afraid and you are not ignorant, they are!
Contact your bank and make them aware. Stop any payment to this company. You are protected. Know your rights!
(copied from the FTC.gov website)
You’re protected by the FCBA when you use your credit card to pay for purchases.
Billing Errors
If you find an error on your credit or charge card statement, you can dispute the charge and withhold payment on the challenged amount while the charge is in dispute. The error might be a charge for the wrong amount, for something you did not accept, or for an item that was not delivered as agreed. Of course, you still must pay any part of the bill that isn’t in dispute, including the finance charges on the undisputed amount.

First off you people are dumb.. cause you have to agree to the terms on their website for the membership before ordering the entry kit and its on the infomercials.. also explained by the reps on the phone when you order. You can cancel those at anytime, if they are busy try a different time..shouldnt be an issue since they are open 24 7... and if you hate the product so much send it back.. hence the money back gaurantee.. they refund product even if the bottles are empty as long as its within 60 days. Or just continue to complain and give your credit card info out ignorant to the terms you happy click through to get what you want. In no way is it chaz deans fault or guthy renkers fault if you cant read or listen :)!

I should have known better. If this was truly a quality/superior product WEN could market this product and sell it in the store or salon and compete with the other hair care suppliers. Just cancelled my subscription. Even though I changed my delivery dates to every 3 months I received one at 1 month (which I now still owe money on). Called today to cancel and chose the automatic phone line, after 2 attempts to cancel (they give you options to choose of why you are cancelling) and then having to listen to their pre-programmed responses which did not ever cancel my order I selected the option to talk with customer service. He also tried to talk me out of cancelling. Finally he said my account was cancelled. We'll see . . .

My advice - don't buy this product unless you can try it RISK FREE (no future shipments). It probably would work well once in awhile for people with thicker hair, but mine is baby fine and it didn't take long before I lost all volume.

I have fine hair too dj.. I use the lavender. That is what a rep reccommended to me for fine and thin hair a few months ago.. it works great! I will never use shampoo again. Anyway, I do not understand what all the fuss is about. I cancelled my shipments before and had no issues, of course I still owed a balance because I do the installments.. so after I cancelled my account I was still charged two more times and at first I did not get this. After calling the customer service they explained this to me, which made sense.. I had the product so of course I would finish the payments. I have returned product and had no issue with a refund. I guess everyone has their own opinions, but personally I just feel like people complaining are complaining for the wrong reasons.. it gets under my skin when I use the product every day and love it and have many friends who do the same and also will never go back to shampoo. Bottom line, if something isnt working..ask why.. call customer service.. see what scent is best for your hair type.. see if you are using it correctly.. if you want to cancel your membership do so.. but do not assume that you will get your half paid shipment for half price.. of course you still owe the company for it. If you think its too expensive or cant afford it.. what in gods name are you doing ordering from infomercials/online anyways? Seriously... ugh people drive me crazy!

I worked for Guthy|Renker recently, which is a marketing firm that markets for Wen, Proactiv, Proactiv+, X-Out, Meaningful Beauty, Sheer Cover and probably one or two other products advertised on TV and Internet.

They are all the exact same business model and all calls go to the exact same call centers. You get roped into a 'continuity' or 'replenishment' membership program and your card is charged on a one pay or a three pay (all at once or once a month for three months).

You DID sign up for the auto-ship program. Look over the website; it's there in small, grayed fine print and I agree; it IS a scam, which is why I quit working for them.

It's not exactly illegal, but it's unethical IMO.

Emailing to cancel will NOT work. Trying to cancel or do much of anything else on their websites won't work either, most of the time. They'll say the website is having issues and they know about it and they're working on it, but trust me: they're NOT working on it. Their goal is to get you to call in to the call center where they will either try to upsell you or if you call to cancel, down sell or modify your auto ship so you don't cancel your membership.

I've seen people get jerked around for months on end and even had to deal with overdraft charges from their bank b/c they charge your card every 28 days.

Basically, they're doing everything intentionally and it's a rather complex system they use to keep you on their hook. Their websites are ALL 'broken' on purpose. They want you to call in so they can con you out of more of your money.

They make it very easy to join and extremely difficult to cancel. 90% of the calls they get are cancel calls and they'll go to all sorts of lengths to NOT cancel you, including telling you that they're going to and then NOT doing it, which means your card will continue to be charged and product will continue to be shipped.

If you don't want to play their game, just cancel your card with your bank and have them issue you a new one. Keep in mind they'll keep shipping you product and keep billing you and if you don't pay, they'll send the account to collections.

So, first just cancel your card & order a new one. Then call Wen, Proactiv, or whatever the product line is that you want to cancel, and just demand right from the start that they cancel your order in it's entirety.

They'll try to ask you 'clarifying questions' such as "how much product do you have?" Which is intended to distract you from canceling and give them an opportunity to down sell you so you don't cancel. Don't play their game. Just insist they cancel IMMEDIATELY, no matter what they say.

Tell them to cancel EVERYTHING.

Give yourself plenty of time to be on the phone with them as the process can get dragged out for an hour, but you have to be determined to seeing the cancelation through, or they won't cancel you and you'll just keep getting billed.

Insist on getting the name and confirmation number every time you call.

They'll use every little distraction and method of tripping you up that there is.

It's all designed to separate you from your money; don't ever doubt that.

I wish you all good luck; you'll need it dealing with these sharks.

I had no problems cancelling my subscription. I was not given a hassle. It was a very positive experience. I was offered a return label to return the last shipment that I had not opened and was told I would be refunded what was charged to my credit card upon receipt of returned products.

I ordered one box of Wen by Chaz Dean for $34.95 and end up being charged over $100! The company have stated that I was on a payment plan. I have had to cancel my credit card. This is a scam and will keep on charging your credit card till you cancel it. Do not give this company your details. It will ruin your credit history

NEVER BUY! I ordered a 30 day introductory supply. In the very fine print, they later point out that they had signed me up for their endless club, where they automatically charge me and ship product. My credit card has been billed another $106.89 on top of the $40 I was charged for the $29.95 introductory 30 day offer. I called them and was on hold for ever. If this product is any good, why does he have to stoop to such sleazy tactics?
