Poor quality furniture and unresolved issues
I ordered office furniture from Haverty's one month ago. Had furniture delivered and it needed repairs. Scheduled a service call. They came out and couldn't fix the furniture. Had the file cabinet replaced. The books cases now needed repair. Called for another visit. They came out and within 5 minutes said he could not repair it alone and needed another guy to help. Once again scheduled another service. Both repairmen came out and once again could not fix the furniture. Now will have to have the middle bookcase replaced and another delivery date set up. Five visits later, the furniture is still not correct. Customer Service supervisors are worthless. I will never buy furniture from them again and will be reporting them to the BBB. I'm sure they won't compensate me for the inconvenience they are causing me and my office. I will have taken 6 vacation days out of my schedule to accommodate their poor customer service. When I buy so call "quality" furniture, I expect it to be perfect upon delivery. I will be telling friends and family to not buy from them.

High Prices
I tried to negotiate a discount on a home office collection sold by Haverty's. The Chateau de Vin collection is manufactured by Aspenhome and is modular in construction ... you can mix and match different components.
Haverty's quoted me $5, 000 for the set of components I was interested in. I asked for a 20% discount because I know the margin in the furniture industry are high. I was immediately told that Haverty's has a "no haggle" policy and they could not adjust the price.
I contacted Aspen Home and requested other retailers in the Dallas area that sold their merchandise. I was referred to Weirs and Charter Furniture. Weirs for similiar components (slight differences) quoted me approx $3, 300. Charter Furniture for the same components (from what I could tell) quoted me $3, 000.
I contacted my sales person at Haverty's and alerted her to the price discrepancy. The "Asset Manager" at Haverty's returned my email, and informed me that the Aspen Home furniture that Haverty's carried had "added features" from Weirs which accounted for the difference in pricing. I am an amateur woodworker, so I was interested in what the added feature were ... I went back to Haverty and thoroughly looked over the furniture at Haverty's and could not note any "added features" other than pull out lighting on the hutches (certainly not worth an incremental $2, 000 in my opinion). From what I could tell, the furniture was identical (other than the pull out lighting) to the furniture at Charter and Weirs.
I asked for a complete list of added features that would account for the increased price ... as of yet, no response from Haverty's.
This just proves ... Caveat Emptor
D.Yates. wrote, but provided an invalid email address, and stated I was completely out of line with my comment. That a 20% discount was way too high and unreasonable. She stated that Haverty's pricing was completely fair and was evidenced by the fact so many furniture companys are going out of business because they can't make a decent profit. She questioned what type of business I worked in and whether I would ask for a discount at a grocery store, the doctor's office, a retail store such as Walmart, when purchasing a new car, or whether the customer of the business I work for would ask for a discount. Here is my response ...
Obviously you are connected to Haverty's ... Lets see ... I bought the same Aspen Home Furniture from Charter Furniture for $3, 000 vs $5, 000 at Haverty's ... The only difference was the two hutches I bought did not have a pull out light feature which was a Haverty's exclusive option from Aspen Home. Charter also provided zero interest financing just like Haverty's.
So $3, 000 at Charter furniture is a 40% discount from Havertys price of $5, 000 ... I have to believe that Charter Furniture is a for profit enterprise also. I know the pull out light feature does not add $2000 to the cost of the furniture.
Looking at Haverty's financial statements their gross profit is approximately 50% ... incredible! Most companies could only dream of gross profits in the 50% range. I worked 20 years in the IT Services industry and the gross margins were in the 15 - 20% range with a net margin of 6 - 8% and I currently in the airline industry with gross margins of 8% and net margin of 6% The problem is Haverty's has SG&A that exceeds their gross profit. If you read their financial statements, store rents and occupancy costs area constitute a significant portion of SG&A. The financial statements discuss changes in the various items that make up SG&A but fail to give you the beginning or ending amounts of each item in SG&A. I am sure investors would like a little more disclosure in this area in Haverty's financial statements.
No doubt SG&A is high due to occupancy costs ... the stores are fantastic ... spacious, well laid out, and glitzy ... the problem it consumers don't want to pay for that ... consumers want to pay the bare minimum for goods and allow a company to make a REASONABLE profit and consumers do not want to (and will not) pay for a company's poor management decisions.
I looked at several furniture stores and all of them except Haverty's had their showrooms packed with goods and were not glitzy like Havety's ... granted these stores were family owned enterprises who need to make a profit because a loss comes out of the owners pocket ... such as Charter Furniture ... who again was 40% less than Haverty's.
Now for whether I would ask for discounts at:
- a grocery store ... no ... because competition in intense and you can always go to a low cost provider like Walmart ... not to mention margin in the grocery business are some of the lowest in business.
- Insurancy Companies - absolutely ... I have negotiated discounts with insurance companys by using competitive pricing
- Doctors offices - not directly ... my employer does that when selecting a health plan for its employees .. have you ever seen the hugh discounts provided to the health plans by the doctors on your EOB statements? The discounts are much more than 20%. I had minor surgery recently ... The bill before discounts was $10, 000. The health plan negotiated discount took $4, 500 off that ... thats 45%.
- Walmart ... no ... again, a well known low cost provider ... thats why they are the largest and one of the most profitable retailers in the world. Consumers know they are getting a fair price for the goods they are purchasing. The goods may not be top quality but they are fairly priced ... that is what consumer expect ... fair price for the quality purchased.
- other retailers ... Sears, JC Penneys for example - absolutely .. I have negotiated discounts on appliances. Oh and guess what they run "sales" all the time to attract consumers. Just purchased a $50 pair of levi jeans from JC Penney for $20 ... lets do the math on that ... 60% discount ... do you think they lost money on the sale ... don't think so ..
- Do my business customers ask for discounts ... Absolutely ... Large business are expects at leveraging their buying power. When I was in the ITServices industry .. 20% discount off our published prices was low ... customer usually ask for higher discounts and ongoing productivity discounts. When the company off-shored thousands of employees to India to lower compensation costs ... guess who came knocking at the door ... the companies customers ... they said ... you lowered your costs by using low cost labor in India, we should share in that cost reduction ... guess what .. the company shared the cost reductions. I now work in the airline industry for a low cost provider ... guess what, when sales are slumping, the company has to offer discounts to attract customers.
Perhaps Haverty's is not making money off its 50% gross margin business because its poorly run and wants consumers to pay for a broken retail model .. consumers as a whole are too smart for that ... that is why Haverty's is doing poorly. I guarantee if the losses Haverty's is experiencing came out of the management teams pocket (instead of investors) the SG&A expense would change dramatically.
Same warranty? Thats a foolish comment ... who in their right mind would pay $2, 000 for a warranty on $3000 worth of furniture.
Their prices are consistently high ...

I have received many non-advertised discounts from Havertys on purchases. From the effort you have gone to try and bash them, maybe it's just that you are an unfriendly person that created their own experience through brashness. There can also be more quality differences in furniture than features, but I am sure you know that as an amateur wood worker. Real customer, will put a real email if the comment program asks. Trying to impact a company because of your singular experience and your interpretation is almost as bad as when I was an area manager for a video store and customers wanted me to fire employees with families because they didn't enjoy their 3 dollar rental experience!
I just visited the Haggertys in Sunrise FL and in the 20 minutes I was there the sales person said to me 14 times, "what do you want to pay? make us an offer, everything can be negociated" Now I see that they have a no haggle policy. Just to let you know they took 15% off the already discounted advertised sale price when I walked out.
And yes I negociate almost everywhere I shop, When my oldest son was born 19 years ago the hospital my wife wanted to use was not on my HMO so I went into the billing dept, told them the price would be $2500.00 cheaper with my HMO at a nearby competing hospital about 5 miles away. They took $4000.00 off of the bill without blinking. When I just bought a 50" DLP Samsung large screen all it took to get another $200.00 off of Brandsmart USA's advertised price (the cheapest in town here) was to ask. Walmart discounted the PC I bought my daughter for school this year, just by asking. You are very foolish, in my opinion if you do not ask for a discount everywhere you go, yes the manager at the supermarket will price match also. It's too hard to earn the money to just give it away.
I'm sort of glad I read your post, I liked the furniture at Havertys but now I have to spend my weekend shopping for furniture with my wife because 40% above market price is OUTRAGEOUS.
By the way, talking about margins, for years I managed a few locations of national tire store/auto repair company that I will not name here and our GP margins on mechanical repairs had to excede 80% if you expect to keep your job as manager, and as far as tire prices go the did, and still do according to some of my friends still working in the field, have 4 different prices in the computer, a low ball price for phone quotes only, a high retail for someone that you find needs tires when they brought the car in for another concern, a mid price when someone walks in price shopping, and a "bottom-line" price only to be quoted if the customer is walking.
To believe you cannot haggle in almost any business is just not being careful with your money. The only place I do not try to get additional discount is restaurants.
I bet it didnt have the same warranty, havertys is an exeptional company.
Fraud and cheating
I purchased a lift chair for my father in April. It was not delivered until May. On September 12, the chair quit working with my father in a reclining position. (He's 84) Since then we can not get the chair fixed. Oh, we paid for the Golden Plan, but was told with a lift chair it would be repaired in 3 days if anything happened. Well today is October 15, and the chair still hasn't been fixed. My dad can not get up and down. He has been to the doctor twice to get medicine for his knees since this started. DON'T BUY Haverty's!

Look just call the store ask for the shop manager, thay will say he is at the distribution center, get that phone #, it is a eazy fix, thay most liky have the part on hand, the shop will hold parts that only thay know they have, the shop can cut all red tape and just fix it.
Again people, READ! Havertys did not make the merchandise. They are a distributor and are same as you, bounded by vendor's warranty and procedures. I find it really funny when people complain without really understanding how this works. I am not sure if this is just a brain fart or plain ignorance by choice. When you buy a furniture, ask first, who the original vendor is, what is the warranty. I did not have any idea what Golden plan is until lately. It is a warranty againts Customer damage only for 5 yrs, not against vendor defects! Obviously, you are ignorant by choice.
some parts are easier to get han other mechanism take from 4-6 weeks if you can find another funiture store that are quiker let me know, FYI there isnt one i know for a fact that havertys customer service will get the issue solved before 30 days, and it is a reasonable amount of time if you brake it
Terrible company
If you ever wondered why Havertys does not "haggle" prices... let me inform you as to why. The company has lost a lot of money recently and instead of reducing prices to help the consumer, they have raised them to make up for loses. Havertys will not lower any price regardless if you buy a house full or pay cash. Let me show you how much Havertys has lost...
Havertys loses $2.3 million.
By XXXXXXX -- Furniture Today, August 11, 2008.
ATLANTA — Havertys reported a second-quarter net loss of $2.3 million and said that with no end in sight to “brutal” business conditions, its focus is on controlling costs and preserving cash.
The loss for the period ended June 30 compared with a net loss of $1.4 million for the same period a year ago. For the first six months, the Top 100 company posted a $1.3 million loss, compared with a $520, 000 loss a year ago.
As previously reported, net sales for the quarter decreased 10% to $168.4 million and same-stores said fell 12.7%. The company, with 124 stores in 17 Southern and Midwestern states, also announced that its July sales were $62.9 million, down 7.3% from the same month last year, as same-store sales decreased 10%. The company also announced that it will no longer release monthly sales figures.
Through the first seven months, sales declined 6.6% to $416.5 million and same-store sales decreased 9.5%.
“The current economic conditions, which have had a brutal impact on the residential furniture industry, show few signs of abating in the near term, ” said President and CEO Clarence Smith. “Our focus is on cost containment and maintaining our strong balance sheet while enhancing our competitive positions in the markets we serve.”
Smith said gross margin in the second quarter improved to 51.2% from 48.6%, reflecting “our continuing commitment to closely managing our inventories” and the decision to shift more of the customers on long-term financing plans to third-party lenders.
Smith said selling, general and administrative expenses were mostly lower, but the reductions were partly offset by increases in delivery fuel costs and third-party credit expense.
In a conference call with the investment community, Smith noted several cost-cutting initiatives under way, including the use of new Web conferencing technology to cut travel and training costs; adjusting distribution and delivery schedules and staffing; revising its outsourced credit programs, moving to “more cost effective” promotions; adjusting advertising by market; and reviewing real estate leases for possible rent reductions.
He added that the company has cut its store growth plans and that its $7 million in capital expenditures related to stores are for projects that were initiated in prior periods and normal store maintenance. Planned capital expenditures during 2008 for distribution and information technology are $5.7 million.

The choice is yours. Either pay full price with Havertys, or shop around and find the same item at 1/3 or less the cost. I know what I would do!

I will NEVER shop for anything at Mobile, AL. Havertys Furniture again. You call and it takes forever to reach a real individual. I went into the store with questions concerning two mattress sales and they could not answer my questions. All the sales help could say is 'it is new to our store, we have had it for 4 months. " You can do much better by ordering on the Internet at reputable business's. At least they can answer your questions.
Oh please! You do not know the cost of production for this company. I agree they are high but why would you haggle when this is not a thrift store. Would you haggle for a price of meat at Walmart? No right?
Awful company
We bought a Vera Wang mattress set along with $10, 000 of other items from Havertys. Within 5 weeks the mattress was sagging heavily in the center. Their mattress "technician" showed up and said that he could see the sag. Then he whipped out a string with a weight on the end and threw it across the bed. Unfortunately the string wasn't long enough to reach across the bed but he did his assessment anyway. He said our problem was a "comfort problem" and nothing was wrong with the mattress. He also said we should have been rotating the mattress. For gosh sakes, the mattress is 5 weeks old! If it is sagging in the center and you rotate it isn't the center still in the center? At this time we are waiting to here from a supervisor. Hopefully he'll be more reasonable. We have been so far.
We financed $2500 dollars through Haverty's Furniture in one of those 2 year "same as cash" deals. We never received an invoice. However, we kept good notes and knew when the amount was to come due, who the players were, and so forth. A month before the due date of our payment, we started our attempts to contact the credit company and Haverty's. No one could find our account. The sales person at Haverty's suggested we just "forget it." No way, we thought.
After several phone calls, trips to the Haverty's store, and several letters, someone finally "found" our account. And, they subsequently took our money. Guess what? A few weeks letter we received a letter with our original $2500 account balance, late charges and two years worth of financing charges? And with a smile, we produced our receipt.
Please also see our post about the poor quality of our Haverty's furniture.

Since my last entry, I have received 419 more emails from people that I have helped and 186 new emails from those wanting assistance with locating furniture at 1/3 or lower the price of Havertys. The total amount of people contacting me about their savings was over 1, 000. The savings by consumers was far below the amount I originally predicted. Just by the numbers presented to me by those choosing not to purchase from Havertys, those consumers saved on average of $3, 500.00. Lets do the correct math. We will use a low number also to reflect those from the 186 email bracket. If 700 people saved on average $2, 000.00, Havertys lost a minimum of $1, 400, 000.00. That savings was passed directly to those consumers choosing to believe they could get a better deal for the same product elsewhere. The day will come when Havertys will have to take this matter seriously and be prepared to be judged not just on their ridiculously high prices but the lies concerning quality, protection plans and foolish delivery charges. I challenge everyone to think before you buy. Why pay more for the same product just because it came from Havertys. You can save thousands of dollars. So if you are interested in a product from Havertys, email me at enoch 17 @ wmconnect.com with the name of the item and I will tell you who makes it, where to locate a dealer in your area to purchase from and what you really should pay for the item.
I have bought furnitures from Havertys and they always do good with their warranty. My advise is, READ YOUR WARRANTY when you buy a furniture from any company. The papers they gave you from the beginning specified in the warranty forms how a technician would inspect your mattress . This is standard measurement for most, if not all of the bedding vendors. Why would you hold Havertys accountable for
being ignorant. They did not make the bed. They are one of the distributors. So please, do not insult other people's intelligence by your complains. Learn to read and understand what you are reading.
Stol, You rock! Telling the truth is what needs to be done here. The employee moral at Havertys is as low as a snails-belly, why? No raises for three-plus years, and then they have the audicity to spend 250k for stupid "Have" banners for the sides of semi-trailers and install them right in front of the employees!
No wonder so much stuff comes out of the warehouses torn-up, who cares? If I was a prep-guy I sure would'nt.
Then it's "Employee Appreciation Day" hahahahah what a joke. They feed you a burnt hot-dog or hamburger and expect your attitude to suddenly change.
We too purchased a Vera Wang mattress that was latex and it sagged almost immediately. We were told the whole rotating spiel as well and fortunately were able to return it after it became miserable to sleep on. They are very poor quality and we had heard that they are returned frequently. We then purchased a Tempurpedic which is the best night sleep ever. Good luck.
Hidden delivery fees 17% of purchase price
Do not shop at the Palm Harbor, FL store. The Manager is a rude, boor who bullies his personnel and customers. He could not be bothered to come out of his office regarding his insistence of charging $120 to deliver a sofa bed that we wished to have a professional p/u for us from the store. He said it was at his discretion whether to waive the hidden, mandatory fee. The fee is not printed anywhere on any materials. The purchase price of the item is $749 -- he essentially insists on 17% more money to sell the item to us. If this is how Havertys does business, they do not have stores, but rather, distribution points. The BBB will be on our list to inform of these unscrupulous, hidden fees which are at the discretion of a manager to apply or waive. Horrible management! Horrible store!

I spent over an hour with a very good sales associate looking at recliners, after deciding on a recliner I was in the process of paying for the furniture, when I was told that the delivery charge would be $100.00. This completely changed my mind. I am a senior citizen and find that when a delivery charge is greater than 10% of the purchase price that it is unreasonable. Now if you research recliners, you soon realize that all or most furniture stores are carrying recliners by the same manufacturers. They are clearly all about the same. I decided not to purchase from Haverty's, and purchased almost an Identical recliner for $50.00 less from your competitor. There delivery price was $50.00. This was about 6.2% of the cost of the recliner. As a senior I cannot move this furniture or pickup this furniture at the store, so I decided to shop around. I felt bad for the sales associate, but I got the impression he did not have the discretion to reduce the delivery fee. I do have to purchase an additional chair, but it will not be from Haverty's.
There is no such thing as a 17% delivery fee; if you choose to pick up you furniture you willnot get charge delivery. it might be if you bought a special order item and you wanted to return it for a full refund you will be asked to pay a 15% restoking fee. other than that if its a normal order you will refunded 100% of your payment
Racism
I have never been so offended in all of my life. My Mother and I were shopping for a sleeper sofa for her guest room. We found one that she liked, and asked the associate if we could still get the sale price from the day before. Our associate asked the store manager, who is white by the way, if it was possible. He abruptly said no, and we left to shop around. Well, my Mother still really liked the sleeper sofa that she had seen at Haverty's, so we went back. As we were waiting for the nice ladies at the front desk to ring our sale up, we overheard another sales associate asking the store manager for the sale price from the day before. HE SAID YES! And, what a coincidence, they were white!
I've have to deal with things like this my whole life. But, knowing that Haverty's is a southern company, I guess I should not have expected good treatment to begin with.
As for the sleeper sofa, we purchased one from Kittles Furniture instead. I will tell EVERYONE I know about my experience, and I hope others will follow suit.

If that is really true. I challenge you to name names and submit a complian to Havertys.com
If you won't then I doubt it.
Get over it this like this happen it doesnt have to do if your white or not i work for a retailer and its the same thing it really just marcket strategy
Stop gaslighting. Learn to listen to people’s experiences and educate yourself.
I am white, my haverty's sales person is black. Two days in a row he gave me the same quote for my furniture (15 items). Now he cannot sell them for that price unless I agree to purchase the protection plan or more furniture. Do you think it is because I am white?
New table from Haverty's looks years old after two weeks
I purchased the Balboa table from Haverty's and after two weeks the table begin to chip, and scratches begin to appear. If you write on a piece of paper the writing goes through the paper and comes out on the table in the form of a scratch. This table is not for daily use and Haverty's should have informed me of this. I asked for a table to use daily, now I'm stuck with a table that I can't use. All its good for is to look at. It would be worse if I had kids.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I would like to respectfully suggest that this person has unrealistic expectations of wood furniture - any pretty finish can be easily scratched. If u want an indestructible surface do not choose wood. It's actually instyle now: "Distressed" wood finishes which looked "used" and therefore will not show NEW scratches and look like they are beloved heirlooms.
I too ordered the Balboa set (bedroom set) and the finish is awful. Anything you put on it leaves a mark. Customer service is coming out this weekend to inspect, however they informed me the damage may not be covered. I have had the furniture about four months. Would NOT recommend this furniture to anyone.
Poor quality
My husband and I purchased a living room set from Haverty's in March. When the furniture was delivered on March 21st, it looked as though whoever scotch guarded the fabric sat the cans and their big butt on the furniture before it was dry. We had distinct circles on the ottoman and big smudges on the cushions that should not have been there and would not go away no matter what.
We had a rep from Haverty's come to our house who agreed that the upholstery was messed up and could not be repaired, but that they would be happy to replace everything for us.
We have waited and waited, only to be put off with different delivery dates every time we called. Then three weeks ago we were told the furniture had been discontinued and we would have to pick out something else.
Now, we had already painted for this furniture, bought drapes, and even had new kitchen countertops installed that would compliment the colours of the furniture since you can see our countertops from the living room, and now we have to start over!
Then two weeks ago we got a phone call from our salesperson telling us our discontinued couch, chair, and ottoman were in the warehouse awaiting delivery in one week. Great! Our salesperson told us she would personally inspect each piece before it was brought out to make sure we were not going to be disappointed again. Right.
When the truck got to our house, the driver told us the furniture comes from Atlanta and never gets near the store, so there was no way she could have inspected it for us. Also, it was so shrink wrapped that no one could have inspected anything.
My husband and I climbed up into the back of the truck and started to unwrap this furniture (no sense in taking it off the truck only to have to put it back on if not perfect) only to find mess similar to what we already had. The driver told us he has delivered many couches with this type of fabric but had never seen one such a mess like this.
So, now that set went back to Haverty's as did the first set, so now we have no furniture in our living room except for an end table and two lamps. Lovely!
Haverty's have offered us 20% off on whatever we pick to replace the Donaway Sofa set we had to send back, but we are not hesitant to do business with them.
And we are extremely disappointed with our salesperson. She was great as long as she was making money from us. We haven't heard a word from her since the furniture was sent back a week ago. Very frustrating experience!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
So, how much does Haverty's pay you to read these complaints and post replys?
Some people do redecorate around a whole scheme, and Havery's does have poor quality merchandise which is their problem and the customer's apparently because they are buying poor quality merchandise but theire prices are certainly top of the line!
I did my research around what you stated. Who buys a 6 or 7 hundred dollar sofa and massively redecorates around that. Talk about putting the horse infront of the cart. Counter tops! Window Treatments! I also found they have a 3 day policy. If you dont like it you can return it. I think you were in to much of a hurry and couldnt wait to get something. You cant be mad at the company. It sounds like they have done everyhting they could to make you happy.
High prices from employees point of view
Let me start off by saying that no one should ever shop at Haverty's and here are reasons why.
1: Furniture markup--- Haverty's furniture is so tremendously marked up far more than any other furniture store. Take a piece that costs $999.00 in the store, Haverty's cost only $299.00. A piece selling for $1, 999.oo, again Haverty's cost is $599.00.
2: Quality of product--- Haverty's product is not the best by comparison. I have seen so many returns because of the unit falling apart or just being delivered damaged.
3: Delivery cost--- Haverty's has raised their delivery charge from $49.95 to $199.99-$699.99. Haverty's just raised 60% of their product to cover high fuel costs and now they want you to pay another price to have your product delivered. You DO NOT have to pay this charge. If anyone pays this, then shame on you.
4: Protection plan (Gold-in Home)--- This "protection" for your furniture is a big joke. Salespeople are given free rang to lie about what this worthless plan covers. Salespeople get paid at least 25% of what you spend for this. The price can range from $199.00-$699.00. If you buy this plan, you might as well kiss your money goodbye. NEVER buy this. It does NOT work.
5: "NO-Haggle policy"--- Haverty's has started this no-haggle policy meaning that they will not discuss price with you. They believe and want you to pay what they say. Haverty's may tell you that their product is a Haverty's brand also. All of this is bull. Haverty's makes none of their product. You can buy 80%-90% of their product from another company at 1/2 the price of Haverty's. Just ask who makes the item and shop around. If they say that it is a Haverty's brand, laugh and walk away. They want you to believe this junk.
I should know, I worked for Havertys for over two years. I know all there is to know about this company.
1: Furniture markup--- Haverty's furniture is so tremendously marked up far more than any other furniture store. Take a piece that costs $999.00 in the store, Haverty's cost only $249.00. A piece selling for $1, 999.oo, again Haverty's cost is $599.00. A King Tempur-pedic Mattress that sells for $3, 199, Haverty's paid only $1, 299.00. You can buy 80%-90% of their product from another store if you know who makes it and all you have to do is just ask. They may give you the bull that it is a Haverty brand (Haverty's does not make any of their product).
2: Protection plan--- This is called "Gold-in Home". Each salesperson is pressured to sell you this bogus plan and instructed to lie about what it does and how it works. This plan can cost you up to $699.00 and it does not do what it claims. Each salesperson can make up to 25% of the total cost if you purchase this worthless plan. If you buy this, kiss your money good-bye.
3: Delivery cost--- Haverty's has raised their delivery charge from $49.95 to $199.99-$699.99. If anyone pays this, then shame on you.
4: "No-Haggle" policy--- Haverty's has started a no-haggle policy meaning that the company is not going to lower their prices for anyone at anytime. Haverty's will tell you that you cannot buy their product anywhere else so you must pay what they are asking. This is bull. If you firmly ask who makes their product and get a company name, you can find the same item somewhere else at a fraction of Haverty's costs. If they claim that it is a "Haverty's" collection, be aware that Haverty's does NOT make any of their products. It is all made by other companies. You DO NOT have to pay what they are asking.
How do I know these things---- I am a former employee. If anyone has any questions then just email me @ enoch17@wmconnect.com for full details on anything concerning Haverty's. Email me before you buy and I will save you time and money.
High prices
Let me start off by saying that no one should ever shop at Haverty's and here are reasons why.

I know there is a cost for Tempurpedic that is sold everywhere for the same price, but the retailer price is dead accurate at what you quote. People need to realize that that this company is ripping people off with their high mark-up. I am glad someone had the courage to speak up against this. I also see that you have a reference about the Manager at the Florence, SC (Tony Scott) location on another site. I have heard about this from many sources and I believe this Manager needs to be fired for harassing the female employees as well.
Old Enoch has had a little trouble with the law it seems. I am guessing he is a very reliable source on how companies operate. So Enoch, are you just stealing credit card numbers? Are you solociting to get us all better prices so you can steal from us too?

Your an idiot. Do you even realize Tempurpedic has MAP pricing. Its the same at every retailer in the country. ###
Poor customer service
I moved into an apartment while waiting for my home to be built. I bought a sofa & recliner with the expressed intent of going back to get the love seat when the house was complete. I told the sales person my plan and asked her to call me if they discontinued or put on clearance the set I had chosen. When I went back the set was gone. I had been in several times and bought other items from the same lady. Now I have a sofa and recliner ($3000) without the loveseat. They gave me cryptic information on finding the loveseat elsewhere, not enough to actually go on. I spent about $5000 in that store in less than a year, all from the same lady. I believe customer service could have been better!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
That has nothing to do with Havertys customer service, that was your fault, the world dont revolve around you, you could of special order the love seat.
Uncomfortable Bed
We bought a Sealy Posturpedic king size bed set from Haverty's and were told that there is a warranty. Before a year was up, the bed had a 1 inch sag. Haverty's sent out people to look at it. They said they couldn't warranty the bed until the sag was an inch and a half and that 1 1/2 inches is the industry standard for replacement. We have had to go to the chiropractor to solve our back aches from this bed yet we can't get any replacement from the company. I tried to go directly to Sealy but their website refers customers back to the retailer. We ended up getting an air bed online for $150 to replace the $1, 100 mattress and have solved our back problems. There is a problem if the mattress cannot hold up for one year and pit out under a 125 pound woman.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Their high prices from an employee's point of view
I have been employed with Havertys for 2+ years. I see how much mark up is with the furniture we sell. This amount is outrageous.
If you take a table w/4chairs that cost $999.00 on the floor, Haverty's cost for that item is $249.00. A Queen Serta mattress that costs $1099.00 on the sales floor costs Haverty's $399.00.
This is only 2 examples of what I see on a daily basis and I believe this truly needs to change. Haverty's now has a no "haggle" policy so that everyone must pay the same "mark-up" price across the board.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I bought the exact bedroom set from rooms to go and saved over $3,000 if I would have bought at Havertys. For example chest was priced at 1,000 at rooms to go. Same item 1,800 at havertys.
come on over to FOS Furniture! Corner of Delprado and Pine Island Rd. Cape Coral. We have an A+ rating with the better business bureau. We stand by what we sell. Ask for me, Anne, I will be glad to help you out.
Poor service by the store, salesperson, and especially customer service. We purchased a coffee table Jan 1. It was delivered without the four panes of glass. They ordered replacements but after two weeks only one pane arrived. They ordered it again but this time after two weeks only two arrived. They ordered again but after two more weeks I have not seen the missing pane. So now I have a coffee table with a whole in the middle making it unusable. I have ask them to pick up the table and refund my money without success. At this point I will Never buy from Haverty again.
After reading all the complaints about Havertys it makes me realize they did me a favor by letting me go. After 7 years working for them they fired me after I just lost my baby due to a miscarriage, after I missed a week of work to recover; not only did I call in everyday to tell them I was not able to come in, but the manager at the time who never came to work herself was not in, so I had to relay the message to the assistant manager. Somehow it must have gotten lost in translation because when I returned to work I was fired immediately! Haverty's not only does not take care of their customers, but their employees as well. I further learned that a salesman who was pining for my position way before I left was given my job... "Sounds fishy to me... politics!" Like I said, they did me a favor because who wants to work or buy from a company who lost their tradition? JJ Haverty would be disgusted with the way his company has turned out! Firing a woman just after she lost her baby, and not even caring (that is what hurt the most) Being loyal to a company only to have them turn their back on you. Word of advice their mark-up is well over 50%, their products are outdated... (they have had the same pieces of furniture since I started working for them), their customer care is ridiculous, and their treatment of their employees is unethical. Shop somewhere that at least has up-to-date products.
Wow..I not jumping sides or anything, but I think most businesses have a mark up of atleast 70%. That's to cover bills, employment, fuel, etc.. But at the sametime, with today's economy I wonder sometimes why they don't have a lesser mark-up. I mean let's face it, profit is profit! As long as you're not losing money should be the most important thing. I bought some furniture from Ashley's and I know what I paid for it is way less then what the company get it for, especially since they're supposively the ones that are making the furniture. But society is so use to paying top dollar for name brand that its the norm. I understand both sides to this Haverty dispute but the fact of the matter is that people are still purchasing furniture from them even with the high mark-up. So maybe that's why they're not going down on prices. Maybe they will lose their reputation if they take their prices too low. We will never know! But as far as paying for furniture and NOT receiving them is totally unacceptable! I dont care which furniture store its from. If you paid for the merchandise and its suppose to be delivered then it should be delivered at the time and date agreed upon or there should be some sort of compensation for the set back. That's just good old fashion business to me. I have a membership to buy items at factory prices and let me tell you...it's true about the mark-up! But I don't suggest anyone to pay $3000-$5000 to become a member unless you're building a house from the ground up and furnishing it as well! But I wonder, what company makes Haverty's furniture if they don't make it?
It's not just about Haverty's furniture mark-ups, but they have a habitual habit of covering up, selling and delivering damaged furniture. Their BBB report looks like they are one of the most reputable furniture companies in the industry, what a laught!
Everyone that has been taken by Haverty's needs to file a complaint, no matter how long it has been if the matter was not resolved. A pettition needs to be signed and sent to the attorney generals office in every city they are established.
Oh, by the way to the smart xxx who refers to Haverty's as being fair with respect... A lot of you employees willingly participate in what you know to be wrong doing by this company, i'ts like you "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil." I guess the set hourly pay and commissions is worth your own dignity and self respect you should have not only for yourselves, but others as well. REMEMBER WHAT YOU GIVE OUT TO OTHERS PERSONALLY AND PORFESSIONALLY > IS WHAT YOU RECEIVE BACK !
I went online to view my havertys email and spotted these remarks, now here is my opinion...Attention Havertys Customers...Yes you do have a choice, because we know you are an intelligent and savvy buyer. You come to us, for our quality reputation, for our furnture also for the FAIRNESS and RESPECT we offer to our customers. I dare you to come into our store in lewisville...you will be greeted and appreciated like an old fashion turn of the century Havertys.Kindness and respect are such a lacking quality in todays society. Im proud to say i work with some of the best people in the furnture business...Because we do enjoy and appreciate our customers and you will feel that, when you walk into our store...As for the comment on quailty, it may not be the exact same as it was in our grandparents day but what try to find anything now that compares to our ancesters time ..Im sorry you had a bad experience working with Havertys but REMEMBER WHAT YOU GIVE OUT TO OTHERS PERSONALLY AND PORFESSIONALLY > IS WHAT YOU RECEIVE BACK ...GIVE LOVE, GET LOVE.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Futhermore, to go on line to put us down is very, very sad.you must be in alot of pain i will pray for you to have this animosity leave your heart Im so sorry.but im sure you are a good person and in your heart of hearts i know you truly didnt mean what you wrote .The rest of us that work for Havertys, are trying to deal with life to the best of our abilities for ourselves and our familys. We are still one of the best companies out there. I can honestly say they we do treat our customers better then any other company i've seen. However, long before i came to work for havertys i dealt with them as a consultant on behalf of my clients, having shopped at other stores with my clients .Havertys brought satisfaction and closure to my clients challenges and situations, which occur when youhave bring human error ... Remember when we have manufacture issues that with the worlds situation economically and politcially, furniture companies are doing their best to keep up with there suppiliers.so when a piece of furniture is delayed its not the companies fault usually the ball got dropped from a manufacture supplier, so have patience. we dont get paid our commisions til you are happy at home nestlng in your new furniture with your feet up by the fireplace Therefore in inclusion let me say. im not getting any thing out of this in fact to me its not the about money, but rather the people that walk in to our door that need not only our furniture but want to be respected and treated like a human being. They may or may not buy from you but they will truly remember your kindness and Havertys. my slogan i say to my customers, , feels like home..because we all( our world)are in this together ... keeeeeeeep positive and smile even if you have to fake it eventually youre grow to like it.
Haverty's sucks! I can't say that I have experienced poor product quality because I have never received any of the products that I have purchased. First experience, a day bed. Eight months and gave up waiting for it. The store in Lakeland, Florida never could give me an exact delivery date. Took another chance and ordered a twin-size bed (you're absolutely right about large markup, pal - $1200.00 for a twin-size bed - nothing special about it). Anyway, I gave them a deposit and waited an entire month. When the expected delivery date came and went, I called them to see if the bed had come in so they could deliver it to me. They are still waiting for a part of the bed to be delivered. They said it would be AT LEAST another two weeks, so I canceled the order. Two orders and 9 months and still no furniture. HAS ANYBODY EVER RECEIVED ANY FURNITURE FROM HAVERTY'S? Some drug dealer must be keeping the air conditioning running and the lights on either that or President Obama has bailed them out too!
i guess you didnt make much huh, i bet you'vednever bought furniture in you life if you think a table and four chairs for the price of $1, 000 is too much if you cant pay sticker price wait untill the stoe has a sale which will some times have a 20% discount.
Apparently this person does not understand the company he/she works for. Or any company as far as that goes. This mark up is true in all companies, where does your salary come from, who pays for the gas to deliver this furniture, light bills, freight bills to get said furniture from point A loading dock to point B and to your dock. You are even paying more at the gas pump while oil companies are getting filthy rich. This is one of the reasons for your increase in prices for delivery etc...
Think before you speak, hopefully you are no longer in employment of such a wonderful company.
Any employee that would go online and write a complaint about the company that is putting a roof over your head and food on your table, SHAME ON YOU. If it is that big of a concern then you should go elsewhere. Oh by the way go work in a jewelry store and see what the mark up is.
Thief and liar
You all have some one that work for that company that lies and steals and do drugs. On a daily basis, will not take responsibilities for their own actions, no matter what they do, they beg, they steal, and lie! On a daily basis. That individual needs to be drug tested, as soon as possible. I am a concerned consumer as well as a paying customer. How can Haverty's Furniture Store can have someone that works in your company that would steal and lie and beg customers for tips? Because they deliver furniture. To the paying customer...they should be FIRED!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I wouldn't buy from them either. When my hubby and I went shopping for a new sofa there a few months back, they were having a sale. We looked around and settled on a sofa we both liked. The saleslady said, "Oh, that comes in lots of fabrics, you can choose a different fabric if you want!" So we sat there for twenty more minutes picking out the fabric we wanted. Then we found her again and said to her, "We've chosen (whatever the fabric was called.)" Then she disappeared for about five minutes, came back and announced to us, "That fabric is going to cost you another $300.00." There was no signage to that effect. We looked at each other, laughed at her and left without another word. So, she couldn't have told us that before wasting our time? That negated the sales price, and she was deceptive. Haverty's is sneaky, and we wouldn't go back.
Haverty's commercials are getting more stupid by the day. The redheaded couple in their commercials just don't have a clue. They advertise that you can design your own furniture at Haverty's. Wrong! You can only choose between what they already have in their inventory, and change the color of the pillows or sofa covering, if already available. I took my design to Haverty's to have them manufacture my design. They said they do not custom manufacture furniture. False advertising, and they should be sued. And as already stated, the mark-up is outrageous, and the quality poor.
Would you really know every employees actions? If you really are a concern consumer and a paying Havertys customer, report it to the management. Be proactive not just a bystander baby.

Thats the Havertys way. They sell sub-standard Chinese made products. Most of the "solid-wood" stuff is solid particle-board with a veneer, top and bottom to hide the fact.
You break a chair-bottom in half, that on the outside, including the bottom, looks solid, it is not! A lot of the high-dollar dining table legs, wood? Nope, hollow-resin cast, aka plastic. All the pretty "carvings" on Ent.centers, plastic...The company is run by a bunch of ego-manics, old-schoolers that are running the company in the ground. Old man Haverty would flip in his grave if he could see what was going on.
