Awful Quality
What happened to Haverty's? We recently purchased the Sedona Leather furniture collection. This is the worst quality stuff we have seen. First of all, when the sofa was delivered the arms were literally falling off the sofa. We contacted Haverty's and they rescheduled a delivery of a replacement. The second sofa was not much better the arms were loose and it was very uncomfortable to sit on. Next they delivered the recliners. The recliner backs are so weak that they will not hold up a person. My son weighs 165 lbs and the recliner will not even hold up this skinny young man. We have a warranty so we contacted Haverty's and they sent out a technician. He immediately saw several issues with all the furniture and took pictures. All of the cushions are sagging and have significant depressions in them. (We are not overweight people). When the technican unzipped the cushions, NONE of them had the down blend filling that was adverstised. All of the pieces of furniture are defective and have to go back AGAIN! The technician stated that he has more complaints on this furniture than any other living room furniture. He registered us for what they call a "reselect". We went to Haverty's to see if we could find anything else that we liked. With a critical eye (this time) we looked the entire store over and have come to the conclusion that Haverty's no longer sales quality furniture. We are currently going through the arduous refund process. Haverty's apparently has sold out to the cheap furniture industry... their quality is along the lines of Babcock, Rooms to Go or any of those rent-to-own places. What happened to Haverty's? They used to sell quality American made brand name furniture. We could not find one piece of furniture that was made in America and that was a brand name anyone would recognize. All of their furniture is made in China, where poor quality is the norm and it clearly shows here.
My recommendation, stay away from Haverty's unless you are looking for over priced, poor-quality furniture. While it is nice that they have a refund or replacement policy, I would recommend stearing clear of them as I am sure they remove this policy once they figure out that people are returning their furniture and taking their business elsewhere.

Employees who steal and company backs them
I went into a Haverty Store here in Richmond, VA and was approached by a slaesman. I advised him that I was just looking, well in doing so I found some items tha I wanted to purchase for my home but i had some concerns because I have minor children and i did not want to pay all this money only to have it fall apart. Well the salesman told me abot the so called protection plan and he sold me on it and I decided to make the purchase. The salesman wanted me to open a store credit account and I told him that I would rather pay cash so he wrote down the extact amount that I needed to pay for the items I wnated including this protection plan. I went to the bank and withdrew the money and came back to the store and paid for the items. Well, I nver recived the items I paid for come to find out the salesman stole my $5ooo and when I complianed to the store they called the police on me because they felt that i was lying because this man had worked for them for 20 years and was one of their top sales people. it wasn't until he stopped coming to work and they received calls from their white customers that they began to see that there was something going on with the this guy. I pressed charges on the employee because the store would do nothing and he was found gulity and sentenced to jail and order to pay all the monies back. Well I turned around and sued Havertys becuase I fell that they were responsible for thier employees actions because he was representing thier company and they should be held laiable. I took them to court and won. I would have been willing to work with havertys if they would have taken a different stance with regard to the actions of their employee but they didn't care anything about the customer, little oh me and a single black mother at that. They even had the nerve to ask where I got the money to purchase furniture from them. Yeah I have told everyone that will listen to me about this store and not to shop there because they only care about how much money they can make and nothing else.

I agree with the premise of your argument. However, in this particular case I believe that the author has a point.
Based, upon the many complaints I have found on other sites regarding Havertys, I believe there is merit to her allegations. Her wish to remain anonymous is understandable. After all, litigation is an expensive proposition, for a single mother. Or, for that matter anyone taking on a large corporation such as Havertys.
In this case, I believe the information the author provides has some value. Personally, I have experienced practices by this particular company that I certainly consider unethical. However, I have since found, through research, the type of "practices" that I experienced are common in the industry.
Frankly, I would have appreciated the type of information provided by the author prior to my purchases from what I had assumed was an ethical company.
Unfortunately (buyer beware) is highly relevant, in my opinion, based upon my experiences, with this particular company.
The author is simply advising the same thing as you and I are both doing; INCOGNITO.
This is an attack on this company's integrity but no specific details are given by this woman as to the date of her lawsuit, name of suit filed, and her name so that this claim can be verified - anyone can say anything but without clear facts I have to say I wonder about her honesty. Please supply objective facts that are public record for other readers to see, if they care to decide for themselves.
Crappy construction/poor cust. srvc
Purchased $15, 000.00 worth of furniture with the gold protection plan. The plan was not worth the paper it was printed on. I demanded a refund and EVENTUALLY received it. There were so many problems with the items I ordered, they had to come get everything and reorder EVERYTHING AGAIN. So even after receiving all new items, (two living rooms suits) it still contiuned to fall apart literally everywhere. From the wood tables popping apart, the finish coming off the tables to fabric ripping out of the cloth sofa to the stitching coming out of the leather theater seating and the area rug literally just pulling apart just from being vaccumed. The expensive couch we purchased was made with no leg in the middle to support any weight so there are phone books underneith to keep the couch from sagging. It has already been fixed one time. The lighting has broke several times in the entertainment center and the customer service SUCKS! If I had to give them a grade, it would be an E! I just recently contacted Haverty's in Bowie for the tech's name and phone number to pay out of pocket to fix my chair and they refuse to even give me his name and number! What kind of sh*@ is that? Since when were cash paying customers turned away? I tried calling Bernhardt for some extra fabric and now it is discontinued. How would Havertys be able to fix my furniture if I still had the GOLD PLAN if the fabric is no longer available? If anyone can help me with how to get some bernhardt fabric I'm open to suggestions!

Fraud
I have a bedroom suite that is rarely used and horribly scratched from casual use. The technician from Haverty's explained that any use of the furniture will result in scratches because of the lacquer finish that the manufacturer uses. Apparently, the finish is fragile and scratches at being touched. What's the point of having furniture if you cannot use it unless you live in a display case? I don't know yet what if anything they will do to replace the damaged furniture. I do know that the Guardsman "insurance" they recommend is a fraud. The process for requesting service is complicated and frustrating and they look for EVERY possible excuse to refuse to perform the services that the customer buys when buying a guardman plan.
This is happending to me now, what was the final outcome? I'm so upset, what a darn disappointment! Please let me know, didn't purchase the Guardsman warranty, so hopefully I'm not too screwed.
No delivery
Six weeks after paying for a sofa, Haverty's calls to set up delivery appointment. After several phone calls and emails instructing me to be home for delivery in a 4 hour time period on Wednesday, I change my plans for the week, drive 316 miles back early from vacation because I need the sofa. On Monday afternoon Havertys calls to say they are changing the delivery date, and not just by a day or 2 but until the following Wednesday! Why? Because they only deliver to my neighborhood (15 miles from the store)on Wednesdays!
My thoughts: If Haverty's is this unreliable and has this much disregard for the time of their customers, how bad will their customer service be if there is a problem with the furniture? Even after spending $299 for added protection. My guess? Don't count on them. I really regret buying from Haverty's.
cheating customers with junk products
I bought two queen mattresses from Havertys and they started badly sagging from day one and by day five the beds were a pile of junk. I never had back pain before, but due to bad sagging of the beds I had back pain with in three days after sleeping on this bed (actually I tried to sleep but could not!). Called the customer care and the quality control guy took the measurements and said the product was defective and the customer care was not at all helpful regarding a refund . Tried to reach their manager 3 times by visiting their store but was not able to meet the manager. All that they provide is a phone number which is never picked up. Finally sent an email to their CEO hoping atleast some sensible poeple or running the comapany.
I would never buy again from this store and sincerely suggest all of you to take your business some where else.
I am in the process of charging back using credit card and then formally sending a complaint with BBB.

Fraudulent
I purchased 3 items from Haverty. I am pleased with 2 of the 3 items. I am not pleased with an upholstered chair. The chair is 2 months old but looks beat. I don;t allow people to sit in it until I talk to Haverty. I called my sales associate and he referred me to his manager or as I might say his "mis-manager". I wrote a letter to the Moss Creek " Mis-manager" and followed up with a phone call. I have not yet received a phone call back. We have just built a home and have plenty of furniture to buy. This is a deal breaker. I will be stopping by...put the coffee on.

Bad product
Brought a leaher recliner couch that is very uncomfortable to sit in. It's extremley deep and the back reclines so far back you have to slouch to sit in it customer. They said nothing was wrong with the couch and would take it back for a relacement of a different type of couch. The couch is less then a month old. The couch could have been brought back to the store for a display. I would never recomend them to anyone. This should not have been a problem, but they really must not care about we customers very much.

You used something for a whole month and you expect them to take it back? Where else can you do that? I can't wear a shirt for 30 days, tell the store it's uncomfortable, and expect them to take it back and sell it, can I? You're rediculous, and clearly didn't spend enough time on the sofa to make an informed decision for yourself.
Terrible product
I purchased a Mitchell 866600 Sofa along with 2 other pieces from Havertys in Ft. Myers, Fl. The fabric and construction seemed to be good quality in the store, but upon delivery it is the worst example of a sofa I have ever seen.
I am totally disgusted with this item. The 3 cushion sofa has a separate spring support system. The cushions are very firm, but the end ones compress into the arms of the sofa and will not return to a decent position when you get up. I have to pull them back up each time someone sits on it.
All 3 cushions compress at the fronts so you are always at an sloping angle as well. The texture of the fabric is the only reason I have not slid onto the floor, but a silkier fabric would allow that to occur.
A repairman was sent out, and said there was nothing he could do except recommend a replacement, which was offered to me by the manager of the Palm Harbor store. I only had 20 days to select a replacement sofa.
The store had absolutely nothing in stock that would match any of my other
decor, and I could not wait for a special ordered sofa to come into the store, so I decided to try and live with this most uncomfortable sofa.
It got even worse, so I placed a piece of plywood under the cushions to see if that would help. The cushions still sink, slope and look terrible.
Havertys does not tell you the manufacturer of some of their items, so I can't go back to them either. Just want to let others know that Havertys quality is not always as it seems.

Terrible customer service
I ordered a dresser and when it arrived one of the drawers was dented. The whole dresser had to be replaced as per your policy. When I scheduled the replacement piece I requested the last possible since my Wife and I work full time jobs. The day before I received a e-mail stating that the delivery would be between 9am and 11:30 am. This does not seem like the last delivery time possible. When I called customer service about this I was told that they could not change the time and I could schedule another day but there was no guarantee that the delivery time would be any later. It was also stated that the truck was already loaded and the furniture would ride around in the truck all day and may get damaged. What kind of comment is that? I also ordered a table before the replacement dresser was delivered so they could be here on the same day. I was told the table was back ordered and they did not know when it would be in or if the manufacture was even making the table anymore. I called another store and I was told by them that they had 2 in stock. When I called my store back they told me that the other store was not reading the computer screen right and there were no table. After I called customer service and they told me that the tables would be in later in the week. I never received a call from my store to let me know this information and wonder if I had never called if I would have received my table or it would still be "back ordered". Finally after my table and dresser was delivered (I had to lose a days pay to stay at home and wait for the furniture since I did not want it to get damaged) the dresser has spots on the drawers where stain is missing. I now have to wait at home on a Saturday and wait for a technician to come and tell me what I can do about it. I am so displeased with Havertys that I will never buy another piece of furniture from them and will never recommend them to friends. The only thing that customer service tells me when I call is "I'm Sorry".

I purchased an expensive bedroom set. Within 1 week of its delivery, one of the jewelry drawers would not open. This was due to a cheap plunger type lock affixed to the back of the unit. Every lock Haverty's sent failed within 10 minutes! The service tech and I discovered that the drawers were installed with faulty drawer glides. Haverty's agreed to replace the glides. I made an appointment 3 weeks in advance for an early service call. I got a call the night before from their automated call service advising that they would show between 1 and 3 pm. When I pushed the buttons on the phone to get a customer service person the call ended with a "we are experiencing a problem with our system and your call cannot be completed." The I was disconnected and that's when the frustration began. I spoke to a CSR after my 4th attempt to call them back. The rep argued with me about the service times and when I asked to speak to a supervisor, she told me that the supervisor was busy and she would call me abck. It is not 26 hours later and I have not heard from them and the service tech failed to show. COME AND GET YOUR FURNITURE BACK!
I work at Havertys in sales. The reason I work there is the exceptional customer service, exceptional delivery system and mostly because 90% of what is shown may be delivered in a week. Furniture is much more delicate than one would think. It is not designed to move around. 13% of all furniture from the factory to the home is found wanting. Havertys struggles, as do all furniture company's, with this hard fact. I will tell you from 4 years experience, they move Heaven and Earth to make things right.
Be advised it is not uncommon for a lot of company's, once they have your money, to not ever answer the phone concerning customer problems- the above was handled in a clumsy manner- but it will be made right.
Your just another victim of a wonderful routing program that they paid 150k for and it does not work. Think anyone would admit to it's failure? Of course not! It's all about egos at Havertys, not the customer. An I'm truely sorry for your purchase of sub-standard Chinese firewood...David C.
Very Dissatisfied
I am Syvalia Satterfield the owmer of Satterfield Phoenix Companies. I have purchased over $132, 000.00 in furniture from your Marrow GA, Columbia DC and Raleigh NC stores. I ordered a table form you Raleigh store [protected] paid $7000.00 cash for my purchase and still have not received my table. Ive spoked to Roger Thomas store manager several times, twice this table have been delivered to my home broken and once delivered to the wrong address. I have always had much respect for your stores and your product but this is not acceptable. I want my table and my money back. this is been going on too long (6 months). I would like the CEO Clarence Smith give me a call at [protected].

Their technician came out to see the furniture and said he couldn't do anything about the crooked skirt, but if I wanted to go through the trouble I could replace the legs myself, and that I would be reimbursed the cost. Haverty Furniture in Ft. Myers is not to be believed. I had a credit balance of over $100 which was verified by one of the sales managers. When I tried to use it at a later date I was told I had none and the sales manager didnt know how to read the information off the computer. I told them I have a invoice with a credit balance on it. They gave me another story about how corporate does that but its not so in my case. Of course, I never received anything from corporate that I no longer had a credit. These people at least at the Ft. Myers store are thieves. Avoid at all costs.

My husband and I bought a leather sofa and recliner a year ago at Havertys. The furniture is made (I found out later) by Leathermart, we paid $1000 for each piece, wanted a nice set now that the kids have gone to college.
The springs under the recliner have been popping off one by one and we cannot use the chair. Of course it is just out of manufacturers warranty so I was given a number for a "Furniture Medic" in our area apparently that will come and look at it and see if they can fix it. If they can get the parts needed from the manufacturer we will only have to pay for the labor for the repair, no idea how much that will be.
My complaint is that for the price we paid at Havertys we expected to get quality furniture which is not the case. I always thought the name stood for quality and felt fortunate I could shop there but after spending that much on a small leather chair and now haveing to pay to get it fixed I don't feel so fortunate. Havertys hasn't really been any help, could have already called a furniture repair company and not waited for the runaround from them. We thought they might want to know what they were selling out of their store under their name but they don't seem to care.

Same thing happened to me. Bought a recliner at Haverty's in Knoxville, TN. We bought the five year extened warranty and recliner
tore up the month after five years expired. Haverty's gave me the number for Furniture medix bu they never returned my call.
I called Leathermart in San Diego, but only got a busy signal all day. What a rip off. This chair cost us $1399 plus tax. Haverty's will not get any more of my business
Financing Scam Artists
I paid for a couch and chair on a zero interest plan for a year. I paid off my bill in installments to Citifinancial who handled the financing for Haverty's and I paid the final bill in the twelth month (I had only 150.00 left to pay). I ask them to cancel my card, instead I got another bill for 174.00 for "finance charges." Outrageous!
These people are scam artists. DO NOT FINANCE WITH HAVERTY'S!

Twelve months interest-free means twelve months, not thirteen. You have to pay it off in the eleventh month, before the twelve month period is over.
toxic chemicals emmiting from product
In good faith agreed to purchase a reclining sofa for the total price of $2139.24 which included their Guardsman Gold Plan guarantee cost of $250. and delivery cost of $100. I paid the required deposit of $534.81.
Before delivery was allowed to take place, the balance of $1604. was required, and I did as demanded. Two days after the loveseat was delivered I called the store from which I purchased the loveseat to complain of a toxic chemical smell emitting from the loveseat that was permeating the house and causing my wife complications to her health.
When I addressed my initial complaint to the sales manager from whom I purchased the loveseat, he immediately indicated that it was most likely a chemical used in the cloth material of the product. I explained my wife's comprimised immune system and the toxic fumes where making her sick. He explained that they would not accept the loveseat return, as it was special order. After repeated calls to him and Haverty's office in Atlanta insisting that I could not accept a dangerous to my wife' shealth product, they agreed to pick up the loveseat but insisted that I would have to suffer a forfeit of $534.81.
My attempts so far to not suffer a loss of this amount of money for a product that apparantly was know by them to emit toxic chemicals has not been successful, as Haverty's refuses to do the honorable thing and refund my complete total price that I paid for a defective, dangerous to a person's health product.

Furniture Finish
Purchased office furniture From Haverty"s (Durbin Collection) had to have the Credenza Top replaced 2 times, each time there was a problem with the finish. It was to the point that the 2nd piece delivered looked like they gave a seven year old a touch up pen to fix the scratches. Sales person called and said that this piece was inspected before it left the showroom...lie. Requested a refund...BEWARE.

Protection Plan. We did not receive a copy of this but in the brochure it is worded that your purchase is
protected for (5) years from date of delivery We also filed the claim with Guardsman as required. Your sales
consultant (Michelle Roberts) in the North Richland Hills store told us that we were protected against anything
with this plan.
we filed the claim and Guardsman tells us this is not covered in the plan. The seams on both sofa and loveseat are fraying and the furniture isn't used frequently. If something can't be done about this I will never purchase
another piece of furniture from Haverty's.

I purchased a leather electric reclining sofa and recliner. I purchased the B/S Guardsman protection and was totally ripped off and cheated. This is the most cheating and stealing racket. They look for every reason to not fulfill your claim after paying your money .I would never buy this lying cheating company's product. And you can't talk to anyone of athourity just the underlings that refuse to honor their agreement. They are thieves.
I find the gold plan to be hard to use. Cost $299. motor works on none of the 5 pc. lariamie sectional and recliner, yet the table lights on same elec. plug works. Where is the reset button on the motor, but who will tell me where it is and how to reset it. . I am getting run around and have only 10 days to get paper work done, yet I can't download it because my name and zip is unknown to them on e-mail, but on the phone I was known. E-mail sent after office closed on Fri. so can't reach anyone until Mon. (3 days). OUC, my elec. co. said must have reset button on motor since table lamps work on 3 different elec. outlets where the 3 different motors are located. No one knows anything. ID # for gold plan I have never seen- told it is in cleaning box, don't think I got a box; and who puts a contract number in a cleaning kit box? I am very unhappy with this gold plan. I am getting run around. Pay for it, get nothing back in return. Will not buy it again, would like refund. LOL LOL. Unhappy customer who paid 3500 dollars .
I think this is really bogus and not useful at all Havertys has quality furniture and great prices for what you get. All of their furniture is Havertys Branded and made exclusively for Havertys, and plus they price match if the furniture you see there is the exact same as somewhere else this proves that all their furniture is Havertys Branded.
