In a hurry to check out of the Mission Bay Resort on 6-15-08, I left several items of clothing hanging in the closet of our room number 630. The next day, I realized I had forgot the clothes in the closet and immediately called the hotel. After more than 17 phone calls and a return trip back to the hotel (from Los Angles) specifically to pick up my items from the hotel, I was told nothing was recovered from the room and they were ultimately not responsible for any property left after check out.

I was able to describe what I left; type of hangers (mine, from home) even the brand name of some items.

The front desk told me all "lost" items are turned into security; I was transferred to security and left a message. After several attempts to talk to a live person in security, I finally reached someone on 6/16/08. Security told me the room we stayed in was cleaned by housekeeping and nothing was turned in as "lost/left behind". However, they told me it was possible that housekeeping could have missed items in the closet but because the room was already occupied with a "do not disturb" on the door no one could get into the room to check the closet for my clothes. I was told by security to wait until the room was unoccupied and they would check the closet.

On 6-17-08, I called the hotel again and talked to someone at the front desk about my items and to see if the room was unoccupied. It was suggested by the front desk operator that I return to the hotel to pick up my belongings. When I arrived at the hotel, no one had turned my things into security. Again, I was told the room was still occupied with a "do not disturb" sign, and they could not check the closet. I was told they would contact me after the room was vacated and investigate with housekeeping. I completed an investigation report and left.

Finally, on June 20 I received a call from security, after the room was vacated and they "investigated" housekeeping, no one had seen or turned in anything from room 630. Security manager, "Tom" told me Hilton Hotel would contact their liability insurance carrier and a someone would call me.

On 6-25-08, I received a call from the hotel's insurance company - the hotel was not responsible for any lost of left property after check out, there was nothing they could do, I was not entitled to any type of reimbursement, settlement, etc.

I am more than frustrated, I believe my items were "found" by housekeeping - and were either misplaced after being turned into security (I was told at one time to return to the hotel to pick up my belongings) or the hotels housekeeping department decided to do a little "keeping"; after all most all the items I left in the closet were new or nearly new designer (Anne Klein, Ann Taylor, etc.) clothes, clean and on hangers - why not...

THis has happenend to me too but over 1000$ worth of games was taken from me at a hilton hotel i staye at for a ffa convention i was attending. it happened almost that exact way your items where "missplaced" i was not allowed to take my luggage to the bus do to time problems with the ffa convention so the teacher told us to leave all our stuff packed and next to the door. i wanted to get the stuff myself but the teacher said not to worry. so i went the whole trip worrying about it and out of almost 30 people that went to the hotel, i was the only"lucky" one who did not get their luggage on the bus. i called the people that loaded up the luggage and they said they had know idea where it was. i called the hotel multiple times and i had to go threw the same dallema you did and i eventually got my suit case back with my clothes and game system but 26games, 2memory cards, a controler, and cd case was missing. i called back and they said they had no record on anything being left in the room or found anything but its a lot of bull and i really wish i could just go back in time so i could just get the luggage myself and i hope someone finds my games and brings them to me or something. i think i hade my name in the cd case. and every cd had my initials (mw) on it...it was in the missouri, lake of the ozarks hilton hotel room 401. and i believe it was in 2006 in may between the 20th and the 25th. if anyone can help me or info of any kind i really need help and i have no clue on here my stuff is or where to start. i know its been about 2 years and i been worrying about it ever sense that day i lost my games. im gonna keep worrying myself cause i could of stopped this from happening if the teacher let me get my own stuff instead of someone else i did not trust fully.

I stayed at the Hilton Long Beach in June 2008, and left the room pretty quickly. I thought I had taken everything from the closet but when I got home, realized that new clothes and shoes were missing. I phoned the hotel and left a message for security. Security said they would check it out and call me back. He called back the same day and said that nothing was found in the room or subsequently turned in to lost and found. I kept looking through my things but still couldn't find the new top or new sandals that I had only worn once. I became really upset and called back to talk with the manager, left a message and have received no call back. I went back to the store to see if I could find another top, no luck and went to several other stores and didn't find anything as nice. It's really frustrating to find something you love and then lose it without even getting to wear it. I have no respect for the hotel now and will never stay there or any other Hilton again. I am quite surprised at their attitude toward the items missing from the room, which could have been taken when the room was cleaned for all I know, or left behind at check out. The maid was in a big hurry to clean the room that day, and the room has two phones in it. Couldn't she have called the desk and the desk called us, since they have our phone number in the computer and we could have returned for the items that very day. I get the feeling that the poeple who work at these hotels at all levels look at the guests as "fair game" and they just go through the motions with us. They expect us to arrive on time, leave on time, and pay on time for the room, for parking our vehicle at their hotel, and tip each time we get a service, but they have no duty to call us if we leave an item in the room. They obviously don't consider it important enough to tell their maid service to report lost items right away, when the first thing they do upon entering a vacated room is look around to assess the level of cleaning required. But even if it's the last thing they do, there still would have been plenty of time to notify the guest who checked out within a timely manner. I certainly would have been happy to have gotten that call and went back by the hotel before we left town that day. How nice for the hotel to have such freedom from liability. They have the right to keep our things if we leave them. I will never look at hotel stay the same, and I will be more careful next time, like taking a list of clothing items, so I know if something is missing before I leave AND after I get home.

I am a former employee of Hilton Garden Inn, Brandon, Fl..Not fired-QUIT.Let me tell you what went on there, and what I saw with my own eyes! The housekeeping Supervisor"Betzi Gonzalez"was the theif! She came in very early, before the maids. She also had her accomplice '"Safura"-bosnian immigrant come in early, through the back door. She would give her accomplice the master key& send her upstairs to steal the tips out of the rooms, before the maids got there. These were business people, staying a week at a time. One man came back for something that was left behind.I had turned it in.He mentioned that he had left me a sixty dollar tip, but of course, I had never found any tip.I continually caught the Housekeeping Mgr.sneaking in and out of rooms, and saw her pocket money more than once!-Even the front desk mgr.was going up into the rooms stealing the tips! He had no business to even leave the desk. She knew that I was talking to the new Mgr.about her, so began getting all of the illegals, and other mexican girls to go in and trash the rooms that I'd cleaned, put glass under the mattress so that I got cut, stole someones camera from their room, -which was on my list to clean, of course.-I finally quit, because they were staying late, and unmaking the beds, ruining rooms I'd cleaned then showing them to the new Mgr.-Kara.-Even though I had a maintenance man check the rooms before I left, they were getting away with it.Even the Chef working with Betzi, was carrying Large packs of meat, and cans of food out the back door to their waiting cars.Betzi had told me that I wasn't allowed to come downstairs, but I was the only maid working on Thanksgiving.-I needed something, so caught them both. The items that are 'actually left behind', are hidden in a large laundry bin, and they actually put their own names on the items, and 'STEAL' them after 30 days.-Absolute 'TRASH" they have working in that place.-I never even sat with them, and refused to associate with people who have no morals. Two of the women that I worked with, would come and tell me what she was planning next.I finally hurt my arm, so just quit. The Management chose to cover it up.The maintenance man stood up for me, because I had him check my rooms before I left. They implied that I was trying to get workers comp., but I had a new job a week later. It was nothing but discrimination the entire time that I worked there, but who would want to be included in a group of trash, like that-?Sincerely, Joyce Marie Wooten

I would like to add that if you have items come up missing, don't hesitate to call the police, or send the police, and then contact their corporate office.

-I'd also like to tell you that -BEING A FORMER EMPLOYEE OF THE HOTEL...the maids aren't allowed out of the building all day.-IT"S THE HOUSEKEEPING SUPERVISOR! Anything found is turned into the sprvsr. They are continually leaving throughout the day! They even ride around in the Hilton busses! That is where your belongings are going, right out the back door-right next to her little office!

I think that most Hotel supervisors are theives, but thats just my oppinion, ..Some of them tell the maids that they aren't allowed to go up to clean the rooms, until say 10:30, so as not to 'disturb' the guests. -What they are actually doing, is making sure that they don't don't go up to clean their assigned rooms, and catch the Supervisors rushing in and out, stealing their tips. Isn't that just shameful? How do they live with themselves!?! This goes on at most hotels, like LaQuinta Inn -Grand Regency blvd., Brandon, Fl.33511, Also Comfort Suites Brandon, Fl.Brandon, Blvd. The Hilton, Brandon...!? what are the odds?

First of all, any Supervisor or anyone else cannot enter a room in a modern hotel with electronic locks, because those locks can be interrogated to find out which keys were used to make entry. The interrogation reoprt is then checked against key records to find out who had posession of the key when the entry was made. Secondly, can you really expect to call a hotel after checking out and tell them you left something behind and since it was not recovered they should just take your word for it and cut you a check? I have seen many cases of people losing things and thinking they can just blame the hotel and get some money out of it. Sorry, it doesn't work that way (and Innkeepers Laws in most states specifically state this). Let's say I stayed at your house and called you a week later and sais I left some cash there. You didn't find any, but I say you should just take my word for it and give me some cash. Are you going to do so? I didn't think so. Face it...the hotel employee is an easy scapegoat when in fact these types of cases are usually the result of the carelessness (or even dishonesty) of the person claiming to have left something behind. No business could stay afloat if it were that easy to get them to give you money. The bottom line is don't be so stupid as to leave valuable items in your room after checking out. You are not going to be paid for them.

Notice, -"RJ" -I am not afraid to use my full name. The managers do not care! The front desk manager does the same thing, the chef stole food! READ all of the comments. People who come there on business, leave at 6am on Th., or Fr.morning to catch planes. They are in a hurry! Things sometimes get left behind, and most everyone traveling is in a hurry. I've NEVER heard of anyone asking for MONEY, just their items back. I personally saw the housekeeping superviser going in rooms repeatedly throughout the day.NO one ever questioned that, because she IS the MANAGEMENT! She can do anything that she wants to do, and send any one to 'check'-? rooms, and also...when she's got a day off, ..one of the maids is elected at random to go and 'CHECK" rooms-? This I saw also. The Hilton Garden in has electronic locks, and she comes and goes as she pleases. There are MASTER KEYS also.Wake up, and pay attention.'MAIDS"are not allowed to leave the building at lunch, so they are not leaving the premises with anyones belongings.-The Supervisor even kept a large gold bracelet in her desk drawer that she ''FOUND'in one of the rooms. She wore it often, and sometimes took it home.I don't know if anyone reported it missing, but she claimed it.

Firstly let me say that this is not disputing the original claim/complaint. This is disputing the obviously malicious comments following. I am currently a houskeeping supervisor for a large hotel chain. I find it disgusting that people on here can even say 'most Hotel supervisors are theives'. Firstly when working in a large hotel, with a large number of housekeepers and rooms, it would not be possible for most supervisors to arrive early then go in the rooms and steal things...the majority of rooms are occupied as most travellers do not check out until at least 10am. Im not saying that this did not happen in your hotel, but I can tell you that you obviously do not work for a reputable brand or company, as if this 'stealing' was in fact happening, im sure someone would have the moral ground to report it (obviously not you, as you are stating it on here, but not to the police or the head of your company, so you are not as morally sound as you make out). At least I know that any of my fellow associates would report it. I just want people who are reading this to understand that yes items do get lost or misplaced by guests, and I personally will do anything in my power to return these items to the owners. I agree that when finding items in the rooms, it is just as easy to contact the guest right away, as they are more likely to still be in the area, rather than waiting for someone to call to report the lost item (which may be days/weeks) and then having to locate the item again, and for the most part have to mail it out. Just be sure to take some of these comments as what they really are...bitteness by disgruntled employee's.

-YOU MAY VERY WELL BE AN HONEST SUPERVISOR, BUT THE ONES AT THE 'HILTON INN' BRANDON, FLORIDA ARE NOT.-I WAS NOT A 'DISGRUNTLED EMPLOYEE'.I CAUGHT THEM IN THE ACT, AND DID REPORT TO HER MANAGER WHAT WAS GOING ON.THERE WERE AT LEAST FOUR PEOPLE INVOLVED, AND TWO OTHER DISHONEST MAIDS, ...SO ALTHOUGH I DID THE RIGHT THING, UNFORTUNATELY THE TRASH KNEW HOW TO STEAL, AND GET AWAY WITH IT.THEY EVEN LOADED UP ON LARGE AMOUNTS OF CANNED GOODS, AND OTHER FOOD ON THANKSGIVING!-PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME, WHY YOU JUMP TO DEFEND DISHONEST PEOPLE?-BECAUSE YOU ARE A SUPERVISOR TOO?-THAT'S RIDICULOUS.SEEMS TO ME THAT YOU'D CHOOSE TO DISASSOCIATE FROM THEM, (AFTER PROCLAIMING YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS), INSTEAD OF GETTING ANGRY AND DEFENDING A BAND OF THIEVES.WHAT DO YOU FIND MALICIOUS ABOUT TELLING THE TRUTH, AND EXPOSING THEM? -YOU WEREN'T THERE, ..WERE YOU?-I KIND OF WONDER.-AS I STATED, IT WAS THE 'HILTON', AND CONTINUALLY OCCUPIED BY BUSINESS MEN & WOMEN, ..BEING IN A 'BUSINESS PARK'...SO THEY WERE OUT AT DAYLIGHT AND HEADING TO THE AIRPORT.THE SUPERVISOR WAS ALWAYS THERE BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE.-AREN'T THEY ALL?-I AGREE THAT SHE SHOULD HAVE CONTACTED THE OWNERS OF THE MYSTERIOUSLY 'FOUND' ITEMS.-INSTEAD, ..SHE WOULD ALWAYS LIE AND SAY THAT NOTHING WAS FOUND.-THEN...PUT THEM ALL IN A HUGE LAUNDRY CART, AND THEY DIVIDED THEM UP AT THE END OF THE MONTH.-I SAW THAT HAPPEN TWICE, -WHICH WAS PRETTY HARD TO STOMACH!-HER, AND ALL THE OTHER PUERTO-RICANS, AND MEXICANS-OF WHICH SEVERAL WERE ILLEGALS WOULD ARGUE OVER WHO WANTED WHAT.-I'D HEAR THEM SAY, -I'M GETTING THIS, OR THAT! -'NAUSEATING!"-AS I SAID, SHE IS LOW-LIFE TRASH.-I'VE WORKED AT SIX HOTELS IN THIS AREA, AND FOUR OF THEM HAD DISHONEST SUPERVISORS, AND/OR MANAGERS.-I QUIT AS SOON AS I FOUND A BETTER JOB, AND HAVE BEEN THERE WELL OVER TWO YEARS.APPARENTLY THEY DON'T SCREEN OR CHECK ANY OF THEIR MANAGEMENT AT THE HILTON, AT LEAST THIS 'PARTICULAR' ONE.MY DAUGHTERS COMPANY USED TO STAY THERE REGULARLY, BUT AFTER I LET THEM KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING TO THEIR BELONGINGS, THEY SWITCHED TO A MUCH MORE DECENT CHAIN.-ONE THAT DOESN'T HIRE WITHOUT A SERIOUS BACKGROUND CHECK.I WOULD ALWAYS WANT TO DO THE RIGHT THING TO PROTECT EVERYONE THAT I MEET FROM HAVING THEIR ITEMS STOLEN.-INTERESTING THAT AS HONEST AS YOU CLAIM TO BE...YOU FIND THAT 'MALICIOUS'. ...INTERESTING PERSPECTIVE. -WHAT COMPANY ARE YOU EMPLOYED WITH-?

I completely agree. My husband and I stayed at the Double tree Hotel in Tampa, FL for our honeymoon, and upon returning home we realized that we have left our video camera in the room. We immediately (within 6 hours of leaving the hotel) contacted the hotel. This led to 5 message on our part and finally one call back with the tone of "this isn't our problem" . We never did get our camera or tape back. All our memories are lost.

I had the same problem occur in April 2010 at the Hampton Inn in Newburgh, NY. I called shortly after I left to notify them that I had left a suit and shirt in the closet - they told me to call back the following day once the cleaners were done to see what had been reported. I did, and they said nothing was found. I explained that I definitely left the suit there, that it even had my name on embroidered on the inside pocket, and I know I left it there. I called again and got the manager, who said she'd look - and she reported that nothign was found.

I'm planning on filing a police report with the local cops.

I was also a housekeeper at a Hilton Garden Inn located in Taylorsville, Indiana. My second day on the job I was being trained by a long time employee. In the 1st room of the day, the guest had a large bottle of prescription pain pills in the bathroom. She picked the bottle up and took a whole handfull of them.At break I told my supervisor who told me that she couldnt do anything about it.I later found out that nothing was done because she was the supervisors best friend/drug dealer and was spliting everything with her.Everytime she went in a guest room she went through EVERYTHING and took money, food, clothes, pills etc...Ive also saw the supervisor smoking pot in the rooms and in the smoking area. And Ive also saw her going into rooms and taking the tips left for the housekeepers. And as for things that are left behind, its mostly a policy of who finds it gets to keep it for most of the housekeepers. There are few of us who turn the things in but the supervisor just keeps what she wants out of it and has a yard sale with the rest of it.Eventually we all got sick of it, including the assistant housekeeping supervisor so the assistant h.k. supervisor tried to go to corporate and let them know about it and they told the supervisor everything that was said which led to her threatening to kill the assistant supervisor at work .Nothing was done to the supervisor though. They demoted and transfered the assistant supervisor that day.Everything that Ive said is true, im not an angry employee.I just want to warn unsuspecting guests.

-Absolutely! That's exactly the way it was at the Hilton Garden Inn, here in Tampa, Fl.-near Mango, Fl.The General Mgr.did not care or want to hear about it.I was treated horribly after I complained. They put big shards of glass under the mattress so that when I made the bed, I sliced my fingers open.I couldn't even get a band aid, and the Housekeeping Supervisor-Betzi Gonzalez never filed a report when anyone were injured-especially when she caused it.I saw the Housekeeping Supervisor-Betzi sneaking in and out of rooms every morning stealing tips also, and she had a Bosnian girl doing it for her, too. Even the guy behind the desk-"STEVE" would get a sudden urge to strip a room-meaning-make an excuse to be in there-when someone had stayed a week, or two.He knew they'd leave a large tip, of course.I rarely received my tips, because they were all a bunch of low life [censor].They are all still there, robbing people blind-I'm sure. Don't stay there, if you come to town!
They're Trash.
