For all you credit card haters out there, I have a good one for you. I signed up for a Home Depot Credit Card run by Citigroup for the promotional $25 off your first purchase. I did not receive the card, or any further communication from them. The first time I heard from them, it was their collections department in a nasty call telling me to pay my bill. I informed Citibank that I had not received my first bill, let alone my card yet. I asked him the address they were sending the card to, and apparently someone put the wrong one in. They even had the return to sender in the system. I gave him my new address and he said he would sent out the bill. Then he informs me that now I have a $29 late fee to pay as well. I asked him how I can pay without getting a bill? OK NOW GET THIS:

He tells me 'Getting your bill is your responsibility'! I asked him if he was kidding me and he said no. Even though they typed in the wrong address, they're going to charge me a late fee for something 'I'm supposed to do' Who do they think they are? I'm supposed to magically know how much to pay, where to send it, etc.?

I asked this, so he said 'well you should have looked at your statement online.' Fair enough, lets get this taken care of right now, I have perfect credit and don't want to ruin it. I log on while still on the phone and try to register to see my account online. Since I never got my card, "What is my account number?"

"I can't give that to you". I am a quiet, shy guy. Lets just say I have never shouted louder at someone in my life. I won't be doing business with Citi anymore in the future.

Citicard - GONE
Circuit City - GONE
Goodyear - GONE
Men's Wearhouse - GONE
MBNA - GONE
Discovercard - GONE
Home Depot - GONE

To all you credit cards out there, your in-store offers may be enticing. But in the end, its just not worth it. Your rude customer service, over the top interest rates, exorbitant late and over limit fees, your idiotic reasoning. I urge all of you NEVER to get another credit card. Cut up the ones you have, don't sign up for any new ones. These people are predators and the way they change their customer agreements (especially interest rates) should be investigated by your states attorney generals. I'm done with them, I hope I've convinced at least one other person to be, also.

I just posted a complaint about there false promo ad. Three hours of painful phone calls later they tell me that the ad for the $100 off your first purchase is really a $100 off your first $1000 purchase. Gee. If only I'd known.

My next call was back to them telling them to cancel the card and stuff it. Unfortunately, you get someone who's job it is to listen to us complain and be upset about things they don't control.

Now I just have to see if they really cancelled the account. Can't wait to see.

Home Depot credit card operations are run by thieves.
I made a $1180 payment on my Home Depot account on line but it inadvertently was sent to a closed account (not my account). Home Depot accepted the money to a closed account and now refuses to return the funds. And won't even transfer funds to the correct account. THIEVES. Do not open a credit card with Home Depot

That is false, if the funds were applied to an incorrect account with your name not as the primary you should contact payment research via mail or fax and include the correct account number. It is the cardholders responsibility to identify the exact account number for payment, but this issue can be resolved. Applying your payment to a wrong persons account does not make CitiBank thieves, it means you made a mistake.

THE Problem is the bank involved. CITI ! And if you switch to Lowes you still get ripped off at 26.99% interest. Better off using a non store credit card.

HOME DEPOT SCAMS YOU BY LURING YOU INTO FALSE CREDIT CARD PROMOTION TO GET $25 OFF FIRST PURCHASE UNDER $999 & $100 OFF IF PURCHASE IS OVER $1000. WHEN SIGNING UP, YOU ALSO GET A $5 OFF VOUCHER SENT IN YOUR EMAIL BUT IF YOU USE THAT YOU WON'T GET YOUR INITIAL PROMOTION OF $25 FOR SIGNING UP THE CREDIT CARD. IT IS VERY BAD BUSINESS TO DUPE PEOPLE BY GETTING YOU TO SIGN UP FOR THEIR CREDIT CARD & AT THE SAME TIME GET A COUPON VOUCHER SENT TO YOUR EMAIL BUT IT DOESN'T TELL YOU THAT USING THIS $5 VOUCHER FOR SIGNING UP TO THEIR WEBSITE THAT YOU APPLY IT TO YOUR FIRST PURCHASE YOU WILL LOSE THE OTHER PROMOTION FOR OPENING A CREDIT CARD. IF I WERE TOLD THIS WHEN I CALLED TO OPEN THIS ACCOUNT EVEN THOUGH I ASKED ALL THE RIGHT QUESTIONS I WAS ONLY TOLD IT WOULD BE CREDIT TO ME ON MY FIRST BILL WHICH IT WASN'T. I WAS LIED TO SO IF ANYONE LIKE ME WHO ONLY OPENED A CREDIT CARD WITH HOME DEPOT BEWARE OF FALSE ADVERTISING AND BEING LIED TO ON THE PHONE BEFORE I OPENED THIS ACCOUNT AND GET CHEATED OUT OF THE FIRST PURCHASE PROMOTION! SO AS I PAY THIS CARD OFF, I WILL NOT BE USING IT AGAIN OR BE A CUSTOMER AT HOME DEPOT. LOWES HAS BETTER DEALS SO WILL BE GOING THERE FOR NOW ON!

If the credit was not issued correctly it can be resolved, however refusal to pay the monthly payments will end up costing $38+ in late fees and additional interest. In a calm and courteous a request can be made to correct the issue through The Home Depot Credit Services.

I used the Home Depot Credit Card Serviced by City Bank promotional card. In February 2019, I paid off my last balance of 450. In March, unbeknown to me, 1.15 showed up in my account and apparently the promotional period ended. For this I was charged an interest of 250, late charge of 27, another interest charge of 3 a total 285. All because they claim, I did not pay 1.50.
If this is not a scam business, I don't know what it. This is coming from one of the most power banking institutions in the world. How can you fight that.

I opened a Home Depot card on 06/11/2019 with the promise of $25.00 off my first purchase of $ 25.00 or more. On 06/21/2019 I charged $ 50.28. I never received my discount..Call after call went nowhere..Finally they denied my dispute with no explanation.. It is now 07/30/2019..SCAM ! I will pay this bill and have cut my card up.

I also have a problem with Home Depot credit card. I brought to Home Depot store #6325 at Delray Beach FL the check #256 with amount of $800.00. This money didn't get to my credit card account. Someone keeps $800.00 for four month already, and Home Depot credit card service doesn't work to look for where this money is now and why this money didn't get to my account. TD has full information about this check:

payment amount -$800.00, payment date-7/17/2020, electronic check #256,
Home Depot store #6325
trace #[protected], company ID #[protected], ACH transaction processed though PNC bank

I am on my 3rd call to Home depot credit card customer service tonight.

the first on was over an hour, after a long wait the rep was correcting the problem never came back, after an an hour on hold the call disconnected,

2nd call same issue after reaching a rep, 45 min hold no contact back after being hold, Third call same issue. still on hold 17 minutes.

it took out a credit card in Jan to have 0 % interest for 6 months, first bill shows $61.96 interest eventho I paid more than the minimum. I was told the purchases were submitted incorrectly. the first said she would re bill
it and credit my interest.

I have spent over $10, 000 at Home depot this last year and am in the process of remodeling my kitchen.

I am considering cancelling my card, paying the full amount and never purchasing anything from Home depot again

my email is merdes@email.com, if Home Depot would like to resolve this issue.

I will also be contacting the attorney general for consumer complaints

I experienced the same thing. I'm an excellent customer who pays my bills on time every time and have never been late. I was told it was a systematic reduction because I didn’t used my credit line of card for past 6 months, People just need to stay away from store cards if this is the way you're rewarded. I feel like the Federal Government needs to investigate these practices and determine if there is a pattern associated with the practice. CitiBank said it was a joint HomeDepot/Citibank decision. If this is the case then its time to reconsider shopping at Home Depot. I feel like the representatives at Citibank aren;t telling the truth. The representatives seem to tell you anything to get you off the phone and simply don't care.

Home Depot and Citibank are a joke. Quit going to Home Depot years ago because they dropped my credit line from 15000 to 5000 without telling me. Went to charge some Items and they said I had no credit. I paid them $700 In cash at the register tossed my card at them and then paid off the account the next day. DONE

I had a similar experience. Home Depot(Citibank) sent me a notice that I have to use my card, or it will be cancelled. I have a $5, 000 credit limit. I charged 71.00 on it, I wanted to pay it at the register, but for some reason I could not. Never received the first statement, so sent in payment on Aug. 24th. Apparently the payment was 12 days late. They charged me $29.00 late charge. I explained to them I did not receive the first bill, and just paid what I charged, not knowing when exactly it was due. They said the late charge is actually $62.00 because another late charge and min. $2.00 finance charge. They said they would waive one charge, but I would have to pay $29.00 late charge and a $2.00 finance charge for a $71.00 charge I paid in full 42 days after. They were not understanding or flexible about much else. They did not seem to care much about having me as a customer or not.

It is close to impossible to access the part of their website to get to your credit card and make a payment. It forces you to create a user name but I can't find a way to log in with that it requires my email. It seems that Citi is making it difficult to access so they can charge late fees. The website is set up in such a confusing way that I am not able to find the purchase that I made after registering the new card that I got.

Every time I tell myself never to get another card I get sucked into the stupid $25 savings... it is NOT WORTH IT.

BAIT & SWITCH - I think the complication of the website links and multiple cards is completely intentional and they are making a lot of money by trapping people into this.

Thank you! I had this problem as well! The online is fubar and no one can help me fix it so I can access the online account to pay. Now, they quit taking my checks (but no one can tell me did I bounce a check or what is the issue?). And on top of that, the Kitchen Remodel I was promised took 9.5 months to install but I was quoted 3 months to install. I am now forced to do telephone payments, which charge me 3.47 for the service! Or mail it back, risk it being late etc etc. NEVER do biz. with them. Citi does NOT care. I have Care Credit (which I believe is also managed by Citi) and PayPal. Have never had any issues with THEM getting my payments done. Care and PayPal do it over the web with no issues. They even send you text msg to pay when the payment is due. And you can log in as a 'guest' for payments. None of the BS of the web login, transferring to the payment service Citi makes you dance through. And as far as the checks go, what IS the policy? Why AM I being denied method of payment? What's WRONG with my data that you are accessing? Do I have a mistaken Identity theft out there? Or is a store person messing with me? Not sure, don't care, but NEVER shopping with them again. Paying it off, closing account and filing with the Store Manager and Corpo Rats as to why I will never shop with them again.

I also applied for a Home Depot because of that $25 discount. Big mistake! After I paid off the first purchase and didn’t use it for a while, got a notice asking if I made a purchase of $400+. Said no and login to check my account, there were already two $90+ charges in my account. Called in to report fraud and they closed the card and issued another card. Had to dispute the charges in my account. Just one day after the new card arrived (it is already pre-activated to use, they don’t let you activate the card yourself), there is a $603 charges again. I had to call again to report fraud and asked if I can close the account. They won’t allow me to close my account but said will issue a new card. The next day, I bet they haven’t even have time to send out the new card, my new card was being charged again ! Talked to them and they finally agreed to close my acct. I’m still waiting for the letter confirmation now…
What a hassle! Friends think it’s an inside job . I’m afraid to shop at Home Depot now!

It gets worse. I live on SSI and due to recent skyrocket inflation weve had to make adjustments to my credit payments. Never missed one with Home Depot. well because of score they readjust their credit line and now im overdrawn. And dropped my 12 months no interest. Wish I’d read this before I opened a card. It is a complete scam. Never got my credit as promised, called twice and got different stories. Paid balance in full but Citibank would not remove late fees and interest on their own late fee so reporting me to credit bureau. Account closed but what a waste of time, energy and now a hit to my credit score. If I’d known this was a Citibank card would NEVER considered opening it.

I just had an issue with a Home Depot credit card and I googled it to see if anybody else had these issues. I came across this… So thank you for posting. I paid a cash payment on the second day of the month and it still hadn’t processed by the 11th. Although I got charged interest which was only $7.67 however I don’t think I would’ve got that if they would process my payment when they were supposed to. In addition it was a cash payment not a debit card and I did it in the store. Nobody could really explain to me why it was put on hold.

OMG! Not only does Citibank bank charge 29% interest compounded daily, they make it impossible to make an online payment of any kind and the same for their telephone customer service.

After doing battle with them monthly to make payments, I got tired of spending 45 minutes or more trying to be a customer. I fully regret ever doing business with them. I paid my account off in full today and closed the account.

I will never do business with Citibank ever again. They are too expensive, too rude and need to go out of business period!

Ha! Came on here to "file" my own complaint. First. The terms and conditions do not say "first purchase." Says "purchase within 30 days of approval", There first lie! I had a person tell me that it doesn't matter because their "policy is the first purchase." They are terrible. The CS company they use are soulless zombies! I was hopefull because the person who answered spoke Americanized english as well as anyone living in the United States. I didn't here the usual background chatter of the India based sweatshop call centers. Didn't take long till I regretted my initial hope. I think I would have gotten further with "My name is Bob"!

I went to Home Depot in Trussville ,AL after calling to see if they would price match a leaf blower I found for 70 bucks less and was told to printout info and bring in I brought info in along with list of other stores who were cheaper and was told they can't match other lawn equipment stores as they may be used or refurbished, that it would need to a big retailer in the area.I sorry but Lowes does not sell that brand...neither does JC Penny or Belk sell leaf blowers Have been a customer for years but no more over a measly amount. They don't price match anything and manager was rude didn't care. I told them cancel my credit account and good riddance. No wonder there's hardly anyone in the store. I don't look for it to go out of business, but they've lost mine and hopefully others I tell. Went to Lowes and came out cheaper in the long run and get a discount with A Lowes card, you get nothing with a HD card Home Depot Sucks

BEWARE HOME DEPOT PREDATORY CREDIT PROGRAM!

I was shown exactly the same discourteous and crooked treatment. Customer service at Home Depot gets a Z grade for ZILCH! N for NADA! THey dpon't desedrve a zero they deserve a triple digit negative number

I took the bait at the MClain/ Patrick Street location in Frederick, MD.

I never received the card, I never received a single billing statement...

I never received ANY communication at all!

Repeated phone calls and letters to management were summarily ignored.

Now I'm being hounded by a credit collection agency who e3xpect me to pay over four hundred dollars for a Gorilla step stool and a shovel. Big BOGUS vendor of overpriced cheesy Chinese garbage.

Never get a home depot credit card. I have one that I used 2x. First time for a home remodel and things went well using the card and paying off the project. Then - I moved. And I started a new project which I put on my Home Depot card (Kitchen Remodel). Part of the terms is NO INTEREST on the amount for 2 years and if you pay off before then, definitely no interest. Well... I started paying by check in store, as my online access was fubar and no one could help me right the ship to regain web access to my account. I discovered they do charge interest on 'late' payments (illegal). But I put up with it for the ability to pay in store quickly on odd hours and days since I work. And I know when I do in store payments they go through right away. Thus, payments made by check. Last payment this month, they stopped taking my checks. Hence I could not pay at the store as I usually do. I was left short on payment as I could only give the cash on me and make a partial payment. I did not want to use the phone payment as that charges 3.47 for each transaction! Today I contacted Citi and paid directly to them with no charge. I asked WHY were my checks being denied? Well, no answer. No one could tell me. Did I bounce a check? Is there an issue with my information? I just do not know. And I cannot find out either. So - I'm paying off the HD account in full 9K worth, and I'm NEVER going to buy anything with them again. (Besides which they Kitchen Remodel was promised in 3 months took 9.5 months to get installed!) They have lost me as a Customer to Lowe's. I also will be dropping Citi as they service the credit card for Home Depot and were useless at helping me figure out why I was cut off from using checks. Save your self aggravation and go else where. It isn't worth haggling with these jerks. Answers should be EASY to get not impossible for the customer to find. Treat the customer right, they'll come back. Abuse them, and they have options they can exercise, as in GOOD BYE.

I opened a new account and purchased over $400 form Home Depot. I paid the bill in full but I did not receive the $50 promotion credit they promised. I sent many emails and called them. They promised to issue the $50 credit but so far (3-4 months after the opened the account) they did not issue any credit. This is just a scam to attract new customers to open new accounts. Do not purchase using your HD credit card. Use your own favorite card. Home Depot should step in and stop dealing with such scammers.

I hate Home Depot/citi Bank credit card. I bought a stove from them a year ago and it was on an 18 month interest free payment plan, but when I received my first statement it was for only 12 months interest free. I called and had them change it and I set up my payments online for the monthly amount due for exactly 17 months so I would not go over the time period. After I set it up it was all working fine until last month when something changed in their system. I found I could no longer log on to my account and so I called to find out what happened. The operator could not help me and fiddle and raffles around with my sign in name and password for almost 30 mins until I said I had had enough and wanted to close my account. She just said “okay” and closed the account and hung up. Now I have no idea how to log on to my count and am locked out. I have no idea if my payments are going through and if they will post on time. I have never been so frustrated in all my life and will NEVER shop HD again as long as I live. I am done!

Citibank to refund $700 million to credit card customers for unfair and deceptive practices

By Michael Salemi – JUL 21, 2015

SHARE & PRINT

Today we’re ordering Citibank, N.A. and some of its subsidiaries to refund approximately $700 million to customers for unfair and deceptive credit card practices. This includes unfairly billing consumers for credit card add-on products, deceptively marketing those products, and deceptive collection practices. Citibank has agreed to pay about $700 million in refunds on about 8.8 million accounts.

You should contact the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau against Home Depot and Citibank. My problem with Citibank was not receiving credit on my Promotional balances after high ticket merchandize was refused for delivery. Instead of removing promotional balance money they wait for 12, 18 or 24 months to charge you again. Their philosophy is credit once and charge twice. Unless you keep accurate records you are in deep trouble. United we stand by allowing the CFPB to start another class action suit and protect our rights. I had to file over 10 disputes with Home Depot credit card. I'm still trying to get these disputes resolved. Lucky for me, I have all my paperwork in order. Buyer Be Ware!

Their IT system is terrible! I was transferred to MANY different operators and had to repeat all of my information EVERY time. Their online system is horrible! I had trouble just creating an account to PAY MY BILL and their operators could not even help with that. The interest rate is ridiculous and this type of account is simply NOT worth it. Steer clear of this!

On top of that, they use an Indian call center and I could not understand HALF of the 6 operators I spoke with. (make that 7 and counting!)
