On December 21, 2024 my husband, my disabled son who is confined to a wheelchair and myself were in the Summerland Home Hardware. In an attempt to get around the store my son cut his left hand in two spots breaking his skin and of course causing him to bleed. This all happened because of congested shelves my son was attempting to get through the store. Not an accessible store.

I approached staff requesting disinfectant and a band aid, I might as well have asked them to give me the moon and the stars in the sky. I have never been so disappointed in other human beings. The person who said they were the manager on duty told us the first aid kit was empty because the cashiers used them leaving it empty. They eventually brought me a loss q tip and polysporin which is not a disinfectant. Apparently there isn't a health and safety person on duty. According to the several staff I spoke to, the ambulance is only 2 blocks away in case of an emergency. Ie) heart attack, if a shelf collapses on somebody there are many ways a customer or employee could be injured. The disrespectful attitude towards my sons injury was beyond belief. One staff said, "Welcome to the new world, that just isn't done any more." I wonder how the insurance company would feel about the lack of health and safety training. Or what Workers Compensation would think of the lack of health and safety in this location.

We went to another store and purchased a disinfectant and took care of the situation ourselves.
I do not agree to Terms of Use or to Privacy Policy just because you make people agree to this statement to continue with their complaint it doesn't mean it is legal.

Desired outcome: Have a realistic amount of room between shelving. Make your stores accessible for everyone. Train staff to have a health and safety person on duty with proper and necessary medical equipment.
