Left a stain on my ceiling, blamed me for the issue
Left a stain on my ceiling, blamed me for the issue. Claimed I had a poorly-installed system once I had enough facts to prove they'd done it; unfortunately, in their year and a half of servicing my home they never once mentioned this. Once, a tech told my wife we might need to add more insulation to our attic in the future. Now I have a system that's in need of an estimate to repair to get to the level that it stops staining my ceiling, something which never happened until their tech left my house yesterday. All I wanted to do was point out a stain and get someone else to look at my house, but the management played games and tricks to deflect all blame on to the customer.Very disappointing after not having any issues 'til this week.

Hopkins Air Conditioning did a fantastic job with rebalancing my residential AC system
Hopkins Air Conditioning did a fantastic job with rebalancing my residential AC system. I live in a 2 year old house. Some rooms furtherest away from the AC unit where much hotter than the ones close by. I consulted Hopkins after I gave up on the company that installed the unit initially and rejected several other quotes that were would not provide guarantee to resolve the issue. I was interested in a second AC unit since I also wanted to air condition an additional enclosed former garage. But with their sophisticated Air diagnostic equipment Hopkins diagnosed that the duct system was incorrectly installed. This resulted in an inadequate air-supply but more important insufficient air return. The AC compressor was essentially suffocating. Not only resulted this in hot spots in the house but also excessive condensation inside the unit. Over time this would have developed in mold. According to their diagnostic report a second unit was not necessary. In contrary, the existing unit should also be able to cool the additional space. This saved me a lot of money. They were able to re-duct some portions of the system with the correct duct diameters and installed half a dozen dampers. A second visit free of charge was necessary to balance the system very efficiently. In addition the unit runs quieter. Their crews were upmost professional, punctual and courteous.

Had signed up with Hopkins Air Conditioning to do maintenance every 6 months
Had signed up with Hopkins Air Conditioning to do maintenance every 6 months. Their program debited my credit card for the 2 years I was with them.
The last time in April they came to do the 6 month maintenance. After he left, the one unit downstairs was no longer working. Same technician came and made it work. A week later my engineer neighbor noticed that there was water pouring out from the emergency holes under the eaves. I called and asked not to send me the same technician. A new one came and again had to do the maintenance because the one done 2-3 wks before was not done right. He also replaced the two switches that were faulty and I had been told before they needed to be replaced. He also told me that one of the trays was full of water which should not have happened considering the recent maintenance.
He supposedly had to flush the system, vacuum, etc. He also reiterated that the blue lights were burnt and should be replaced. Also explained a new system which he recommended that was more effective than the 2 blue lights. When he quoted me $3,000 I told him that I would not spend that. I then got a quote from Hopkins Manager Chuck for the blue lights with a 30% discount.
In speaking with the last technician he told me that the company had different levels of technician. The one originally was "maintenance" and since they get less money they are the ones sent out for maintenance. This second one, Luis, told me that he was an engineer and sent out when problems. He, however, was being switched to sales. I now understood why he was trying to switch me from 2 bulbs installed for $278 to the carbon system for $3,000.
I gave Luis my card that has my email, address, and phone numbers so he could email me the quote for the expensive system in the event that I would change my mind.
A day later I received an email from Hopkins cancelling my monthly maintenance agreement. When I emailed back not understanding why, Chuck emailed me that in speaking with Luis, he had told Chuck that I had given him my card so that I could use him directly and bypass Hopkins.
I responded to Chuck that there are two sides to every story and that he needed to find out from what actually transpired. Got no answer.
Meantime my May maintenance was charged to my card on May 9th. I went out by my A/C units and saw that there was a big hose left alongside them. I emailed Chuck who had Luis call me and said it was not Hopkins' hose. I also informed him that the nozzle of my hose on my reel that is always in front of my house was missing. Luis said that he did not remove the nozzle either.
Chuck sided with Luis and said that the hose was not Hopkins'. It is an industrial big hose, not mine nor anyone else's and appeared after Luis left. Chuck agreed to refund me $10 for the nozzle and to discard the hose as it was not Hopkins'. A check for $10 arrived which I have not cashed because when I went to get rid of the hose, I found the nozzle on the side of the house buried in the grass. It must have walked there.
I sent Hopkins an email telling them that the nozzle appeared and that I would be returning the check but that I would need a refund for the $31.50 for the May maintenance they charged my card. Before the $10 check arrived I answered Hopkins after they suggested they would send me another check for the difference of the maintenance charged.
I have the uncashed check for $10 but have not received the difference in another check.
I have never dealt with a vendor that after doing the poor job, offends a customer by believing what an employee fabricates.
If there is a minus star on the rating, that is what I would give them. It is supposed to be in business for 30 years and family-owned. The owners should be made aware of this mistreatment and poor service. Interestingly, Hopkins Air Conditioning just sent me a request to review them based on the service they provided. Obviously, nobody made the owner aware of what happened.
Aside from not recommending them, I want the refund for the May maintenance service shown on my credit card or sent in the form of a check. If they send the difference, I will cash the $10 check; if they send the full amount, I will return the $10 check to them.
Good riddance.!
