American sushi has seen significant alterations to cater to the Western palate. For example, ingredients like cream cheese, which would be unusual in Japan, have been incorporated into sushi rolls in the United States. These adaptations have made sushi more accessible and popular in the West, despite being quite different from traditional Japanese sushi.
Sadly I'm forever traumatized from sushi, because the first time I tried it was when my sister bet me 100 dollars I wouldn't eat this weird prepackaged sushi from sam's club. Don't eat weird prepackaged sushi from sam's club.
As an American I also believe that people who like cream cheese in their sushi should probably be left out at sea.
Fun fact: the California roll originated in Canada
I'm from the west and have never heard of cream cheese on sushi, and would probably have the same "float that freak away on a raft" reaction.
I'm an American and have literally never heard of people eating sushi with cream cheese. What the hell is wrong with you people?
Cream cheese? We'd put you on a raft in Australia also (:
Cheese and fish don't mix.
Love,
the Mediterraneans
My foreign exchange friends from Japan LOVED cream cheese in sushi and said theyd start doing it at home even after they get back. I studied there, and Sushiro(a conveyer belt sushi chain) was putting melty cheese over salmon and stuff too. The future is now
They actually have American style sushi places in Japan now.
EXCUSE ME CHEESE ON SUSHI?
That last line really hit home
I have never heard of cream cheese on sushi, what the actual america, I'm disappointed in us.
If I remember correctly, when western travelers first came over to Japan, the style of sushi was still just a slice of fish on a rice ball. But, having to actually look at the raw fish grossed out the Westerners, and this eventually lead to the roll-style sushi to make it more appealing. Of course, I only heard this on some "How It's Made" show a few years back, so it could be wrong
California rolls are the best and you can’t change my mind
Am in Japan right now. Can confirm different Sushi.
