Of course, these goals aren’t the end-all be-all. It is often the case that happiness comes from the pursuit of getting things done or towards a goal and not just the end result. It's about the journey, the learning, the self-improvement, and the little wins along the way. When a person starts paying attention and values such aspects of his life, it can generate happiness.
