In February/March , JS Basements did work in my basement. They removed the old slab and prepared the area for a new one. They also replaced the plumbing under the slab and installed a backwater valve. Additionally, they installed an interior water management system on all walls, braced two walls, poured a new slab, and installed a utility sink. They even moved and reattached items like the furnace and water heater. However, in the second week of August, I noticed water on the floor and a mark from a previous leak. I called *** without knowing that the poor installation in February and March caused the leak. The plumber from *** noticed that the new 4" pipe coming out of the cement was not level vertically or with the copper stack. This resulted in a poor connection and caused the leak. The plumber tried to fix it by adjusting the zip coupling but warned me that it might happen again. He said it should have been installed level and suggested replacing a length of the copper stack with abs to fix the off-level issue near the bottom. He also noticed that another 4" pipe nearby was leaning and we were unsure of its purpose. The cost of the visit was $109.89. Afterward, I emailed *** with pictures and the plumber's comments, asking about the second pipe and addressing my concerns about the poor installation. However, I haven't received a response yet. On August 30th, a different plumber from *** came to review the plumbing and gave an estimate to correct the installation. He found poor quality in the installation of the abs connecting to the copper stack and suggested removing most of the copper and replacing it with abs to fix the off-level connection. The estimate for this work is $1,492.38 + taxes. He also noted that the sump pump is discharging into the main and should discharge outside. Additionally, the water line to the hot water heater is at risk of disconnecting and flooding the basement. I have already had this work done by another plumber due to the immediate risk. The utility sink was installed incorrectly and should have been piped to the nearby vent pipe. The plumber also mentioned that the backwater valve is not technically "legal" and doesn't vent the city sewer system properly. On August 31st, *** performed a diagnosis and fixed the water lines. He agreed that the issues with the sink vent, water lines, and off-level stack were due to poor execution by the previous installer. He also noted that the stack issue was causing stress on the mechanical joint. Overall, I am disappointed that JS Basements did not oversee the work properly. Clients rely on the company they hire to ensure quality work from contractors. It is reasonable to expect professional discretion and pride from a plumber, but it seems that the plumbing work on my job was not up to par. One issue even posed a significant risk of damage to my basement.
