LC Van Rental 15 seater minibus hire - unable to refund after cancelling themselves just night before

I booked to hire a minibus with the LC Van Rental for 14-21 Aug 18, delivery and collection to my home address. They confirmed the collection time 0700hrs on 14 Aug 18. I received a call and an email in the evening of 13 Aug 18 stating that they cannot provide a minibus and I had to arrange myself for alternatives.

When I heard the news, it was a total shock as there was no way that I could arrange an alternative during out of office hours until 0900hrs next morning 14 Aug 18 (point to note I was planning to travel Scotland from Kent at 0800hrs). I had emailed back stating there is no way I could arrange alternatives nor could cancel the hotel bookings for six nights for 11 members of my family.

I complained immediately to the representative of that hire company in the evening of 13 Aug and morning of 14 Aug but failed to provide alternative transport and the matter was not resolved to my satisfaction.

It was an express term of the contract between us that I would be provided with a 15 seater minibus on 14 - 21 August, delivered to my home address at the rental cost of £589 with a refundable deposit of £650. With that in mind I had paid immediately with total amount of £1239 on same day (25 Jul 18).

Their failure to provide any car constitutes a breach of that contract. This caused considerable disappointment and inconvenience and I had to find an alternative minibus, dialling so many companies, online research and so many emails; spending my whole day in a panic and overstretched. I had to take my family to York on that day as I had booked a hotel and to cancel it would cost me a fortune.

In their, email dated 13 Aug 18 stated that the amount of £1239 has been credited to my bank account but I still have not received yet.

I am entitled to compensation for the consequences of your breach of contract. As I experienced significant trauma, hassle, panic and had to drive for 5 hrs to reach York on the same day with the exhausted body. I look to you to pay me £1584.92 in compensation, calculated on the basis of my additional hiring costs £1250 + £923.92 = £2173.92 - LCV Rental £589 = £1584.92 (invoices can be provided upon request).

I have sent 11 emails so far and complaint letter but they have not satisfied me and returned my money back.

LC Van Rental Failed money return

Hired 17 seater minivan for funeral paid £699 including deposit. On the day of the funeral the called and cancelled, stating supplier problems. Offered full refund and a "goodwill payment" towards another vehicle which we had to source within 2 hours. After a month of phone calls and emails we finally received our initial payment back of £699. However to date some weeks later still waiting for the extra payment of £175 they promised they would pay due to their failings. They keep saying the money has been processed through bacs but I know I will never see this money again. However what they don't know is I have an amazing team of investigators at my disposal who have now made it their mission to track down and bring to task these bunch of charlatans. Please please please stay well clear.
This is an update to my review dated 20th november. With regards to this company and their continuous failed attempts to pay me half the difference I had to pay to hire another minibus 2 hours before my uncles funeral back in october, I have today received an email from adam stating that the payment has been withdrawn because they are not in a position to pay it. So anyone waiting for a so called ‘goodwill payment ‘ you will never get it.

LC Van Rental crooks! refund and promised price difference not returned

Our small church charity booked a 15-seater minibus for Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th November, to be delivered and collected from our premises. I paid £779.00 by BACS up front for the hire cost and refundable deposit.

On the morning of the hire, I had an email and a phone call apologising profusely because the previous hirers had not returned the van - it was stuck in the South of France! They said they were refunding me the monies paid immediately and also said that if I booked through another company, they would also pay us the difference. I was simply to send them the booking confirmation showing the price. More apologies about the previous hirers but then alarm bells range because then I was told that they had missed the ferry. Well either the van was in the south of France or it was in northwest France at the docks. Couldn't be both!

The last minute alternative booking was only available 2nd to 5th as they weren't open on Sundays. The price difference was quite significant. I sent LC Van Rental the receipt from the other company and they agreed that they would pay the money.

Since then, despite dozens of calls and emails and promises, al the money we have had back is £50. The people who are in touch are Adam and Michael. They apologise profusely and say they will chase up the payment, or that the payment has cleared and to check our bank account on this date and that time.

It's all lies. They have stolen from a small church charity. I couldn't believe it. Having read this site, now I can.

LC Van Rental minibus van hire cancelled but not refunded

£915 including £550 deposit paid for minibus hire. They cancelled day before it was due to be delivered as previous client had put the wrong fuel in the tank. Phone calls and emails over two months and followed by a written complaint addressed to their published address has been returned unopened to sender. Ive raised it with BBC Watchdog. Not sure what else to do. Can you help?

LC Van Rental money not returned

On 21st september I paid the amount of £770 to book a 7.5t truck to move house in December however i had to cancel the truck the day after booking due to unforseen circumstances...
I am now 2 months in waiting for my money back!
Every week i call up to get told there sending the money and then get told to wait 5 working days for it to clear, after that Micheal the person I'm talking to tells me theres been an issue and they'll resend it.
Now stuck in this loop with of poor excuses...
Any help appreciated thank you

Michael at LC Van Rental is also the person who continually gives us excuses about why there are delays in paying the money owed to us. I have evidence in the form of a message left on the answer machine (in which he said the money had already been transferred back into our bank account) and many emails, in which he promises to set up a standing order and apologises the delays, which he says are caused by him being off sick or because the system is complicated to set up. We have received odd amounts from 'Francis SC' and the most recent from a series of numbers. I have reported the company for fraudulent practice to several consumer outlets and keep on hassling Michael via telephone and emails. I am astonished that this company - which I gather goes under several different names - is still operating. I have described our experience in full an earlier message.

LC Van Rental fraudulent practice

On 9th August, less than 24 hours before we were due to travel to France for a family holiday, LC Van Rental cancelled the 12 seater minibus we had hired from them via a message left on the answer machine (which we have retained as evidence). The excuse given was that the previous customer had put the wrong fuel in and no other vehicle was available. We were told that the money we paid (£979 + £500 deposit) had already been refunded to our bank account and the company agreed to pay the additional costs incurred in motorway / ferry charges and petrol because we now had to take two cars to France (our own plus a hired car) instead of one. However, on our return from holiday we discovered that the company had lied about having already transferred money into our bank account, and we have had been involved in a constant battle for the past four months to get our money refunded. Many excuses have been given and promises made during this time, but whilst small amounts have been transferred intermittently (usually following complaining emails and telephone calls made by us) £910 remains outstanding.
We have since read reviews of LC Van Rental (an organisation that also operates under different names) on the various internet sites and discovered that our experience has been precisely replicated by many customers. They describe having been let down at the last minute with excuses of mechanical failure and the wrong fuel being put in, and are subsequently given promises of repayment that are not kept.
There are three elements to this situation that we feel make this company's practice fraudulent: 1) they wilfully defraud on contracts and, we believe, employ unscrupulous tactics to ensure that they are not held to account. Cancelling vehicles at the last moment, promising refunds and paying small amounts over a long period of time is likely to be a strategy designed to deter customers from getting their banks to intervene in the first instance, or taking their case to the small claims court at a later stage; 2) the evidence from a number of people would suggest that they engage in persistent lies to customers and 3) their method of working causes untold financial / emotional stress on customers, who have to find alternative vehicles at very short notice and then get involved in protracted fights to get their money refunded, often without success.
Whilst we want to have all our money refunded, we are also keen to expose the practice of this company in order to protect others in future.

i have a situation with these con men £1199 owing since August, constant stream of lies on the phone and via email, their address is simply a postal delivery service, i am in contact with CAB at the moment to see how to proceed

We are still trying to get LC Van Rental to pay the money owed to us from a minibus they cancelled at the last minute in August, 2018 (lying about the previous client having put the wrong petrol in). Promises are given about repayment, lies are told (including that they would set up a standing order) and small amounts are paid infrequently, which I think is a tactic they use to stop the customer going to the small claims court. Our contact - Michael - was 'phoning us regularly to assure us of their honesty but he has now given up since it's clear we don't believe him. I have reported the company to BBC Watchdog, Rogue Traders and Trading Standards in the hope that the company will be shut down, so I'll be very interested to know how others get on.

LC Van Rental non return of monies

Booked a17 seater coach to take a disabled badminton team to Scotland, paid £1190, on the morning of delivery they rang and said the coach was unavailable due previous hirer filling it with petrol and not diesel.Managed to secure another coach but have not had any money refunded despite the bank trying. Am now taking this to the Financial Ombudsman Service as we used our debit card which has some protection under the Chargeback Scheme.

LC Van Rental mini bus hire

Close van rental took our booking for a 16 seater minibus in August - and we paid £878 for the return journey. They called the day before we were due to travel to cancel the bus. They did the same the following week resulting in us having to pay over £300 more in taxis. I spent 4 weeks trying to get my money back and eventually received this back. They promised to pay the additional money which the taxis had cost also but 10 weeks later I am still over £300 out of pocket and they are now refusing to take my calls or answer my emails. I believe my consumer rights mean that I should not be out of pocket due to their failure in service

LC Van Rental unprofessional service, and no refund of agreed charges

we booked a ford van for our family tour, for 10 days, 30 July to 9th Aug 2018 from paid the money by bank transfer (£1495). The vehicle was to be delivered to us on Monday 30th July at 9 am

we were called at 8am that day that they wont be able to deliver the vehicle as someone had fuelled it with petrol over the weekend rather than diesel and it wont be available for at least 24 hours. this was literally about an hour before we were supposed to begin our holiday. this almost ruined our holiday with all our family visiting us from abroad.

we were suddenly left with trying to find an alternative way of going on holidays with all our bookings made and paid for .

Their representative Lee told us that they will refund the extra we had to pay to get another vehicle from elsewhere and offer a goodwill gesture payment. Except for refund of original money that we had to chase repeatedly, nothing else has been paid as promised for 6 weeks now.

We have chased this repeatedly and got very rude and unprofessional people on phone, just shouting at you, using threatening language with no deadline as to when they will resolve and keep passing from pillar to post, now the new excuse being that their MD has just returned from holidays and will take his time to go through! They don't even have a courtesy to apologise for almost ruining our holiday and putting us through such stress and distress.

LC Van Rental Deposit not returned

We booked a 9-seater minibus for our holiday in the UK in December 2010. This was confirmed with reservation number TRZ412986 and we paid a deposit of GBP400. On 22 December 2010 we cancelled the minibus (Tony from LC Van Rental's suggestion) because they could only offer us a 7-seater van as the 9-seater were "snowed in at Manchester" and we wanted collection of the 9-seater in Wakefield.

Long story short, we cancelled the minibus on 22 December 2010 on the phone with Tony and followed it up with an e-mail on the same day. Since then, 22 December 2010 to today, 15 April 2011 we have not received our GBP400 back.

The scenario described by David is exactly what happened to us. On 9th August, 2018 - less than 24 hours before we were due to drive to France on a family holiday – LC Van Rental left a telephone message saying that the wrong fuel had been put into the 12 seater minibus we had booked, which meant that it was no longer available. They said they were unable to provide a replacement but they would pay the difference if we found an alternative vehicle. Our contact, Michael, said that the full amount we paid [[£979 + £500 deposit] had in the meantime been returned to our bank account.

We were not able to get a replacement minibus at such short notice so we decided instead to travel in two cars, taking our own car and renting another, for which Michael agreed to pay the additional motorway / ferry charges.

On our return we discovered that Michael had lied about refunding our payment and we have battled for the past three months to get the company to honour it's obligation to us. Numerous telephone calls / email conversations have taken place with Michael, whose excuse about not refunding the money has been that he has been ill and not in the office to supervise the transactions. At various times he has agreed to pay the full amount [a total of £2, 060.30 including the additional costs], either by direct transfer or by a standing order; so far we have received £1, 050 [£50 in September and 4 payments of £250 in October from an account entitled ‘Francis SC’].

This morning I had yet another call from Michael saying that he has transferred another £250 into our bank account with the intention of paying the rest “by next Friday”, but yet again nothing has appeared in the account. During our [heated] discussion I confronted him with the negative reviews on the internet, and demanded explanations about a) the initial lie he made about refunding our payment/deposit immediately, b) the reason for the numerous delays in payment and c) why the 'standing order' he said he set up didn't automatically pay out but needed his intervention. His answer was that there was no point in explaining the reasons for any of this because I wouldn't believe him. This is probably the one truthful thing he has said.

We believe that the only reason we have managed to obtain as much money as we have is because we have continually petitioned Michael for it and have threatened to go to the small claims court. We have reached the conclusion that small amounts paid over a period of time is a tactic the company employs to keep people from pursing their claim through legal routes. Perhaps they also calculate that the emotional and practical strain on individuals will result in them abandoning their claim once they have received a proportion of what they are owed. For this reason we are determined to do all we can to prevent others being defrauded by this company. We have accumulated evidence of their wrongdoing, which includes emails and the message left on the answer machine, and have taken note of the links that have been suggested by others in this email trail about possible routes to expose their practice. However we would welcome any further suggestions.

I have reported them to the Police and listed it as a fraud so I'll let you know if anything happens. I've also dropped a line to BBC Rogue Traders as this is just the type of scam that they love to get their teeth into. I would suggest that if more of us did this then we may start to make some headway. Just let me know if you need any further help.

David I seem to be in the same situation as you as a month on and still owed over £1000 from them and so far have had £50 - I keep getting 1 excuse after another so any advice would be appreciated as they cant keep getting away with this.

Unfortunately the lying thieves are still up to their old tricks. I hired a 12 seater minibus to take 10 members of my company down to Southampton, this was arranged months in advance. The evening before we were due to go I received a call saying they could no longer supply the minibus as the one we were due to have had had the wrong fuel put in it and now wouldn't work! I asked them to get a replacement but they refused.
They did say that they would pay any difference between their hire costs and any that I was able to get which although still shocking customer care went some way to thinking we wouldn't get hit financially.
Anyway, months later, despite numerous promises of payment I have still only seen £20 from them - they have some wonderful excuses as to why they haven't been able to pay. Enough is enough and off to the small claims court we go.

I have a somewhat similar experience but managed to get the money back. Made a reservation for a 12 seater van and paid in advance 1199 GBP but because of strange communication from the company I got suspicious, googled them and ended up on this complaint post. I decided to cancel the booking in advance and was promised to get the full refund within 3-5 days. I didnt get the money at first but after a few emails and an angry phone call they actually refunded the full amount within 20 days.

So my point is, if you do cancel the booking beforehand then it was actually possible, albeit incovenient, to get the money back.

I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW ANYONE CAN MAKE A COMPLIANT AGAINST LC VAN RENTAL AS WE HAVE AS A COMPANY BEEN RENTING FROM THEM FOR YEARS AND THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN STRAIGHT FORWARD AND WHAT I WOULD DESCRIBE AS A COMPANY YOU CAN TRUST
