I find it despicable that Lenscrafters offers a Standard Progressive Lens with "Obstructed field of vision" for a lower cost than the AVP Lens that has a wider field of vision for a higher cost. Why would anyone want to purchase something with obstructed field of vision. Isn't that why we are all buying glasses because we have obstructed vision? I have been wearing progressive lenses from the inception and if progressive lenses have been improved upon, why do they still offer the lens of lesser quality. I say take the "Obstructed field of vision off the market and provide the Wider field of vision AVP Lens at the price of the Obstructed one. It may be time for a class action suit to reimburse all of us obviously want to see clearly...

You've got to be kidding. All progressive lenses have what you call "the obstructed field of vision, " even the AVP. People have been wearing the others for many years, and most don't have much difficulty. Many people don't want to pay the extra price if what they had before is fine for them. Would you suggest we take all cars off the road if they may not be as good as another? Get rid of Ford and Chevy because they are not B.M.W.'s. What a joke. I wear an older progressive with no problem. The vision is not "obstructed" as you put it. The edges are distorted, but they are in the AVP as well. DO MORE HOMEWORK before your lost cause idea for class action.

Interesting you say this. Although Lenscrafters has been able to improve on thier progressive lens, it does not have an "obstructed field of vision". A standard progressive lens, which has been used for over 10 years, loses some of the peripheral vision due to the channels, but does not hinder vision in the slighest. In fact, once you get used to the new Rx and the channels, most people do not even notice the slight loss in peripheral because they move their heads more to look around.

A new lens, the AVP was developed. However, in order to get this lens, the seg. height (determined by where your pupil sits in your frames), should be over 19mm...and in alot of patients, this is unable to happen. Therefore, the MVP lenses must still be used. This new technology is a luxury at the moment for those who can get their seg. heights to be higher and for those who want more room.

I think any law firm would laugh at your "class action suit"

Just a correction here - avp is LC lingo however many brands will fall under this name - they use accolade or Shamir products - and the seg ht can be as low as 17mm in the accolade and 16 in the Shamir line they use

As for pricing - new technology ==== more $$
LC dies need to buy these lens and they do not produce any of them so if they are charged more for them they need to pass the cost down
How stupid - a class action suit over this

AAHH Joshua and hammed3 You know it like you work it! If people understood simple business and actually thought about cost and variance They would understand why we offer differnt options to meet the various needs of all out cliental and patients. If you want Premium Items You have to pay for Premium Items, I cant go to the gas station and fill up on Premium @ unleaded prices.

Because cheap people who want a bargain don't want to pay the upgrade. There are always different levels of quality on EVERYTHING...so shall we stop selling Chevys and only sell Cadillacs? Shall we take hot dogs off the shelf and only sell filets? Get real lady, there are always different quality products. AND, the AVP lenses are NOT for everyone. Reseach products before you buy them, or complain about them.

I agree with you. I also purchased progressive lenses from Lenscrafters and found the same problem with the small reading area, distortion off to the sides, and wavyness when I walk. I purchased other progressive lenses from a reputable eye doctor and did not have the problem. My experience with Lenscrafters is that they overcharge, have bad customer service, and poor quality glasses.

People it is not just Lenscrafters that offers this new avp lens and the standrard...everyone does it. It is an amazing thing that lens are getting better, but one can't just take the others away. Some people are very senstive to change, or they just dont want to becasue "if it's not broke don't fix it" The AVP costs more becasue it is produced differently and cost more...those who want to try it or notice the "obstructed feild of veiw" have chocies and can chose to pay the extra or stay with the standards...If we took the old ones away..then it would be "Why are they only offering AVP lens, i liked the old ones just fine, why don't i have a choice anymore? Give us all a freaking break and stop talking about things and a feild you probably don't know alot about and look in other companies too, they are all the same!

It is despicable. I had to 400, 000 for my 5bdrm, 3bath, 3, 500 sqft home in Country Club Estates and my brother bought a 1bdrm bungalo, 886 sqft down by the railroad tracks for 56, 000. Man did I get ripped off!

And my truck! I paid 54, 000+ for a 4x4 1 Ton dually Crew cab with heats leather seats, tow package, AC pwr windows/seats but my neighbor got a brand new S-10 4cyl with AM radio and manual transmission for under 12, 000. Damn car dealers always cheating the working man.

But then there are my glasses. I purchased polycarbonate lenses that turn dark outside with antireflective coating for night driving and chose Varilux progressive bifocals that cost almost 900.00 at my eye doctor. Lenscrafters had the same frame and lenses for 680 and some change with 50% off on lenses when you buy a frame.

Every one of you complaining on every one of these topics are misinformed ill tempered crybabies who are so stupid you leave the store after paying for things you know know nothing about. Your idiots and got what was coming to you, not by Lenscrafters but by fate and karma. It will happenagain, not at lenscrafters but somewhere else if YOU dont' change.

Like someone mentioned earlier. AVP is Lenscrafters lingo for a certain manufacturer. Lenscrafters is limited on the type of progressive lenses they can order. Such as Varilux Physio and all of the digital free form progressive lenses on the market. All of which are available to every independent optician in the world. As far as price, let me give you an example. If you ordered a Varilux Comfort lens, polycarbonate material with AR coating, Lenscrafters would charge you, at retail price, between $580.00 to $620.00. In stores and boutiques like myself the cost would be between $380.00 to $430.00. See the difference! Also, independents have better warranties than Lensshafters. My advice, do some research. Just because you can get something quick doesn't mean it's of good quality or the best prices. Did you ever hear of the fast food industry? Lenscrafters is the Burger King of the optical industry.

The truth is that Lenscrafters can order most any of the digital free form lenses available, including the Physio 360. Research has shown that the Physio is a lesser lens than advertised, and not worth the money. The Shamir line that Lenscrafters uses for the titled A.V.P. is a much better choice. Check your pricing research also. I can sell the Varilux comfort lens for far less than you say in your post. As for warranty, I just replaced a nearly two year old lens, just because I felt like it was defective. Everyone up to my regional v.p. applauded my decision. Get YOUR research right.

We actually have many options for progressive lenses. The way that progressives are made is the lens is ground down to the correct rx. With progressives there's many many perscriptioins in there and how they blend the rxs together is where you get the blurry on the sides. As for your comment about how Lenscrafters is ripping you off, this seems rediculous to me, as what we're doing is giving you multiple options. People who have had the MVP lens before (including multiple members of MY family) have been fine with them. Some people are willing to pay more for a lens that was digitally surfaced that gives a bit more vision on the sides and that's perfectly fine. Yeah I'll admit that we cost a bit more than other stores, but you are paying for quality. Believe me I've heard customers like you complain before, and you need to learn more about the company before you threaten to sue us or complain to the workers behind the counter about how you got "ripped off". Take a look at the price of a Varilux lens (the highest quality lens out there) an you'll see what I mean, quality does have a cost.

On 3/24/11, I spoke with agent Amy who was very rude. I am a permanent disabled veteran and I had participated in the [gift for site program]. However, my eye glasses are to0 strong, I got the prescription at this location but they were made at the SanFrancisco location. Your agent amy said she is not going to argue with me, and I have to"pay" when she asked me about my glasses. I do not appreciate being talked to like that, and I don't see why they could not make a exception. In addition I had a single vision and a reading vision but I could not handle looking between the two. Customer service is very important for business and I hope the cooperate office can assist me in this matter.

On 3/24/11 I spoke with your agent Beth who rude to me and refused to give me her last name. The situation is - I ordered a pair of glasses but for a long time now the glasses are just to strong for me. I was participating in the [gift to sight program]. I am a permanently disabled veteran. The manager matt set me up a appointment on 3/23/11at 12:00am. So, beth called me the following day and said that the doctor will not see me and that the manager does not know the policy, well if that is the case. It really seems strange to me that the cooperate office would hire someone who does not know policy-n-procedure. My glasses are defective and hurting my eyes and I don't see why lens craft can not fix the problem no matter what circumstances arise. Customer service is very import for business. I only hope the cooperate office c an resolve the matter at hand. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions my nu#[protected].

Glasses completely wrong after 2 eye exams. Then I was told That I could go to any lenscrafter store to get satisfaction. The store in Union NJ, near where I work wanted 55 dollars to examin my eyes, because they were ot the 1st store I went to. The Paramus store made a 3rd attempt which failed. I use my old glasses for work and driving now because that was my 1 time 500 dollar covered visit for the year.
