To whom this may concern,
My name is Trevor Smith, I run a new cargo company with my wife called Smith&Koch Cargo&Transport. We are a new company and I just got started last year. About 3 weeks or more ago, I called and filed a complaint through customer care whom I have not heard anything back from. I was driving through Houston TX, and I stopped at a Loves Truck Stop like I normally do, because I have always felt safe staying at loves. This was the first time I had seen one with security but I am guessing it's in a rough neighborhood. I had already been driving for about 10 hrs, by DOT standards I needed to stop and rest. I only allow people who work for me to drive 8hrs. After I stopped, I was in a legal parking spot and 45 mins later I was asleep and I was awaken by security beating on my hood with the tip of their flashlight. I opened my door to see what the issue was and he was very rude in telling me that I had to leave the premises, I explained that I was very tired and I needed some rest before I could drive anywhere and that I always stayed the night at loves with no issues. He then became irate and kept repeating the question are you refusing to leave? He had a gun and seemed like the type that wouldn't hesitate to pull it out for no reason, so when he started to act like that, my fight or flight instinct kicked in and I was submissive and told him I didnt want any problems, that I would leave. I was not a threat, I don't have any weapons and was really caught off guard by this guys actions. I thought they were supposed to be trained professionals. I looked up on my phone the next Loves and the only one close without security was in Katy, on the other side of Houston. It was another hour drive. On my way to the loves in Katy, I was really fighting my sleep hard and about 20 mins into my trip, I nodded off at the wheel doing 60mph and totalled one of my work Van's. Luckily I was empty and was on route to pick up a load. I have been struggling since to keep afloat, I only had 3 vans to begin with. I am a student, I am going to the University of Phoenix, I am getting a Bachelor's in Science Business with a project management certificate, so as you can imagine, I cannot afford to replace that van. Without that van our profits has dropped dramatically, so I am unsure of our future at this moment. I feel like there was some negligence on the part of that loves truck stop and this situation could have been avoided all together. There was absolutely no reason for that to happen. I have looked at the Google reviews on that location and there are several complaints about the same thing.
Desired outcome: To be discussed
