On February 3, 2025, driving back from our local airport the Kona’s motor started stalling and finally stopped. We had to call a tow truck and had it taken to Hyundai for inspection due to the engine issues. On Feb 5th we received the diagnosis from Hyundai stating that the engine had seized because the oil drain plug was missing. They noticed the Mavis Tires & Brakes oil change sticker on my windshield wiper and advised I call them as they are responsible for the failure.
I immediately called the Mavis location, Store 1794 located on 6025 State Road 70 E, Bradenton FL 34203, and asked to speak to the manager, but he was out and would call me back. On February 6th I missed a call from Mark. I called back and he took my information and said he would investigate it. Mark called me back on Feb. 10th. To my surprise he informed me the claim was denied. I asked to speak to a regional manager. Mark told me I would get a call. To date I have not received any call backs.
The Kona only has 72,580 miles on it, still under warranty. We have 3 payments left. My son uses it and has not been able to attend college nor work for a few weeks due to this.
Claimed loss: The cost to replace the engine is $11,839.66
Desired outcome: That Marvis do right and comply with their warranty statement and repair the damages.
