This is my personal WARNING if you are thinking about buying Mastercraft doors made by MidWest Manufacturing. Mastercraft (MC) doors are made by MidWest Manufacturing (MW), a company owned by Menards, Inc. They do not tell you this in the sales process. To me they play down other door manufactures they carry in comparison to the Mastercraft (MC) doors. The MC pre-finished fiberglass door that I purchased was professionally installed and it performed well until Mother Nature rained on it and then it leaked through the window seal. The water ran down the window to the inside exterior of the door down on to my foyer floor. I called the store where it was purchased and Laron Hafenrichter, Millwork Manager 1st Asst. sent me a form via email to complete. I completed the form and finally got a reply from a Louise Fox, Guest Relations at M W telling me on June 24 that they forwarded my file to their supplier who carries the warranty on the product I purchased. IN MY OPINION, THIS ACT IS SIMPLY NOT FOLLOWING THE UNIFORM COMMERCIAL CODE, THE LAW OF THE LAND. MW is trying to push the leaky door off on their supplier of parts. The fact is MW made or tried to make a door and merchandised it as door that kept Mother Nature’s elements out of my home. This is the "implied warranty" of every door seller including Menards where I purchased the door. Next, on the door at the store, and on the one IMPROPERLY manufactured that they sent to my home there was an "express warranty" and in their Exterior Door Collection booklet provided to me by Laron during the sales process there was an "express warranty" clearly for the fiberglass door that I purchased against manufacturing defects in material and workmanship. So far, the poor manufacturing workmanship has caused the door to fail at the purpose of a door.
Because MW and Menards sold it to me as a door that protects one from the exterior elements, there are laws of Implied and Express warranties that both over-ride their made up secret warranty that they are trying to shove down the complaining customer's throat. See the secret MW warranty below ---
"The warranty on the door covers the replacement of parts. The warranty does not cover commensurate damages, such as labor charges and travel expenses.” The offer for the replacement window with frame only satisfies the warranty and is still valid. To address your concerns regarding the replacement window; the replacement window would come as a contained unit. This means that the frame is pre-glazed to the window and the caulk has already been applied to self adhere and seal to the door skin. Please also note that the interior of the door is injected with foam that would prevent any saturation to occur within the door slab itself."
As you can see by the attached letter to me, MW (Amanda Bradly, Louise Fox) acknowledges the door is not properly sealed. Menards (Arlene Krueger, Marti Swenstad) and MW expect the customer is to repair their manufacturing process errors with a parts kit. They do not want to send a repairman out to fix their doors under warranty even though they imply and express that the workmanship is under warranty. See attached photo proofs of the above. This is the only resolution that Menards/MW is willing to entertain so far and I find it unacceptable. In the mean time my door is still leaking rain and I will keep you informed as to the final resolution. 7-30-10

I LOVE my Mastercraft doors. They are so much better than the doors I previously had in my house. I have recommended several of my friends that are also remodeling the Mastercraft doors and those who have purchased them love them as well. We haven't had any issues.

I have the same problem. We custom ordered 2 Mastercraft out-swing doors and they sent us garbage. All they did was take the threshold and reverse it and slap a nailing flange on the what i was previously the inside of the door and called it it an out-swing door. It left a void with a sharp edge, the weather seal was on the inside of the door instead of the outside, and it is an accident waiting to happen. My installers adjusted the door so that it closed properly. We never had an issue with the door. However, after repeated complaints Mastercraft sent technician out. e was incompetent and lamed all the problems on the installers. We have had a Fire Marshall declare te doors a trip hazard, the building inspector declare the door as not up to code and exonerate us of any wrongdoing, and 4 competitors write statements stating that he door is wrong and the work was fine. I sent all documentation and photos to Scott Collette 's home in Eau Claire Wisconsin (Menard CoO) .Menard's response? "WE have already addressed this matter with the retail staff.
Now we are looking at a product safety recall and lawsuit. They still reuse to ship us the missing parts, address the actual complaint, and continue to blame everything on the installers. The doors are not tested for structural under NAMI, only for thermo and carry only the NFRC tag. That means they do not meet R613.4 code 2006 of the IRC. In other words, our building inspector can demand that the doors be removed.

Legal Counsel for Menards and Midwest Manufacturing is James Anderson. His dial in direct phone number is like playing the lottery. My first Pick 3 choice is 715. My Second choice is 876 and my pick4 number is 2646. What a coincidence it would be if someone tried playing those numbers as well. As I say, Mr Anderson has a dial direct number at Menards, and it would be like playing the lottery for results to get a hold of him. I understand some states allow you to play the lottery by phone!
We still have not had our problem addressed. The doors are still missing the astragals to keep the weather out, the thresholds are still unsafe, and Mastercraft is still trying to blame the installation for their manufacturing default.

I too had the misfortune to purchase a Mastercraft door from Menards and deal with Louise Fox. My door dosen't seal and they claim it is' improperly installed' It took a complaint to the Attorney General's office for them to even look at the door, again they claim 'improperly installed'. When I had my door unloaded the person helping asked why I bought a cheap door, when I told him the price he said well it's not a cheap door just a crappy one. I WISH I HAD LISTENED AND RETURNED IT TO MENARDS. I believe (as well as the contractor who installed it ) the poor quality of the door, or perhaps improper storage got me a defective door that couldn't be "properly installed" The Attorney General's office suggested Small claims Court. as the next option. When I can afford to replace this door I will buy from a local business that stands behind it's product. BUYER BEWARE . The person who"loves their Mastercraft doors" must be either a happy accidient or a Mastercraft represenitive. I will work to help everyone I know avoid this. I will never buy a door, or window from Menard's again.

I also had a problem with my MasterCraft door. We purchased it about a year ago had my brother, a professional carpenter, install it. It came with 2 predrilled holes, 1 for the deadbolt and one for the regular doorknob. So upon attempting to install our doorknob, I noticed it was quite a snug fit. I could not get the two pieces to line up in the hole. Instead of forcing it, I went on to try the deadbolt. The holes were not predrilled in the proper place and for about 2 months we had a hot pad in the deadbolt hole. In addition, there was a huge gap at the top of the door where the weather stripping was about 1/2 inch too short. The problem was resolved, we got a new door but the plugs to cover the screws around the plastic frame around the window were missing. Needless to say the doorknob fixtures fit better in this door, but we still had those missing pieces. I contacted the company and they sent a box of 3 different plugs, not a single on was right (even though I gave them the style number). I took these to my local Menards to see if I could get one of their "spares" kept behind the corner. None of those fit either. Some more time went buy and I had my mom ask for to take some off an identical door. No dice, however, they did give her a few plugs to try. Again, not a single one fit. Upon my next visit to Menards I asked if I could pull some off a similar door. They said yes due the lengthy process I have already had. Brought them home and yes you guessed it, none fit. I called and Menards told me I had to deal with MasterCraft/Midwest Manufacturing for these cases but since I was obviously frustrated the manager submitted my request. I received a box 1 week later with about 15 packets of plastic plugs. Now I am sure you are waiting for me to say that one of these was finally the fit, but not a single one. How can this be? They made the door, have my style number, etc. Do they just randomly piece each door together? I now have to contact the company yet again. This should be fun...

try calling Scott Collette at his home. He is listed in Eau Claire Wisconsin. He is the Chief of Operations for Menards, hence Mastercraft. Jason Bauer was the unskilled technician I dealt with. Despite photos, letters from other contractors, and threats of ;lawsuit, Menards stood by Jason's assertion that the problem was installation, not the fact that the threshold was cut so short that it left a void and was deemed a trip hazard. The doors also do not meet structural testing standards, We solved the hardware alignment problem by grinding down the deadbolt. The problem occurred after installation and a sagging of the upper jam occurred. This was due to a structural design flaw, which would explain the lack of NAMI certification.

Masterfcraft doors and windows shoud be avoided.Tell everyone you know ! Not to buy them, no door w from Menard's again. I am told they own Mastercraft. Mastercraft or Mastercrap claims the faulty products are 'mproperly installed.' mine is a defective patio door installed by a experienced contractior I have done business with in the past. The door does not seal . It took a complaint to the attorney Generals office to get them to actually look at it again claiming i mproperinstulation (I had 2 other builders look at it and both said it was defective.

WOW!, It looks like I will need an act of GOD to ever get the issue that we are having concerning a steel patio door that we purchased from Menards, , Louise Fox has sent me a letter asking for my approval to replace the glass panes . She seems to think that it would solve our problem. We spent about $800.00 + for the door assuming we would get a Quality product, but that certainly hasn't been the case. I will send her an approval, but I will amazed if it corrects the issue we have experienced with the door..

A few years ago I purchased 2 double doors replacing sliding glass doors for my home...the entire bill was around $5, 000 for the two. Recently the handles and locks are problematic and so I asked about replacement of those at my local menards. They gave me this website to check in with. There is printing on the glass of one set...I was told this site could direct me as to whether they are Mastercraft or Crestline or Jeldwin doors. I am trying to avoid going back into my tax files to find this particular invoice.
The printing on the glass at the bottom is:
WS TEMP l/8" UA "Stanley" in imprinted on one set of hinges.
ANSI Z97.1-200

Could you please advise me as to the brand of door this printing would be on.

I truly wish I had found this page before purchasing the center hinge door to replace my sliding patio door. After this door was installed by a PROFESSIONAL carpenter, we found that the swing door was actually warped and will not seal. I contacted Menard's, who of course, cannot do anything because it is installed! How else were we going to find out the problem?! We put a level on the entire frame - every thing is plum. Put the level on the problem door -- it is warped on the top corner that will not seal. There is an actual gap between the level and the corner of the door. I contacted Mastercraft and they had me download their installation instructions. Okay...the door was installed correctly, but it is WARPED! I am going to contact them again and attach photos with the level, hopefully they will take care of the problem. They said the door is steel and can't warp, well, the core is WOOD, over layed in steel and it is WARPED!

Midwest Manufacturing is, I believe, an unethical, poor quality company. I purchased Their QuickCap synthetic deck material and well before the warrantee period was through, it was shrinking and left large gaps in my deck. After jumping through their hoops, sending photos, receipts etc., their representative, Louise Fox, sent me a letter stating I had to "exchange any QuickCap you are dissatisfied with...for credit toward an alternate UltraDeck decking line." They made it clear that I had to pay the labor to pull up the defective decking, bring it in to Menards, and pay to reinstall the other replacement decking. I am NOT going to pay thousands of dollars AGAIN for my deck, due to their lousy product.
They obviously won't stand behind their product in a meaningful way, and obviously neither will Menards.
