MetLife this company is a scam

I have two dental plans with Metlife through my company(primary) and the company I retired from(secondary). I called and explained to Metlife from day one that I had two different MetLife dentals. Gave them all of the information, group numbers etc. They have never got it yet. They have billed me for overpayment and billed my dentist office for overpayment and they threaten to cut them off of future dental claims. They are ###s! They need to hire people who know what they are doing. You can't even speak with a supervisor. Who do you complain to?

MetLife is really bad. My daughter had braces when I changed employers, so I continued coverage under COBRA. MetLife keeps paying claims at a rate lower than the policy. Your state insurance regulator (Texas Department of Insurance for me) is your friend. Two claims corrected after complaints to Texas Depart of Insurance. MetLife's second response to TDI included better/changed training for customer service reps. So customer service reps no longer argue, but service is still really bad - difficult to get claims corrected and timelines not met.

I have a choice of insurers at my current employer, including MetLife and Aetna (administrator for previous employer). Guess what? I chose a different insurer.

MetLife metlife= hassle central

MetLife Auto Insurance is great if you never put in a claim... they do a fantastic job of taking your money. But if you ever have an accident, it is nearly impossible to get them to respond appropriately to a claim.

I had been driving a friend's car and totaled it. Not at fault accident. No other vehicles damaged.

But I was behind the wheel. My friend's car was totaled and it didn't have collision insurance. It took over a month for MetLife to acknowledge the claim... then it took another 60 days for them to pay my friend.

When the car was totaled, Met Life sold it to salvage without returning the contents of the trunk (which they had promised). They also didn't report the car totaled to the MVA, so my friend began receiving notices a year later for overdue registration charges on a car that didn't exist. That, of course, caused him many hours of grief with the MVA to get it straightened out.

Needless to say, I had to invest dozens of hours over 90 days to get me friend paid-out... and even after all of that the results were still unsatisfactory.

Fast-forward a couple of years, Met Life had a number of billing issues with me... their invoices would arrive in my mailbox one or two days prior to their due date (if at all)... and then they would financially penalize me for paying late.

That was the last straw. I switched to Progressive, where we saved $600/year.

Keep away.

MetLife fails to honor cd maturity

I sent money to MetLife last year for a one year CD. Its maturity date was December 24, 2009. The money was sent by me, from my bank account via ACH. It was a VERY large amount of money.

I called MetLife, as requested by them, on December 22, 2009, to ensure that my maturing CD funds would, indeed, be sent to my bank account upon maturity. I was told I would get the funds December 28.

Come December 30, still no money. I called to find out what was going on. I was told that they had "not processed my request" and that I MAY get my money January 4. I said that was not acceptable and I wanted my money the next day, December 30. The service rep said she would call me back to the next day to let me know what was being done. No call.

I called again today, December 31. Guess what...still not processed! Do you think this is ethical or moral? Would Metlife allow you not to pay your mortgage or Credit Card on time without penalty, interest, or both? This is disgraceful and dishonest. Please do use this bank. We need to teach bank such as these a lesson.

By the way, these are all conversations recorded by MetLife. And, they admitted, twice, it was their "failure to process." Maybe by failing to process they get to use my money for free?

Please do use this bank. We need to teach bank such as this a lesson.

Man, do I regret opening a CD with these "people." First they did a transfer then sent me a letter telling them to send a check. They didn't check to see (or notify me) that they'd already made the transfer, so I ended up with an overdraft from my other bank. (Fortunately, the other bank was understanding and refunded the overdraft fee). But EVERY "person" I've spoken to from Met Life has had a could care less attitude. Really nasty attitudes and not customer friendly at all. Now, my money is stuck there for a year. Can't wait to get it out of there. I don't trust these people at all!

MetLife Long term disability

Dont be fooled by your employer suggesting to you to enroll in MetLife Disability Insurance. I made that mistake, and for 8 years I paid my premiums to MetLife. Then, I was injured at work and drew my workers compensation. Six months after my work related injury, I suffered a stroke. I applied for my long term disability and after all my medical records were given to them they turned me down. However, they offered to help me apply for social security disability. I told them no, I would do that on my own. They informed me, when I received my award letter from ss disability to fax it to them. It took several months to be approved by ss disability and in the meantime my family had to help me with living expenses. When I received my award letter from ss disability I faxed it to MetLife as instructed. Of course, I was denied. I appealed their decision 3 times and all three were denied. Reason given, MetLifes definition of disability is not the same as the Social Security Administration. I was also informed by MedtLife that I could file a lawsuit against them. That would be great but no attorney that I have spoken to will handle this ERISA case. Do you suppose MetLife is aware of this? I think they are, that is why they say well you can sue! So, please, just save the money you would spend on monthly premiums to MetLife and leave it in the bank.

I received my LTD through my Company E.W. Scripps via Aetna back in 2002 .. I then received my SSD and they paid back Aetna as was laid out what they paid above they were to pay and Approved my LTD through age 65 .. At one point I was switched to Metlife as the company changed plans ..

As time passed they stopped requesting any Forms from me as Multiple Sclerosis was not an issue of "getting better" but one of Progression .. This year I moved, I contacted them to Change of Address .. Now I am being "harassed" to update my Income AND have a Doctor fill out a form and sign this form they are calling a "HIPPA" Act ..

I find this irritating as they have since "Outsourced" this Department and they do not answer the phone, return your calls, and do not understand what you are saying .. For me having Cognitive Issues it is frustrating ..

It is amazing how Metlife if able to get away with this type of criminal action. The Department of Justice should certainly look into their business procedures! I am disabled and Metlife should have paid disability benefits to me until age 65. Of course they did everything in their power to deny me and now I am living on 1/4 of what I was entitled to. Your stories should exactly like mine.

I received long term disability from Metlife for 2 years through Bank of America. They wanted me to use their lawyer to file for my my SSD. When SS denied me the first time, Metlife found a doctor to lie for them and they discontinued my long term disability leaving me with no money or health insurance and no medications for my illnesses. I had no income for 2 years and I finally got my SSD. Metlife is suppose to pay me the difference minus my SSD. I tried to get a lawyer to help me get me long term disability back and sign pa pers saying that he would and later told me right before my SSD that I should be glad that I got two years. I lost my excellnet credit rating because I could no longer pay my credit cards which I used to pay for rent and food. My daughter who was in college at that time took over my car payments and paid the difference for rent and food from her scholarships and college loans. Only through God's blessings that we made it through. Bank of America knew what was going on and they garnished my SSD to pay their credit card bill. I close my account with them and it has been over 7 years and their debt collectors want me in court on 6/14/13 to prove my income after they knowingly stole my SSD.And the lawyer I hired stole my money and never filed bankruptcy for me. Metlife and Bank of America have no integrity and they stole my benefits knowing how hard it is for the little person to get help. But they will have to answer to a higher power for their wrong doing. I will have all of my documents for court to show what they are doing.

I am on Met-Life long term disability, everything started out good, I got my long term approved by Met-Life until 2024 and filed and received my Social Security right away, then they needed an update by my doctor and received it now 3 months later they need it again, how often do they need this. I get a little nervous about Met-Life and now wonder why my Employer dropped them after all these years and went with another company? I have read that their definition of disability is different then Social Security's definition of disability.I am 100% disabled, by S.S terms. I hate living with this issue, their commericals want you to feel protected by purchasing their insurance, I would read the fine print with this company.

Metllife pulled the same thing with me...by age 51 I hadpaid on a disability policy for almost 15 years at work. When i became disabled due to a spinal disease and several surgeries which left me unable to work. they initially paid the monthly amount .but as soon as i was declared 100% disabled by social security they stopped the payment option that would have supplemented my monthly disability check that was supposed to guaranteed i had an income of $1500 per month. ( about $200 per month)
During the first couple of years i Lost my Home, my automobile, my partner of 31 years committed suicide . MetLife insisted I come to a 2 day evaluation 75 miles from where i am living a week after undergoing an emergency surgery from my gall bladder rupturing. I was very ill and had no transportation or money to hire someone to take me. Trying to explain to them by phone, email, regular mail was to no avail and i had a total mental breakdown just trying to lead a daily life.
A year later after finally getting my act together i began the process of trying to fight the beurocracy again I became so stressed out i had 2 heart attacks, and the loss of one kidney to cancer. I estimate that they should have paid me almost $17, 000 over the last 7 years. I cant get an attorney to take my case pro-bono or contingent. According to them Metlife has the deep pockets and power to wait everyone out and there was almost zero chance of ever winning a judgment against them. That amount of money may sound small to some people but apparently i fall between the cracks when it comes to getting any assistance because my monthly income is about $70 too much to get food stamps. The cost of lliving keeps going up and i become more disabled every year. This year i could not even afford the insurance on my trailer home living in Florida that alone is stressful..One good hurricane and you are homeless
So my recommendation is dont waste your money with a disability policy with this company .The security you will feel over the years is a joke. I didn't plan to spend the last years of my life in poverty but Metlife helped put me here

MetLife metlife india issued fraud certificate

Metlife India issued apolicy Policy No.[protected] for my child, after 6 years i paid the premium & i found out that the proposal & the certificate of maturity committment was totally mis interpreted & the certificate was fraudelently signed by the agency manager of Metlife India, since then i have been chasing the authorities, but their staff has tottally turned mute on my grievances. I wanted to surrender the policy after noticing this fraud but i was surprised to see that Metlife was offering me a payment of about 10% of what i paid in 6 years, Whereas similar policy with LIC grew to more than double the paid amount of value in 4 years. I realized Metlife or most of the other private insurance companies in India are bogus in returning the hard earned monies of investors. Now i will move to press & court to fight for my hard earned money that has been taken by Metlife India by fraud.

MetLife non paymement of benifits

My story is no different then many in which books are written and stories in the Bible portray. This is David vs. Goliath, the small Vs. the Giant. The Weak vs. the Strong. As a matter of fact the movie Sick is an accurate depiction of what goes on in unfair practices of Insurance companies. I am complaining against Met Life Disability. This is one of the most unethical and immoral group of people I have ever dealt with in my life. They have destroyed a many families while in the process profiting huge returns on premiums. They have sucked up my premiums every month for close to a year. When I had an injury which forced me into surgery and out of work for 3 months, I submitted my request for short term disability benefits immediately. I did so prior to going in for this surgery with hopes that it would be processed and I would not have a lapse in my income. I was assured that all was OK and I could feel protected by them while out on medical leave. As the weeks went by and I was attempting to recover no checks came I. After 1 month of being off work not a single cent came in to keep up with any of my daily expenses. Then came the notice that my benefits had been denied due to my issue being a pre-existing condition. I had always had back paid however these (2) accidents which came months after I had their insurance put my normal back pain into a situation where surgery was required they jumped all over the idea of this being a pre-existing condition. Then I was told that all I needed was a letter from my doctor with dates of these new accident and that would clear everything up I did so with in 24 hours. I followed to the T what the representative from MetLife had asked of me as did my Doctor. This was all of a sudden not good enough, and they now wanted me to go through their formal appeals process which takes 6-10 weeks. Due to my inability to keep a household together with zero income after missing 2 months of work I had to prematurely enter the work force a month too soon which again made my back problems worsen. Very little concern was shown by the representatives of MetLife. I t was clear to me that those who I was talking with were there to make sure Met Life Kept every dollar for themselves which is how they can still afford to host these extremely expensive golf and Tennis tournaments. With the mentality used by the associates of Met Life. I have ever had a Head and than have an accident with extreme Head trauma it would be considered pre-existing. Since Met Life could not afford my 2 months leave of absence I lost my Apartment where I housed my 2 kids, My car which got us to and from work. I as well further injured myself forcing my to take more medications than prior to my surgery and could not perform at the top[ of my game which my job being commissioned based destroyed my financially. . The best part is when I told my employer at a collections agency in Phoenix, AZ of whom I had been a notable top producer and 7 year long employee that I needed to go away for FLMA to get better and off the medications I was immediately terminated. Leaving my family without shelter, income or the necessities to continue an even halfway normal life. Thank you to all you big wigs at MetLife If there is an afterlife I pray that you are no part of any good that may come of it. You should all be ashamed of yourselves especially you MRS. FRIENDLY as she goes by. One of the most underachieving word grabbers using words such as uuhh1…and uhm! And like. On a regular basis just searching for the right words to tell me sorry but you is just another SUCKER customer.

Met life REAL Fax # is [protected] call it as much as you want.It works.Tho it can be changed.
You can record your conversaion by using " this is recorded for quality controll" call all day long if that what it takes. If you find that they are always confused, there is a LAW called DISPAIRITY TOWARD OTHERS...it's against the LAW to be as leagaly confused as you want to be.
Asked the computor voiced operator ...CUSTOMER SERVICE... you will get a HUMAN . Ask then for a CASE MANEGER. If your case manager gets you no where ? ASK FOR THEIR SUPERVISOR !
Your time will be better used . Sorry to say but if everyone does this, it will clog them up...so keep trying. Call your ATTORNEY GENERAL . He will send proper paper work. If every one does this and their results are too poor HE will then start a class action. Action !

I have metlife insurance and have not been able to get them to pay for my short or long term disability. I fractured my hip and dislocated it. They took my premiums and have not paid me a cent. I paid to have the forms filled out by doctors and paid for medical records to be sent to them. This happened in Oct 2010. Since I have put so much stress on my other hip I have torn the labrum and looking at that surgery. Their doctors say I should all ready be back at work even though I had three hip surgeries on the same hip within one year and my other hip is messed up..What is wrong with this picture?

I totally agree, they brought in the CAT team with Mike Tori - there standard line is - your damage is from a prior storm or event. They will only agree to the least costly thing damaged and say the rest is from a prior event outside your coverage period. They will even bring in experts (paid engineers etc) to agree with them. Watch for this guy & this company.

MetLife dis-honest practices

I bought Metlife dental COBRA coverage for my daughter after losing job. MetLife keep on rejecting orthodontics claims saying employee not eligible for ortho. Of course, I am not eligible for ortho but my daughter is eligle under this plan. When I call customer service and explain this, they kept on resubmitting claims. These claim processors kept on rejecting it! This kept on going for seven months.

The whole purpose of COBRA coverage is to help out during no job. Here i was stuck with double payments - (1) payments to doctor and (2) COBRA payments. Not to mention frustrations and stress in dealing with MetLife.

Finally, they paid some but started doing the same thing for new claims. They decided to reject claims rather than fix their system. It is amazing they can get by doing dis-honest practices!

Yep they are a bunch of incompetent idiots. I have problems like that. I get out of network services preapproved. The dentist submits the pretreatment estimate and gets it denied. I call them and they say oh that should have been approved. This goes on and on for months. What a bunch of babbling fools.

MetLife customer service

I am so fed up with the customer service for Metlife. I called to get a copy of an ID card for my vehicle. I also wanted to ask some questions about my coverage. The first person I spoke to I could not understand. I am sure it was in a another country. I asked three times for the id card before the person finally understood me. Asked to place me on hold and then the next thing I knew I was transferred to another person who had no idea who I was or what I wanted. This person was an American. I could clearly tell this csr was stressed. She was rushed and kept apologizing for everything the other rep did not do. I was able to get my questions answered by the American and promised my id cards would be faxed within the hour. I waited and 2 hours later no id card. I called back and got another person from the foreign country. I then asked where I was calling. They were very reluctant to tell me the truth. I told them I knew they were not american and to quit saying there name was Steve. The person offered me their supervisor even though I did not ask. The next thing I knew I was being transferred again! This time to someone in the states. I was informed my ids had been faxed but they would fax again just to make sure. I asked the american who or what country keeps answering the phone. This american was terrified to tell me the truth. They finally told me that they are all afraid for their jobs since Metlife has folks in other countries that even though obviously incompetent would be more than happy to take their jobs. I could tell these csr's were under severe stress! Shame on you Metlife, how can you treat your customers this way and your employees. I plan to find other coverage now! I am so fed up with American companies doing this to Americans!

MetLife Scam and cheating

We have had Metlife home owners insurance for over 15 years . Never have we filed a claim. Insurance paid out of escrow faithfully. Then sends us a letter, that due to overwelming cost from storms, they must cancel Florida's homeowners. I understand the costs, however, what is insurance for!? How can they in all fairness do this to people, who one have never used any money they've paid and two purchased the insurance for the reason they are saying they can no longer cover for! I am furious. We have struggled now to find another insurance, which now we found, but had to pay intire premium for the year. I feel that when Met dropped those of us that had never filed a claim they should be made by the law to give back at least what a new premium would be for all they've cheated! I will not stop here. I will go the next step. This type of business in our country must stop!

None of you get it. You WERE covered while paying premium and were given ample notice of cancellation. You DID get what you paid for, you were covered for six figures for the duration of your policy. I think you need a basic economic class. You just don't get it, therefore fall under the "ignorant consumer" label that most fall under. Go as far as you want, you have absolutely no case, and I have Progressive insurance.. READ what you sign, [censored], you signed that you can be cancelled at any time with ample notice. You, in essence, are a complete ### and shoudn't be allowed to have children for fear these children will grow up like you and be ignorant ###s. Keep crying, though, it might help. In 150 years.

Easy for you to say, you too don't get it., The corrupt Court system, crooked lawyers are our main problems. They are in control.

http://www.taxpayer.net/user_uploads/file/Bailout/BankBios/
They never lent you any money, they simply perpetrated fake loan on you and me, by moving people 8-types of retirements and Wall Street investments to ourselves. We have crooked lawyers and authorities helping them go free. Go to Youtube, learn "The Truth about the Bank", you don't need to trace your loan to Wall Street, you need to have the court force them to prove they lend you money in real cancel check. All Banks committed crimes together against the people. They created the illusion that they lent money. Otherwise they would not be able to make 119%/year when Interest is low 3%. Before 1993, they earned 4-5%/year. Go figure out. Sue the Banks and crooked lawyers, including the bad decision makers. The created $0.01/sh stock and exchange with your Retirement at $25-$30/hr, plus our tax$$ TARP. That is why we lost our moneys in 2000's, and more ahead.

I agree with you with the flooding of your home. We too have Metlife and we have the premium taken from escrow. Unfortuantely we have only been in our home 15 months. We recently came home with our four children, walked in the house and the kids smelled something funny. I told them to go brush their teeth and I would open some windows, upon doing this I turned on the ceiling fan. Next thing we know the house was filling up with black smoke and we evacuated... Like 3 minutes later the house litterally blew up. Windows blew off doors ect... Metlife is refusing to give us any answers because we had a home fire 7 years ago that was electrical...And a closed case from Cause & origin Firm... They said we need to be questioned further... We lost everything we own, 4 toddlers and we have nothing... In my opinion I think Metlife is useless... and I will tell everyone we know not to use this company!

I too have been a faithful MetLife Homeowners policy holder for approx. 15 years. Their premium is paid through my escrow account and never has been a day late to my knowledge. My mortgage is through Wells Fargo which was recently purchased by JP Morgan/Chase. At the end of June 2010 I called MetLife to tell them I had water damage in my finished basement. Over the phone, the agent asked if I had a sump pump. I said no and she said the water was from rain seepage. I explained I had a $5000 flood control system installed on the property when I purchased the house and the flood control was still under warranty. I live in a suburb of Chicago. The phone claims adjuster would not budge and after 30 minutes I knew I was talking to a deaf ear. The water damage became worse. I called MetLife and told them I have water damage and I want an adjuster to come out and tell me what will be replaced. MetLife said everyone in your neighborhood has rain seepage and that is what you have. After 3 weeks of increasingly worse damage I hired a contractor who opened the wall and found the main water line to the house was leaking. I had him break through my foundation floor and 7 feet down he found the leak. I called MetLife and told them I have a pacemaker and defibulator and they had just put me through 3 weeks of extreme abuse and MetLife was not responsive in any way to my requests for an adjuster to come and look at the problem. MetLife insisted it was rain seepage, which I never had in 15 years. When they realized that they had caused thousands of dollars of damage because of their shoddy claim service and their practice of diagnosing the problem over the phone. When I told MetLife about my health problems and the huge amount of black mold growing up my walls they decided they could have an adjuster come out the next day. I had a contractor here when the independant adjuster, not a MetLife adjuster, showed up. For some reason they exchanged cards and I asked the adjuster to send me the claim quote. I wait a week and after not hearing from MetLife I called the independant claims adjuster MetLife sent and he said he was waiting for my contractors figures!. Why? It will cost what it costs. I want nothing other than my home to be made whole again. That is the purpose and legal obligation of all property insurance companies. This started on June 26. Yesterday MetLife called my home phone after I asked them to call my cell phone because I would get the call 24/7, MetLife left a message saying they would send a check. Since the independant claims adjuster was here another wall was opened and mold has traveled the whole length of the wall. MetLife does not care about me or my property and did everything they could not to accept responsibility for the damage. If you are considering buying homeowners insurance I strongly recommend you do not buy MetLife. MetLife wants to change the original claim number and close the claim with a check they say they are mailing me. This claim stays open until all mold, carpet damage, drywall damage, furniture damage, health damage is paid in full. MetLife provided the worst service I have ever seen from an insurer. By the way, I sold insurance for 20 years. I have moved all my customers from MetLife to what I consider insurance companies that are responsive to their policyholder's needs. MetLife also has some unusual practices when it comes to paying veteran death claims according to the news.

MetLife Denied services

Daughter needed braces. Called Metlife to see if it was covered under our dental policy. The employee said yes. Gave no other information. Made the appointment with Orthodontist. They even called Metlife. They drew up the payment plan going on what Metlife said was covered. Braces have been in my daughters mouth over two weeks. Got a letter stating she wasn't covered. Turns out there is a 24month waiting period before braces are covered. Well why in the hell did they tell us it was covered? No one mentioned 24 months to us or the Orthodontist. Metlife now says you can't go buy what their employees tell you. If I need information on my benefits because I couldn't find the information on my own or don't remember it stated when signing up and need to know this Why can't I call the company I pay regularly for this informations? Why am I paying Metlife if I can't go by what they tell me when I need information? Our savings acount was drained paying Our "Half" of the bill and now becuase their employees left on one tiny piece of important information I have to come up with over $2000 more to pay the half I was told they covered? This is not right! Metlife needs to accept thier employees mistakes and maybed even train them for better customer service. I can't afford $5000 braces, I surely would have waited if I was told that was what had to happen! One little sentence would have prevented our life from being turned upside down and a horrible debt we have to find a way out of over the next however many years!

MetLife biased independent dental consultants are experts in finding less expensive procedures to justify denial of covered benefits recommended by our dentist. covered benefits such as implants or bridge will never be covered because independent medical examiners will only approve a lesser expensive procedure such as a partial not taking into consideration other medical conditions that are detrimental to your health this independent dental consultants should be sued, they must be well compensated for their biased denials. We appealed twice, without any success in the mean time I'm missing three molars limiting my ability to chew. I will have to wait until January to change insurance coverage. in the mean time I'm actively looking for lawyer willing to take on MetLife

Metlife has taken our money too. I call a year ago and they said they would cover half of othro, I asked several times and they said yes. Recently I got a bill from my dentist for $700 + dollars because Metlife has not covered their full share. When I called, they said that the previous person gave me inaccurate information and I was still responsible, regardless of what she said. When I talked to a supervisor, he was an idiot and said I should not be upset that I had to pay extra, happens to him all of the time and he is fine with it. Said he wishes he had a magic button to fix it for me, said it twice. Condescending ###. I am out more then $700 dollars and was not able to increase Flex Spend to cover it. Glad to hear someone say that this is subcontractor, will contact Met Life directly.

I needed a partial plate because a tooth was removed from my bridge and the tooth the bridge would have connected to was unstable. MetLife denied my claim due to the "missing tooth clause." My partial cost $1, 500. Thank goodness my husband's insurance "Always" picked up $1, 000. I had my dentist office send MetLife a narrative and xrays. They are still denying coverage. So I am going to appeal. They are [censor]. Don't get insurance from them.

I agree! Metlife has the worst customer service. They will hang up on you, catch an attitude, and provide incorrect information. The best thing to do is opt out of Dental insurance if Metlife is your only option. Paying out of pocket is cheaper than paying monthly for Dental coverage that does not cover most of your dental works anyways.

Metlife Dental is outsourced so that is how they can get away with saying this. They hired an independent contractor to cover their services so Metlife basically walked away from you the customer (except your money). They can cast the blame for incorrect information and they know most people do not have the resources to fight them off. The best thing to do is to keep on complaining about it and get names and numbers. We must make Metlife be responsible for their lack of customer care.

Wow...thank you for sharing your complaint. I need to get braces myself and I have Metlife dental insurance...I better check what they cover before my appointment..I thought I was going to be fully covered - guess not, huh?! I certainly can't afford $2000 for my braces ...we already pay too much in taxes and everything else...thanks again for the heads up! Much appreciated!

MetLife dental insurance

MetLife Dental is the worst dental insurance imaginable. I have worked for 25 years and have had several dental insurance plans; none have been as bad as MetLife - not even close.

MetLife maintains an endless list of denial reasons - the bulk of which are not provided in the Summary Plan Description. When one sends in a pre-authorization request, MetLife comes back several times with ridiculous questions as "stall tactics". If you get the service anyway (due to pain, potential loss of tooth, etc.) before the pre-autorization comes back, MetLife denies the claim. If you get back a pre-authorization, it states it is not a guarantee of payment; MetLife often refuses to pay anyway. It is a catch-22.

In my situation, I work for a self-insured company, so MetLife is just the administrator. All of the premiums I pay go for poor quality administrative practices, stall tactics, contradictory statements, mis-communication within their business, AND their lawyers. The actual payments for services come from the company I work for. If I cannot get assistance from my Human Resources department, I would have to sue my company through ERISA. I am paying for their lawyers and would then have to pay for my own. What a scam! What a great deal for MetLife - no accountability.

It is getting harder and harder to find reputable dentists under their plan. I wonder why. If they treat employees poorly, I'm sure they treat dentists as badly.

Please do everything you can to avoid MetLife and petition your company to drop them or not to use them. They are a highly unethical business. They operate under a "thug" business model.

metlife is a piece of crap. We are 2014 and I have been fighting with them since October 2013 to get a 3 crowns and 3 bridges done. We were finally able to get them pay 50 percent for 2 crowns and bridges. They bring excuses of the world to deny you and delay so that you give up and YES ...you will eventually give up because you want to fix the problem. So, having an insurance like this is worth NOTHING. I got this insurance through my work and will never ever take it again. Rather pay from my pocket than think that insurance will!

I agree. I have also had sevarl different dental plans through the course of my employment (26 years) and Metlife is the worst one I've ever had.

To top everything off, they only alow $1, 500.00 per person maxmimum. Yeah, that might have been okay in the 70s, but now? Forget it. That's maybe three amalgams or ONE big job (like a crown or root canal).

So, if you need any significant work done to your teeth, you are able to get maybe one procedure and either hope you have a gigantic bank account, or do a little bit every year and always be in debt.

Sadly, in the rural area I live in, Metlife is the ONLY option.

the worse dental insurance on the planet.Pray your company does not hire this scam insurance. It does not matter if you get aproved for a procedure. They make there own rules!it does not matter if you go to the doctor they have on the list.If they don't want to pay they do not pay the poor doctors, And you get stuck with the bill anyways.besides going to the own list of doctors they have there own dental consultants whos job is to deny any benefit and even turn 360 degrees it does not matter if the preferred dentist program even writes a letter on your case. this company is very large, they think they walk all over people, So people be aware !

This is the worst scam oriented company. I need to replace a fixed bridge and continually deny the claim opting for an unacceptable replacement using a removable partial which does not work for me. I am going to one of their approved dentists who also agrees that they are skimping and treating me unfairly. I will probably end up in small claims court to retrieve the aprox. $350 difference. I would not trust this company under any circumstances due to the way they are trying to cheat me out of my insurance benefits.

MetLife Short term disability

I was put out of work in jan 2009 and have had a ongoing problem with this company. It is always they didn't receive paperwork or they don't have enough information on a case that is self explanatory and has not changed. Recently we were told it was in review and a check would be in the mail this week due to condition not changed however everyday I called and talked to them it was it is still in review. Now it is the nurse never did it and is being sent to their doctor. To begin with, it is unbelievable a nurse calls the shots on who is eligible over a doctor statement that puts a patient out. If I remember right a doctor's schooling is alot longer than a nurse. A never have I worked as a nurse and we decided the doctor's statements, records, etc where overlooked by us. My husband has had to cancel 2 appointments with his neurologist due to the delay in checks. He has been unable to get medications, we are about to have utilities turned off due to arrangements unable to be met due to the delay in checks, we have lost our transportation, we are lucky to eat once a day. Need I go on this company has caused us severe problems and if any employer tells you they are getting this insurance I would think twice of getting it. Health problems that occur overnight is hard enough to deal with yet alone a company you think will help on some of the burden is totally devastating.

My heart goes out to all the people who have had the same unfortunate experience that I have had. This is my 3rd week waiting on MetLife, after they got money out of my check biweekly. I do not have any civil words at this point, and benevolent patience and understanding are almost beyond me now. I have furnished them with information that they required, trusted them sight unseen. What if we stop putting $ in their pockets? I hope some governmental agency investigates them.

This seems to be an ongoing issue. What ever happened to the voice of "the people". Big companies believe they can get away with this immoral behavior, because we don't stick together and fight. It is a conflict of interest for insurance companies to have "payroll" clinicians deciding claims. Of course, it's going to be denied! You also, have "reps" who receive bonuses, etc., for denying claims. Most of the "reps" are attorneys who are used to lying & thieving for living. I have no respect for that profession. You know ...as the good book says "you reap what you sow". However, I do pray for the day the peoples' voice will be heard and more weighty regulations will be put in place. Greed is a sickness.

My claim was first approved for Short Term, I went back out of work a week later and Metlife deined it. They kept saying they did not receive paper work, its under review, or they received it but need more information. Every time I called I would get a different answer. Not to mention the case managers are very rude. I still am fighting for my short term and continue to get the run around from Metlife.

As a consumer, you have a free look period that is disclosed to you on the first page fo the policy. The policyowner has a right to cancel the policy for any reason usually within 10 days of policy delivery.

If you in fact cancelled the policy within that period of time, you are entitled to a full premium refund. Otherwise, I woud suggest filing a formal complaint with the State Department of Insurance and stop paying the policy.

MetLife appeal denial

Everyone that I have talked to at my place of business who has had dealings with Metlife has had problems.

I was off work with what they thought were heart problems but turned out to be my gallbladder. I had surgery and my Dr. did send Metlife the information. After my surgery I came down with pancreatitis and was back in the hospital. While I was in the hospital Metlife called me and told me I had to have all my info in by 5:00 that day. Mind you, I am in the hospital with IV's and pain meds in my system. I explained this to them but they did not care and would not grant me an extension. It was like too bad we need it and I don't care if you are in the hospital.

I had to appeal and they denied my appeal because I have a job where I sit all day and they say I can perform my duties. Even though I have recurring pancreatitis and letters from my Doctor saying it would be detrimental to my health to be working during those times, Metlife just does not care. They say I can be on the phone with a customer for 20 min to an hour and take care of them even though I am throwing up and have diahrrea.

I lost my job because of the denied appeal from Metlife. My place of employment says that because of Metlife's denial that I have over 400 hours of unaccounted time off. They do not care that I have Doctor letters. All they care about is what Metlife says. You can never get the same answer from anyone you talk to at Metlife. Why do we have STD insurance when you cannot use it when you are really ill?

I have been given the runaround regarding a request involving a life insurance policy I have had with MetLife for over 20 years. Despite my persistent phone calls and inquiries, all I get from the Sandy, Utah MetLife office are lies and also abrasive rudeness from a little weasel claiming to be their office manager. Had I known 20 years ago what I now know about MetLife, I would have never purchased life insurance from them! In the meantime, I will cancel the LongTerm Policy I have had for years with them - you know, the one they claimed they would never raise the rates on without my permission - yet now are raising the rates without my permission. Their behavior is abysmal!

My Mother is 90 years old To date I have made over 17 calls last month, ( and 9 calls to date this month) to Met Life and ARRP combined and my Mother still does not have any assistance, claims, adjusters, managers, R.N's.
I am truly beginning to think this is all a scam, and will cancel my own long term policy. Nothing is worth this much trouble, but I feel so bad that my Mother is in terrible health, she can barely get out of bed and these people have been terrible to work with. She has paid on this policy since 1991 and "trusted the system."
If I treated my clients like I have been treated at Met Life i would not have a job.
It is disgraceful to treat people in this manner.
I have a full time job and family and this has become a full time job for me as well. I have now turned this information over to the Insurance Commissioner and my next step is an attorney. I hope you all have better luck.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU...Metlife is only good for collecting your Premiums, then you get hurt or sick and they treat you like [censored]...I had a Head Trauma that has affected me in MANY ways, both physically and mentally. Instead of them looking at the "Whole Picture" of my medical problems, they just focused on the ones that were "Limited Disabilty" under my plan and STOPPED my payments. I am in an Appeal Process as we speak, and will involve my Attorney if needed. I feel like they do NOTHING but Harrass me all the time, wanting updated information. ALL my doctor's have provided them with info. stating that I am considered "Permanent Disabled" but they continue to ask for updated info. as to when my Doctor's can expect me to go back to work...What Employer will possibly hire me, considering I can only work a Max of 2 hours? I advise EVERYONE to DECLINE their Coverage...Invest in a Comapny you can "Trust" to take care of you when you are in need of them.

I am in a similar situation with Metlife right now. I got hurt at work and the doctor had me stay home until I started physical therapy. I sprained and may have broken my ankle. Metlife won't pay me because "All I do is sit at a desk" at work. Well, the DOCTOR put me out of work. It is my belief that he went to school for MANY years to be a doctor. He has since returned me back to work with restrictions, i.e. leg raised to at least waist level and ice on my ankle for 15 minutes of every hour. My job will not accomodate me raising my leg and it takes about 20 minutes to get the ice as I am crutches and wearing a boot. I can not drive as it is my right ankle, so i am forced to take the bus. With no money because of no paycheck while I was off. To make it worse, I have 2 kids and a storage unit. I am going to lose everything we own in this world because I can not pay the storage. My dad has been helping me pay the hotel so we are not completely homeless, and I have been forced to get on food stamps. I feel like the worst parent in the world, because I got hurt and my kids have to go through this.
I call Metlife on a daily basis and they can not seem to get it through their heads. Who does Metlife think they are questioning a DOCTOR? Are you really that presumptuos to think you know more than he does? If that's the case, the next time I am hurt I will just go to the local Metlife office and skip the doctor.

MetLife short term disability denial

WATCH OUT!
I've had the unfortunate luck of finding out about MetLife's ridiculousness first-hand.

I had surgery in mid-November 2008 - and according to my doctor (who is a SURGEON) - I needed to be out of work for four weeks. All seemed well with MetLife until about mid-way through the recovery period.
All of a sudden - they were calling me saying my doctor didn't provide this or that...mind you - I'm supposed to be HEALING/GETTING BETTER - not stressing out about what the surgeon's office needed to submit.

Long story short - it's the week before Christmas - I'm back to work and found out that I won't be getting paid on Friday. Yeah - thanks MetLife!
They denied my claim because my doctor didn't send them what they wanted (and somehow - I'm also supposed to be well-versed in medical terminology and lingo to know what the h*ll they're talking about)! Though, they never sent a form or request to the surgeon's office.

I have talked to five reps (at minimum) - and for each time I call - I get told something different. Oh - and the best part is that according to them - they are not even supposed to communicate with me until I receive the official denial letter (which incidentally was sent last week - that I mysteriously haven't received - though I've received every other letter they've sent). Clearly, the criteria for working there is only if you are a cold-hearted, dim-witted ### who simply speaks without thinking.

Oh yeah - and now I have to wait 45 days for a decision...
