Last year, I had a cervical fusion and was disabled for over 10 months. Even though I had my doctor's notes supporting my inability to return to work, MetLife caused me to get evicted from 2 apartments, get 2 cars reposessed and as a result, I bypassed my doctor's advice and went back to work, even though I was in excruciating pain and developed Sciatica...

MetLife Difficult company

My mother has an active, current, long term health care policy with Metlife, thorough AARP. This company has been very difficult to work with, although my mother is living in an approved Assisted living facility, we have not received any assistance whatsoever. I hope there is a better long term health care insurance provider than METLIFE.

My parents have a long term care policy with another company and have been using it for three years, with no problem. I have had my own issues with Met Life. I thought this company was alot more reputable than it is. It is a shame Met Life takes advantage of of someone in their last years. SHAME ON MET LIFE !

Absolutely agree. My husband has Parkinson's disease and is becoming more frail. We are trying to admit him to a nursing home. We have had Met Life Long Term Care Insurance or years and now we are trying to use it. What a mess. They have asked for so much information that needs to be sent to them.
We have other insurance for hospitalization and of course Medicare. If he were in a hospital, we would be asked for ID, insurance numbers period. They would do the rest. If I would have known how complicated it was to use this insurance in order to pay for nursing home fees, I would never have purchased it. It is a legal SCAM!

Thanks,

One of the ways to challenge these discrepancies is to notify the IRS of the disparity between income earned during the prior year before disability and the amount of income earned as reported to MetLife. In my case, the difference is approximately $550(per month)x12(months)x4(years since disability)=...do the math.

Finally, please substitute 'employer's' in the aforementioned complaint with 'employee's'. Anybody know how to edit on this website?

Please excuse errors in the previous submission; as a result of exposure to toxins during the employment at the employer's location, I'm losing vision.

I am also trying to get MetLife to pay the correct long-term disability payout. Although my employer (former) intentionally sent in a lower annual income statement to MetLife, I've since sent in W-2's, income tax forms (prepared by the IRS), showing the correct income; however, MetLife refuses to adjust my payments. So far I'm short $30, 155 dollars, and counting.

Any advice given is appreciated.

MetLife non payment

We were never given an information card regarding our id number nor a list of acceptable places to go to for cancer screening labs. We were not given payment for lab expenses incurred after using a qualified oral surgent on their list. They said it wasn't a lab on their "mysterious list".

6/1/2012 worst insurance imaginable
denied my coverage because work was done 48 months ago and they have a 60 month pre-existing condition give me a break, it should be at least prorated. their junk and the sad part is our government bailed this company out with our own taxpayer money.
They will find a way to deny your claim especially if it entails some money. avoid this company at all costs.

Hey I saw that I am not the only one experiencing it.
It sounds exactly as the situation I having right now!
Metlife promised to cover the orthodontic procedures and then just changed its mind and refused to cover the procedure.
I called them numerous times with no avail.
In my opinion if there are more then one situation like thiswith Metlife its time find a lawyer and bring a collective lawsuit against it.

Metlife they are by far the worst dental insurance I had to deal with. Evey time I called I got a non english speaking person that I can't even make sense out of what they are saying. I called numerous times for the same problem and got a different answer from all differnet people none of them which made sense. What was even funnier is when I asked for the senior representitive they transfferd me to another broken english speaking person that couldn't solve my problem or even understand it.

All my experience's working with MetLife have been negitive. Recently, I found out this company outsources all there work to Costa Rico. No wonder every time I contact there company I get a non English speaking non understanding individual EVERY TIME. Our office's claims are denied on every occassional possible, and this company truely does not care about the subscribers or providers. There are no Federal Agency overseeing their unfair practices and this allows them to damage us all.

MetLife disability

I applied for my benefits when my company had their enrollment period, back in September 2007. I send my Statement of Health form in and it was signed by me on 9/16/07. I later called MetLife to check on my coverage and they said I was being denied due to a pre-existing condition, pregnancy and that I supposedly send them a letter saying I was pregnant that was signed on 9/16/07. I informed them I didn't conceive until 10/11/07. They then told me to fax in a letter from my doctor stating my conception date with an appeal.
So, I went ahead and faxed the letter from my doctor, but MetLife STILL denied me for coverage. THEY state that supposedly on my Statement of Health form that I signed back in September, that I was pregnant at the time, even though my doctor states I didn't conceive until 10/11. When I called in to discuss this with them, nobody including the supervisor wanted to hear any of this. They just kept repeating themselves about the paper I signed. I tried to inform them I would've had to have been psychic to say a month before I conceived, that I was pregnant. But, they didn't care what my doctor had to say. They just simply said they would not give me any coverage.
This company is horrible with this! I've seen the complaints...and they all basically sound the same! I'm sooo ready to get an attorney for this. Now, I will not be able to take any maternity leave to recover and spend time with my baby...and get paid for it. I can't afford to just take time off! MetLife is awful. I will NEVER sign up for disability insurance with them...EVER, or EVER reccomend them to ANYONE!

MetLife ltd claim

I have been on long term disability for the past 12 years due to back problems. This Jan my long term disability changed from Liberty to MetLife as I think Met life bought them out. The first correspondence I got from Metlife was in Feb and they wanted a Attending Physician statement. So I got my PHY to fill it out and sent it in. Thinking I had done what they wanted and never hearing from them again till I received a written April 17, 2008 giving me one day to get my Physician information in to them or I would be cut off. This letter also stating that they had mailed a letter Dec 11, 2008 requesting a update from my physician. I never got this letter. They went on to say if I did not get the physician information back to them by the 18th of April ( now I got the letter April 17, 2008 in the mail ) that I would get cut off. I called Metlife and explained I just had NOT gotten the letter they said they sent Dec 11, 2008 and that the letter I got today ( April 17.2008)
was saying that I needed the information in by April 18, 2008. The lady on the phone basically said they could not control the mail ( the letter was dated April 9, 2008 ) and if I didn't get the information in they would deny my claim. Oh yea the letter had my address but was addressed to another person as it said " Dear Mrs Brookes" Making me think they didn't even know who they were writing the letter to. I went to the MD and had him fill it out and faxed it to them. I am sure this is not the last I will hear from them as I am sure they are looking for a reason to cute my disability claim. I can't figure out why after 12 years ( and I know they have all my physician's notes from Liberty ) they think I can work especially when every Physician has stated that I am totally disabled.

After a long battle i got my disability from metlife, however, when i got my ssi i had to pay back over $8, 000.00.Metlife said I was overpaid. I never understood this part, I was to get 80% of my income to age 65, That was $1800.00 month. My ssi is almost $1000.00, so, I thought i would be making $2, 800.00 a month. When i purchased this policy they failed to tell me that they offset your disability and take away the amount of ssi. I bought insurance and i feel ripped off. I paid for insurance with metlife and i have worked since i was 13 years old. I should get my full amount from metlife and full amount from ssi, I worked and paid for and the insurance I should have it all. With living cost skyhigh, and the fact that i have 2 grandchildren to raise I am having a hard time living on $1800.00 a month. If I dare get any money from any other source metlife will take it. Is it legal for metlife to offset the disability payments like that ? Can they get my IRS statement ? Can they offset my IRS refund? Metlife is so intrusive and makes me feel violated, i always have to sign something and get it back, like they wait on you to miss that date, I never got a policy from them either. When I asked them about the offset policy they responded that had i been a employee i would have received the full amount but being I was a contractor and paid for the policy myself going thru my employer I did not get the full benifit. What a load of garbage.

Bless your heart, they did the same thing to me. Only after sending them letters by certified mail did they ever agree to re- open my case and continue disability payments. But that was not the big surprise!, , After being declared disabled by Social Security, and after recieving my settlement for backpay from Social Security, Met Life claims I owe all of my settlement money to THEM to repay what they paid me in disability benefits. I never recieved a policy from them, never was told that my disability benefits were "a loan" from them. Of course they are going to sue me now, but what are they going to get?

MetLife denied claim

I was out of work from october 2007 until january 2008 due to a very seris illness. My doctor felt that it was unsafe for me to perform my job duties so he said i need to take a leave from work. i took a leave from work expecting to be paid from std but was denied payment. I appealed it, so they sent my records to a doctor of there choice who said i was able to work at the time my doctor said i couldn't work. They sent the records from there doctor to my doctor asking do my doctor agree with what there doctor's said my doctor said no my patient has a life long illnesss that cause a life time of pain. After my doctor sent there response with updating records they denied me again and said i can't do anymore appeals and i only did one appeal on this case. i was out of work with no pay and everything such as bills, food and clothes for my kids, and even my automobile was thearting to be taking away from me. i have been with my company for a long period of time and didn't no that metlife didn't care about there customers they just care about the money that they receive from us.

MetLife short term disability

I paid all year to have this protection, now I can't work due to back injury, so I put a claim in and it only took them 2 days to denie my claim, My doctor gave an estimated time when I might be able to go back to work, so they used that for an excuse, when infact I am in alot of pain and will be out longer then he estimated. I was told by several people that this was a bad plan, I should have listened

MetLife Defrauded by disability metlife insurer!

Absolutely do not buy met life disability. I bought it thru kindred health care. In 2000 I became disabled. I was not worried because I had purchased met life who promised me 30% of my income as long as I was disabled they missed payments claiming lack of paperwork I finally started fedexing them because then I could prove they had received it.

They paid me although hassling me the entire time until hurricane katrina. Then suddenly they claimed they no longer had to pay me because I got social security and they wanted to be paid back. I went from $40,000/year while working to $24,000 a year and now because of them I am trying to make it on $13,000/yr. I had to spend my 401k, I have no money for hot water, I run out of food by the 3rd week of the month. They have ruined my life, and I urge you do not become their client or they will cheat you as well!

This company was recently sued in a class action lawsuit Edward Roycroft vs Metlife, Inc. because they did not take great care in finding people who were due pensions from them. Instead after two letters or so if the person did not contact them, they converted the funds to themselves and they are still doing this. The suit was dismissed. However per an article: "MetLife will pay a $19.75 million settlement following an investigation by the New York State Department of Financial Services connected to the insurer's revelation that it had not paid about 13, 500 participants in its group annuity population over the past 25 years due to insufficient administrative practices." Now I am helping a disabled man try to get his pension from them. They gave him only 90 days which isn't sufficient time to make such a important life decision in how you are going to receive your annuity. The form was sent in after the 90 days but here is the kicker, the amount now they are offering for a monthly pension is now less then half the original amount they offered to begin with. How does that happen with a straight life annuity? Really? Did they just convert more then half his pension to their pockets. This man is disabled and can barely afford rent and food and they are taking more then half his pension away from him in a matter of just three months! How does a big company like that expect to get away with outright theft? HOW?

I contacted customer service about one half an hour ago requesting a dental insurance card. I was informed it was a paperless system and I could not have one sent but I could log on to totalcomp and print one?
I would like to be mailed a dental insurance.
It being paperless means not providing a card is that really a good idea?

These greedy sob's denied my disability the minute they found out that the social security disability had approved me within 3 months of my application (that is fast!)which means they had no doubts about me and all the evidence required... Metlife said their reason was in the files from a doctor that he commented on something unrelated to my medical condition!?! They took that as evidence of a false claim, eh? I was floored, they have multiple mri's ct's xrays and almost 1000 pages of doctors records. They were rude and totally uncaring, truly only interested in throwing me under the bus and getting me off the phone. Two weeks later they called to tell me my life insurance was cancelled because of the situation with the disability denial. Why the one has anything to do with the other I do not know. I became very upset with the caller over this and he disconnected me! I have never receives anything from them since, no letter stating what they told me on the phone, nothing. This company is crooked and false in everything they do. That life insurance was for my daughter so she would not have to pay for my final expenses. Now I guess we are both screwed. I would love to file a lawsuit on them for this treatment but I am living on SSDI and cannot afford to.

I am a severe asthmatic. Recently had a bad attack and had to take off from work to be healed. From July 27- Aug 12 while off I applied for my company STD (short term disability) Metlife is the company.

I submitted all the correct paper work on time from my doctor who has been my doctor for the last 5 years and knows my condition.

They sent me paperwork stating my claim denied due to doctor not signing in proper place he signed where the name where his business name is instead of under signature and he didn't put follow up appointment date on the paper. The is not the first time i submitted a claim from the same doctor the same reason.

I had to appeal the decision they told me it would take 45 days which to them means it is still NO approval. Due to this my bills are behind and cant be paid.

If you are sick you might as well die if you have insurance they try to kill you with stress and deny your claims that you desire!

Better to not have the insurance than to almost die!

The Metlife dental plans are advertised as being concerned with the dental health of employees. This is not the case. The consulting dentists are paid handsomely to prevent payment for anything more than a vet would do for a horse. They will not pay for crowns or bridges, opting for dentures as soon as they can so the health responsibility of the employees teeth will be off their back. I WOULD NOT USE THEIR HEALTH PLANS, DENTAL PLANS, ETC. AS THEY ARE IN BUSINESS TO RIP PEOPLE OFF, PAY BIG BONUSES AND HAVE ELABORATE PARTIES TOUTING THEIR PROFITS. EVEN MY DENTIST SAYS THEY ARE OUT TO BEAT THE PATIENT.

This is a very sleazy and lazy company. They basically make the customer do all the work. They have no desire to pay so they simply drag things out as long as possible, forcing the customer to nag and push them to get things done(one requirement at a time over and over again). They also are not reasonable(won't respond to English or logic, chooses to insist on their rules as they define the words). For example, my statement was given to them by phone at the time of the accident(recorded audio) and was also included in the police report(written and signed) but months later they still claim I have not given them a statement according to their definition of “statement” and they refuse to give you the specifics of what they require making you guess instead. They(the specifically assigned person to your claim) avoid direct communication as much as they can. When you call during their very short office hours you will never get to speak to an actual person it is always the machine, or at least I haven’t been able to after a ridiculous number of calls. The only person I’ve spoken to is the person I originally filed the claim with(different person from the one they assign me). This company is dishonest and irresponsible.

Metlife refuses to pay claim, they want you to take them to court. Even though it is only $403.15, that means they pay out more money than they need to. And your insurance premium goes up. Don't think I will ever use their insurance.

They ask for so much paper work, that' s how they make you get up on your case, they know older people with disabilities have a hard time getting around getting paper work filled out, plus most doctors charge for paper work being filled out, when I first took out this insurance it had no stipulations, now that I need to use it, you've got to have certain disabilities for it to over two years.

MetLife illegal business practices!

I have been off work since July 1, 2006 at which time I filed a disability claim with MetLife I have always paid extra for short and long term disability insurance through my company ACS.

Since my disability, requiring transplant, MetLife has made my life miserable. I have fought tooth and nail since day one to get my disability and I have finally reached the straw that broke "my back". It took over 2 months to get my first disability check at which time I had to borrow from friends and relatives to keep a roof over my head. By the time I received my short term disability I was in long term disability which took another 2 months + and was approved until July 2008, I receive back pay then 1 month pay to be paid to date in late December. As of today I received my January 2007 check with a deduction of most of the check claiming I was receiving social security and this is the difference. I have filed for SS disability but have not been approved to date. Upon calling MetLife I was informed that they ASSUME that I would be getting this amount from SS even though I have not been approved and that just in case I was receiving SS they deduct this amount so that I would not be overpaid. These people are playing with my life as though I am nothing. They tell me they don't have the supervisors phone number when they transfer me to my caseworker of course all I get is voice mail. They have me over a barrel. If I don't get my check I cannot pay my rent, utilities, etc. But most importantly I will not be able to get my medications. Is this legal?
