desirae pausma buyer beware
STAY AWAY! This breeder is dishonest and does not stand by her word. Her dogs do not live as family dogs as she likes to pretend. They live in kennels in the garage or in outdoor runs where they sit in their own stool and urine until somebody else cleans it up. Being from Wisconsin myself, I understand the "farm life" but this is no way to raise innocent animals - it's no wonder the older dogs all cower when they see her. I know many friends who have had health issues with their Neverest dogs and she does nothing but blame everyone BUT herself when in reality, her lines are ridden with health issues. There are so many responsible breeders out there - do NOT buy a puppy from this money hungry breeder who does not have the dog's best interest at heart like she claims. There is a reason she has so many dogs on coowns. She claims that she does it for the dog's well being - when really - its so she doesnt have to do the work and yet she gets to reap all of the benefits...
elbow dysplasia
My husband and I are SO sorry we didn't pay more attention to the negative reviews posted here on Neverst Labs and Desirae Pausma. Instead, we proceeded with purchasing a puppy from Neverest Labs in April of 2015.
Very early on, it became obvious this beautiful pup had lameness in both front legs. He had swelling in both elbows and his front legs would shake. I contacted Desirae with these concerns early on. She asked for me to send pictures, which I did, and Desirae responded that the legs looked normal to her.
The situation continued to worsen, and at 7 ½ months of age we finally had to take him in for X-rays. Since the vet had to sedate our dog for the x-rays, it was suggested that we take care of neutering him at the same time to avoid having to sedate him again for that procedure. Unfortunately the x-rays weren't sufficient for an accurate diagnosis of his issues, so we ended up scheduling CT scans at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Hospital. The scans showed that our dog has Fragmented Coronoid Process Disease (Elbow Dysplasia) in both front legs, and because it was present from a very early age he also already has significant osteoarthritis present in both legs.
The orthopedic specialists at the U recommended arthroscopic surgery on both legs to remove bone fragments in the elbows that were grinding together and causing significant pain to our dog. We did this procedure as an interim treatment, but will likely need to do joint replacement surgery at some point in the future. The arthroscopy showed several areas in our dog's elbows where there should be cartilage but there is not.
When I contacted Desirae about the issues we are experiencing, she implied that his problems may be a result of neutering our dog at 7 ½ months of age. I have talked with multiple veterinarians and orthopedic surgeons at the university, and all agree that it’s LUDICROUS to imply that our dog’s issues, which were obvious from about 12 weeks of age, could be the result of neutering him when he was 7 ½ months old. It’s clear to me that Desirae just doesn’t want to take responsibility for Neverest Labs taking $1, 500 for a puppy with SERIOUS HEALTH ISSUES.
We have incurred well over $7, 000 in related medical expenses to this point, and our dog is only 11 months old. The arthroscopic surgery helped some, but ongoing medication, physical therapy and future surgeries will be necessary to manage our dog’s pain. It’s a HORRIBLE situation. I know things happen and there are never any guarantees that every puppy is going to be perfectly healthy. It would just be good to know that if something happens that is truly unusual and unforeseen, that the breeder would work with you instead of trying to lay the blame back on you!
If you end up like we did - with a beautiful dog that you love dearly, but you're looking at a lifetime of medical procedures and medications to help him not to suffer in pain - and your only potential restitution is a replacement puppy from Neverest Labs, are you satisfied? Please see the photo attachment of our dog and know that you do NOT want to go through this. Do yourself a huge favor and LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR YOUR PUPPY.
Every person is entitled to their own opinion, but how easy it is to say all these things when you have a healthy dog! (This is assuming that the above comment is truly written from an objective person and not Desirae herself under a newly-created profile... For if you read other complaints, you will see that it has been charged by another person that this has occurred. Another person who also drew a short straw and ended up getting a puppy with leg problems.)
I'm well aware of what is in Neverest Labs' contract, but I choose to trust the guidance of veterinary medical professionals over following the breeder's contract. Yes, this voids the contract and the health guarantee, but it doesn't mean I don't have a legitimate complaint! Two HIGHLY COMPETENT and trusted veterinarians observed and documented our dog's severe lameness PRIOR to the time he was neutered. In addition, a veterinary orthopedic surgeon concurs and points out that the presence of advanced osteoarthritis in our dog's elbows is clear evidence that the Fragmented Coronoid Process disease had been present from a very early age. This orthopedic specialist also confirms that you absolutely DO sedate a 9 month old Lab puppy in order to do CT scans. It has nothing to do with the vet's capabilities, and everything to do with ensuring that you're getting accurate scans to make a diagnosis.
I think anyone who has ever owned a dog (especially a Lab) knows the LOVE and the BOND you form with this member of your family. This is our 5th Lab. We have always provided the absolute BEST for our dogs in terms of care, and will stop at nothing to help them live a happy, healthy life. Anyone who would criticize our decision to neuter our dog prior to a year old didn't see the pain he was in with his legs the way they were. He had pieces of bone floating in his elbows that were "grinding" bone-on-bone... missing cartilage in the joints, and arthritis. Waiting 3 more months to get a diagnosis and begin treatment wasn't even close to being an option for us.
I'm truly happy for the many, many people who have purchased not just one - but multiple - healthy dogs from Neverest Labs. Obviously the vast majority of their puppies are healthy, as well as smart and beautiful. However, having drawn the short straw on getting a healthy pup, I don't believe it's inappropriate to share this information.
It's shocking to me that people purchase a puppy with a contract, don't follow the terms of the contract, and then expect the breeder to remedy the situation. The contract is very specific regarding the responsibility of the owner in protecting your puppy from accidents, early neuter, proper exercise for the age of the puppy, and what to do in the event of an unexpected issue. It also provides specific responsibilities regarding documentation and the right to a second opinion before surgery, but you don't state if you followed through on those terms that are clearly stated within the contract. If you have abided by ALL terms of the contract, you have a legitimate complaint. If not, then publicly criticizing the breeder is very inappropriate since your actions voided your contract. If you weren't satisfied with the terms of the contract, you simply should not have purchased the puppy. I have purchased a lab from Neverest and went above and beyond the terms of the contract, including having my dogs hips and elbows certified by OFA before jumping my dog in agility (and the vets I used are capable of doing this without sedation). I have a wonderful healthy dog and Desirae has served as an excellent resource in the raising of my pup. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a Neverest lab in the future.

Do not use this breeder... We paid our deposit with the understanding that we would be sold a male pup. We had seen the compliants about this breeder though we fell in love with one of the dogs and decided there were not enough bad stories to not move forward. When the puppies were born, she decided last minute that she would be keeping a male, and as you can imagine we were devastated. We then told her that because she was keeping a male, we should be entitled to the return of our deposit. We were willing to pay nearly $1, 000 for a dog and thought it only right that we be able to pick from our breed, particularly as she indicated that she would not be keeping a male. She suggested that she would be keeping the deposit, but that we could pick from another litter. We eventually negotiated the return of our deposit but after viewing more of the complaints I am feeling more and more that this is a bait and switch breeder. Be warned!

puppy labrador retriever
2/19/2011-do not use neverest labs or desirae pausma or mike pausma. [protected]@yahoo.com. We were emailed about a male yellow lab pup that a family backed out on - we called and agreed on $800. We were exicted and immediatley left for the 3-hour drive to pick up our new pup. Halfway there, mike called us and said they need to charge wi sales tax, puppy registration fees and some other fee - almost another $75-$100. Since we did not have a checkbook or additional cash to meet the bait and switch demands of this breeder, we came home empty-handed. I refuse to work with a breeder with these types of unprofressional demands. Obviously, someone outbid us on this pup. After returning home, I got on the computer and found all the complaints against neverest labs. I am glad now that we did not get a puppy from this backyard breeder that breeds for her own livlihood and support. I pity the dozens of dogs desirae owns that are overbred and never get to know what it would be like to be a part of a family. This breeder removes declaws herself, as do many other breeders, a procedure that is very traumatic to a newborn pup and should only be performed by a veterinarian. Stay away from this puppy breeding machine.
DEAR DESIREAI & MIKE (aka Zachary S.), we would not have purchased a pup without seeing your facility, condition of pups, etc. However, it was the unprofessional manner in which the price of the pup was handled. It is obviously about making money or the woman would not have raised the price on the pup while we were enroute! We even asked MIKE Pausma, do we need anything else - are you holding our puppy until we get there - etc. He replied everything was fine and off we went. We will be contacting the State of Wisconsin about the sales tax issue with your kennel.
STAY AWAY FROM DESIRAE AND MIKE PAUSMA, NEVEREST LABS, OR WHATEVER FUTURE NAME THEY CHOOSE TO USE. We got an email a yellow lab pup was available since a family backed out-we agreed on $800, so we jumped in the car to make the long drive (over 3 hours) to pick up our new pup! Halfway there, Mike called and said - Oh-we also need WI sales tax $70, puppy registration fees and some other fee. We did not have the additional cash this BAIT AND SWITCH breeder demanded, so we turned around and drove home. I am glad this happened since I reviewed some of the complaints and after seeing her website, it appears she is no more than a BACKYARD BREEDER, breeding only for her own profit. I know she removes declaws from pups herself, but this is traumatic for a pup, and should never be done by a breeder! Breeders that do this themselves are greedy and cheap and should not perform a surgical procedure like this. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND NEVEREST LABS or DESIRAE PAUSMA.
dishonest comments on site
Neverest Labs (and their feline affiliate, Rouletii Ragdolls) have been registering various names on this site for the sole purpose of defending this operation. Note all of these profiles, registered on 11/30, all making only posts defending this specific company:

This reeks of collusion. Clearly either Desirae herself, or friends she has convinced, all registered names to post these comments. I have no personal interactions with this business, but the effort that they have gone through to misleadingly defend themselves deserves to be known by potential consumers.

I am one of the persons who is "defending" Desirae and Neverest labs/Rouletti Ragdolls, and trust me, nobody has to convince me about anything. The only thing I wanted to say on this board is that the all my experiences with Desirae and Neverest Labs/Rouletti Ragdolls have been very positive from the start. Please accept the fact that there are people out there who did buy goodlooking, healthy pets from Desirae and that they are totally happy with the way Desirae and Mike raised these pets. Whatever you do, there will always be "consumers" like Watchdog63 and Pup Owner. But please do not tell me what I should write on this board.
WatchDog63, interesting you should point this out. Assuming the comments are all legitimate, we are glad no one has had to yet endure our strife.
Having posted a complaint against Neverest Labs, we admit that given our dog was healthy we too would have nothing but positive feedback. The initial buying process was great.
It is a shame that when confronted with an extreme case Neverest Labs was unable to continue along this track. Even if our case is 1:1, 000 or 1:1, 000, 000 it could have been handled much more professionally.
quality dog breeder
I read the complaint above with interest and then with total disbelief... We bought a male puppy from neverest labs in january of this year. We had checked out several breeders, including some in oklahoma, texas, and illinois. We chose neverest labs in fox lake because of the quality of dog and the incredible support they offered.
We have, at times, emailed or called neverest labs as often as 2-3 times a week for puppy advice on dog food, a tooth that needed to be pulled, an odd bug bite/rash, behavioral questions about our pup. Neverest labs has given me advice on puppy potty training, behavioral training, advice after we have had numerous problems with our local veterinarian, and the list goes on. Desirae has shown gracious patience in all of our questions. She has welcomed our visits, offered suggestions and even helped with some on-the-spot training. She has never asked us for any $ for this, but continues to welcome our questions.
Our lab is in his second round of doggy school. Every week people there ask where we got such a gorgeous dog. I have been encouraged by the trainers in this dog school to show him — they tell me it would be a "crime" not to show him! Even people in my neighborhood talk about what a beautiful dog he is. This is a quality lab!
I can sincerely tell you that this is one of the best breeders we have ever worked with and we have owned labs for 24 years.

truth be told
I totally disagree with the family that made the claim about Neverestlabs. Desirae ONLY runs her breeding program in a professional manner! She is a top breeder in the Midwest and is beyond knowledgeable when it comes to the Labrador breed! If you would have listened to her from the start as she tried to educate you-your dog would not be having such difficulties. How can you possibly make the comments that you did when she offered you another puppy?! I know several people who have purchased puppies thru Neverestlabs since I did almost 3 years ago, and all the dogs including mine are 100% healthy and beautiful! Her breeding program is extroidinary and I highly recommend that you re-think your words before you falsely accuse this Top Notch 5-Star Breeder! Honesty and Integrity is what she is made of and it shows in her dogs!

contract.. more than 3 litters per year
In Wisconsin there is a 3 litter per year limit. Desire Pausma is a breeder that is only out for money. Watch out for this breeder,
