I received an sms via my sim that I use for the internet, stating I have won R250 000 in the Nokia Yearly Promotions and to phone [protected]. When I got through a Lady called Yolisa aked my ref. Nr. 0166p. To please phone back in five minutes, for her to check her records to see if i am a winner. Two hours later, I got through to her again after trying to get hold of her numeour times! Said I must pone back again so she can look it up, I verbalized that is what she said earlier, there was a few minute silence, then she said Congratulations and do i want a cheque or bank-transfer. I said bank transfer, wereby she said, I must sms my ID, phone number, address to her, as well as buy a Vodacom 220 air-time voucher, not to use it, but forward the said air-time number as well to her, as it is used to verify my price.
When I asked her if she can't forward me the details, she said, she is extremely busy, and to phone her again when i have a pen and paper, then she'll give me the information again!
IS THIS FOR REAL, OR A SCAM?
I had a similar experience to those listed above, apart from the fact that my 'prize
money' was R195 000 and a Nokia C3, I was asked to buy a Telkom voucher for
R200 (are Telkom then also in on this scam? Nothing would surprise me about
them ...) in order to activate my reference code and then I would receive a cheque
for the prize moeny and the device by courier at my place pf work within 5 hours.
I was not asked to provide my ID number or any other personal details other than
my home address, from which I am absent during the day, and where I work. Does
this mean these scammers are tailing us by following a satellite trail on our cell--
phones? Please deal with this abuse URGENTL!
